The battery could've been used for 2 years, or even if it's one year, the user may have abused it so much that capacity is heavily reduced. Also Mercury battery ain't top tier in lead acid battery league. These factors combined points to one thing, battery is now weak and recommended replaced. I'll suggest you return it and get a new battery. Consider a small lifepo4 battery, if budget will allow it. If the budget won't, go for the new lead acid battery. Cheers.

I posted here a few months back for info and advice on budget, I appreciate your replies.

However, I need your advice as I have upgraded my solar battery and panel but it's not doing what I want in terms of power supply.

I upgraded it this Monday to a second hand mercury 220 ah battery(one year used), 400W panel and 30A charge controller(which I find useless cos I don't understand how to really read it).

My major use of the power is for my laptop (90W) cos I work from home and I need to be able to cahrge it at least twice a day. No fridge or TV, just the laptop, DC fan, phone, and bulbs.

During the day it charges laptop fast and carries the fan without issues.

The problem is that the battery doesn't last after sun goes down. Charging phone doesn't seem to do anything to the battery, it's when I plug the fan or laptop after sun down, it will immediately start blinking indicating low battery. I feel like the battery has lost its strength or something else I don't know.

For today, I charged my laptop and phone with it around 12 pm, by past 2pm NEPA brought light, I turned it off, I didn't use it again till 9 pm and once I plugged the fan, it started indicating battery low again, so I removed the fan. But right now my laptop is fully charged but still plugged in but it's not blinking but once I plug the fan it starts indicating battery low... I didn't understand how that is working.

I need your expert advice because I intend to return it on Wednesday and get a 120 ah new gel battery(that's what I initially wanted to buy).

There is a guy that sells lithium battery bank with DC adaptors for laptops and rechargeable fans. I think you are a better off with that solution than a full inverter installation at the budget.

DC to DC is very very efficient.

It also comes with small DC bulbs on request that won't drain your battery so fast.

Lol. I want to pity men on this bride price issue but I don't😊. You men set the rules generations ago and for some wired reason are proud of it and still maintain it. I don't see why a woman should be bought in the name of bride price and tradition. It belittles the woman and objectifies her as a property to be paid for. My first daughter happens to live with her mum and i only get to see her Like once a week or less.

I really like your plan, especially saving for kids before they are even born is a beautiful plan. If a lot of africans plan ahead like this, it will save us from a lot of ugly situations we see around. She earns 80k and you want her to be left with 50k without getting anything extra from you. You keep 210k after your own contribution. Lets be fair, she will be contributing almost 38% of her income, while you contribute 30% of yours. The nepa bill and cable subs are monthly but rent is yearly, also electronics and some of the heavy foodstuffs can last for months. You didn't make mention of giving her extra money for support. To her, she is seeing a lot of responsibility being added to her in getting married to you instead of a help mate or support. How long can you go in a month with 50k as a single man now? Then compare to how long you think she can go with that amount as a married woman. She will also save from that money, give to family members and other miscellaneous expenses like that. its like she cant ask her husband for money in the marriage. Will you share house chores fifty fifty with her?. I really love your plan and I believe marriage should be fifty fifty like partnership. But we should also be considerate of each other's capacity in financial planning. A lot of people will say you should run from her, at least she was sincere enough to show how she felt about it and leave, some ladies will pretend to be okay with it, get married to you and start acting differently.
