Jobs/Vacancies / Re: NAFDAC RECRUITS by sunville: 5:41pm On Jul 26, 2007
This phenomenom isn't new , they come in different shades. The annoying part is they seem to have immunity to defraud. I was a victim of one of these scams too. Sometime ago an advert was posted for vacancies in an oil and gas coy, and many responded via electronic mail. Mails were later forwarded askin us to supply our passport pictures in electronic format after which we were invited for interview in Abuja.
You need to see the multitude that showed up, must have been like 2000people. They now claimed only about 180 people submitted their picture in the prescribed format and as such we were reqd to arrange for pictures wuth their OWN PHOTOGRAPHER at an exorbitant price of =N=500( Imagine 500*1820) .They were more pre occupied with collecting money for the passport than conducting any interview or test.
It is absurd considering the human and financial resources people have put into coming for such or even the risk of travelling from far and wide.
Many people left disappointed. that is the lot of job seekers in nigeria. The govt needs to be decisive in handling issues like this to serve as deterrent to others
Career / Middle Age/ Middle Mgt Dilemma by sunville: 6:27pm On Jul 18, 2007
Whats ur take on this?
Im a middle aged chap, official age 37yrs , and have worked in the manufacturing and banking sectors for a total of 14years.(2 in mnf and 12in banking)
I am not too impressed with the pace of my career advancement and as such thinking of travelling abroad to go do a masters programme even though i already have an MBA amnd ACA in Nigeria. I am hoping this may boost my chances.
Considering the heacvy financial outlay and my age i am bothered if this will be a worthwhile venture.
If it is what course(s) do u think will be very marketable , yet not too costly to pursue?
If it isn't then what is the way out noting that one's stay in the bank may not be for too long , MDS are now under 40 so if u are not in the top bracket at this age one might be on his way out to make room for the "whizkids"

Career / Re: MBA Salaries In Nigeria? by sunville: 1:50pm On Jul 18, 2007
Its surprising the different shades of opinion on this topic
I commend  the patriotic zeal  you are exhibitting. With the kind of qualification u are parading i am sure you'd be an easy sell in nigeria. Nigerian companies go ga ga  over foreign  qualifications to the extent that many of us  are ready to selll all we have  to  get this foreign qualifications despite having obtained several nigerian qualifications and several years working experience.
One other thing you can do , learn to be a good public speaker- it's icing on the cake. With this  you can sell yourself to any organisation by making some noise about yourself.
Income disparity in this country is a topic you can do an Mba thesis on. Some people in the oil and telecom sector can make between 10mil and 25mil per annum , in the banks , between 3mil and 12mill per annum, in the cosultancy, between 2mil and about 10mil while in the public sector it is between 500k and only god knows.
if u are seriously desirous of coming home you should have started posting your cv all over, start with the banks, go to their websites and also the big cosultancy outfits too. it will do you well to start early.
Best wishes.
