Health / What Is Random Acts Of Kindness by Thestickynote(m): 8:04pm On Aug 20, 2022
An unofficial holiday is celebrated every year on February 17 - Random Acts of Kindness Day.

This day encourages people to treat others kindly, especially those who don't know them, without any particular reason.

Random Acts of Kindness Day is a day of selfless kindness in which acts of kindness are performed for the welfare of those around us. Traditionally regarded as the opposite of selfishness, altruism is a virtue central to many religions.

Altruism focuses on doing good or helping others without expecting a reward. Even though altruistic behavior does not focus on rewards, doing good does have its benefits.

Random acts of kindness often reduce stress and boost self-esteem, resulting in improved physical and emotional health for those who perform them.

People will likely return the favor when you perform random acts of kindness for them. Request that they "pay it forward" instead of accepting their offer.

By paying it forward, you request that kindness be reciprocated by having it done for others instead. This small, simple gesture can inspire others to keep on giving!

As a child, you may have been taught by your parents to treat others as you would like to be treated. This is known as the Golden Rule.

It is sometimes referred to as the reciprocity ethic. It means acting cooperatively and in a way, that benefits everyone.

Sometimes the Golden Rule is stated negatively: don't treat others the way you wouldn't want to be treated.
