Politics / Why Udom Must Avoid Failing At The Supreme Court. by Tonway(m): 8:35pm On Dec 22, 2015
In a research and opinion gathering that took us to Akwa Ibom State after the verdict of the appeal court that cancelled and order a re-run of election in the 31 local government areas of the state, here is our findings and the opinion of the majority of the people of Akwa Ibom State.

As Marco Materazi said to JOSE mourinho when he was living Inter Milan, after winning the Champions league,
“You ass-hole, you are going to make us end up with Benitez”, so also the majority of the Akwa Ibom people seem to be saying to Deacon Udom Emmanuel, “You stingy un-discerning mule , you are going to make us end up with Umana Umana”

“If we want change, the change has to be total and moral. Not by some ambitious carpet-crossers, who have been part and parcel of the rot, and now turning around to capitalize on the same problem they fostered on us”.--- Mr. Duke Effiok, a respondent from Nsit-Ubium local government area, same local government where Umana Umana comes from.

from the novel, "The Haram in The Boko:The Story of Terror And The Nigerian Army.

The other day on my street, I think I overheard someone said that-
“When Sir, Fredrick Lord Lugard, the British Colonial Administrator that amalgamated the Northern and Southern Protectorate that is known today as Nigeria, Africa’s biggest economy and the most populous black nation on planet earth in 1914 for administrative convenience, he had envisaged and anticipated that the union shouldn’t last beyond a hundred years”

(Straight talk)

IT IS A TABOO FOR ANYONE TO CRY FOR DASUKI, DOKPESI AND THE PDP.

The amount of money shared, stolen, misappropriated and the extent of abuse of office said to have been perpetrated by ministers and officials of previous governments as reported in the media, some still answering and making annoying and mind blowing revelations is mind blowing itself. And one can only call for the show to begin with President GMB, as we all, if with conscience, supposed to be calling for the macabre dance to begin proper. I believe Bode George, Gen Haliru, Yuguda, their children and Olisa Metu would think otherwise.

What we are talking about here are serious stuffs you won’t find on Nairaland’s front page, neither would you find anyone following such thread. They would rather draw a long thread, gyrate and evaporate on trivial, superficial and frivolous issues about someone seeing someone’s mama’s pant, or shamefully coming to the defence of one of their ethnic person who shamefully stole what belongs to everyone at the expense of the pains we are all suffering, including the thieves and the victims. Little wonder the minister of sport, one Dalong guy I have not fully come to know his name posited that “Nigerian youths are corrupt”, and one of the characters that has contributed so much to the rot we are experiencing, IBB, like OBJ thinks “Nigerian youth are not ready for leadership position”. How true can they be!

Na thunder go fire any person who cries for Bode George, as he prepares to return to prison for the second time, even if it is £15,000, and not £100,000 that he collected, and everyone that has stolen from everybody’s money and fosters the pain we are all currently experiencing, including Tinubu, Oshomhole, and D’banj’. Don’t cry for me.

Nairaland / General / What Makes A Thread Make Front Page On Nairaland? by Tonway(m): 8:03pm On Dec 08, 2015
This is one bother that has been bothering me lately as I spend precious energy and time to research and put together educative, informative, and entertaining thread on Nairaland only for it to end up only on my page.

Initially I thought front page is determine by the numbers of people that view one's thread, but rested that though after I saw threads with lesser views making front page. I later settled with the fact that front page is determine by how many posts/response a thread attract. That too I rested when I saw Some useless threads with less posts make front page. WHAT QUALIFIES A THREAD TO MAKE FRONT PAGE?

The problem with us as a country as reflected here on Nairaland is that we don't read, we're not interested in engaging our minds in serious issues that might liberate us, little wonder our selfish politicians and elites have our heads all under their asses, while we remain passive, it is even funny to see most only respond to useless threads, but for serious issues that needs articulation, some idiots would only regurgitate the bigotry and ancient wisdom that was handed over by their great grandparents which has no place in today's dynamic and advancing world. Welcome to friends of Nigeria @friendsofnija..com.ng

I am one of the fortunate growing ups of our time to came in contact and appreciate the media influence of Dr Reuben Abati, double high Chief, Dr Raymond Dokpesi, Alhaji ‘Lair’, sorry Lai Mohammed and others. But for Sambo and others, everybody knows Rambo in this Zoo Republic, (sorry again), Federal Republic of Nigeria. What I am trying to say is that, everybody knows everybody.

The Abatis’ of this world, the Dokpesis, the Shina Rambos, and all the nobbles in the noble profession that beget on them the responsibility of influencing and reconditioning an entire being and nation owes us an apology and explanation on what trespassed behind those cottons of power at the rock, that suddenly arrest and turns a saints to a monster. All of them that were part and parcel of previous governments that are responsible in where we found ourselves, most especially those in the media, religious and traditional leaders, including Dangote and Dino Maleye have to tell us the level of their culpability in the present calamitous state we found ourselves.. Politics / Re: "Blame Northern-Nigeria Muslim Elites For Boko Haram" - Bishop Matthew Kukah by Tonway(m): 7:42am On Nov 30, 2015
TolstoyFan:
The Roman-Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah has said Northern Nigeria elites indirectly created terrorism as they used religion to deceive poor Muslims. Kukah made this disclosure in his keynote address at a conference organised by the Islamic Welfare Foundation at the Fountain University, Osogbo.

Speaking on the theme, ‘The Muslim agenda for Nigeria: Challenges of development and good governance’, Kukah said: “A hypocritical elite continues to believe that it can claim the benefits of democracy but use it only to consolidate its hold on power. This is what has laid the foundation for what is now Boko Haram. We must locate the current crisis of Boko Haram within the context of the inability of the northern Muslim elite to live by their own dubious creed of being Muslims. They preached Sharia Law but only for the poor. They preach a religion that encourages education, yet their own people are held in the bondage of ignorance.

“They came to power on the basis of a democratic society but they turned around and declared Sharia to generate a false consciousness among the poor that they want a theocracy. They did not wish to live by the same standards, so they decided to live their own Islam in the capitals of the world away from the prying eyes of their own people. Boko Haram began as a revolt against this mendacity, subterfuge and hypocrisy.

“Now, I hear Muslims in northern Nigeria hiding under the cover of the facts by saying: ‘These Boko Haram people are not Muslims. They do not represent us’. Well, first, they are your own children. You must take responsibility for what has made them what they are today and to the rest of society. They claim they have been inspired by the Quran and no other holy book. They say they want to build an Islamic state. So, they are Muslims. After all, from the debates of the Constituent Assemblies of 1979, 1988, and 1995 and beyond, did their fathers and grandfathers not stage walkouts, demanding Sharia Law? Was it not to tame them that President Ibrahim Babangida declared what he called ‘no-go areas’ in the debates about our constitution?

“The promise to institute Sharia has become the most potent tool for political mobilisation and organisation. Till date, the tactics may have changed, but the essence has not. Rather than face the tough questions of how and why over 15 million children in the northern states are on the streets; how and why the northern states are falling behind on almost every index of development, the northern Muslim elite continues to live for just the moment, with no plans for tomorrow.

“Should we pretend that a society that allows the forced marriages of its young daughters could frown on the idea of a group kidnapping and forcing young girls into sexual slavery? Islam must have an honest look at the mirror and have an internal discussion. Although we all seem to pretend that Boko Haram has caught us unawares, the worst thing is that we continue to hide our heads in the sands of self-deception by further denying the roots of this ugly side of our humanity.

“That Boko Haram, its disciples and victims are localised to northern Nigeria, should be instructive. What this calls for is an honest review of the root causes. We need to ask what it is about the past or the present that has led us to this ugly and deadly path. It is my considered view that northern Islam has to confront the realities of taking its religion into the modern world of democracy seriously. Muslims in northern Nigeria cannot accept democracy and reject the inclusive nature of its philosophy as it is the case today.”

Former Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio says total dependence on God and nothing else, remains the sole secret that kept him and his family in the government house for Eight years, and brought about tremendous impact on the course of development that marveled humanity.

Welcome to your Royalty Train @http://royaltytrain..com.ng/2015/11/now-that-putin-has-come-to-party.html?m=1

The annoyance of many across the world against Russia had been that she’s the bad guy that opposes the good which symbolises America and her allies. And whether it had been a mere propaganda against Russia or fact, most of us that used to read espionage and detective novels, like the famous James Hardly Chase, Nick Carter and the rest have without logic attributed same. And in our growing up years, we have witnessed the events that played out in Georgia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, most recently Ukraine, Iran, and Syria respectively, and have concluded that Russia are always poised to play the Devil’s advocate.

But with the most recent bombing of France, the escalating activities of Islamic States, (ISIS) and Russia/Putin’s resolution to assume the responsibility of sending terrorists, most especially of the ISIS extraction to their maker to either forgive them or grant them eternity with their illusive promised virgins, one never seized to asked if this is the end of the proto-world war between America and Russia. But whether Russia’s coming to the party would mark the beginning of the elusive peace in the world that remained to be seen.

Education / Akwapoly’s Lecturers, Leading The Pack In Accademic Corruption. by Tonway(m): 7:11pm On Nov 25, 2015
Welcome to friends of Nigeria @http://friendsofnija..com.ng/?m=1

Despite effort of the Rector of Akwa Ibom State polytechnic, Dr. Israel Affiah to sanitised and achieved academic excellence for the institution, some greedy Lecturers of the school seem to be head bend on sabotaging his sincere effort with their greed.
Findings among students and some staff of the institution by your Friendsofnaija platform revealed that lecturers are of the habit of imposing as mandatory that newly admitted student of the school pay a whopping sum of eight to ten thousand (N8, 000 to N10, 000) additional nairas in their respective departments for some irrelevant books against the rule of the school.
Although the Rector, who has so far transformed and improved on the reputation and image of the higher institution that used to be famous for her notoriety in cultism, disruption of academic calendars, un-seriousness among her student and lecturers, that they used to refer to her as a glorify secondary school, is not even aware of the high handedness and gradual soiling and disruption of all that he had laboured for as his tenure wind up.
Our findings revealed that, to encourage lecturers, the Rector had set up a community, where lecturers can submit their works for vetting and determination of prices, the lecturers wouldn’t have any of such, as they now forced students, especially the jambites to pay that much in their respective departments in deviance to the community and the objective of the school not to over taxed parents and guardians. Other findings that we would not want to bring up until we have a chart with the Rector and other relevant bodies of the school are mind blowing, but for the social responsibility demand of the profession, we would do that after cross checking with affected parties.

Politics / Re: EFCC Arrests Abuja Civil Servant Who Paid N60m Tithe To Redeemed Church (2014) by Tonway(m): 12:02pm On Nov 11, 2015
dayo23:
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a popular Abuja socialite who is also a top official of the Nigerian Prisons Service, Dr (Mrs) Imaobong Akon Esu-Nte. The suspect, a Grade Level 14 Officer with the Federal Ministry of Finance seconded to the Nigerian Prison Service as Head, Capital Accounts, was picked up Tuesday May 6 by operatives of the anti graft agency. And for several hours, she was grilled by investigators over allegations bordering on corruption, abuse of office and money laundering.

EFCC officials said they received tip-off regarding the suspect’s lifestyle which was inconsistent with her position as a public servant on a monthly salary of N121, 460 ($751).

The suspect owns several exotic cars and properties scattered over the (Federal Capital Territory) Abuja. Among her properties is a palatial mansion, a duplex with two-bedroom Boys Quarters at Sun City Estate, Abuja and another duplex at Karu Extension, Abuja, which is nearing completion.

Three luxury automobiles were recovered from her at the time of arrest. They include a Mercedes Benz ML 350 4matic wagon, Mercedes Benz GL 500 SUV and a Toyota Sienna.

EFCC sources said Imaobong’s arrest was triggered by intelligence report on suspicious inflow of huge funds into her account with a new generation bank.

Close scrutiny of the account by investigators literally opened a can of worms, as it came to light that the suspect is the promoter and signatory to the accounts of three companies: Abasiaga Global Resources Limited, Abasiono Nigeria Limited and Ememima Global Ventures Limited, the companies were established after she was posted to the Nigerian Prison Service and all the directors are her children (Dr. Etsu Daniel, Eme Faith and Uwen David).

She is also the owner of two other companies- Darima Properties and ID Petroleum

Sources revealed that several cash and cheque deposit into the accounts of these companies and the personal account of Imaobong in Zenith and Access bank could not be justified. The accounts of her companies are said to have recorded an inflow of not less than N200million between 2009 and now.

Another startling discovery by investigators for which the suspect has failed to provide an explanation, is the nearly N60million she paid in various branches into the account of Redeem Christian Church of God, a prominent pentecostal church in Karu, a suburb of Abuja. ‘There are instances in which she paid N5m, N7m and N6m into the church’s account. Obviously this cannot be tithe an EFCC investigator told SaharaReporters.

She must explain the source of the funds and the purpose for which the payments were made”, one of the investigators who pleaded not to be named because he was not authorized to speak on the matter said.

Equally shocking, is the discovery of five names that consistently (on monthly basis) paid money into the private accounts of Imaobong at Zenith and Access bank since she arrived at the Nigerian Prisons Service as Head, Capital Accounts.

At press time, the socialite was still facing interrogators, unable to explain her sudden wealth. Sources informed SaharaReporters that she told her interrogators that she made her money doing contracts, contrary to provisions of the public service rule that forbids a serving officer to establish companies or prospect for contracts.

Spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren while confirming the arrest warned public officers engaged in corrupt practices to desist or risk the wrath of the law. He said the agency was determined to ensure that officers who abuse their positions for self enrichment are brought to book.

He equally pleaded with the members of the public to stop celebrating corruption by asking questions when it is obvious that the lifestyle of certain persons can not be supported by their known sources of income.

1. You send a message, and they billed and deducted your money, only for them to come back later and said, “Message sending fail” without refunding you.

2. You make a certain seconds or minutes of call which they were supposed to bill you accordingly as the rate suggest, only for them to bill you more.

3. They send a pop up they would say “Enter for the chance to win blab la bla bla (happy day promo or whatever) (for free), only for them to turn round and keep deducting a hundred, two or more as long as you have money in your phone daily.

4. They send you an sms informing you of a (free) ring back tone, only for them to turn around and start deducting N50 monthly from your airtime.
5. They send a cheap question to you to answer and win something, only to answer the question endlessly without winning anything and your money deducted at every question you answered.

6. ‘Lie lie’ ‘Who want to be a millionaire’ game show, which you might play endlessly before even coming on their useless hot seat, or never coming for eternity.

7. You recharge your phone and went to sleep, only to wake up the next day and want to make a call and you are told that “you do not have the sufficient balance to make that call”

8. You tried calling a customer service and you could end up remaining on line till your battery runs out, without getting through to a customer service agent to complain.

9. You send sms and you are billed, and the message did not reach the party you wanted to send message to.

10. That MTN, like Etisalat, Airtell and Glo do not have one building in Nigeria, but are only renting.
Only one, and I might be helping them to pay.

Take one of these old people’s phones and see all manners of deductions they experience and have to leave with on daily bases all in the name of owing a phone. And they don’t even know, even if they know they don’t know what to do about it.

Welcome to friends of Nigeria @http://friendsofnija..com.ng/?m=1

Razaq is an Ogbomosho Man, from Oyo, South West states of Nigeria, he is one of the biggest and most established mechanics on Ikot-Udoro Street, oFf Ikot Ekpene Road in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, Nigeria.
The evidence that Rasaq is the most establish guy in his trade is the evidence of many apprentices, among whom are some Hausas, Yorubas, Igbos and the Indigenous people of Akwa Ibom state respectively, all learning the trade under him. In fact, the name Rasaq is popular among the food vendors, drivers, and spear parts dealers and everyone from the beginning of the street to the end.
On one lazy stroll during my visit recently to the state, I was fascinated and impressed by the presence of none indigenes that, like Lagos, Onisha, Kano and Port-Harcourt, were beginning to find abbot in Akwa Ibom state, a phenomenon that used to be very scarce in time past. So I stroke a conversation with Rasaq, and the following conversation ensued between us.
“Oga, se una dey enjoy this state sha?” I demanded.
“We thank God” Rasaq replied.
“Wetin make una leave Lagos wen things dey happen big time come this place?” I enquired further.
“Who tell you say tins no dey hapin for this place like Lagos and all thos place wey you menson?” Rasaq returned, with his Yoruba’s (son for tion’s) intonation.
“I mean say, the kind money wey person fit make for Lagos, compare to this place!” I cleared him further.
“If no bi say, Apabio spoil business for us since im enter as gomina, the kind money wey I make here for Victor Attah time, even people wey dey work for bank no fit makam.” The mechanic added, affirming with a nod of his head.
“Wetin you talk, I no understand! You mean say Akpabio been dey distop una business, how?”
“Egbagbe oniranu, since im enter na so im come repair all the road, sotey people car no dey spoil again” Rasaq pointed out.
Over to you, if another person own no spoil, another person own nogo repair. Let’s hope Udom would return the smile on these citizens faces again!
