chloe7: Everyone on this forum I need your advice, I have a dear friend who has messed herself up in the US embassy totally, she attended her Abuja interview last week Monday, she said the agent she used she paid him 350k ,he filled married woman for her meanwhile she's not married, and some other Yama Yama information, after the interview again he now still called her and said he could arrange something for her and she will still go back to the embassy again with another booked appointment, maybe with a kid, I laughed at loud when I heard this gist, abeg make una tell me advice to join the one whey i don give her 350k for US visa? Wow! Are people that lame? When you can do it yourself. For 350k you can book a cheap hotel for a week and have something left over for a ticket on Qatar Airways. Last last I will assist you fill your form free of charge. People please stay away from agents. They only want your money and will ruin your record withe embassies. |

Guys...I've been interviewed successfully at both locations.. There is no difference. The only key thing is you being a suitable visitor to the US as well as your honesty in answering all questions.
Note that I said suitable visitor and not applicant. 2 Likes 1 Share |

The contributors who are seemed to be harsh on the OP are actually telling the truth. igmatt2002:
Sorry about your denial! The key to getting your non immigrant visa to United States of America is your Ds - 160 form. They already know if you are qualified for a visa even before your scheduled interview day through the Ds - 160 form you filled and submitted prior to your interview. The consular officers don't know who you are but the little information given on the Ds - 160 form. You might want to consult a professional to guide you through when you decide to reapply perhaps after 200 days. Goodluck! This is very correct. Also, the point about spending nearly all your annual salary on a three week trip is valid. Build up travel history, demonstrate greater ties to Nigeria.... |

Thanks for ur engaging response Bro. The thing is that my intention to attend the conference, though secondary, is real. I plan to do both: attend the conference and purchase the items which will be too bulky to airfreight; it will be shipped by sea. It's next year i'm looking at to travel.
Yes. I had travelled to india for surgery in 2010. I had also travelled to Ghana last year on a visit to the school i had wanted to do my Msc before i decided otherwise.
I'm just looking at an easy way to do the both in the state, without being denied the visa. A friend suggested that conference will be my best option, as my business has not been incorporated yet. He suggested that since i'm being Paid monthly by my publisher/marketer, i should use that as evidence of my source of income. However, the amount i'm paid monthly isn't specific: 140k,130k,120 and sometimes 100k depending on the generated sales.
Also. When i newly started my program, i had inquired from my lecturer on the easiest way to get appointed as a lecturer. He advised that i had to make above 4.5 in my Msc, in addition to writing and publishing researched academic papers on popular journals; as well as attending scholarly workshops/seminars/conferences. He said all these would make me stand out among the crowd when i apply for the job. He finally said attending foreign based seminars would be a gr8 added advantage. So since then, i have been building my CV; I have published 2 academic papers on scholarly journals and attended 2 conferences with one professional workshop. So you can see that attending the conference will add value to my CV towards improving my chances for a possible appointment..
Pls with all these, do i stand a chance? I cannot confirm if you stand a chance as I am not a Visa Officer however I can say that you would need to provide evidence of strong ties to Nigeria and intention to return to the country at the end of your visit to the US. You may also be required to show how a personal visit to the US for the conference will help you professionally. |

Oh no, I mean I should also put in for the visa too, and this was not part of the discussion I had with the CO. I gave him all my work schedule as stated in the DS-160 form but he should not expect me to say it the way it was listed in the form, may be that was where the prb is I can't say. What exactly is your work schedule like? |

Did you actually say you wanted to give it a trial? Sounds like you said something contradictory because he was shocked. Rather than say bla bla bla, can you tell us exactly what it was you said. Being more specific will help us have a better picture of what transpired. |

eurogee: @thegreengonner, i dont understand how you mean but the truth remains that ur right. I actually want go and purchase some highly lucrative items that are bound to fetch me some big bucks all to complement my source of income which is solely from books. So i just wanted to use the conference thing as a gateway to get to the states, make my purchases and return to Naija since i dont have an incorporated business name. That is my intention and i intend to return as soon as possible cuz my spouse and my son cant even stay a moment without me. And i love them so much. What is ur suggestion now Bro? I knew I was on to something there. If your main purpose is to purchase some items then tell them that at the embassy. They will then inquire whether it is possible to get order online and have them delivered to Nigeria and if so why do you have to travel to get them. The essence of a B1/B2 visa is so that you can travel to the US for both business and pleasure. I've just realised that you said you are an MSc student. You might be asked how your trip will affect your on going studies. Have you traveled outside Nigeria previously? 1 Like 1 Share |

eurogee: Hi able forumites, greetings. Pls i implore the pros here to respond to this questions. I'm an Msc student here in Naija. I have also authored two books that enable me to earn on average N120,000 monthly since 2012. My current savings is a little above N850,000. I'm married with a kid, and my wife is an undergraduate student. Pls how easy is it for me to get a conference visa to usa? Should I tell them my marketer is the one that'll sponsor the trip. Or should i tell them it's gonna be self-funded? Plsssssssss help me on this? Thanks I think you should disabuse your mind off the fact that conferences are the only ways to obtain US visas. Your question Should I tell them my marketer is the one that'll sponsor the trip. Or should i tell them it's gonna be self-funded? suggests that you do not really want to attend a conference and you just want to visit the US. There is nothing wrong with visiting the US on vacation. The important thing is you being honest about your reasons for wanting to visit the US and proving beyond doubt that you do not intend to emigrate and you will return at the end of your stay. You have already set yourself up nicely for this with your wife who you support still in school and a child as well as savings supplemented by passive income. What is your real purpose of travel? 1 Like |

Please anyone in the house, I would like you kindly enlighten me on this.
Do US embassy grant visa more on family visit or conference. Please I need your candid advice. Thanks in anticipation Visas are granted based on the applicant's ability to prove genuineness of the purpose of travel as well as show strong ties to Nigeria as evidenced by gainful employment, socio-economic and family ties and a clear indication that the would be traveller is not intending to emigrate under false pretences. In plain English, if you can't prove clearly that you are who you say you are, are going for what you say you are going for and can support yourself and return without being a burden to the society, you are most likely going to be refused a visa. |

Miemiecious: Good Morning, Pls i need some clarifications. Im in the process of filling my DS-160 form Im applying for USA visa to give birth. I have a friend in Arlington texas but the hospital i've contacted is in Houston Texas(4hrs drive apart). Who do you advise I use as my contact person & which location is best to put as my stay address. Should I use my friend's contact for both or it's better i book for a hotel reservation in houston? If I book a hotel, who will be my contact person? Expecting your response pls Thanks There is no way you will be staying in Arlington (Dallas Metro Area) and be using a hospital in Houston. It's too far. That's an immediate red flag for you as it is impracticable. I suggest you book a hotel or long stay apartment in Houston. |
