Street lights??by 11.30?bro,that's my area and I know why I pointed it out, cause it's adnormal.

that is the normal time NEPA brings light around that area. don't blame Government for this. It all started from the protesters who were being aggressive to a prison van. when they provoked them to shooting, they don't want to be called protesters again. [/quote]

what a bunch of crap! pray tell, why where security lights of the streets, off all through the period of this upheaval??Businesses on Ikot ekpene road ,were broken into by thugs, all with no presence of the police to curb them! from De Choice at Plaza ,to LG at the end of itam axis, premises were broken into, shops vandalized and no efforts made to stem the tide if destruction!
these were done by hooligans, young brats with no idea of what it takes to earn a worthy living. from our office that was vandalized and flat screens stolen, laptops ripped off, I got videos from the cctv and will not hesitate to share them with the indigenes of the state!
now, by 11.30pm,light is restored on 1 half of Ikot ekpene road, leaving the other end leading to plaza, in darkness!!
and worse still,NEPA has seen it fit to take their power at a time we need it most!
what kind of insensitive government is this and what brought about this breakdown in an otherwise ,peaceful protest?
rumours had it, it was caused by the shooting of two people by wardens, leading to this anarchy.
a lot needs to be done to remove this thieving mentality from our youth

Meanwhile Sell your Ethereum to us. [/quote
The first poster, has a valid point, which should be aired: for that length of time?for crying out loud, its going to cause upheaval in the time of resumption of thousands of workers and equally, pose lots of hardship.the importance of the bridge is obvious and whoever its contracted to,should be equal to the task of finishing well before the stated timeframe.
Its not as if a new bridge is to be constructed:if you are quoting for its maintenance, its believed you have the nettle for it:equipment shoud be mobilized and fast pace if work,be insured thru round the clock workings.Look at the Niger bridge, that's yet to be completed, decades after!we like the snail pace of working, just to make believe, a job is extremely difficult to carry out.
We have seen asphalt laying machines that cover a while 4-lane production:yet we don't have such in Nigeria!why won't a simple 2 lane road, take months to complete a stretch under 50km??!
We need to be more in tune with advanced climes, especially with the budgets for such projects, quoted in billions!

You and who go pay #20000 a month?!that's an outrageous thought.I am not against increasing the tariff, but only based on demand-supply:not just arbitrary and at their discrimination, without minding their consumers.
A whole lot of houses are saddled with estimated billings and yet, they don't get given, power they paid for.what has the government done,to ease their troubled minds?why go for increase, when you have not satisfied the initially agreed conditions of contract they entered in,when they signed on?this is gross irresponsibility and should not be tolerated, except we want to encourage ineptness in government (which we are doing, anyways).

If this is a government sponsored post, I do have appreciated them also showing us the state of the infrastructure, inside.putting up pictures, without a show of equipment inside,is not encouraging. Building a house is easy;its the finishing that is cash crunchingly,intense-the electrical, plumbing, fittings, does dig a hole in the finance. Look at the medical isolation center in uruen,we never could verify if its stocked!
By the way,the coconut seedlings will need 4-6 years before harvesting can start!so what happens until then?the edifice will likely depreciate because trust me we lack maintenance culture here.
If the project is unlike those earlier touted by the administration, which are a source still of unverified status, we then laud the Udom administration and pray he makes good on these industries.

I looked through the comments attached to this article and I shudder at the thoughtlessness of our people!over ineptness, some are still backing this craze display of irresponsibility?? For ages,we have been ear stormed with the incoming sea port actualization and till date, nothing is on ground but pictures of documents being signed,in abuja?when do we begin to hold the government to accountability over its words?until we realize that we are supposed to be watchdogs over our funds, corruption will continue to thrive.round pegs will be put into square holes!words will be used to complete projects that ought to have been long finished before the drums of celebration, can be rolled out.
This is one area that can launch Akwa ibom onto a home run,and yet there is no urgency to actualize this project but some are lauding this slow approach to meeting the needs of the state.
Stop attacking yourselves here and direct your attentions on a government, playing politics with the future of our children!

est bet is to call a plumber to check if the soak away and waste are connected. You need to disconnect it, if connected. And going by your experience I am 100% sure they're connected. But professionally the two shouldn't be connected, as the waste is nothing but a breeding colony for mosquitoes, roaches and insects. The two should be runned with separate pipes.vThat's the only way to stop this unwanted visitors[/i].
Now this part,is a No no:the design of a septic tank,is in this format.the sludge part,is the 1st compartment waste enters into and is the part that is usually soaked away, after its level cones up.the other compartment is meant to take effluent(the waste water),once the soak away, fulls up to a point.these waters, sink in to the ground, thereby prolonging the carrying capacity.if you block this, you will spend more, evacuating your tanks, frequently at a high cost!no plumber worth his trade, will agree to "block' the two

IBOM DEEP SEAPORT: A Maritime Gateway To West And Central African Region

By Mike Etuk

The idea of Ibom Deep Seaport, IDSP, a major component of Ibom Industrial City, was conceived to be the country’s and state’s economic empowerment plan, designed to play a catalytic role in economic development as well as raise the business and revenue profile of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.

The Deep Seaport is designed to occupy 2,565 hectares of land with additional 1.565 hectares for future expansion. IDSP, with the investment capacity of $4.2 billion, will on completion serve Sao Tome Joint Development, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Angola, Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Niger and Chad, making it to offer a multiple modal connectivity with unparalleled access to coastal railway lines, the Victor Attah International Airport and extensive national road network.

As a trans-shipment port for the West and Central African region, the Seaport which is expected to handle container break-bulk, dry-bulk and liquid cargo will stimulate business activities and lead to a gargantuan leap in trans-national trade activities, as it would handle large vessels that can load over 13,000 containers in one voyage.

The project, which is to be owned by the Federal Government through Nigeria Ports Authority, NPA, with Akwa Ibom State government and private investors through the PPP arrangement, has key features.

The features include deep water access (18m in the channel) with the capacity to accommodate large vessels; 5,129 radars for port development; proximity to major shipping routes, as well as a combined deep seaport and free trade zone development in Akwa Ibom State. Others are short distance to destination markets, to reduce cost and maximise benefits; as well as a large gateway market size to attract direct vessel service and sizeable trans-shipment cargo for feeder shipping network connection.

These features make the IDSP unique and strategic to the maritime economy and international trade portfolio of the country. It has been a key project of Akwa Ibom State and indeed Nigeria given its critical role in launching the state and the country into a robust regime of international trade and other international business transactions.

The idea

Although the idea of Ibom Deep Seaport project was mooted by the previous administrations in the state, the real commitment and political will to translate the dream into a realistic project commenced following the assumption of office of the present administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel, when he set up a technical committee on the implementation of the Ibom Deep Seaport project.

Although there were a number of political, administrative and technical issues to be addressed in the course of the project actualisation, with the strong support of the governor, the committee continued in its commitment to deliver on its mandate.

In May 2015, IDSP received Federal Government approval under the Public-Private Partnership, PPP, model. In further demonstration of its commitment, the state government contracted the Global Maritime and Ports Services, GMAPS, to provide transaction advising services in December 2015, and the responsibility of completing the master-plan producing a full business case for the project.

With all the administrative, policy and technical issues addressed, work on the first phase of the IDSP is about to commence. Giving a lowdown of the progress made to actualised the project, the state governor, Udom Emmanuel, represented by Secretary to the State Government during a meeting of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, ICRC, NPA and the Federal Ministry of Transport, said the Ibom Deep Seaport is poised to bring a smart world port landing capacity to the doorsteps of Akwa Ibom State and serve the cargo handling of the West and Central African countries as well as states of the South-East region of Nigeria.

Already, two world-renowned companies with outstanding pedigree in the maritime industry have successfully bidded to handle the two major components of the Ibom Deep Seaport projects. While the consortium of Bollore’ Ports of China is to handle the operation of all container activities, Power China is expected to carry out necessary works for developing the port infrastructure.

According to Mrs. Mfon Usoro, Chairperson of the Technical Committee on the Actualisation of Ibom Seaport, the government is targeting shipping companies and terminal operators as co-developers and investors, who will guarantee vessels and cargo when the port becomes operational.

It is expected that given its locational advantage, and its technical contents, the Ibom Deep Seaport will serve a better purpose in terms of promoting maritime business, international trade and interconnectivity. With specialised terminals to handle ports and big-sized vessels, in addition to other ancillary activities, the Deep Seaport will generate multiplier effects, new business frontiers, create the necessary middle class and create more than 10,000 job opportunities for the people of Akwa Ibom at the construction stage.

This number will increase when the port is in operation considering that there will be direct and indirect jobs created. Moreover, it will certainly help in solving the perennial problem of port congestion in Nigeria. As the host state of this gargantuan economic enabler, Akwa Ibom will step up in its revenue profile, business opportunities, and become a major player in the competitive national and global economy.

Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration has taken the bull by the horn in demonstrating rare commitment and tenancy in ensuring that the dream project comes to reality. It is, therefore, expedient that Akwa Ibom people and Nigerians rise to the challenge of ensuring the actualisation of a project that will launch the country into a world of robust maritime business.

Mike Etuk, a public affairs analyst, wrote from Uyo.
A public affairs analyst, your write up isn't complete.I was looking out for pictures of the site at least,to actually show you didn't just unearth the story from archive, as is the usual practice. You didntbeven give the location of the project, nor if its actually started.
Its been in the news for too long and from all indication, its another audio project,a white elephant, designed to siphon money.
Is it at ibaka or at uruan?has the ground breaking, been flagged?are contractors on site? MOU's,signed?even without, how prepared is the state at harnessing business boom from it,with no good federal roads leading to the state,to ensure containers are transported to other states?Umuahia road, bad, aba road bad, calabar road, worse.east west, non existing.
