This is just d bitter truth many Nigerians will never want to agree with cos blacks like to lie to themselves a lot

Me n my friends have been stopped many times n I realize the only thing those police officers care about is what u do for a living n a proof of it, once u can present these things they will just tell u to find them something

But u see all those yahoo boys, imagine a small boy driving a Benz with his name on it n he doesn’t have any proof to what he does/did to acquire that, then police will extort him cos he’s into shady things

I just laugh when some people talk about police brutality, don’t let us lie to ourselves everyone knows d criminals among us….enter anywhere be it eatery, mall or anywhere n u will b able to recognize youths that are into shady things

From d lousy wear to useless hairstyles to different piercings n tattoos police identify them easily n once they know they are guilty then they will have to pay

Before u quote me ask yourself if all these things are lies, even my 7 year old neighbor son can point a yahoo boy on d street by observing his dressing alone

We all know d truth but we take delight in lieing to ourselves

Which work is a secondary school boy from a poor home is doing that is making him use a phone of 400k?

Which work is a university drop out with no job doing to suddenly buy Lexus?

Which work is a university student doing to build hostel in his school?

What work is a jobless person doing to suddenly start flaunting flashy things?

People will turn a blind eye n even tag anyone that tries to question them “ jealous “ “envious “ bad belle n co not knowing they are emboldening criminals

Sports / Cristiano Ronaldo Shows Off New Jacob & Co. Heart Of Cr7 Baguette Watch by teegrams(m): 4:03pm On May 15, 2023
As a long-standing and close partner of luxury watch company Jacob & Co., global football icon Cristiano Ronaldo was recently at the brand’s Riyadh, Saudi Arabia store for its opening. At the luxury watchmaker's biggest store yet, Ronaldo, a brand ambassador, donned a new timepiece from the brand. At the opening event in Riyadh last week, the Portuguese footballer sported an emerald-colored gift. Taking to Instagram, Ronald shared his new “Heart of CR7 Baguette” timepiece as a part of the Jacob & Co x CR7 Epic X collection to celebrate the star player. The watches are designed to represent Ronaldo and his CR7 brand.

The watch features a 44 mm case and X-shaped lugs, along with a smooth and polished bezel and a colored crown and flange. Powered by one of Jacob & Co.’s most emblematic calibers, the watch sees two vertical pillars that form the central part of the X shape by the lugs. The wrist piece is one of four new watches that feature the soccer player. With a diamond-set bezel and an image of Ronaldo himself in his typical celebratory pose, the watch is valued at approximately $117,000 USD. The skeleton barrel cover is also shaped like a soccer ball while a tainted sapphire crystal case back with Ronaldo in his No. 7 jersey is highlighted. The new Jacob & Co. store in Riyadh spans 2,400 square feet. The brand aims to open shops across all continents, including at least 10 more this year in locations like Mumbai, Hong Kong, Macao, and Bahrein. Take a look at the watch above or below.

Nairaland / General / Top 10 African Cities With The Fastest-growing Millionaire Population by teegrams(m): 9:07am On Apr 21, 2023
The top 10 African cities with the fastest-growing millionaire populations in 2023. This list is courtesy of the World’s Wealthiest Cities 2023 report by consultancy New World Wealth and Henley Partners. South Africa has the most cities of any African country featured on the list. As the world's economy continues to develop, the number of millionaires has also increased over the years. With their wealth, these individuals can invest in businesses, properties, and other ventures, thus contributing to the growth of cities and economies worldwide.

The presence of wealthy individuals in a city can have a significant impact on the local economy and community. While some may view them as a symbol of inequality, their investments, and contributions can create opportunities for growth and development. The World’s Wealthiest Cities 2023 report by consultancy New World Wealth and Henley Partners was recently released and it showed commercial cities with the fastest-growing numbers of dollar millionaires. The most recent research, which examines global patterns in the private wealth movement, lists high net-worth persons with a net worth of at least $1 million, centi-millionaires (those with a net worth of over $100 million), and dollar billionaires.

The World's Wealthiest Cities Report 2023's data on high-net-worth individuals contains the majority of the top wealth centers globally and spans 97 cities in nine continents (Africa, Australasia, CIS, East Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North America, South Asia, and Southeast Asia). The information is provided by wealth intelligence firm New World Wealth, which is presently the only independent wealth research agency routinely following patterns in the movement of money across national borders and cities. The company keeps track of the whereabouts and spending patterns of approximately 150,000 high-net-worth people in its database (with a focus on those with more than USD 10 million in investable assets). Below are 10 African cities with the fastest-growing millionaire populations in from 2012-2022:

Rank City Country HNWI % growth (2012-2022) Global rank
1. Kigali Rwanda 72% 14th
2. Marrakech Morocco 55% 29th
3. Mombasa Kenya 35% 47th
4. Tangier Morocco 33% 48th
5. Nairobi Kenya 30% 52nd
6. Casablanca Morocco 28% 54th
7. Whale Coast South Africa 25% 56th

Nairaland / General / 5 Promising Investment Sectors In Nigeria To Watch by teegrams(m): 12:58pm On Apr 18, 2023
Despite market challenges, Nigeria offers several investment opportunities in fintech, mobility, agriculture, renewable energy, and infrastructure. Fintech remains an untapped sector, with potential in SME financing, social commerce financing, and delivery. Agriculture and renewable energy also offer significant potential, while building infrastructure is crucial for Nigeria to attract investment. In a recent interview some insights were gained from Victor Basta, CEO at DAI Magister, regarding Nigeria's investment landscape. Despite facing several adverse market conditions such as economic volatility, high inflation rate, exchange rate concerns, and political uncertainty, Nigeria still offers numerous sectors ready for investment. In this article, we will explore these sectors, which include fintech, mobility, agriculture, renewable energy, and infrastructure.

Fintech

Firstly, fintech has been the most invested sector in Nigeria, and it remains untapped, particularly in sectors such as SME financing, social commerce financing and delivery, aggregation, and financing of smallholder farmer output. Mobile money is yet to be rolled out, and services such as insurance and higher-yielding savings are barely deployed at scale. For a $500bn economy, there remains a huge opportunity in core fintech. In addition to leaders such as Flutterwave, Paystack, and Interswitch, we are seeing emerging growth companies such as Migo, Carbon, Nomba, and PiggyVest begin to scale to levels that naturally attract international investors who are not 'required' to invest in Africa but rather are looking for a minimum scale irrespective of geography.

Mobility (Transport and Delivery)

Secondly, mobility sectors are a growing area of investment, given Nigeria's poor infrastructure and lack of rail transport. Companies such as Max.ng and GIG are deploying technology to improve social commerce deliveries and inter-city transport, while Kobo360 is the largest technology-driven long-haul logistics company in the region. Autochek is enabling the resale of vehicles in Nigeria through a tech-enabled vehicle marketplace and financing offerings.

Agriculture

Thirdly, agriculture is Nigeria's largest sector, and prominent tech-enabled growth companies such as ThriveAgric and Releaf have achieved the scale necessary to attract international capital. Thrive has built a loyal base of nearly half a million smallholder farmers who receive higher prices and better services.

Renewable Energy

Fourthly, renewable energy, specifically solar, has huge potential, with companies such as Daystar and StarSight expanding operations in Nigeria. There remain a host of players competing in both the residential market and the commercial market. Many of these players, including M-KOPA and d. Light has also expanded to mobile phones, and will expand further to solar appliances as they fill out their offerings. With the oil price seemingly set to remain high, the economic rationale for accelerating solar deployments in Nigeria is more compelling now than ever before.

Infrastructure

Finally, building basic infrastructure for a true Internet economy is essential for Nigeria to attract investment. Kasi and Rack Centre are leading the charge in building modern data center operations in Lagos. Nigeria is an essential part of Africa's growth ambitions, and it's crucial that it attracts the biggest share of the continent's $5bn start-up funding. There are dozens of high-quality Nigerian tech-enabled companies that need investment to scale to continental leadership. Many macro factors in Nigeria will begin to moderate in 2023, and with steps that show clear intent, Nigeria can become investable again.

Nairaland / General / Tiktok Hit With Nearly $16 Million UK Fine by teegrams(m): 5:03pm On Apr 04, 2023
The UK data regulator has fined TikTok £12.7 million ($15.9 million) for a number of breaches of data protection law, including misusing children’s personal data. The Information Commissioner’s Office estimates that, in 2020, TikTok allowed more than 1 million UK children under 13 to use its platform in violation of its own rules. The ICO said Tuesday that TikTok had not done enough to check who was using its platform, failed to take action to remove underage children and hadn’t provided proper information to users about how their data was being collected and used. The fine applies to rule breaches between May 2018 and July 2020. John Edwards, the UK Information Commissioner, said: “There are laws in place to make sure your children are as safe in the digital world as they are in the physical world. TikTok did not abide by those laws.” He added: “TikTok should have known better. TikTok should have done better.” A spokesperson for TikTok told CNN that the company “invest[s] heavily to help keep under 13s off the platform” and that it disagreed with the ICO’s decision.

“Our 40,000-strong safety team works around the clock to help keep the platform safe for our community,” the spokesperson said. The fine comes as a string of Western countries turn their back on the Chinese-owned video streaming platform. Australia will ban the use of TikTok on government devices “as soon as practicable,” the country’s attorney-general announced earlier on Tuesday, citing security concerns. The United States, Britain and Canada have all announced similar bans, while in New Zealand the app was due to be removed from all devices with access to the country’s parliament by the end of March.

More than architectural masterpieces or fascinating cultures, one of the greatest incentives to visit a foreign nation is the security it promises.

Unfortunately, Africa is scarred with stereotypes that almost irreparably tainted the continent’s image. Like everywhere else in the world, Africa has its setbacks, but for some reason, these setbacks have given the continent a bad rep, and largely deterred foreigners from coming to explore all the beauties the motherland has to offer.

However, an in-depth look into regional security has revealed that Africa is fairly peaceful and some countries on the continent are simply some of the most peaceful in the world.

A study from the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) Sydney showed the security index of 163 countries on the planet, and while some African countries came in as very hostile, numerous African nations were proven to be peaceful.

The study used a metric system known as the Global Peace Index (GPI). The GPI uses 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators from highly respected sources. It measures the state of peace across three domains: the level of societal Safety and Security; the extent of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict; and the degree of Militarization.

The GPI is also determined by factors such as increased military spending, new and emerging uses of technology in the war, its impact on food prices, and global shipping routes.

According to the report, the average level of global peacefulness deteriorated by 0.3%, largely because of the Russia/Ukraine conflict. However, conflicts in Guinea, and Burkina Faso, also contributed to this decline.

Outside of this, the report details that the largest improvements occurred in South Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. Additionally, the five countries with the largest improvements in their global peace index were Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and Algeria.

This year alone saw the end of the Ethiopia-Tigray war, a swift response to rebel activities in East Africa, and the forfeiture of terrorist affiliations in West Africa.

While Africa still has a long way to go, some regions are very peaceful, regions considered to be in the green and yellow zone. Countries in the green zone have a high state of peace, those in the yellow zone have a medium state of peace, those in the orange zone have a low state of peace and those in the red zone have a very low state of peace.

Below are 10 of the most peaceful countries in Africa in 2022. Some of the countries that appear on this list also appeared in last year’s.

Romance / 5 Best Free Dating Apps For Young Adults by teegrams(m): 5:29pm On Oct 26, 2022
Are you looking for the best free dating apps for teenagers and young adults? Then you've come to the right place.

If you're having trouble finding the right match for you, why not turn to online dating? Any stigma online dating had in the past is gone, with dozens of apps to choose from and thousands of couples crediting their love to these apps.

In this article, we'll show you the best free dating apps for young adults (anyone aged 18 to 25), along with some advice for using them.

A Warning on Age Restrictions

While using any dating apps, we advise you to take caution with regard to age. Don't take anyone's age at face value, and be careful of predators looking to take advantage of apps aimed at younger people. We'll share some safety tips after we discuss the apps.

1. OkCupid

For a free dating app, OkCupid is the gold standard. The site uses powerful algorithms to find you the right matches.

OkCupid asks you to answer many personality questions when you sign up. As you do, you also select the answers you'd find acceptable in a partner. These questions range from the serious, like the importance of religion in your life, to the silly, like what crime you'd most likely be thrown in jail for.

By browsing others' public answers, you can get a good idea of whether they're a good fit for you. Messaging on OkCupid is free for everyone. This is great because you don't have to pay to talk to someone you like, but it opens the door for unsolicited creepy messages.

The DoubleTake features offer a Tinder-like swiping interface for easy match evaluation, while the Discover tab highlights matches from a variety of criteria. You can upgrade to the paid Premium plan to see who liked you, add more search filters, and more.

Overall, OkCupid is a good fit for people who want to try standard online dating without paying. It's also less focused on hookups than some other options.

2. Tinder

You can't have a discussion about dating apps for young adults without talking about Tinder. The app arguably popularized the dating app scene (succeeding past website-only dating services) and is still going strong.

Its interface is simple: swipe right if you like someone, and swipe left if you're not interested. If two people swipe right on each other, they have the opportunity to exchange messages. But you can't send messages to anyone without matching first

That's really all there is to it. The majority of Tinder users are under 35, so it's a great choice for younger people. In the past, Tinder was notorious for being heavily geared toward hookup culture.

However, it has come a long way. Over the years, we've increasingly heard testimonials about couples who've tied the knot after meeting on Tinder. This proves that it's possible to find a long-term partner on Tinder, so those looking for a serious relationship should give it a shot.

Unlike before, Tinder allows you to match with people globally, so you can connect with people hundreds of miles away if you're unlucky in your country. The free version of Tinder limits the number of right swipes you get

3. PlentyOfFish

PlentyOfFish (POF) is another well-known free dating site. Its sheer size makes it a good option for finding a match, though sorting through all the noise can be a bit tough.

POF offers several ways to connect. Like OkCupid, it's free to message anyone. You can also use the Nearby tab to look through other mobile users who are Live near you.

Meanwhile, the Meet Me section brings the familiar Tinder-like interface of swiping on profiles. Use the Live feature to meet other singles in real-time in a live stream.

An upgraded POF membership offers extended profile viewing, unlimited likes, username search, and more. A minor drawback is that PlentyOfFish's interface is pretty dated and a bit cluttered, especially on the web. But it's certainly worth a try.

4. Bumble

If you want to try a dating app alternative to Tinder, Bumble is for you. This app uses the same swiping gestures and simple profiles as Tinder, but with one crucial difference: women always make the first move.

Once two people swipe right on each other, the woman can choose whether to start a conversation. If she doesn't do so within 24 hours, the match disappears. In a same-sex match, either person can initiate the conversation.

To help combat abuse, Bumble has a photo moderation feature. This asks you to upload a clear photo of yourself, which lets others know you're a legitimate profile. Failing to do so prevents you from using the app.

5. Coffee Meets Bagel

If you find the onslaught of matches in other apps overwhelming, Coffee Meets Bagel (CMB) is for you. The app takes a curated approach: at noon each day, the app sends you a handful of matches ("bagels"wink. Thus, instead of swiping through tons of people's profiles, you can check out a few and see if you're interested in them.

Potential matches can be found in the Suggested and Discover tabs. Once you match, you'll be able to start a conversation. CMB even provides some starter questions to ease you in.

Upgrading to CMB's Premium plan adds information about how often your matches respond to chats, read receipts, plus more features.

Advice for Online Dating Safely

Now that you have five great dating apps to choose from, let's review some important points about dating safely online.

Meet Up Safely

After you connect and chat in an app for a while, you'll eventually want to meet your potential match in person. This is great, but it's important to take care when doing so.

You should always meet in a public place, like a restaurant or coffee shop. Having lots of other people around reduces the chance of your date threatening you or something similar.

It's also wise to drive yourself to the date (don't let them pick you up). Let some friends or family know where you're going and how long you expect to be, just in case something happens.

You should also avoid drinking alcohol the first few times you meet to avoid that layer of complication.

Avoid Common Scams

Unfortunately, the free nature of many dating apps opens them up to scams. Always be on the lookout for signs that a profile is looking to rip you off.

These warning signs inlclude:

Their photos are edited or stolen.
They ask you to chat on another app or via email right away.
They send strange links for you to click on.
They start asking for personal details.
They request money.

If your husband is always coming home late, here are 4 things you can do to stop him :

1. Always make him happy before going out every day

Knowing full well that there is a woman at home who will always put a smile or a laugh on your wife will be a push for him to start coming home early, even if he needs to go out with his friends, he will have to leave early.

2. Check in with him by calling him

If you can visit him at his workplace, do it. Doing so always puts you in his mind and he will miss being with his wife. It also keeps in his mind that his home is the palace of happiness and peace.

3. Pray for him, you can never tell

Make sure you always pray for him so that you can steal him away from whoever wants to steal him away.

4. When he comes home, always greet him with respect and strong admiration.

Register in his mind that there is a place that he is welcomed like a king whenever he returns from work, and that makes him feel loved and would stop staying out late.

Travel / JAPA: Nigerians Have Spent $11.6 Billion On Foreign Education In 3 Years -study by teegrams(m): 9:57am On Oct 06, 2022
Nigerians continue to troop in their numbers in pursuit of foreign academic qualifications; for many of them, it is a means of leaving the country. A cursory review of Nigeria’s balance of payment report showed that Nigerians spent a sum of $11.6 billion (N5 trillion) on foreign education between 2019 and to date. On the flip side, the African giant did not attract any form of inflow from foreign students. This is not surprising given the current state of the Nigerian educational system, with university students counting over seven months at home as a result of ASUU strike actions. The discord between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has seen Nigerian university students stay home from February 14, 2022. The strike action and drop in education standards as well as the economic downturn have contributed to the massive brain drain and increased interest in studying abroad.

Nigerian young populace has tapped into study visas as a perfect formula to “japa” from Nigeria, an expression that is used to represent escaping from the country. In another similar article, Nigerian companies are currently faced with an exodus of resignations, as foreign schools resumed academic activities and both young and old citizens jumped on the leaving train abroad. A further look at the data showed that the amount spent by Nigerians on foreign education dropped significantly in the second half of 2020 following the movement restrictions placed by most economies to curb the spread of the covid-19 in 2020.

However, the numbers are beginning to move upward following the reopening of borders and resumption of physical academic activities across various schools. Notably, a sum of $882 million was spent on education-related expenditure by Nigerians in the first half of 2022, a 34.3% increase when compared to the $657 million spent in the second half of last year.

Impact on the Nigerian economy
The massive brain drain currently ravaging the Nigerian corporate world is leaving a huge skill gap in most organizations, as it seems the best hands are the ones jumping on the “Japa” trend, making an imperative case for firms to train and retrain their staff to fill the space. This has also meant more competition in terms of hiring as firms now develop strategies to outwit themselves in getting the remaining best hands in the industry.
Some firms have had to adopt a more flexible work environment, in order to allow employees that prefer to work as part-time, or from remote locations to fit into their work schedule.

Foreign education spending requires the availability of foreign exchange, something which the Nigerian economy is in shortage of at the moment. The increased demand for the dollar to pay for foreign services, speculative needs, and importation amongst others have caused a significant depreciation in the local currency against the US dollar.

A look at the Nairalytics exchange rate tracker showed that the official exchange rate fell to a record low of N437.5/$1 on Wednesday, 5th September 2022, the lowest level on record. This represents an N21/$ drop when compared to an average of N416/$1 recorded in the previous year.
It is interesting to note that the low volatility in the official exchange rate is only a result of the constant intervention by the Central Bank, which has constrained the nation’s foreign reserve, losing over $2 billion year-to-date.

In the parallel market, the exchange rate has seen worse movements, trading as low as N730/$1, an N165/$1 depreciation from N565/$1 recorded at the beginning of the year. A decline that is fuelled by increased demand, speculations, and inadequate supply.
The implication of increased foreign exchange spending is that it piles more pressure on the exchange rate and as a result depreciates the local currency when the supply of FX is inadequate.

Commercial banks have however mandated travelers in need of dollars for Personal Travel Allowance (PTA) and Business Travel Allowance (BTA) to get travel debit cards as they began the disbursements of dollars through cards. A move aimed at curbing the abuse by travelers who get forex but fail to use it for trip-related purposes. This is following the continuous scarcity of FX in some banks to meet travelers’ demands.
It is worth noting that, Nigerians leaving the country for other climes will be helping the receiving country to develop, leaving a huge gap in the departing economy. Meanwhile, some Nigerians who do not have the financial means to travel abroad at the moment, are taking courses online from foreign universities in readiness for when the opportunity presents itself.

Upshot

The continuous strike actions by public universities in Nigeria are aiding the massive intellectual flight currently being witnessed in the country. Coupled with the economic issues, insecurity, living condition, and access to adequate infrastructure ravaging the African giant. It is important for the Nigerian government to improve the state of Nigeria’s public education while allowing for more private players to operate in the sector, in order to attract investments and develop a more robust educational system void of strike actions, and someday be a destination for foreign students to study in.

Crime / Dangote Workers Shot As Kogi Government Vigilantes Invades Cement Plant by teegrams(m): 5:36am On Oct 06, 2022
No fewer than seven staff of Dangote Cement, Obajana in Kogi State were shot and several others injured as over 500 armed members of the state’s security outfit, the Vigilantes, stormed the cement factory in the early hours of today (Wednesday) at the instance of the state governor, Yahaya Bello.

Meanwhile, members of the mining and host communities have condemned the Kogi State Government for what they described as the extra-judicial and unlawful deployment of the vigilantes to cause chaos in the Obajana community.

The vigilante group was led by the state director-general of lands; commissioner for solid minerals, senior special assistant to the governor on security,  Commodore Jerry Omodara(rtd), chairman of Kabba/Bunnu LGA, chairman of Ijumu LGA, and the state ALGON chairman, Alh. Taofeek; senior special assistant on job creation, Mr. Dele Iselewa and chairman of Lokoja LGA, Alh. Mohammed Dansabe.

The vigilante group members were wielding arms of different kinds, including local and assorted rifles as residents and passersby scampered for safety.

At the time of this report, seven staff of the cement company were being attended to at hospitals over the gunshot wounds inflicted on them.

A source who identified some of the vigilante men as thugs said most of them were drawn from state vigilante and hunters who have been working for the state government.

Mr. David Oluruntoba, spokesman for the Oyo Mining host community described the act as primitive and disgraceful, saying the youths of the community can never be used, and will not take part in such ‘evil practices.

He said: “They called us to join them. But I told them that the company has not offended us. We just signed a Community Development Agreement (CDA) and the company has been helping us and providing us with jobs. What has the government done for us? Nothing! There is no basis to support the government.”

Speaking in the same vein, the spokesman for Iwaa mining community, Rotimi Kekereowo said: “We would never support the government on this matter. What have they done for us? We don’t have a single political appointment at the state level. Even when we had problems with electricity and flooding, it was Dangote that was helping us. So, I want to repeat it. We will never support them.”

Speaking also, the Olu of Akpata, Fredrick Balogun said he was never contacted and as such cannot justify the unwarranted invasion.

“We are royal fathers, and we will continue to seek the path of reconciliation and amicable resolution of any misunderstanding. We don’t have issues with the company,” he charged.

Mathew Ojonuga, a resident said important issue like flooding in the state, which has rendered many homeless has not been attended to only to be chasing private companies that have been providing us with means of livelihood.

He said, “the state governor should face the issue of flooding and let the people live in peace. If there are issues, let him employ dialogue and resolve it rather than this kind of use of force.”

At the main gate, a disagreement ensued between the thugs and the few policemen guarding the plant, as they shot sporadically into the air to disperse all staff and community members. By this time, the vigilantes had succeeded in locking both entrance and exit gates of the company with many workers stranded.

Career / How To Work In Tech Without Technical Experience by teegrams(m): 2:31pm On Oct 05, 2022
This is one of the questions I get asked a lot as a software professional. I decided to collect the thoughts and advice I’ve shared with my friends in the past. “The IT industry” is such a wide statement these days and there are so many different job types that getting your head around them is not the easiest if you’re not an insider. In this article, I am going to describe a few areas of expertise that may be attractive to people willing to try working in the field. A word of caution. I know that some of you reading the article came here because you saw others making great careers and earning a good living by working in technology. It is true that the field is relatively young and there are fewer glass ceilings and opportunities when compared to other areas. The industry is still hungry for new people.

That said, I believe growing a career in tech is not very different from doing that in any other area. You can benefit from some rapid movements in the market, sure. But if you’re not at all interested in it and your motivation is purely financial, you may be setting yourself up for a few unhappy years. Give it a try though! Working with technology can be extremely fulfilling, even if you didn’t think of yourself as a techie before. Keep in mind that there are a lot of people trying to get started in the field and the competition for entry-level positions may be high. The financial reality of these positions may be disappointing for you as well. There are crafts that can pay much higher in the beginning. They usually plateau much sooner but it is something you should be aware of. None of the jobs described below are “software engineer”.

I think it requires the highest amount of effort and there are plenty of online resources about becoming one already. Each of these jobs can be your way to get in, make some connections and learn how to think in tech. You can use those to start programming later on if you’re more about soft transitions. If you’re not, click away and start coding something! One last note before we begin. Use these job descriptions as a base for your search. Each of these can be done in various industries. Whether you are more into medicine, fashion, food, software products, or finance, there’s space for these everywhere. Find an industry you like and look for positions there first.

Job types
UX designer
I found it’s quite a foreign concept to people outside of tech. A UX (user experience) designer is someone who designs interfaces from a functional standpoint. Your goal in this position is to understand the user's journey and create a seamless experience. Decisions about the placement of objects in mobile and web apps should be research and psychology driven. As a UX designer, you should read industry press and follow data-driven trends. In some jobs, you will run workshops with clients and other stakeholders to understand the purpose behind the requirements and tailor the solution to the target audience.

On this career path, you can focus on the visual side of design as well. You can also smoothly branch out to product management, no-code application development, and similar areas.

UX applies to program and voice interfaces in the same way as it applies to web apps. You can try to specialize in a way in order to build a brand for you.

When it comes to tools used, check out Figma or Adobe XD.

A result of a UX designer’s work is usually a wireframe.

QA or Tester
Another interesting area of expertise is testing. Probably the best out of these if you want to transition into programming later on. That said, good testers are always sought after so it can be a long and fulfilling career.

Any piece of software that goes to users needs to be tested in some way. This includes clicking through the forms, subpages, and application features but also ensuring inner logic works properly. In the beginning, testers usually test manually and then go on to learn automated methods of testing if they want to advance their career in this direction. Automated tests are usually written in the same programming languages that the applications are written in, so testing is also a good start in programming if you want to get an entry-level job without at least a year-long learning journey.

QA engineers also participate in creating testing scenarios based on business requirements or product designs. You will be involved early on in the process to ensure other engineers take every nuance into account. You will have a chance to understand the product well, which is an interesting part of this position.

Scrum Master
Scrum Master or SM is a role that's related to an agile approach to software development relevant to the Scrum methodology. (Agility of scrum is debatable at times but it’s a whole other topic.) What you will notice working in multiple companies is that the software development process is pretty consistent. There is variability but certain roles and positions exist in most modern organizations. SM is one of them, responsible for the software development process.

SM organizes and facilitates meetings including daily synchronization stand-up meetings, planning sessions, work backlog refinements, reviews of work (sprint reviews), and team retrospectives focused on improving the team's work process.

It is one of the roles where certification can really help you. Holding official Scrum certificates may get you an interview for the role.

If you're into management, like working with people, and are interested in technology in general, this may be a role for you. Technical skills help in applying but you should be able to get a job and grow in the people management space without them.

Product Owner / Business Analyst
Another role related to the scrum methodology is Product Owner or PO.

I have written an article about being a Product Owner in the past:

A product owner is similar to a project manager. However, this role in software is a bit more nuanced. The idea that teams are self-managed is alive and often implemented pretty well. The product owner defines the work to be done and negotiates details with stakeholders.

One of the entry-level jobs on the product owner's path is that of a business analyst. As a business analyst, you work to understand the requirements for the product, define the functionalities and estimate the amount of work needed to implement them.

CSM (Customer Success Manager)
Customer Success Managers are working with clients of a software company in order to make sure they have what they need to use the product. They help customers resolve issues and in general are the first line of contact for customers. Another aim of CSMs is to build customer loyalty.

I don’t know an awful lot about the role, this article sums it all up nicely.

Technical Writer
Every software needs documentation manuals for customers or all sorts of other texts. As a technical writer, you will be writing those. If you are good at understanding complex concepts and you are good at explaining them in simple ways, this is something for you. If you also like writing, it's a perfect match. Some of your responsibilities would also include writing technical content for the marketing side of a business. Developers in general are not great writers, so people in this role are highly desirable.

Summary
I hope you enjoyed this quick run down and got inspired to try your luck in tech. Remember, the IT industry may not be a dream place, even though some people paint it that way. It can give you a very satisfactory path of growth but so can other areas of expertise. Make sure you make decisions that will have a long-term positive impact on your life. If some of those positions seem unfamiliar to you, don't be afraid to try and apply. Talk with recruiters and get an idea of what the roles are about. The Internet is full of content that will help you prepare for the job. Good luck!

Sports / Choosing Chelsea Over United Was 'best Decision Of My Life' - John Mikel Obi by teegrams(m): 1:19pm On Oct 04, 2022
Former Nigeria captain John Mikel Obi says picking Chelsea over Manchester United in a highly controversial transfer in 2006 was the "best decision" of his career. The midfielder, who retired last week at the age of 35, was the subject of a bitter dispute between the Red Devils and the Blues in 2005, before signing for the latter the following year.

His decision to move to London, having initially signed for the Manchester side from Norwegian club Lyn Oslo, ultimately proved rewarding. Mikel became one of the club's most decorated players, winning the Champions League, Europa League, two Premier Leagues, two League Cups, and four FA Cups in an 11-year spell that ended when he left Stamford Bridge in 2017.

"I don't regret any decision I made because I enjoyed everything I achieved at Chelsea - it's the best decision I have ever made in my life," Mikel told BBC Sport Africa. "I signed a pre-contract for Manchester United when I was 17. If you are a kid and you see Sir Alex Ferguson right in front of you with the contract, of course, you will be tempted." Having made plenty of previous running, Chelsea were shocked when he signed for their rivals. His agent John Shittu immediately traveled to Oslo to take the player to London, while Lyn swiftly declared him missing.

The news was all over Norwegian TV, with erroneous reports Mikel had been kidnapped. "I acted as a young kid and as soon as Chelsea heard the news, they came and got me out of Norway," recalled the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner. "That's when people started saying that I was kidnapped.

It wasn't a great moment for me then. I just wanted to play football because I was so young." The 35-year-old started his career as an attacking midfielder and was undoubtedly one of the best in that role at the youth level. He shot to the limelight as a traditional number 10 behind the strikers with Nigeria's Under-17 and Under-20 sides, helping the latter reach the final of the 2005 U20 World Cup.

After winning the Silver Ball at that tournament in the Netherlands, Mikel completed his protracted switch to Chelsea a year later. Blues Boss Jose Mourinho converted the Nigerian into a holding midfielder - a role he played throughout his stay at the West London club but one which much to the disdain of football fans at home. They watched Mikel thrive as an attacking midfielder, with many critical of his new role at Chelsea, but Mikel insists he had no issues with the switch to becoming a defensive player.

"Mourinho decided that he wanted me to play the defensive midfield position. At the end of the day, he is the coach and made the decision," Mikel recalled. "We discussed and he felt that because of the big midfield players he had in his squad at Chelsea that I should play the defensive midfield role. "[Claude] Makelele was just finishing his career at Chelsea, so Mourinho wanted me to take over from Makelele."

Mikel won 89 caps for Nigeria, played in two World Cups and helped the West Africans win the 2013 Nations Cup, before announcing his retirement from international football three years ago. Winning the biggest trophies for club and country is something that gives him satisfaction in a career that started in Jos and took him to Norway and China via England, Turkey and Kuwait. "I always wanted to win the Champions League because it is the best football tournament in the world apart from the World Cup," he added.

"To then win something with the national team was great. As a kid watching the likes of Jay-Jay Okocha and Kanu, I said I want to win something with the national team. "I am so happy to have managed to do that. I will rank both of them top as my most cherished trophies." Mikel was also one of Nigeria's three over-age players as the African side he was captaining won a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

That rewarding trip to South America eventually led to his Chelsea departure, whereupon he joined Chinese side Tianjin TEDA and then had a brief spell at Middlesbrough in 2019. His time at the Riverside Stadium earned him a recall to the Nigeria squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where he only managed two appearances as the Super Eagles finished third in Egypt.

See, adulthood is the biggest scam. If you have someone to hold your hand when you finish school and give you a tangible means of livelihood, you should be indebted to them.

Your points are valid and the problem is people still refuse to get how the system works
asuquocapital:
This is a very sensitive topic. To some it is a scam and to others it is not.

If you ask me I would say it is a scam. Here are the reasons why I said so.

1. Life has been rigged to make some people have more money than others.

2. Everything is centered around money. Without it you can't do much. You can't buy a house, the car you desire, travel, or get treated when sick.

3. Some people have this money in bulk, but use it to affect the decisions of others that don't have like them, thus making those people act anyhow they like.

There are more things to state, but I would be stopping here.

Events / Mum And Daughter Miraculously Rescued After Three Days In Jaguar-infested Jungle by teegrams(m): 12:58pm On Sep 20, 2022
A mum and her three-year-old daughter have been rescued after spending three days lost in the Brazilian wilderness.

Ludmila Jesus da Silva, 21, and her daughter Kyara went missing after leaving on a trip from their home in Ribeirão das Neves in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais on September 9.

While passing through the rural municipality of Morada Nova de Minas, the family’s vehicle broke down while they were following a route guided by their GPS.

Firefighters later said the car broke down due to dust getting into the engine.

While waiting for help to arrive, Ludmila and Kyara got out of the car and walked towards a forest next to the road to try to get a phone signal, leaving the woman’s partner, Valter Moreira Westermann, 23, with the car.
After the pair failed to return to the vehicle, a concerned Valter looked for Ludmila and his stepdaughter and then called the emergency services when he couldn’t find them.

A search operation was launched and the missing mother and child were found by a drone three days later on 12 September.

They were both treated at hospital and discharged the following day.

After being lost for three days, Ludmila told local media that she “had to drink water from a rock” to survive. She explained that she went to find a phone signal to call for help and continued walking for a while.

She then ran out of battery on her phone and the pair ended up lost in the wilderness. Ludmila also said they didn’t eat anything, and that Kyara didn’t speak throughout the ordeal.

The mother added: “If it wasn't for her I would have given up.”

Politics / Waste: LASG Warns Ladipo, Oyingbo Markets Of Impending Indefinite Closure by teegrams(m): 12:51am On Sep 16, 2022
Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) says it will shut down Ladipo and Oyingbo markets till further notice over reckless waste dumping, refusal to pay for waste services, and general poor waste management.

Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) LAWMA, said in a statement on Thursday in Lagos that the markets would be shut by Sept. 22.

Odumboni said that the unwholesome environmental practices by traders in the markets, despite repeated warnings, called for necessary and immediate sanctions.

“Our attention has been drawn to the deplorable state of the environment around Ladipo Market, Mushin and Oyingbo Market, resulting from reckless waste dumping by traders.

“Despite serving them abatement notices, they have continued the mindless environmental violation.

“We are left with no other choice than to evoke the necessary sanction of shutting down the markets.

“This is also meant to serve as a deterrent to other nonchalant markets,” Odumboni said.

He said that the authority had in recent times redoubled its efforts to ensure that business activities in all Lagos markets were carried out in a clean and safe environment, for the good of all.

“We have intensified our sanitation efforts by deploying trucks to clear black spots across the metropolis, especially business facilities.

“However, these efforts are being tainted by the activities of mischievous persons who would rather dump their waste indiscriminately on the roads, than pay for waste services,” Odumboni said
.

He urged traders in other markets to adhere strictly to environmental hygiene or risk indefinite closure of their markets.

Meanwhile, LAWMA said that a mobile court sitting in Oshodi had sentenced two environmental offenders for waste burning and dumping refuse in the drain during rainfall.

The Authority said that both offenders were apprehended at Ikeja and Lekki axis respectively.

It said the first offender was sentenced on a two-count charge: one year imprisonment or a ₦50,000 fine, and one month imprisonment, without the option of a fine.

The second offender was remanded in a correctional facility, pending bail conditions, according to LAWMA

The LAWMA boss reiterated the determination of the Authority to stamp out all forms of indiscriminate waste disposal in the metropolis.

He said that the enforcement team had been mandated to monitor the environment and arrest persons bent on derailing efforts of the Authority to make Lagos cleaner and livable.

Odumboni appealed to residents to imbibe the habit of effective waste management by bagging and containerizing their waste, for easy evacuation by assigned Private Sector Participants (PSP) operators.

He said that delay of evacuation by PSPs should be reported to the Authority using its toll-free lines, as an excuse, when caught, would not be entertained.

Politics / 2023: APC Campaign Council Dismisses Poll Giving Obi Lead by teegrams(m): 12:13am On Sep 16, 2022
The All-Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has described a recent poll that gave the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi the lead in next year’s poll as one that is ‘inconsistent with reality’.

The Matrix had reported that a poll commissioned by the Anap Foundation and conducted by NOI Polls Limited, had listed the election as a three-horse race. It said Obi is leading the race with 21 per cent of the votes. His votes give him an eight per cent lead over APC’s Tinubu and PDP’s Abubakar who each got 13 per cent of the votes to end up as joint second in the poll.

But the APC council in a statement hours after the result of the poll was released, said it is “unperturbed by these dubious and unreliable statistics because our research shows that NOI Polls have been off the mark at critical election periods in recent times.

“The attention of the APC Presidential Campaign Council has been drawn to a poll conducted by the NOI polls which made wild and incredible permutations on the presidential elections.

We are unperturbed by these dubious and unreliable statistics because our research shows that NOI Polls have been off the mark at critical election periods in recent times” the statement titled NOI Polls inconsistent with Nigerian Reality said.

Continuing, the statement said, “For example, preparatory to the March 2015 presidential elections, NOI published in October 2014 the results of a “Viability Poll” which used the concepts of Familiarity and Net Favourability Position to survey.

“In the results, NOI claimed that President Goodluck Jonathan has the best overall familiarity rating at 99% and a Net Favourability Probability of ±25.

“By contrast, NOI dismissed the then All Progressives Congress candidate, Muhammadu Buhari as a “borderline candidate” who needed” huge public relations” to shore up his performance. But when the Nigerian people went to the polls, who won? The APC candidate and now President, Muhammadu Buhari.”

The statement by the Director, Media, and Publicity of the council, Bayo Onanuga, accused the NOI of turning its “political bias in an election period to fraudulent statistics.

“The NOI has chosen the preferred candidate and has decided to use fake, dubious statistics to package him to the Nigerian voters,” Onanuga said in the statement.

“We know, as a matter of fact, the owners of NOI and where their political interest lies and wish to advise NOI to stop polluting the political system with irresponsible, unscientific, and biased polling so that we don’t expose the puppeteers pulling its strings
.

“Our party is putting every necessary machinery in motion to win the federal elections with a margin that will be too wide to contest. Our candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu recorded the highest votes of a senator across the country under the Social Democratic Party in July 1992. He will do it on a nationwide scale on February 25, 2023.”
