Swiatek calls French Open win 'something special
For 68 minutes, Iga Swiatek captivated the tennis world.

On Saturday, her blistering, athletic play dismantled teenage phenom Coco Gauff, 6-1, 6-3, and Swiatek emerged as the women's singles champion at the 2022 French Open.

She took the first four games of the match and never looked back.

It marked Swiatek's second major title and her 35th straight victory -- tying her with Venus Williams for the longest WTA winning streak of this millennium.She hasn't lost a match since Feb. 16.

"To have that kind of streak, I needed everything," she told NBC's Maria Taylor on Saturday. Swiatek, who turned 21 earlier this week, won five titles this year before the French Open, including four at the 1000 level. She took over the No. 1 ranking in early April and now has nearly twice as many points as anyone else.

"What you've done on tour the past couple of months has truly been amazing, and you totally deserve it," a tearful Gauff said during the on-court trophy presentation. "Hopefully we can play each other in more finals and I can get a win over you one of these days."

When Swiatek arrived in Paris two years ago, she was a virtual unknown. She entered the tournament ranked No. 54 but stunned the field and left as the champion.

Less than two years later, Swiatek leaves Paris as the dominant force in women's tennis, and one who is poised for future greatness. It seems as though the WTA has found the elusive superstar talent who can consistently contend for major titles on different surfaces -- and do what so few have been able to do since Serena Williams was in her prime.

"She's kind of hit another level than all of us right now," said Jessica Pegula, who lost to Swiatek in the quarterfinals. "Yeah, it's a little scary."

Fear is not an unusual emotion for Swiatek's opponents these days.

Another Top Commander of the Islamic State of the West African Province(ISWAP), Musa Mani 43 years-old has surrendered to The troops of Multi National Joint Task Force(MNJTF), following sustained intensified joint Operations in the fringes of the Lake Chad.

An Intelligence Source stated that a Counter Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad.

A Man, Ozayashi Dangana And His Wife, Patricia Otunsha Burnt To death In A Fire Outbreak In Nasarawa State

It was gathered that the man identified as Ozayashi Dangana and his wife, Patricia Otunsha lost their lives in a fire incident at their home yesterday, May 25.

A source who is familiar with the incident stated that the ugly incident occured in Doma Local Government Area of the state.

The source further revealed that many others were also injured in the fire and are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

A tanker loaded with diesel fell inside gutter and went up in flames this morning, May 24 in Enugu state.

Salemgists gathered that the incident happened at the popular Odumodu Junction, Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area of the state.

A source within the area stated that the unfortunate incident occured near a gas station along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

He said the diesel which was running out of the truck flowed along through the gutter, burning everything on its way.

As at the time of filling this report, men of Anambra State Fire Service were also on ground to quench the fire, with passersby who trouped out in their numbers.

Although number of casualties recorded from the fire incident is yet-to-be ascertained.

An Atlanta pastor was found stabbed to death and burned inside a car, allegedly by a man recently released from prison that she was ministering to.

Dekalb County police are investigating the homicide that took place Wednesday night in Lithonia.

The victim was identified as 57-year-old Marita Harrell, who was stabbed at a residence in the 1300 block of Panola Road according to police.

Harrell is identified on a church website as the pastor of the Connections at Metropolitan UMC church in Atlanta.

She was transported to the 1600 block of Coffee Road, where her deceased body was later found in a vehicle by police.

Police said they arrested a suspect, Christopher Griggs, Thursday and currently have them in custody at the Dekalb County Jail. Records show he faces charges including malice murder and first degree arson.

According to a police report, Harrell’s husband Antonio was tracking her phone location because he was worried about her meeting with the man. The husband made the unthinkable discovery of her killing when he used the phone tracking to locate her minivan, according to the report.

The report said he had “told his wife not to meet anymore people who have just been released from jail for safety reasons.”

The report goes on to state a friend had also warned her about such meetings, but Harrell said she wanted “to help people who have been in jail.”

According to her Connections at Metropolitan bio, Harrell has lived in Atlanta for more than 30 years and has a husband of 27 years and two daughters, ages 18 and 5.

Harrell graduated from Emory’s Candler School of Theology with a Master of Divinity Degree in 2014. She has served in leadership roles at several other churches in the area, including Rivertown UMC in Fairburn and Newnan Chapel UMC.

The bio states she “describes herself as a child of God who daily seeks to grow in her walk with God.”

A North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church Twitter account wrote: “It is with great sadness that I report to you that the Rev. Marita Harrell, formerly with Wellroot Family Services, and pastor of Connections at Metropolitan UMC is sitting with the angels in heaven.”

Police operatives arrests suspected gunrunner after a driver mistakenly delivered a wrong package to a man expecting foodstuff.

It was gathered that Aji Augustine was expecting to take delivery of foodstuff sent by his mother in Cross River State to him in Lagos State. On April 23, Aji went to a park in Ibeju Lekki to receive the food items from a driver but the driver mistakenly gave him a package that was meant to be delivered to someone else.

One person has been killed after police operatives fired live ammunition in a desperate attempt to disperse a crowd of protesters from the Rivers State secretariat of the All Progressives Congress in port harcourt.

The shirt Diego Maradona wore when he scored the 'Hand of God' goal and much vaunted 'goal of the century' for Argentina against England at the 1986 World Cup has sold for a record £7.1m.

It is the highest price ever paid for a piece of sports memorabilia.

Former England midfielder Steve Hodge put it up for auction 36 years after he swapped it with Maradona following the famous quarter-final in Mexico.

After Maradona died in November 2020, Hodge said the shirt was not for sale.

In December that year Hodge said he had "people knocking on my door non-stop" and that reports he was looking to sell the shirt were false.

"I find it disrespectful and totally wrong," he added at the time. "It's not for sale. I am not trying to sell it."

Auction house Sotheby sold the shirt for more than its estimated price, which was between £4m and £6m.

"This is arguably the most coveted football shirt to ever come to auction, and so it is fitting that it now holds the auction record for any object of its kind," said Brahm Wachter, Sotheby's head of streetwear and modern collectables.

The previous highest fee paid for a shirt worn during a sports match was held by New York Yankees legend Babe Ruth's baseball jersey, which sold for $5.6m (£4.4m) in 2019.

In the same year the original Olympic manifesto, penned in 1892, sold for $8.8m (about £7m) to become the most expensive piece of sports memorabilia.

Ex-Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, Leeds and Tottenham midfielder Hodge, 59, who appeared in two World Cups for England and won 24 caps, had owned the iconic blue Argentina away shirt since swapping it with Maradona in the tunnel at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City after the game, which Argentina won 2-1.

There has been some confusion about the shirt since Sotheby's in London put it up for auction in April, with Maradona's family claiming it was not the shirt he had on when he scored the infamous 'Hand of God' goal.

During the past 36 years, the shirt, manufactured by Le Coq Sportif, has been publicly displayed as the one worn by the Argentine great. It was most recently housed at the National Football Museum in Manchester.

Sotheby said in its listing online that the shirt was matched to images of Maradona wearing it for both goals.

Men of the Nigerian Military shot a man while exchanging gun fire with gun men suspected to be Bandits in Kaduna state.

Salemgists gathered that one of the terrorists was shot dead in the process while the man who was shot in the cross fire was severely injured.

Men of the Kwara state police command have arrested two suspected ritualists on Sunday, April 24, 2022.

A police statement revealed that the suspects were arrested with fresh human head and hands.

Speaking in a statement, the command’s spokesman (PPRO), SP Okansanmi Ajayi said the suspects were on a motorbike on Oke-Oyi/Jebba Road, at about 11:30 am, when they ran into the Command’s Operation Harmony policemen on stop-and-search.

He stated:

“They attempted evading the officers on stop and search duty, an action that aroused the operatives’ suspicion, who hotly chased and forced them to a stop”, the PPRO said, adding that, “In the process of searching them, a bag containing a fresh human head and hands were found in their possession”.

On interrogation, the suspects, 35-year-old Wasiu Omonose, of Abioye Compound and Akanbi Ibrahim, 32 of Sayo Street, both in Share, confessed to taking the human parts to an Islamic cleric (Alfa) in Ilorin, for ritual purpose.

A young man who is yet-to-be named has been caught raping a minor in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.
