AlexanderGreat: I will suggest you find out GTBank online exchange rate first before settling for this news. Currently, they're exchange at about NGN380/USD while you can get less than NGN370/USD presently in the black market. So I will suggest you source dollars from black market and fund your domiciliary account. Then use your dorm account for the payments; this will save a lot of cost. 3 Likes |

Crime / Five Killed In Mozambique 'for Being Bald' by solarmanng: 8:42pm On Jun 08, 2017 |
By Jose Tembe BBC Africa, Maputo A new superstitious belief has emerged in some areas of Mozambique - that bald men have gold in their head. However, the head has to be taken to a witchdoctor who will use magical powers to extract the gold - and make them rich. As a result, police say five bald men have been killed in central Mozambique - two in May in Milange district, close to the border with Malawi, and three this month in Morrumbala district. Two young people have so far been arrested over the killings. Mozambique police spokesman Inacio Dina said a team had been sent to the remote region to investigate the murders: "Our preliminary conclusion indicates that the phenomenon is due to cultural beliefs. We are currently investigating the case to find out more and to understand the dimension of the problem." "The phenomenon can lead bald people to be pursued and killed. This is a serious homicide crime. Our current interest is to catch and hold responsible all those involved." http://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-africa-39261633?ns_mchannel=social&ns_source=twitter&ns_campaign=bbc_live&ns_linkname=59382301e4b01815982f3289%26Five%20killed%20in%20Mozambique%20%27for%20being%20bald%27%26&ns_fee=0#post_59382301e4b01815982f3289 |

Travel / Emirates, Kenya Airways Suspend Abuja Operations Indefinitely by solarmanng: 10:38pm On Oct 19, 2016 |
Emirates Airlines will suspend Abuja-Dubai operations beginning October 30, 2016. The decision is due to foreign exchange hurdles, low patronage, and other operational issues, which have reduced the profitability of flying on the route. In a related development, East African carrier, Kenya Airways, has also announced it would suspend flights to Abuja effective November 15, 2016, as part of its restructuring and loss-saving efforts. The Lagos office of Dubai-based Emirates confirmed the notice, saying: “The decision was made after a review of the airline’s operations, to ensure best utilisation of its aircraft fleet for overall business objectives.” With the interruption, the airline is left with once-a-day operations from Lagos. It will be recalled that Emirates, some months ago, ran four flights daily on the Nigerian route, two apiece, from Abuja and Lagos. With the scarcity of foreign exchange and partial devaluation of the naira, last June, it began to reduce flight operations, while the likes of Iberia and United Airlines, among others, withdrew services. It was gathered that Emirates has formally written to the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, on plans to stop flight operations to Abuja. Advertisement The development might, however, not be exclusive to Nigeria. President of the airline, Tim Clark, at an International Air Transport Association (IATA) event in Dubai, yesterday, said Emirates could reduce the frequency of its flights to African cities or cut routes completely, if current economic and financial challenges on the continent continued. Clark said foreign airlines flying to Africa now refuel abroad because jet fuel supplies had become more expensive and scarce. “In certain African countries, the currencies have really gone down, so we’re reflecting on a number of these to look at where it’s just not worth the travel,” Clark said. He added that Emirates’ load factor – a measure of capacity utitlisation – for the rest of 2016 and 2017, would probably be in the mid-70s to low-80s in percentage terms. In the wake of the new foreign exchange policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in June, foreign airlines operating in the country were estimated to have lost about N64 billion repatriating 50 per cent of the $600 million stuck in Nigeria. President of the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA), Bankole Bernard, said the policy and economic crunch came with huge negative effect on travel agencies and airlines, the reason they are suspending operations in the country. https://www.today.ng/business/199726/emirates-kenya-airways-suspend-abuja-operations-indefinitely |

In addition, as I was going through my submitted forms; I noticed that my spouse erroneously omitted one of the trips in her travel history. It was actually a 3-day trip from Lagos to Accra, which she forgot to enter into the form where you are expected to list all the countries you have visited outside your home country. Do I include this omitted information in the CSE I will be raising? |

Correction to the poster: It is the Shell IA at Rumuobiakani along Old Aba Road in PHC that was barricaded by the youths with palm fronds. Hence, bringing all business activities there to a halt as their personnel cannot enter into the premises and personnel already inside cannot come out. This situation has resulted to heavy traffic along the old Aba road. However, heavy security presence could be seen around the area to ensure the situation does not degenerate. Kudos to NPF in trying to ensure that vehicular traffic along the road returns to normalcy. 2 Likes |

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced March 26 as the launch date of the Mobile Number Portability (MNP). Director of Public Affairs of the commission, Tony Ojobo made this disclosure during Channels Television’s flagship programme, Sunrise Daily, today. “There will be a launch by the end of this month, we are going to flag it off’’ “So we are looking at the 26th of March or there about”. Ojobo said the MNP will enable a consumer move from his service provider to another without losing the number he already uses despite the change in the SIM card of the consumer. The service however will not be available to consumers who haven’t registered their SIM cards. He further said service providers who try to woo consumers that have submitted request forms to another service provider will be dealt with by the commission. http://www.channelstv.com/home/2013/03/08/ncc-to-launch-mobile-number-portability-on-march-26/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |

Health / N.16m ‘Smart Bra’ Detects bosom Cancer by solarmanng: 9:36am On Oct 30, 2012 |
A “smart bra” known as First Warning Systems could help women discover if they have breast cancer. Lifeline Biotechnologies, the medical technology company licensing the bra, says it is capable not only of identifying breast tissue abnormalities at their earliest stages, but can also identify the general location of such abnormalities in three dimensions to each of the four quadrants of each breast. The bra is based on a novel breast health screening device and method and could become available in Europe in 2013 and then in the United States of America in 2014, at US$ 1,000 (N160,000) for a pair. Preliminary studies with the novel bra conducted in more than 650 women, resulted in an average detection of at least 90 percent. Compared with the standard mammogram, the tests averaged 70 percent accuracy. Experts say while the bra is not intended as an additional step in the breast cancer screening process, it could be an accurate identifier of early breast abnormalities which generate heat via the presence of new blood vessels that nourish the area in question,” they noted. The bra, which would be worn at a physician’s office, has 16 colour-coded sensors that are taped to the patient’s breast. The sensors would then measure temperatures at programmed times over a predetermined testing period. The data is then stored in a recording device worn by the patient. Once the test period is over, the patient then submits the device to their doctor. The sensors are removed; the data is downloaded and then analysed. Once a report is returned to the physician, the patient will be called in to discuss any clinical recommendations. Based on what is described as “disruptive technology” and tissue health science, the new breast cancer detector could become a major breakthrough in making testing easier for women, however, medical experts say more studies are required before being actively used. “Most investigational medicines and medical devices, even those based on sound scientific and technical principles are not always adopted into clinical practice. He adds that once new products are rigorously tested in clinical trials, findings show they are less effective than current practices,” noted Dr. Ted Gansler, Director of Medical Content for the American Cancer Society. Gansler states that disregarding mammography would have harmful, serious effects. “A woman who chooses any breast cancer screening test based on thermography instead of mammography would be making a serious mistake that could have fatal consequences. Major medical and public health organizations all recommend mammography and none recommend thermography or any other tests based on temperature measurements for early detection of breast cancer.” Experts believe the bra could be used as part of an overall test without replacing mammography. However they stress need for more research and studies on long-term effects of the bra. “Mammograms and the bra just screen for breast cancer. The only way to actually detect breast cancer is through a biopsy where the specimen is found in the lab” they counsel. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/10/n0-16m-smart-bra-detects-breast-cancer/ |

Family / A Man Fathers 82 Kids In 9 Years. by solarmanng: 11:48pm On Sep 02, 2012 |
A middle-aged Dutch man who likes to help women conceive naturally claims he has fathered 82 children in nine years and has another 10 on the way. Ed Houben, 42, said he was a virgin until the age of 34 when he began sleeping with childless women — now he has sex with up to 15 different wannabe mums a month, the Der Spiegel reports. The promiscuous Dutchman began his baby-making career donating to sperm banks around his home town of Maastricht but switched to having sex with women when he discovered many wanted to get pregnant by natural means. Mr Houben is reportedly the world's most prolific baby maker and he travels around the Netherlands and abroad to sow his seed — if his travel expenses are paid for. "If people can convince me that I would feel well with them if I were their child, I am happy to help them with the sperm cell they need," he wrote on his website www.edhouben.eu. Mr Houben's semen analysis is also included on the site. He claims to have a sperm count of 100 million. A sperm count below 20 million make it difficult to conceive but scores in the 80-100 million range offer very good prospects for conception. To protect himself against any future demands for child support Mr Houben has all the women he sleeps with sign a contract waiving their legal rights to it. However, a German legal expert says the contracts could be successfully challenged by a talented lawyer. "If all the mothers decided to sue him for maintenance he would be paying them off for the rest of this life and the next," a German family lawyer said. Mr Houben said had fathered 45 girls and 35 boys. He does not know the gender of two of his children because their mother has not told him. He wrote on his website that he one day hopes to raise children of his own with a long-term partner. "My girlfriend says that what I do only makes me more interesting," Mr Houbemn told Germany's Der Spiegel. http://www.whatsonsanya.com/news-21133-dutchman-ed-houben-a-virgin-until-34yo-fathers-82-by-sleeping-with-women.html |

For Sanusi, it's now clear that rescuing Nigerian dwindling economy isn't part of his agenda. You are coercing Nigerians to go cashless and at the same time you are introducing a new currency note that is fivE times the higest one in circulation. In fact, someone has lost focus here or it could be there's an ulterior motive behind all theses brouhaha. Let's wait and see, only time will tell. |
