Politics / Buhari Is Nigeria’s Problem, Not Its Solution – US Wall Street Journal by slanase(m): 9:00pm On Jun 17, 2016 |
Abuja - US Wall Street Journal has published an
article on its website which was authored by Pete
Hoekstra describing Nigerian President, Mohammadu
Buhari as “Nigeria’s problem and not its solution.”
The article accused President Buhari of stiffness, lack
of vision and reactive approach to issues.
It reads, “Nigerian President Muhummadu Buhari
writes of building an economic bridge to Nigeria’s
future (“The Three Changes Nigeria Needs,” op-ed,
June 14).
“It’s hard to see how his administration’s inflexibility,
lack of vision and reactive approach will achieve this.
Mr. Buhari notes that building trust is a priority for
Nigeria.
“But an anticorruption drive that is selective and
focused on senior members of the opposition party
creates deep political divisions.
“Meanwhile, members of Mr. Buhari’s own cabinet,
accused of large-scale corruption, walk free. Seventy
percent of the national treasury is spent on the
salaries and benefits of government officials, who
make upwards of $2 million a year.
As for Mr. Buhari’s ideas to rebalance the economy
and regenerate growth, his damaging and outdated
monetary policy has been crippling. “The manufacturing sector, essential to Nigeria’s diversification, has been hardest hit, exacerbating an already fast-growing employment crisis. “Foreign investors have started to flee en masse. Mr. Buhari makes only brief mention of the country’s deteriorating security situation. But security and stability are precursors to economic growth and development. “Boko Haram has been pushed back for now, but little attention is paid to the structural issues that have spurred its rise. “Instead, the Nigerian government has diverted much- needed military resources to the Niger Delta, where rising militancy has reduced Nigeria’s oil production to less than half the country’s capacity, and half the amount required to service the national budget. “Much of these tensions arise from Mr. Buhari’s decision to cut amnesty payments to militants and an excessively hard-line approach in a socially and politically sensitive environment. “Other ethnic tensions are also growing. In the country’s south, protests have been met by a bloody response from the Nigerian military, stoking the fire and galvanizing support for an independent state of Biafra. “Rising tensions could again pose one of the greatest threats to Nigeria’s stability and future.” |
Education / 5 Things You Probably Never Knew Your Mobile Phone Could Do.. by slanase(m): 9:48pm On Jun 07, 2016 |
There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. . Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: FIRST: Emergency The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialled even if the keypad is locked. Try it out... SECOND: Have you locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other ' remote ' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk)... Editor ' s Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone! THIRD: Hidden Battery Power Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time. FOURTH: How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? To check your Mobile phone ' s serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 # A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset.. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won ' t get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can ' t use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones. FIFTH: ATM - PIN Number Reversal - Good to Know If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your PIN # in reverse. For example, if your pin number is 1234, then you would put in 4321. The ATM system recognizes that your PIN number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine. The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to the location. This information was recently broadcast on CTV by Crime Stoppers however it is seldom used because people just don ' t know about it...... Please pass this along to everyone. Education / Things You Should Do In Your 20s To Avoid Having Regrets In Your 30s by slanase(m): 10:26pm On May 22, 2016 |
If you fail to focus on building a career in your twenties, you might regret it. If you don’t have as much fun as you should have gotten in your 20s, you might regret it. If you don’t pay attention to learning new things and going for what you really want in your twenties, you might regret it. The list goes on and on. Below are some things you should do in your 20s to avoid having regrets in your 30s 1. Live life on your own terms. Someone said “Don’t do things because you think you “should.” Don’t do what other people tell you to do. Don’t do what society expects you to do. Don’t sit around waiting to start living your life. This life belongs to you and to nobody else. You will not get a chance to do it again. Live it on your terms.” Yes, live your life on your own terms and be passionate about what you do. If you do not live life on your own terms, the truth it you will never be happy. 2. Build a career It is important to build a career for yourself while you are still young. You can embark on programming projects, online businesses, home improvement, classes, etc. The time to go about it is now, when you are still in your 20s. This is because it is something that’s VERY EASY to put off, and before you know it, the shorter time periods add up to years, and will get to a decade. 3. Don’t have kids you can’t support Don’t have kids because you think everyone else is having kids, or because you like the thought of having a child. Wear condoms, use birth control, have a child when you plan to –children are expensive and you are responsible for them for two decades. 4. It’s your life, own it. Take sole responsibility for it. Don’t blame it on luck, other people, circumstances, it’s all down to you. People are used to playing the blame game. Don’t play life on automatic, become conscious of your decisions and choices. Our brains are very good at deceiving us into thinking we are making conscious decisions when in reality most of the actions we take daily are habits good or bad we’ve developed. Learn not to care what other people think of you. The truth is that everybody is too busy thinking about themselves that they are not thinking about you. So if you make a mistake, don’t get all caught up in your head about what others are thinking – because nobody really cares. Discover your self-limiting beliefs and find a way to remove them and replace them with empowering beliefs. 5. Make exercising a lifestyle If you don’t engage in any form of exercise you may end up regretting it. Your body is the one thing you live with for the rest of your life. Take care of it. Years of poor eating habit with no exercise will live your body in a shape you won’t like. 6. Look after your teeth, skin and hair Some people don’t give a damn about their body. That is really bad. You should learn to pamper your body. Brush your teeth and see your dentist at least twice a year. Wear a sunscreen and sleep well, take breaks and rest when you need it. 7. Quit smoking and cut down on your alcohol intake Smoking is dangerous and injurious to your health. Cancer isn’t fun and you don’t need to give it any more chances. 8. Call your loved ones You get to lose people on a daily basis. It’s best to appreciate them while they are still alive. They’d probably like to hear from you once in a while. Give them a call. 9. Save and invest Don’t spend it all. Putting money away for old age – or even a safety buffer – is never a bad thing. Compound interest is also a powerful thing and it gets better the younger you start. Are there things you would have done differently when you were younger or do you have different views or opinion from the ones above, you can leave your comment on this post. 12 Likes 1 Share |

Abuja - Former Head of State Ibrahim Babangida has
finally broken the silence on his illness.
According to vanguard, the ex-President debunked rumours
of him being bedridden or dead, stating that he knows
he "must go and meet God".
While strongly stating that he is not incapacitated,

functions because of my ill health, but not to the level
of incapacitation as being widely circulated in some
