Phones / Re: Blackberry Playbook: Anyone? by TCD1: 8:26pm On Jul 28, 2012 |
Last but not the least in the streaming family, internet radio streaming. For that, tried a few radio apps, but because of that ip thingy i describe above, most wont let me have access. So far, only use Nobex radio app and I'm okay with it. Although it lets me only listen to UK radio stations coz of my ip but i dont mind. Amogst many others i get the BBC word servce radio and also Talk sport a 24 hour sport radio station in the Uk with live commentaries of premiership, champs league, tennis, basketball etc etc. I just need my bluetooth head set and I'm on.

Niiade: TCD wanna ask, can one download the OS2 on a laptop and sideload it on a PB. Thanksits possible but one would need the Playbook to be up and running coz you'll need the development mode enabled to sideload the OS using dingleberry. So this won't work on a new playbook yet to be set-up. For a brand new playbook yet to be set up, you'll need to create a "playbook update server" to trick desktop manager into loading the local copy of the OS yiu have on your system instead of connecting to RIM's servers to download which could take hours. It's really complex, the easiest is dingleberry but as you know won't work for a new pb yet to be set up. |

Strange to me. What does desktop manager do or say when u connect the playbook? What about ur computer, does it recognize something has been plugged in and tries to install the driver? Have u tried another usb port on your computer, or tried another different laptop entirely. This stuff is all about troubleshooting, you have to cast your net wide and think of everything as the problem could be from anywhere. For your malfunctioning bold 5 (which is a terrible phone from blackberry imo ) reloading the software wouldn't hurt, it might help, don't forget to back up before. Also make sure the problem isn't a battery contact issue if ur battery isn't held tightly in place, it's going to cause these kinda probe. |

Damn, got banned again. I tire o. As at now, there is no way besides getting DM to at least recognize your playbook so you can update. If you can't do that, you have to keep trying. It took me a few tries to get it. |

u2 1 day:Its not just about unlimited downoloads. But at what price? 3 uk offers the nexus one in a promo of unlimited downloads at 35pounds a month minimum.I think you can get that at 5 pounds for BIS. Which means its 600% more expensive than the BIS. In most countries blackberry connect rates are the cheapestm why do u think many social networking-hungry youths are running to bb's? Also, the networks love Bb's coz they heavily compress data. A nokia phone uses as much bandwith as 3 blackberry users. So u see why the mobile networks are happy with blackberrys? |

Mafia4life:You are right bro, you have to need the bb services to enjoy it. What many people fail to understand is the Blackberry is primarily designed to work with the BIS/BES. I have seen it being described by RIM as an out-of-the-box functionality which can simply mean it should be used with it. RIM's blackberry is just a means to an end, the MAIN service provided by the company are the BIS n BES. So anyone buying a blackberry without the intention of connecting to be service , is just wasting his time. It's actually not right to consider the blackberry Device in itself without its BIS/BES services after all, It's around that core that the hardware and OS itself were designed. I use a blackberry and an E72. The truth is I bought the curve solely for the Blackberry services as everyone should be doing. That however doesn't mean the blackberry doesn't do many other things. It does, It has even a better screen resolution, decent camera, plays music and videos excellently, better speakers (than my E72), better RAM and RAM management than my E72, GPS, maps, I also read my Ebooks(mobireader) there etc, all in addition to the business functions and add to that the cheap BIS. Now, when you guys talk about you can do this and do that(functionality) on your Nokia, truth is they are all third party apps, Is that not so? A blackberry has the Hardware to do some of those things it just requires someone writing the app for the blackberry Os. There is NOTHING extra-ordinary, it just requires the developers out there to write a version for bb and zam! Its on the bb. One thing I've noticed is most Blackberry apps are designed to work with the BIS. Even a small app like my dictionary as soon as I type a word connects to the internet to retrieve the word meaning. What does this tell you? The blackberry is basically designed to work with the BIS and it's apps will be designed to work around this core service. So without the BIS you will not have fun and some functionality, that's the intention. A reason why there is a dearth of some of those your fun and wow apps on the blackberry platform has to do with the fact that the blackberry is primarily a business phone so probably no much interest amongst business users. A phone like nokia and the rest will have apps based on their design. They have no BIS/BES so fun apps will be produced that allow u have fun in an offline mode. Same thing for games too, java games work on blackberries even at that I don't see much business users as game freaks so RIM concentrating on ps2 emulator games on a bb will be pure madness. You guys are trying to make the blackberry sound like total wack when in actual fact it's not true. It can do many of the things your phones do but being a unique device, it's functions will therefore be tailored around its service and business too. Let's be truthful to ourselves. |

kenis: Lol. Paypal kidnapping, na so. Lol Anyway, you have every right to hype your device, e dey constitution. As far as I'm concerned, ones man's meat is another man's poison. You judge the worth of something not based on the monetary value but the value it adds to you. You might look at that old car and say its totally worthless. Well, that isn't true, to that your friend that old car is worth millions or his life and won't sell to you for a billion dollars. Value is first and foremost a thing of the mind. So it depends on the individual. Thanks for your advice anyway. |

Its a pity I've been banned by the spambot while replying to Kenis last post. @kenis. In summary, Opera does not have end-end encryption in the real sense of it. Besides, encryption pass wncryption. We all know WAP and WEP encryptions for wireless lan but we know which is better don't we? Look up blackberry encruption and tell me what u see. WackyJ1:Add to that list, 3. BIS 4 BES 5. Cheap cheap Internet. 6. Unlimited bandwith |
