"ABUJA-House of Representatives has expressed outrage over the expenditure of N186 billion on the Federal Government’s School feeding programme by the National Conditional Cash Transfer Office (NICTO).

The House frowned at the amount when the officials coordinating the programme appeared before its Committee on Public Accounts on Monday.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon Busayo Oluwole Oke and other members of the Committee while grilling the National Coordinator of the School Feeding Programme Dr. Mrs. Sinkaye Temitope and National Safety Net Coordinating Officer, Mr. Iowa Apera on the disbursement of the N64bn out of N186 billion said to have been so far spent on feeding the school pupils alone


Registered their displeasure over the development, saying it was unacceptable.

To this end, the Committee which is also investigating the management and utilisation of the Presidential Task Force PTF on COVID-19 demanded a complete project audit of the programme immediately

According to a document submitted to the committee, the NICTO office received a credit of $400 million from the World Bank, $321 million from Abacha Restitution and another $400 million said to be balanced from the government equity fund.

But the National Coordinator told the lawmakers that the feeding programme had been on-going since 2016 when the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs initiated it and had so far gulped N186 billion in totality.

She further told the committee that the budget breakdown showed that N63.2 billion, N32.2 billion, and N124.4 billion were spent by the office in 2018, 2019, and 2020 respectively.

But two members of the committee, Hon. Chudi Momah (Anambra, APGA) and Hon. Miriam Onuoha (Imo, APC) rejected the report, insisting that many schools and communities were yet to benefit from the school feeding programme.


Momah refuted claims that 200,000 pupils from different families had benefited from the programme in Ihiala local council area of Anambra State."

Irate youths, on Thursday, staged a heavy protest in Abigi, Ogun State, following the death of a pregnant woman, Mrs Opeoluwa Waidat Adedeji, at a police checkpoint, Igbere TV has learnt.

Igbere TV gathered that the angry protesters, who stormed the Abigi Divisional Police Headquarters, blamed policemen manning the checkpoint for her death. The mother of six lost her life while on the way to the hospital for delivery.

The deceased pregnant woman was being rushed to the hospital on a motorcycle by two men when they were accosted at the Sowore River checkpoint.

The police officers inquired why they were not wearing face masks and also not obeying the social distancing order of the state government.

The policemen allegedly delayed the trio on a motorcycle, citing the ongoing restriction of movement over COVID-19, but later allowed them to go upon realizing the woman was bleeding profusely.

Adedeji, however, gave up the ghost before getting to the hospital, prompting the angry youth of the community to storm the police headquarters with the remains of the dead woman, insisting that policemen were responsible for her death.

Records have shown that Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in 2008, condemned Ibrahim Gambari for his support of dictatorial governments.

Mr Gambari, who was recently appointed as the new Chief of Staff to President Buhari, has come under criticism for his role in bolstering the gag on press freedom. The diplomat served as the Minister for External Affairs between 1984 and 1985 under Mr Buhari who was a military head of state then.

Also, Mr Gambari worked for the late dictator, General Sani Abacha, whose regime saw to the victimisation of journalists and activists. One of the victims of the stifling of press freedom under Abacha was Ken Saro-Wiwa, a Nigerian journalist and environmental activist, who led a nonviolent campaign against environmental degradation of the land and waters of Ogoniland by the operations of the multinational petroleum industries.

Mr Saro-Wiwa was hanged in 1995 by the military dictatorship of General Sani Abacha. However, years after the killing, Mr Gambari defended the actions of late Abacha saying the killing was in the interest of the state.

Nevertheless, in a column published on July 12, 2008, Mr Adesina lampooned Mr Gambari. The article published on page 15 of Saturday Sun was titled “Gambari: the slap next time.”

In one of the paragraphs, Mr Adesina referred to the new Chief of Staff as a man who enslaved himself to please his paymasters.

“Gambari enslaved himself to please his paymasters. Now, 13 years later, the shackles are still tied round his neck. bootlicking grovellers fail to learn.”

Reacting to this, former Presidential spokesperson, Reno Omokri, shared a snippet of the column and criticised Mr Adesina who is now serving in the same administration with Mr Gambari.

Before marrying my wife, my business was moving well. I had an appliances big shop with full of things. I made a lots of money monthly and was able to pay all my bills and take care of my single mother and siblings without fail.

Bbut since we got married, just two months and 5 days after our marriage, my shop caught fire. I have lost almost everything only managed to save some few things, had to pay for all the damages to my landlord (the shop owner ) I’m still owning him money and I’m now renting a small shop but things are not working.

I have so much debts to pay to so many people including my previous shop landlord, can’t afford a 3 square meals, can’t afford to pay house rent, can’t afford to pay my shop rent and we have moved to my parents house.

My wife is pregnant and due in April, we haven’t bought anything for the baby. I wish never met her in my life cos she has completely destroyed my life and I have nothing left. She is evil. The problem here is that people don't read!

What the form is simply saying is that you claimed XYZ and you want to be settled before the bank completes its investigation, therefore, you have to sign that in the event that your claim is discovered to be completely or partially incorrect (maybe the service was duly rendered or the amount you quoted is over and above what you are entitled to), the bank has the right to debit your account for whatever amount that you have over-claimed.

I tried to purchase an airtime with my umobile app on Friday but the transaction wasn't successful. I checked the umobile app only to discover that it was marked as a successful transaction. So, I messaged Uba informing them of the failed transaction.
I was told to wait for 24hrs for resolution. I notified them that 24hr had passed and I'm yet to get my refund. I received a call later on Sunday afternoon from Uba, I asked the guy his reason for calling me when I demanded they refund my money.
Long story short, he said they can pay me now while they investigate the transaction. That I only need to fill a form. Well, I said he should send the form to my mail. I checked the mail only to find indemnity form. Who has experienced this with Uba?
I didn't borrow a loan from Uba oh, just a failed transaction of #2500 and you're sending indemnity form. Usually I proceed with caution on legal documents as I don't know uba's motive here. Anyone have similar experience?

No doubts, Nigeria is a tough place to live, judging by such indices as life expectancy, poverty ratio, social justice, etc. But in the midst of all these woes lies huge opportunities waiting to be tapped for personal and societal good. Sadly, while our people are seeking ways to leave the country, the Chinese and Indians are moving in to harness the opportunities the gap in health, transportation, food, construction, just to mention a few sectors have offered.

It is never a bad idea to look for better opportunities and a better life elsewhere. However, the question is, did those lands and their grasses just become greener by default? No! They are watered by deliberate efforts of citizens. People who: speak up against bad government, press for good governance through protest, and at times with their blood. At other times, citizens make sacrifices they may not directly benefit from, but for the good of future generations. We have the likes of Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, etc who stood and fought for what many people are enjoying today.

We all owe this beloved country and future generations a duty to develop this nation.

This is the land of my birth, and I will never run away!
