Investment / Become A Rice Producer Without Owning A Rice Milling Factory. by TheSparrow: 2:21pm On Nov 12, 2020
Due to popular demand, we have launched a contract rice processing services for clients. We are making it possible for anyone to venture into rice production business without owning a processing facility.

How It Works.

We will procure raw materials (poorly milled rice) on your behalf from the north and take it for further processing at our partner rice milling factories in Kaduna State.

At the factory, the rice will be destoned, polished, graded and color sorted. The end result will be perfectly milled, well polished and stone free rice, packaged in 50Kg bags.

The packaging will be in your own customized sacks. If you cannot afford to make your own sacks, we can use our own sacks for packaging your product.

Viability Of The Business.

As at the time of writing this , poorly milled rice sells for an average of thirty two thousand naira (N32,000) per bag (A bag weights between 100Kg – 105Kg).

Raw Material = N32,000

Processing Fee = N3,000

Sacks For Packaging = N700 (For two bags)

Service Fee = N1000

Total = N36,700

After further processing, you will get two 50Kg bags of well polished and stone free rice.

This implies that it will cost N18,350 to produce 1 bag of good quality rice.

If for example it cost N1,150 to transport 1 bag of rice to your location, your total cost will be N19,500 per bag.

As of today, good quality rice sells for between N23,000 to N27,000 in the market depending on your location.

Assuming you sell to resellers at the least cost of N22,000;

Gross Profit = Total Revenue – Total Cost = N22,000 – N19,500 = N2,500.

A person that is able to invest N390,000 to get 20 bags of rice, will be able to make a profit of N2,500 x 20 = N50,000. If he does three cycles in a month, that translates to a profit of N150,000 per month.

How To Get Started.

Simply send a message to us via:

Email: business@planbiz.com.ng

WhatsApp: 09022106607.

In your message, please state the following:

1. Number of bags you want to get (We can only do a minimum of 10 bags)

2. Whether you want to use our branded sacks, or your own customize sacks.

3. Location you want it delivered.

Thank you and wishing you all the best in your quests.

It will cost about N22,000,000 to set up a complete integrated rice Milling plant with a capacity of 20 ton per day.

You can however start on a smaller scale, 10T/D:

N4,500,000 will get you started with a parboiler, dryer, Miller/polisher and Destoner machine plus other working tools.

N6,000,000 will get you started with parboiler, dryer, Miller/polisher, Destoner, and grading machine plus other working tools.

N15,000,000 will get you started with parboiler, dryer, Miller/polisher, Destoner, grading machine and colour sorter machine plus elevators and other working tools.

If you don't have funds to set up a rice Milling plant, you can go into contract milling. The following steps will give you a guide on this concept.

1. Buy poorly milled rice = N32k per (110-120)Kg

2. Take to rice Millers for polishing, sorting, destoning, and bagging. = N3000 for the (110-120)Kg above.

After step 2 above, you get a minimum of two 50Kg bags of good quality rice, which you can sell for 22k each. (Total = 44k).

Expenses = 35k + 2k(transport and miscellaneous) = 37K.

Gross Profit = 44k - 37k = 7k.

Do this for 100 of the bags in step 1 above and you get a gross profit of N700k monthly.

As your business grows, you work towards setting up your own rice Milling factory.

Wishing you all the best.

Investment / Rice Milling Business (parboiled Rice Production) In Nigeria by TheSparrow: 2:38pm On Nov 03, 2020
For years, rice has been one of the most sought after staple foods in Nigeria. Throughout this period, the rate of consumption of rice in the country far exceeds that of production, necessitating the need for importation in the past.

With a population of over 180,000,000 people in Nigeria, the country became the leading importer of parboiled rice. At a point, over 50% of the rice consumed in the country was imported. The large gap in parboiled rice production in the country was made vivid after the government banned the importation of parboiled rice into the country. Prices of the product almost doubled due to the inability of the few producers in the country to meet the demand of consumers.

Nigerians currently consume over 5 million metric tons, which is equivalent to over 100 million 50Kg bags of rice annually. With the current population growth rate of Nigeria, the consumption of rice is estimated to reach about 35 million metric tons (700 million 50Kg bags) by the year 2050.

There is high demand for rice in Nigeria. With a population of over 180 million people and an estimated national population growth rate of 5.7% per annum ,an average economic growth rate of 3.5% per annum in the past five {5} years, Nigeria has a large and growing market for rice.

As it stands, the current producers of good quality rice in the country cannot even meet up to 50% of the current demand. This is the reason why the market is flooded with poorly produced and low quality rice.

New entrants into the rice milling industry that can produce good quality parboiled rice will have an evergreen market waiting to be sold to.

RICE MILLING

Milling is a crucial step in post-production of rice. The basic objective of a rice milling system is to remove the husk and the bran layers, and produce an edible, white rice kernel that is sufficiently milled and free of impurities like stones, sand, husks, etc.

Typically, when paddy rice comes into the mill, it is first precleaned, per-boiled and dried, and then goes through the following steps:

A. De-husking or De-hulling

Brown rice is produced by removing the husk from rough paddy rice. The husk is removed by friction as the paddy grains pass between two abrasive surfaces that move at different speeds.

After de-husking, the husk is removed by suction and transported to a storage dump outside the mill. Husk accounts for about 20% of the paddy weight and an efficient husker should remove 90% of the husk in a single pass.

B. Paddy Separation

The paddy separator separates unhusked paddy rice from brown rice. The amount of paddy present depends on the efficiency of the husker and should not be more than 10%. Paddy separators work by making use of the differences in specific gravity, buoyancy, and size between paddy and brown rice.

C. De-Stoning

The hulled/husked rice is passed through a destining machine where it removes all stones, sands and other impurities from the rice.

D. Whitening or polishing

White rice is produced by removing the bran layer and the germ from the paddy. The bran layer is removed from the kernel through either abrasive or friction polishers. The amount of bran removed is normally between 8 and 10% of the total paddy weight.

E. Grading

After polishing, white rice is separated into Head/full grain rice and broken rice, and “brewers” by an oscillating screen sifter. Head rice is normally classified as kernels that are 75-80% or more of a whole kernel.

F. Packaging

The Head/full grain rice and broken rice are packaged in 50Kg bags, while the husk and bran are all packaged in 100Kg bags.

Setting Up Cost

We prepared a well researched business plan that envisaged an integrated rice milling plant of 20 tons per day (20T/D) capacity.

You will need a building to set up your factory in. You will also need an industrial borehole as your water source. Cost of these depends on your location.

The machinery you need include:

Par-Boiler
Dryer
De-Husker/De-Huller
Paddy Separator
De-Stoner
Grader
Polisher
Colour Sorter
Automatic Bag Filling, Weighing and Sealing Machine.
You will also need vehicles for transporting your products to customers. It is very important to build a strong distribution channel for distributing your products to customers. The success of this business is deeply rooted in the quality of your product and your ability to reach and quickly sell to customers.

Profitability

Average profit realizable from processing 1 ton of paddy rice is N30,000. The processing plant referenced in this business plan has the capacity to process 2 ton of paddy per hour or an average of 20 tons per day. If the factory works for 20 days in a month and at 50% of the capacity, which gives 200 tons per month, the company can make a gross profit of 200 X N30,000 = N6,000,000 monthly.

Do this for 100 of the bags in step 1 above and you get a gross profit of N700k monthly.

Wishing you all the best.

Meanwhile.

Investment / Re: What Kind Of Company Can I Start With 30million Naira by TheSparrow: 8:23am On Oct 29, 2020
Rice milling business is a very viable and profitable business to invest in. Especially now that the government is very much interested in the rice farming and processing industry.

The ban on the importation of rice into Nigeria and the recent closure of the country’s borders by the Federal government has exposed the huge gap in rice production that exists in the country.

Prices of rice almost doubled as a result of high demand of the product plus the inability of the current producers to meet up with the growing demand.

As it stands, the current producers of good quality rice in the country cannot even meet up to 50% of the current demand. This is the reason why the market is flooded with poorly produced and low quality rice and those that produce good quality rice are doing shakara to buyers.

With less than 10 million naira, you can get started with small a rice milling plant that has the capacity to process 10 tons of rice per day.

Average profit per ton is N40,000. So if you can process 100 tons per month, you will be making a gross profit of 4 million naira monthly.

Kwara1stson:
how much on an average terms does it require to set up a rice milling plant

Depending on the capacity you are looking at getting started with.

Besides cost of factory rent and raw materials, you can get and install a set of machinery that can process a minimum of 10ton per day at about N7m.
