Sports / Anambra Tops In S/east U-16 Athletics by Tkoy(m): 7:25pm On Apr 13, 2022
The 2nd edition of the South East Under-16 Zonal Athletics Championships which got underway at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) Mini Stadium on April 7th 2022, has ended with Anambara State, topping the final medals table, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports.

The Championship was organized by some retired elite Nigerian athletes including US-Based 4×400m Olympic Gold Medalist, Clement Chukwu, Decathlete Lee Okoroafor of the British Army, and German-based Innocent Iheme, is fashioned out to help reverse the dwindling fortunes of track and field in the South East, and Nigeria at large.

According to spokesperson of the group, Clement Chukwu, it is basically a ‘catch them young programme’; and also their own modest way of giving back to the society, and to the sport which brought them to prominence.

According to the quarter miler, it is a cause for worry, that in times past the bulk of athletes representing Nigeria at international meets were from the South East region, but due to neglect, the fortunes of athletics in recent years have dwindled to the extent that other regions in the country are now out-shining the South East.

The South East U-16 Zonal Athletics Championships is therefore designed to unearth young and raw talents who would be nurtured to become catalysts for the revival of the vibrant culture of track and field in the region and restore the glory days when the South East was the dominant athletics force in the country.

The athletics meet which was open to Under-16 boys and girls from the 5 South Eastern states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States, also saw Plateau, send a team in solidarity with the organisers.

Anambara State, with 13 medals, comprising 6 Gold, 7 Silver and 6 Bronze Medals topped the Overall Medals table, ahead of Team Imo which had 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze, while Plateau State with 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals, to finish in 3rd spot.

Abia State, with 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze was 4th, while Ebonyi with a Silver and 1 Bronze placed 5th, and Enugu State brought up the rare with no medal won.

Prize monies were awarded to winners, and scholarships to exceptional talents to enable the furtherance of their athletics career.

Crime / Insecurity: You Talk Too Much, Intersociety Tells Soludo by Tkoy(m): 12:26am On Apr 13, 2022
The Int’l Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law has identified unguarded utterances, generalizations and lack of credible intelligence as fundamental threats capable of undermining the formative stability of the Government of Prof Charles Soludo in Anambra State. ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports that the group stated this in a statement titled “UNGUARDED UTTERANCES, GENERALIZATIONS AND LACK OF CREDIBLE INTELLIGENCE THREATENING THE FORMATIVE STABILITY OF GOV SOLUDO’S GOVERNMENT” which they released on the 9th of April, 2022. They advised the new governor not to rush into IPOB matters to avoid plunging the State into “another Imo State”. According to the statement, solution to IPOB matters is not expected to be a short term one but likely going to require medium or long term solutions.

Speaking further, the group stated that the new governor’s approach of labeling or profiling a particular group as his own idea of tackling the security challenge in the state leaves much to be desired and suggestive of a leader who makes hasty conclusions without proper consultations, urging him to come down from his academic high horse and heed advice from experts on the way to go about insecurity and governance in Anambra, so as not to deplete the goodwill he enjoys from the people.

According to them, the issue of IPOB and insecurity in Anambra is not something a leader can wake up and begin to issue pronouncements without trying first to understudy the situation, “security issues are not handled through unguarded public utterances and ‘generalizations. It is also instructive to point out that the backbone of security and intelligence in the world lies on detection, thorough verification of the detected and their handling styles anchored on pre action muting on what has been detected and un-muting of same after what has been detected has been operated upon through intelligence and ICT powered operations. In Criminology, generalization, false labeling, criminalization and stigmatization of members of a general population or a particular group or associating them with acidic social deviances and violent crimes are the most undoing of any governing authority or policing organization. These are also totally forbidden in modern world of detective and investigative security and intelligence”.

In the Igbo System of ancient and oracular periods, “no matter how wise or knowledgeable an elder is, he must not be invited to preside over a sensitive matter he knows nothing about” and it is tantamount to “killing him” if he ventures into same. That is to say that he must seek to be fully briefed if he is to preside over it well and wisely. In the case of the ongoing formative stage of the Government of Charles Soludo, it is our finding that the Gov meant to govern the State well, but appeared to have chosen to start on riotous and loquacious path”.

Concluding, they counseled the new Government of Soludo to take a lengthy time to study the situation on ground with a view to having a firm grasp and understanding of the challenges and know the best possible way to nip it in the bud.

The statement was signed by; Emeka Umeagbalasi (Criminologist & Graduate of Security Studies), Chinwe Umeche Esquire, LLB, BL, Obianuju Joy Igboeli Esquire, LLB, BL, Chidimma Udegbunam Esquire, LLB, BL for INTERSOCIETY.

Science/Technology / Robotic Tech: Anglican Diocese Of Nnewi To Build Center For Robotics And Coding by Tkoy(m): 11:25am On Nov 01, 2021
The Diocese of Nnewi, Anglican Communion, will be the first to set up a Diocesan Centre for Coding and Robotics to ensure that the children in the diocese are not left out in the 21st century digital revolution.
The Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, who stated this during the flag-off of Coding and Robotic training workshop in partnership with Edufun Technik STEM Center at the Anglican Girls Secondary School Nnewi, said the programme would be extended to 16 major secondary schools in the Diocese.
He stated that the Nnewi Diocesan School Board will find a way to mainstream coding and robotics studies in its curriculum for it to be well entrenched in the system and maintained that it is only through such a way that children will grow with it and it will become part of them.
“We have started and nobody knows the extent we can go. Our intention is that these students will turn out fine". He noted.

Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi said he first came in contact with coding and robotics as an Archdeacon, so when the founder of Edufun Technik, Uchenna Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu brought the idea to him, it was easy for him to take the opportunity, adding that “when the Uchenna Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu the founder of Edufun Technik came to me, it was not a new thing, so we immediately hit the ground running to make it a reality for the students in the Diocese to benefit without their parents/guardians paying so much because it involves a lot of money, considering the materials, workshop books, the setting up of laboratory among others. The bishop further noted that this is a technology driven era, therefore the students should be prepared to meet up with the challenges of the time.

Lauding the Edufun Technik on their commitment for the programme to succeed, the Lord Bishop said: "I truly commend the Edufun Technik facilitators. I must confess they have been running at a loss, I am certain, but I told them that this is the sacrifice they will make to flag off this. Then with time, various schools within the state will key in, for it is said that the more the merrier. When others key in, they will then begin to recoup their investment".
He said both the diocese and the facilitators had made heavy investment in the programme, but their interest is to empower the average girl and boy in the Diocesan schools.
" I am happy at the impact being made on these girls. That is the joy. We will extend it to other schools like Carol Standard, Bishop Uzodike, Dame Irene Okwuosa, Living Spring, Kings Secondary, in all 16 secondary schools" of the Diocese, said the bishop.

The Archdeacon in charge of education in the Diocese, Ven. Henry Nzubechukwu Nduka (JP), said it was not easy as the financial involvement nearly scared them away, however considering the benefits the Diocese had to reconsider and make the investment, thanks to the partnership with Edufun Technik.
Ven. Nduka who is also the Supervisor, Special Duties, Anambra State in charge of Moral Instructions in Nnewi North, South, and Ekwusigo Local Government Areas said, if there is anything that makes the Bishop not to sleep, it is how to make Nnewi a technology hub in Africa.
He said coding and robotics have come to stay in Nnewi Diocese but decried the discouragement from some people over the initiative and growing interest.

Uchenna Onwuamegbu-Ugwu the Managing Director of Edufun Technik Center who is a multiple award winning educator on STEAM Education and the facilitator of the programme said Coding, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics education were simply to bring technology closer to the children, introduce them to the 21st century digital skills and prepare them for the future of work.
She emphasized that the policy makers need to pay urgent attention to what the future of work looks like and start overhauling the nation’s school curriculum.
She said: “Robotics education right now is what the children should be looking out for”. The future of work describes changes in how work will get done over the next decade, influenced by technological, generational, and social shifts, therefore, the right thing to do is to equip the younger generation with the right skills to make informed decision.
The world of internet and technology has come to stay, knowing this we have to think about Jobs that will be available by 2030.
She noted that the top five career choices in learning Robotics, Artificial Intelligence coding, Machine Learning and Coding are: Data Scientist, Big data Engineer, Machine Learning Engineers, Software Engineers and Automation Engineers.
At this point our students have the right to know what the future holds for them and start right now to be inspired and be provided with the relevant soft skills like: Digital literacy and computational thinking, Emotional and social intelligence, Creative and innovative mindset, with these skills they will be well equipped for STEAM careers opportunities.
She expressed their desire to bring Robotics Education to schools across Africa by helping them set up robotic and coding Labs.
She expressed her passion, commitment and capacity to work with the government, mission and private schools across Nigeria and any other parts of Africa to actualize her vision. She stressed the need for collaboration in conducting train the trainer’s capacity building programmes which will help them to set up coding and robotics centers in communities across Nigeria.
One of the beneficiaries Mmesoma, said “This will be an unforgettable experience in my life, participating in this Robotics workshop has opened my eyes to the possibilities of embracing technology. I want to become a farmer in the future, and I now understand how technology will help me, especially drone technology. I pray that this program will be integrated as part of the school subject”.

Business / Under45ceos: Anambra Set To Overtake Lagos As The Sme Capital Of Nigeria by Tkoy(m): 8:34am On Oct 18, 2021
ONITSHA --- Anambra will become the new SME hub in Nigeria if the state government provides an enabling environment and adopt policies that will be favorable to start ups in order to achieve this feat.

These were part of the submissions by various speakers who bared their minds at the just concluded UNDER45CEOS BUSINESS SUMMIT held on Saturday, 9th October, 2021, at the Presidential hall of Patterson Auditorium, All Saints cathedral, Onitsha.

The well attended business summit was powered by the Ultimate Destiny Uplifters Foundation (UDUF), a not for profit organization, which is committed to inspiring and helping young people attain their lives’ aspirations and fulfill their destinies by rising above mediocrity.

In his keynote, Professor Olusegun Sogbesan (the Director General, Onitsha Business School) while speaking on the theme, BUSINESS REPOSITIONING IN A NEW GLOBAL ECONOMY emphasized the need for startups to be innovative in their ventures and charged government at all levels to give adequate attention to SMEs based on the fact that they hold the key to the economic growth of any country. He further posited that the fluctuations that has become the bane of our currency today was as a result of the glaring neglect of this critical business sector and predicted that unless necessary measures were put in place to encourage Small and Medium enterprises, the economy will continue to nosedive and there is every tendency that the exchange rate of dollar to naira will continue to hit the roof.

Prof Segun charged young entrepreneurs to develop a global mindset, maintaining that though money was essential in any business venture, yet it should not take the place of bankable idea which is the real capital in business parlance, adding that any idea not acted upon will not see the light of the day. He advised entrepreneurs to be focused and honest and encouraged them to always skill up, seeking timely information in order to improve their businesses and explore ways they can interface with regulatory bodies and financial institutions to stay out of trouble and source for funds for their expansion.

In his welcome address, the founding president of UDUF, Dr. Chinedu Smart Ezuma stated that the UNDER45CEOS BUSINESS SUMMIT was packaged to bring together entrepreneurs at all levels including regulators and financial institutions to explore ways and identify practical models to take on challenges faced by these startups in this part of the country.

The summit was graced by entrepreneurs like Arinze Omenwa, CEO Naira Rice, Amara Okafor of Paint Divah, Destiny Wobuoma founder of DX photo studio and Mrs Ego Okonkwo of Victory model International School, who shared their success stories in business and in unison agreed that nothing can substitute for innovativeness in business and maintained that it has become a necessary ingredient which can take the entrepreneur far in life.

Politics / Anambra 2021: Why Ndi-anambra Are Eager For Maduka’s Emergence As Governor by Tkoy(m): 9:30am On Sep 07, 2021
By Ibe Shadrach

Since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) blew the whistle for the start of campaigns for the Anambra State governorship election, the candidate of the Accord Party—the number one party on the ballot—Doctor Godwin Maduka has received unprecedented supports and mass acceptance throughout the 21 local governments.

Everyone—the old and young, men and women, religious groups, and traditionalists—have expressed eagerness for the election of the world-class pain doctor and triple professor as governor. These outpourings of supports are because Maduka did not just show in words, but through convincing deeds and evidence that he can heal the pains of the people denied of good governance.

Ndi-Anambra, since the return of democracy, has continued to be in the stagnating pool of bad governance. Hence Maduka—a perfect match for the people’s desire in modern infrastructure development, quality education, and healthcare services that work, commerce and technology revolution, and youth and women empowerment, amongst others—come November 6 is the beginning of a new dawn for the state.

As the election nears, urban residents across the state are beckoning to Maduka to clear up the heaps of refuse that have made their neighbourhoods diseased-stricken and unsafe as well as the implementation of his urban renewal programme.

Also, Maduka’s growing supports base includes student groups, who want the immediate implementation of his policy on education for living, to enable them to contribute to the development of self and state, instead of just paper degrees incapable of putting food on their tables.

Hundreds of thousands of residents of rural areas, including traditional rulers and president generals, women and youths leaders, and all who have been hungering for good governance are rooting for the emergence of Maduka in November. And thousands have vowed to protect their votes for Maduka!

Maduka’s overwhelming supports are because of the clear evidence of what he has done in the past in terms of community development, support for the poor and downtrodden, and an unquantifiable degree of philanthropic activities through his ‘GODWIN MADUKA FOUNDATION’.

His quest to provide leadership with direction and a human face to Ndi-Anambra is well-articulated in his own words: “I am a son of the poor. I was raised in abject poverty. God showed me mercy and prepared me to come and lift people out of penury the way he lifted me. For this reason, I have come to serve the masses.”

Politics / Anambra 2021: Anambra Stands To Be Stronger With "Accord Party"- Nairalander by Tkoy(m): 8:24am On Sep 03, 2021
As Dr. Godwin maduka urge every Anambrarian to go and get their voters card and vote “Accord” come November 6th Gubernatorial election.

By Nwankwo Paschal

Dr. Godwin maduka who is a frontline Governorship candidate of “Accord” made this declaration on the occasion of new month celebration, As his candidacy gets more acceptance across the entire Local government of Anambra state. “You are aware that Anambra Governorship Election is slated to hold on November 6th 2021. However, many individuals have in one way or the other tried to draw attention to their preferred candidates without any evidence of excellent leadership or humanitarian services”.

Therefore, let me take you to the diary of an impeccable personality we all know as Dr. Godwin Maduka. No candidate from either APC, YPP, PDP or APGA can boast of any massive infrastructural development initiated in his community through personal efforts.Dr. Godwin Maduka is quite exceptional. He built a world-class hospital facility, thereby providing an avenue for job creation among others.

“It’s unfortunate that we have been deceived for many years by the people we gave mandate to represent our interests but they end up neglecting the yearnings of the masses”.

“Attachment to Political parties is never a solution to our current situation in Anambra State today but a proven personality like Dr. Godwin Maduka that understands the needs of humanity”.

“The time has come for us to pay attention to individuals or candidates instead of political parties”.

“ACCORD As a Political party is the number one party listed on the INEC ballot paper and has proven to be the best amongst all the political parties jostling to be in Agu awka”. In Accord, you can only be given the mandate to fly the party’s ticket based on what you have done for your community, which shows you have the capacity to replicate such development in other parts of the State.

In Anambra State today, none of the candidates of other Political parties can challenge Dr. Godwin Maduka when it comes to the love for ndi Anambra and his extraordinary nature in considering humanity first.

“Let’s make no mistakes. The best option for us in Anambra state today is ACCORD where evidence leads”, he added.

Politics / Anambra 2021: A Nairalander Describes Maduka’s Antecedents As Hope To Anambra by Tkoy(m): 1:48pm On Sep 01, 2021
By Ibe Shadrach

Anambra is currently witnessing a new era in its politics. History is about to be made in the state touted as the Light of the Nation come November 6, 2021.

In the past, electioneering years in Anambra are usually characterized by godfathers throwing up grossly unqualified candidates to pillage the state, with the elected governor a puppet. At one time, the ugly trend degenerated to the kidnap of a sitting governor by a godfather.

While the sham reigned, the state continued to slide down in all developmental indexes and to where Anambra hopes to be like Ebonyi State, which receives lower monthly allocations and a far below IGR, in development of modern infrastructure. The shame might even get worse in Q1 2022 when Ebonyi launches its ultramodern airport. These are incontestable hard facts that only a farsighted and leader with clear evidence can turn around.

According to reports, Anambra has the worst set of roads in Nigeria’s Southeast, after Imo State. The state capital, Awka, is also a glorified slum of mounting filths and anarchies, with the roads and water drainages nothing to write home about.

The situation is the same in other cities and deteriorated to the level of crime against humanity to people living in the rural areas.

This was why Doctor Godwin Maduka’s arrival in Anambra politics with irrefutable shreds of evidence as eminently qualified to restore the glory of the state brightened the faces of the citizens. His refusal to be distracted despite the machinations of the criminally and undemocratically minded godfathers and crooked politicians to abort his dreams of bringing good governance to the people has stirred up a political hurricane sweeping them away.

Since his public unveiling as the candidate of the Accord Party (the number one party on the ballot), the good news has been spreading like the harmattan wind. It has also triggered a gale of defections to the Accord Party by thousands of mainstream political leaders. Similarly, traditional leaders, religious groups and women leaders, students and youth groups, traders, and close to half a million voters across the 21 local governments have openly endorsed and declared their unalloyed supports for him.
Maduka is campaigning with the tagline—EVIDENCE 2021—because a masquerade cannot earn the respect of the outside audience without performing so well at home first. And that Anambra’s lost glory cannot be restored by accidental leaders with zero track records, whose hope is to turn the state into a business center of theirs and their godfathers.

He is a leader with obvious demonstrations of competencies and a genuine desire to lead for the people: not a proxy for godfathers! And there is no better way to express it than in Maduka’s words: “I have been doing the work of a governor. I will continue to do so.”

He knows why Anambra needs world-class roads and medical facilities and quality education for living. He is clear about what can be done to reduce youths’ restiveness and insecurity, and a well-articulated programme on women's empowerment for rounded development of the state.

Likewise, he is fanatical about attracting massive foreign direct investment and the development of medical and leisure tourisms and development of commerce and industry, including the revitalisation of the Onitsha Port and the upgrade of the airport at Umueri, as part of his plans for job and wealth creation and the holistic development of the state.

Politics / Anambra Guber: A Tale Of Victory As Ndi Anambra Drums Support For Maduka by Tkoy(m): 6:40pm On Aug 30, 2021
BY Franklin Chinemelu

Dr. Godwin Maduka's quest to transform Anambra State in line with his visionary mindset is a bold step to victory not just for him but for Ndi Anambra. His passion for a better Anambra is innate, and his firm grip of the grassroots within this short time of open campaign sends goose bumps down the spines of other candidates, even accross party lines.

Recently, the medical doyen defected to the
prestigious Accord Political Party in further pursuance of his ambition. Ever since, there has been a massive inflow of members (majority of whom have defected from other parties) into Accord Party because what they see in Dr. Godwin Maduka is remarkably different.

Even now at the height of campaigns, that other candidates are busy strategizing on how to manipulate voters and win the election by whatever means necessary, Dr. Godwin Maduka is still impacting the needy, the sick and attending to the well-being of Ndi Anambra. This is who he is and examples abound:

His visit to Somto Specialist hospital Nnewi few days ago, where he paid the huge hospital bill of one Mrs Nkechi Anekwe is a perfect example of what I stated above. He has visited Several hospitals already and more will be visited in coming weeks.

To Dr. Godwin Maduka the well-being of Ndi Anambra should be the number one priority of every politician. It's even more important than the November polls. His mission is clear now and the major stake holders of Anambra politics are now beginning to align with the political philosophy of the number one pain doctor in the world, haven taken time to observe his political style and a well detailed vision for Ndi Anambra. This indeed, is a sure sign for victory.

Churches, traditional institutions, trade unions, civil servants, market women etc are not left out. Every one seems to be rooting for Dr. Godwin Maduka because they are tired of fake promises, no one is ready to be swayed by irrational considerations anymore. Ndi Anambra believe so much in Dr. Godwin Maduka's prudence. For in the words of St. Thomas Aquinas " Prudence is necessary for correct judgement" . Victory for him and for Ndi Anambra, is certain, come November 6th 2021!

Crime / 2 Killed In Anambra Amidst IPOB Sit At Home Order by Tkoy(m): 1:13pm On Aug 09, 2021
At least two persons have been reportedly killed in Nnewi, Anambra State on Monday, August 9, 2021.
The unidentified young men were killed while residents were complying to Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)’s sit-at-home order.

According to eyewitnesses, at about 6:00am on Monday, gunshots were heard at Izuchukwu Junction.
