Politics / PDP Should Not Bring Back Political Violence To Oyo, Elders Warn by sundayadio1: 1:03pm On Nov 09, 2017 |
*PDP should not bring back political violence to Oyo, Elders warn*. Some concerned citizens, elders in their right, within Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, have uniformly uttered a stern note of warning to the factional sides of the Oyo state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), not to tamper with the relative peace the state has attained in the past 6 years, while calling them to put their house in order. This warning comes on the heels of the parallel congresses held separately by the Chief Rasheed Ladoja and Engineer Seyi Makinde factions of the Oyo State PDP over the weekend. These separate congresses, which was an obvious show of serious intra-party rife, produced two different Chairmen for the same party. The elders reckon that Oyo state, especially Ibadan, has seen its worst days of politically-motivated violence and that it has gone past it judging by the peace that has since been achieved and experienced across the state so far. One of them, a septugenerian and former political figure from the Lagelu local government, Barr. Adeyemi Fatoyinbo, said the gradually brewing enmity within the PDP party structure is a perfect precursor for violence, and must be checked now. He added, "There was a time in this Ibadan that you dare not go out comfortably to the market or play with your friends for the fear of thugs fighting and causing mayhem on behalf of political factions. It was very bad, and if I'm not mistaken, this gradual feud building up within the PDP should be checked and stopped now, else, we may not be safe anymore in Oyo for the outbreak of violence that might ensue". In his own remark, Pa Noah Faleti, expressed disappointment at the way by which the only potent opposition party in the state had kicked off their charge on a factional note, adding that a major worry is the ingredient of violence it bears. "Some years back in this town, this same party had issues with governing the state because of the episodes of political violence that rocked their boat almost all the time, with we the civilians bearing the brunt most of the time. So, it is sad and disappointing that they are apparently fumbling with the chance to put up a strong opposition come 2019 with all these infighting", Pa Faleti said. Further, Faleti said that, "In fact, the achievement of an atmosphere of peace in the political environment in the state in these recent years, is a sign of progress which deserves commendation and consolidation and not tampering. So,the PDP, especially Ladoja and Seyi Makinde, should be kindly warned, they need to find a way to sort themselves out with playing politics that attracts violence". However, from all indications, the infightings by the two factions do not seem to end anytime soon as the Seyi Makinde faction seem to be hellbent on throwing tantrums to the Ladoja faction. 1 Like 1 Share

Politics / Why PPP In Oyo State? by sundayadio1: 5:54am On Oct 28, 2017 |
Why PPP in Oyo? A Public –Private Partnership (PPP) is a cooperative arrangement between public and private sectors, typically of a long-term nature. The core essence of the agreement is usually to deliver more social infrastructure or corporate governance to the door steps of the people. In other words, PPP is a governance mechanism which covers hundreds of different types of innovative long term contracts between government and the organized private sector with a wide range of risk allocations, funding arrangements and transparency requirements. Actually, public administrators and political scientists usually view PPP as a policy brand and a useful tool for governments to achieve their objectives. In Oyo State, the case is not different. The PPP template has brought a lot of socio-economic and infrastructural development to the State, especially in the agriculture, solid minerals, tourism, education, women affairs, infrastructure, health, commerce, trade and investment sectors of the Oyo State economy. The impact of PPP in the state is so huge that, it is strategic and central to the creation of new businesses and opening up of top brands in Oyo State. Oyo State now boasts of attracting some leading brands and businesses which were supposed to be operational in the state long before now. This geometric improvement in the creation of jobs and businesses has been impressive, such that there has been more job creation for our youths and also a new lease of life to the residents of the state. All these positives makes it quite safe to assume that even more of these initiatives on the template of PPPs in Oyo State will make the people can access more quality basic amenities and experience wealth creation; and by so doing, make our state maintain a leading position in the comity of states in Nigeria. #AsiwajuNiWa #AjumosePPPs #AjumoseRepositioning No automatic alt text available.

Politics / How The Ajimobi -led OYSG Has Thrived With Ppps by sundayadio1: 10:13am On Oct 25, 2017 |
HOW THE AJIMOBI-LED OYSG HAS THRIVED WITH PPPs Quite a handful of the landmark projects either completed or ongoing in Oyo state under the Ajimobi administration were birthed from the smart and internationally-applicable policy known as PUBLIC-PRIVATE-PARTNERSHIPS (PPPs). The Technical University with Central Bank of Nigeria, the Ibadan Circular Road with ENL Consortium, state-wide and state-of-the-art road constructions, the Inland Dry Port with AP Maersk, the Polaris Pacesetter Free Trade Zone with a Chinese Consortium in the of China Polaris Technologies Group, the Milk Collection Center with Friesland-Campani WAMCO, the Schools' Governing Board, etc, are examples of the ways by which the Ajimobi government has deployed the gains of PPPs. Contrary to wrong opinions, when a project or initiative is termed "PPP", it is NOT solely FUNDED by government; in fact, a public-private partnership is a contractual arrangement between a public agency (federal, state or local) and a private sector entity. Through this agreement, the skills and assets of each sector (public and private) are shared in delivering a service or facility for the use of the general public. But a higher motivation for governments considering public–private partnerships is the assured possibility of bringing in new sources of FINANCING for funding public infrastructure and service needs - This has been one of the key ways by which the Ajimobi-led Oyo state government has mitigated the effect of recession and dwindling allocation, bringing in projects and policies to sustain its repositioning agenda. Governments all of over the world have used such a mix of public and private endeavors throughout history to drive development. #AsiwajuNiWa #AjumosePPPs #AjumoseRepositioning

Politics / 10 Quick Facts About Ppps & Evidence Of Its Success In Oyo State by sundayadio1: 9:42am On Oct 24, 2017 |
10 QUICK FACTS ABOUT PPPs & EVIDENCE OF ITS SUCCESS IN OYO STATE 1. A public–private partnership (PPP) is a cooperative arrangement between two or more public and private SECTORS. 2. They are typically long-term in nature. 3. Governments have used such a mix of public and private endeavors throughout history. 4. However, the past few decades have seen a clear trend towards governments across the globe making greater use of various PPP arrangements to drive development. 5. The ultimate aim of PPPs is to ensure the availability of physical or technical infrastructure for public good and usage. 6. PPPs also enable the public sector (in this case, a government and its people) to harness the expertise and efficiencies that the private sector can bring to the delivery of certain facilities and services traditionally procured and delivered by the public sector. 7. In a PPP setup by government, such government enjoys the advantage of not borrowing money to make capital investment. In other words, PPPs help governments that are serious with development BORROW less. 8. PPPs also afford governments the assured possibility of bringing in new sources of financing for funding public infrastructure and service needs. 9. The present Governor Abiola Ajimobi-led administration in Oyo state has deployed all of these advantages above to drive development in accordance with its repositioning agenda over the past 6 years. 10. The Technical University with Central Bank of Nigeria, the Ibadan Circular Road with ENL Consortium, state-wide and state-of-the-art road construction(s), Dry port with Maersk, the Milk Collection Center with Friesland-Campina WAMCO, the Schools' Governing Board, the Ibadan City Masterplan with the World Bank, the Environmental Management pact with WestAfrica ERG, etc, are fruits from the OYSG-championed PPP initiatives. #AsiwajuNiWa #AjumosePPPs #AjumoseRepositioning

Politics / Halved FG Allocation: How Has Oyo State Fared? by sundayadio1: 2:57pm On Oct 21, 2017 |
Halved FG Allocation: How has Oyo State fared? | NUGGETS * As part of measures deployed by the FG to pull through effects of the recession in 2016, allocations to the states were slashed into half. * As a result, Oyo state received 2.3 billion Naira instead of the normal 5.6 billion Naira. So, how has Oyo state fared so far till date? 1. WORKERS’ SALARIES * Before the slash, the monthly wage bill asides monies for pensioners and political appointees hovered around 5 billion Naira. * With a 2.3 billion deficit in FAAC, the Oyo state have so far done the following to mitigate the effects of the slash and still pay salaries: a. Boost IGR b. Commit 100% of Federal Allocation to payment of salaries. c. Deployed 72% of Paris Refund to augment workers’ salary payment. d. Diversify economy. e. Engage in Public-Private-Partnerships to shed burden of governance and development on government purse. * Thus, so far, these moves have ensured that only 2 months of workers’ salaries are owed. * This is somewhat commendable when compared to the number of months owed workers in some other states. * And thankfully, a rise in last month’s allocation from the FG in the region of 4.9 billion naira, gives an assurance that all outstanding wages will be cleared soonest. 2. PROJECTS * The Oyo State government has engaged in strong and multiple Public Private Partnerships to sustain the developmental projects across the state. * These developmental projects cut across: a. Education - e.g, Technical University b. Infrastructure - e.g, Ibadan Circular road, expansion and reconstruction ongoing across the state. c. Agriculture - Milk Collection Centre in Saki d. Health - 50 Billion Naira Endowment Fund #AsiwajuNiWa

Health / Breast Cancer Month In Oyo: Celebrating Awareness And Advocacy by sundayadio1: 7:46am On Oct 21, 2017 |
Awareness And Advocacy BY QUICKSILVER Even as Nigeria has the highest cancer death rate in Africa, Breast Cancer still constitutes a major public health issue globally with over 1 million new cases diagnosed annually, resulting in over 400,000 annual deaths and about 4.4 million women living with the disease. Despite the alarming pieces of statistic, a large number of women in Nigeria are still not aware of the risks they bear, mainly due to lack of awareness, poverty, and general lack of availability of equipment and personnel. The Breast Cancer Awareness Month, marked in countries across the world every October, helps to increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment as well as palliative care of this disease. Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer in women worldwide, both in the developed and developing countries. It is recorded as the second leading cause of death in women worldwide. Only lung cancer kills more women each year. 85 per cent of women who have breast cancer do not have a family history of breast cancer, affecting one in eight women during their lives. Cancer is not just a health issue; it has a far reaching social and economic implication, which is why we need to encourage a sister, mother, cousin or friend to get the necessary life saving mammogram, and routinely conduct regular monthly self breast examinations. Currently there is no sufficient knowledge on the causes of breast cancer; therefore, early detection of the disease remains the cornerstone of breastcancer control. When breast cancer is detected early, and if adequate diagnosis and treatment are available, there is a good chance that breast cancercan be cured. If detected late, however, curative treatment is often no longer an option. In such cases, palliative care to relieve the suffering of patients and their families is needed. National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a chance to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer. Make a difference! Spread the word about mammograms and encourage communities, organizations, families, and individuals to get involved. We need to use this opportunity to spread the word about steps women can take to detect breast cancerearly, by simply making healthy lifestyle changes to maintain overall health and well being, and more importantly, practice self-breast examinations every month in order to detect any unfamiliar changes in the breast that can prevent the deadly disease,Breast Cancer, if taken seriously. Spread the word, think Pink!

Politics / Olubadan Review: Let The Court Decide, oyo APC Tells Seriki Head, Others by sundayadio1: 10:56am On Oct 16, 2017 |
OLUBADAN REVIEW: Let the court decide, Oyo APC tells Seriki head, others NEWS BY QUICKSILVER Oyo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the head of the seriki line, Chief Adebayo Oyediji and all those aggrieved with the recent Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration Review to wait for the judgment of the court of law instead of embarking on media vituperations. The party explained that Governor Abiola Ajimobi aligned with the submissions of major stakeholders in the decision arrived at, stating that it is erroneous to say it was political intimidation as posited by Chief Oyediji. The party’s Director of Media, Research and Strategy, Dr AbdulAzeez Olatunde said that all interested parties could join the suit in the court of law, noting that the judiciary is the appropriate place to seek redress and not the media space. He maintained that since the Seriki Chiefs led by Chief Oyediji are already in court on the Olubadan chieftaincy issue, they should wait for the judgment of the court rather than be the judge in their own case. “Now that the case is in court, we want to appeal to all those that are aggrieved to be part of the suit instead of a fruitless media war. However, we want to put it on record that the governor did not do anything to disrupt the ascendancy and succession structure of the Olubadan Chieftaincy stool. “There was only a review of the Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration based on the submissions of memoranda and at public sittings by major stakeholders. However, any objection to the review can be challenged at the court of law which some people are already doing,” Olatunde stressed.– Dr AbdulAzeez Olatunde Director of Media, Research & Strategy Oyo State APC 08034631890

Politics / Alao Akala: I Am Not Leaving APC by sundayadio1: 5:30am On Oct 08, 2017 |
Former Governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Alao Akala has ruled out the possibility of returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), affirming that his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was unshakeable. This is as he said that he had mandated his followers across the state to join him in the APC. Alao Akala, who adorned a white cap tailored in “APC Change”, stated this at an empowerment programme of member representing Ogbomoso North State Constituency, Honourable Wumi Oladeji, held in Ogbomoso, on Saturday. He said the affirmation of his membership of APC was to quell notions that he had accepted the offer to join the opposition. According to him, recent visits to his London house by Governor Abiola Ajimobi and his Ibadan house by the former governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, were all part of playing the game of politics. “I am in APC and this has come to stay. I am not leaving APC. I have told my followers and people of Ogbomoso that we are in APC and nothing can change that. I won’t disappoint you. Don’t be deceived by those saying that I will dump APC.” “We are trying to bring ourselves together so I don’t want to talk about merits or demerits of being in APC. Politics is a game.” “I regard it as the grace of God and it is marvellous in my sight that those in APC and PDP are coming to meet me,” Alao Akala said. On his involvement in the 2019 politics, he said he was waiting for God’s direction. He argued that such discussion on 2019 elections were premature. “In politics, you don’t talk about 2019 in 2017. Anything can happen. I leave everything in God’s and he will answer me when the time comes,” Alao Akala said. 1 Like 1 Share

Politics / How Can Oyo State Be Cleaner? by sundayadio1: 1:56pm On Oct 06, 2017 |
Dear Pacesetters, we INSIST that making Oyo state work is a COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY. These pictures capture a portion of blocked drainages across the P'n'G - Zartech axis inside Oluyole estate. We can all see as the spill on the road is already causing infrastructural damage. Sadly, the real eyesore here is the apparent nonchalant nature of the business owners and users who watch and leave this drainage blocked everyday without deeming it fit to clear it. Keeping our environment clean by ourselves is one of the ways we collectively, together with government efforts, make Oyo state cleaner, healthier and flood-proof; It is an act we MUST inculcate as CIVIC DUTY. #AsiwajuNiWa #AjumoseEnvironment

Politics / Ajimobi Commends Cjn For Sanitizing The Judiciary by sundayadio1: 5:32pm On Oct 05, 2017 |
Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has commended the Chief Justice of Nigeria,Gov Justice Walter Onnoghen, for his ongoing efforts aimed at sanitizing the judiciary of corruption and malfeasance, warning that justice delay is an invitation to anarchy. The governor gave the commendation while inaugurating Mrs. Adenike Adeeyo and Mr. Adebukola Lajide as judges of the state’s High Court, at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office, on Thursday. They were immediately presented with official Prado sport utility vehicles. The governor lauded the state’s judges for living above board by eschewing corrupt practices that may attract sanctions and capable of bringing the state into disrepute. Ajimobi, who congratulated the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Munta Abimbola, for what he called his exemplary leadership, said he was particularly impressed by the impartiality, fearlessness and forthrightness of the state’s judges in the dispensation of justice. The governor said that his administration’s avowed adherence to the independence of the judiciary and supremacy of the rule of law was evident in some cases that the state government had lost, which he said was the beauty of democracy. Ajimobi said, “I must commend the efforts of the new CJN aimed at sanitizing the bench across the nation. Thankfully, our state is considerably exempt from the malfeasance and corruption charges that recently ruffled the judiciary in the country. “To this end, I wish to publicly commend the Chief Judge of Oyo State for his exemplary leadership and sense of fidelity to all that is noble and honourable. I, therefore, admonish our judges to follow his example by holding firmly to their integrity, shunning all acts that can bring the bench to public opprobrium. "We are hopeful that the addition of these two new judges to our bench shall add to the value of justice delivery in our state. We expect that they will approach their new duties with utmost fear of God, coupled with a high sense of integrity, wisdom and candour, so as to justify the confidence reposed in them.” The governor charged judges to work towards effective delivery of justice to redress the crisis of congestion of cases in the courts and to avert subversion of people's rights. If not addressed, Ajimobi warned that court congestion could encourage self-help and promote anarchy in the land. In its commitment to the maintenance of peace, tranquillity and egalitarianism, the governor said that his administration had appointed 13 new judges since 2011, including the two that were inaugurated on Thursday. Ajimobi stressed that the government had never been interested in counting the costs of the said commitments, but had instead chosen to always concentrate on the utilitarian principles that were hinged more on the public good. The governor said, "Every day, our people cry for justice. They complain about the injustice in the land. And the reasons are not farfetched. Our courts are congested with cases, while people's rights are trampled upon by individuals and institutions, thereby posing grave challenges to the effective delivery of justice. "If and when such inadequacies and injustices are allowed to fester unattended, the society unwittingly regresses to that Hobbesian state where ‘life is nasty, brutish and short.’ “It, therefore, becomes imperative for a responsible government to put in place a well-fortified judiciary peopled by eminent legal minds of impeccable character. Such a judiciary must be serviced by highly resourceful professionals who are well versed in the practice and procedures of the law.” Communication Team Governor's Office Ibadan

Education / Oyo State: Education Get A Lift by sundayadio1: 2:45pm On Sep 27, 2017 |
OYO EDUCATION GETS A LIFT Education is the only weapon that the poor have to combat the overbearing attitude and insensitive disposition of the rich in the society. Having recognized this, the Ministry of Education, Oyo State has encouraged some secondary school students to aspire to be intellectual forces to reckon with by facilitating a fully funded scholarship scheme for them on the basis of academic performance. The scholarship is aimed at rewarding academic excellence, research and dedication of the recipients to human capital development in the society. This is commendable and worthy of emulation by other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). As a matter of fact, the scholarship is going to spur the student to more academic success as well as re - position them for better productivity and self sustainability later in life. According to the provisions of the scheme, the students who got the scholarship will enroll into Junior and Senior Secondary Schools as soon as 2017 /2018 academic session resumes this September. In other words, the scholarship is going to encourage more young people to re - adjust their focus to education as they have always thought that, education is not lucrative unlike the entertainment industry. To this end, this scholarship award will motivate more students to re - channel their energy, prowess and know how into their studies in school without undermining the impact and role of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the actualization of their dreams in life. #Koseleri #OyoAsiwajuNiwa #AjumoseEducation |

Amongst many other agricultural strides, the current administration in Oyo state has taken a clear leap in Rice farming with a view to become a major stakeholder in Rice production in the southwestern region and in Nigeria. Few months ago, the state government signed a MoU with the Dangote Group to this same effect; that is, empower rice farming and rice farmers in Oyo state. This below shows an Oyo rice farmer on a 40-acre Rice farm in IGBOPE along the Igbeti-Igboho axis, keying into this drive, happily at that. #AsiwajuNiWa #AjumoseAgriculture 2 Likes 1 Share
