Health / Unknown Health Hazards Of Mobile Phones by tattesco(m): 2:57pm On Jul 05, 2016
Heart problems

RADIATION from cell phones is not only associated
with cancer but also with chronic diseases like heart
problems. According to a study published in the
European Journal of Oncology, radiations emitted by
cordless phones, including mobiles, contribute to
abnormalities in heart function. Results reported that radiation causes the red blood cells to seep
haemoglobin and lead to heart complications.

Infertility

Beware men! Your phone can even make you
infertile. As of now, there’s enough evidence to show
that mobile phone radiation decreases sperm count
in male rats. To identify whether the same holds true in humans, Wdowiak and colleagues carried out a research, which revealed that the group of men who used mobile phones had a decreased sperm cell count in their semen, leading to infertility.

Hearing impairment

Today, every alternate person on the street has
earphones plugged in. But that’s not the only reason
why hearing loss is increasing in youths and adults.
Your mobile radiation is an additional factor that’s
making you deaf. Studies report that long-term
exposure to electromagnetic field from cell phones
contributes to reducing hearing function. A study by
Oktay and Dasdag showed that people who spent
approximately two hours on phone calls every day
were at a higher risk of impaired hearing compared
to moderate users who spent 10 to 20 minutes.

Eye problems

A lot of people use their mobiles to read e-books; do
web surfing, etc. apart from texting. When you do so, the glaring screen and small font size put a lot of
strain on your eyes, especially if you’re reading in the dark. Mobile devices have smaller screens so you tend to squint or open up your eyes wide and blink lesser number of times. This can cause dry eyes, irritation and reddening.

Skin allergies

Most mobile phones have a typical metallic sheen to
make them look more attractive. Such phones
contain potential skin allergens like nickel, chromium and cobalt, which cause cell phone dermatitis. A study by Marcella Aquino and colleagues tested 72 cell phones for the presence of nickel and cobalt.
According to the results, about 29.4 per cent of
Blackberry models were tested positive for nickel,
90.5 per cent of flip phones were positive for nickel
and about 52 per cent of flip phones had cobalt.

Infections

Avoid using your cell phones in the toilet. Cell phones not only serve as a home for your valuable data but also carry millions of infectious organisms. A study found that mobile devices are highly contaminated
with organisms from faecal origin. They are a niche
for several germs like E.coli (known to cause vomiting and diarrhoea) and Staphylococcus aureus (known to cause skin infections).

Stress

The general desperate nature of people to be
available 24/7 on their mobiles is responsible for
their increasing stress levels.

Education / ASUU-aaua Begins Indefinite Strike. by tattesco(m): 6:29pm On Jul 04, 2016
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko Chapter has resolved to embark on an indefinite strike starting from today.

In a congress resolution report sent to all members by the Chairperson Dr Sola Fayose informing them of the approval by the national on its request to allow members withdraw their services following three months of outstanding salaries and non remittance of deductions for seven months

See full statement below :

Congress Resolution:
Non Payment of Salaries/Deductions and Withdrawal of Service.
Following past engagements on the issues of salary and deduction payments, particularly the resolutions of the Congress meeting of 15th June, 2016, conveying the displeasure of our members on the issues of salary and deduction payments, the Congress of ASUU-AAUA met today, 4th July, 2016, to get feedbacks on the consultations the branch initiated with the national on its request to allow members withdraw their services following three months outstanding salaries and non-remittance of deductions for seven months.
Congress was informed of the approval of national to allow members of ASUU-AAUA withdraw their services until all outstanding salaries (3 months) and deductions (7 months) are FULLY paid. ALL MEMBERS ARE, THEREFORE, DIRECTED TO WITHDRAW THEIR SERVICES WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT. This withdrawal affects all formal engagements/activities.
Having waited in vain these past months to see a positive turning around, we are left with no other choice than this last resort, as our members have been systematically, financially, psychologically and morally disempowered.
It is hoped that these issues would be resolved soon to allow us effectively resume the performance of our services to the University.
Yours in the struggle,
Dr. Sola Fayose
Chairperson
For and on behalf of ASUU-AAUA

Family / Living Together Before Marriage: Is It The Best Idea? by tattesco(m): 11:14am On Sep 17, 2015
There are a lot of reasons a couple might want to consider living together long before they are able to make things ‘official’ between them.
It can be due to financial advantages, or they have child together. It could also be due to the fact that they are saving up for a wedding and they simply cannot wait until then to be together.
There are a few advantages of having a live-in partner, such as;
– Giving each other a chance to know each other well before marriage. It is almost impossible to know someone truly well unless you live with them, and doing this before marriage could give you a good idea on what to expect. It could even make it clearer for you regarding whether or not you will like to continue in the relationship.
– Giving the couple a chance to spend time with their children. Often times, when a couple have children together before marriage, it might get difficult for the both of them to spend adequate time with the children if they live apart.
– Solve long-distance relationship problem. Sometimes, distance can become a huge barrier to a blossoming relationship, and the only way to avoid this is if one partner is willing to move from their location and settle with the other.
One big concern for couples when it comes to living together is the fact that they might get so comfortable with the situation that they would not want to be married anymore. This is a valid concern as a lot of people tend to get comfortable if they do not have any reason to change their situation. So if you are considering living with your partner, keep the tips below in mind;

1. Know the end date: Have a date in mind for when the wedding will take place and work towards it. Do not move in together with only a vague idea of when you both will make things official.
2. Know your partner: Some people are afraid of commitment, and when they see someone that is willing to live with them unofficially, they will jump on the chance, leaving their partner heartbroken and disappointed at the end of the day. Make sure your goals are the same as your partner’s. Be sure they want to be married as much as you do. Do not enable a partner who is looking for an easy way out of making commitment.
3. Have a good reason: You must make sure you both have a good, tangible reason for living together before marriage and you both must make sure you understand this. This way, when all things get solved, it will be clear to you both that it is time to make the ultimate commitment to each other.
4. Keep some things to yourself: You know the saying “why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free”? Well, do not be so willing to give a hundred percent of yourself to someone else when they have not made that commitment to you. Keep some things close to your chest. For instance, you can choose to live with someone, but make it clear that you will not bring kids into the mix until you are officially married. It is easy for one partner to enjoy the benefits of a live-in lover so much that they take advantage of it, but if you give them a reason to commit, they just might.
5. Know when to walk: You do not want to be one of those people who are stuck living with a partner for years without any wedding date in mind.
If it looks like your partner is taking advantage of you this way, do not be afraid to leave this arrangement, as it is better to leave late and give yourself another chance at love than staying in a terrible and unhappy situation. Living together with a partner is not a completely bad idea if you know what you are doing and if you have a plan. There could be great benefits to be reaped, but it could also result in heartbreak so it is always important to be careful.
