This may not be the best time for me to write on this because of misinterpretations, but I can no longer resist the push. "Husband Scarcity" has become one of the challenges faced by many young girls today. If you go to prayer houses, majority of the intentions are prayer for a life partner. And this calls for concern. Casting our minds back to the time of our mothers and grandmothers, was there really much of a "Husband Scarcity" problem? Or, maybe there were more men than women then, or there was an adequate corresponding numbers of both genders. I don't think so. Maybe then, the women had values and were prepared to build a home and not park into a built home. Then, once a young man comes of age and can at least feed himself and his wife, he goes out in search of a wife and the woman really appreciates him and helps him to build a future. What am I really trying to say? We created what we now see as "Husband Scarcity" for ourselves. Today, the reverse is the case. Ask an average girl to define her dream husband; you get things like "he has to be tall, handsome, fair, and rich, own a house at least, and be presentable" and then she adds "God fearing" in order not to sound so worldly. Then, check the number of girls around you and the number of men that meet that standard, and you will see the problem. You hear girls say, "I cannot suffer in my father's house and then go and start suffering with a man." What a wonderful dream! What if from the beginning, you have everything you want and there is no suffering, and later in the marriage, the table turns around, then comes suffering? Will you run away? No one prays for suffering, but it is good to start small and end big, than start big and end small. The problem is that the description majority of girls give of their ideal man is virtually the same. When 50 girls want the same kind of man and the man that fits what they want is just 1 man, and the man can only pick one. Then, what becomes of 49 others? They simply start lamenting of "Husband Scarcity". Another irony of our time is that it is hard, due to the face of our economy to find a man who is of marriage age who possesses all those things these ladies want, legally (except those involved in Internet fraud); even the number of those in Internet fraud is not enough to match all those searching for already made husbands. If you look around, majority of the ladies of substance, of good value and virtue, who are ready to build a home with a man who has prospects, are married and not complaining of husband scarcity. The easiest way to find a husband now, is to change your view of who a husband is. A husband is that man God made and then saw that it may be hard for him to really actualize his purpose for making him, without a help mate and then made the woman and gave to him, and he felt complete and fulfilled. MARRIAGE IS NOT A POVERTY ALLEVIATION PROGRAM. It is a mission of building the family of God here on earth. For those who see marriage as a way out of poverty, it is a way into bondage. Women are HOME BUILDERS, not HOME WARMERS... DON'T CONFUSE A MAN'S PATH WITH HIS DESTINY. Where he is today, may only be a route to where God has destined him to be tomorrow. Another truth is that YOU MAY BE THE ONLY FAST MEANS TO THAT HIS DESTINATION. Join in alleviating "husband scarcity". PICK UP THE RIGHT VALUES. I am not saying that you should pick anyone that comes your way and talks of marriage, not all men are husband materials. What I am saying is that you should stop setting your standard on material acquisitions or physical appearance, Look beyond the physical. WHAT MAKES A MAN WHO HE IS, IS NOT WHAT HE OWNS OR HOW HE LOOKS, IT IS WHAT HE IS MADE UP OF. And that which he is made of is, most times, not seen with the physical eyes, only its effects can be seen. Marriage is a permanent thing. Whatever is seen is temporal and that which is not seen is permanent. Relax and go to God in prayer. God did not just make Eve for making sake; He made her for Adam's need to become complete and fulfilled |

LAGOS—Controversy is currently trailing the death
of a 22-year-old man, who was allegedly set
ablaze by his landlady and her children in the
densely-populated Ajegunle area of Lagos.
The deceased, simply identified as Emmanuel,
reportedly went to ease himself in the early hours
of Tuesday, leaving his father and sister inside
their one-room apartment.
His sister, who had waited endlessly for his return,
went to check on him in the toilet situated at the
boys quarters of the building on Alafia Street.
She reportedly found her brother on the ground
with his body on fire. She raised an alarm, which
attracted tenants.
Two hospitals were said to have rejected
Emmanuel. He reportedly breathed his last after
writhing in pains.
The house where Emmanuel was allegedly burnt to
death. While the deceased’s family alleged that Emmanuel was set ablaze by the landlady and her children, the latter, who is on the run, alleged that the former intended to set the building ablaze but was caught in his own web. Feud Investigation by Vanguard revealed that there had been a lingering quarrel between Emmanuel’s family and the landlady. It was gathered that both parties had been to the Ajeromi Police Station several times to settle quarrels. A resident, who spoke on strict condition of anonymity when Vanguard visited, blamed policemen at Ajeromi for not nipping the situation in the bud until it led to Emmanuel’s death. According to the resident, “I blame policemen at Ajeromi for the death of this young man. Emmanuel’s father and the landlady have reported their misunderstandings to the police several times. Nothing was done to bring a lasting solution to the quarrel. Had they acted when they were supposed to, this would not have happened.” Although the resident could not tell exactly what happened that fateful night, he said: “I woke up with the alarm raised by some tenants that night. We were told that it was the deceased that lit the fire. “However, the question is how is it possible judging from the distance between his apartment and where the fire was said to have been lit? This is what the Police should look into.” Another resident, who also spoke with Vanguard, said: “How come he sustained fire burns if he was in his room? How come only the window of the affected room was gutted by fire if he did not intend to set the building ablaze? “Many are of the view that the petrol could have spilled on him as he struck the match. Besides, he was alone at the scene of the fire.” Police sources hinted that the landlady, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained, had bolted, adding that effort was on to apprehend her with a view to commencing investigation into the matter. At press time yesterday, operatives at the homicide section of the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department, SCIID, Yaba, had taken over the investigation. source : http://www.vanguardngr.com/?p=552560 |

Swaziland’s ‘prettiest virgins’ dance topless for King Mswati III, every August, hoping to be his next wife A common tradition in Swaziland (Swazi) permits the King, Mswati, to choose a new bride every year. According to reports by Talk Africa, it has been a long time tradition in Swaziland and isn’t the first time this controversial issue is making it into the news. It will be recalled that in 2012, Dailymail reported that topless virgins were paraded in front of the Swazi King, to celebrate chastity and unity. As part of Swazi custom and norms, that time of the year has come, when the King chooses his bride and again, he has reportedly tested girls’ virginity before choosing a wife for himself. The Reed Dance ceremony, known as Umhlanga reveals thousands of Swaziland’s ‘prettiest virgins’ dancing topless for King Mswati III, every August, hoping to be his next wife. source: http:///1DxaJsK

A 40-year-old man, Abdulhamid Yunus, on
Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’
Court in Lagos, for allegedly dumping a child at
the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja,
Police Station. The accused who resides at
Anifowose in Ikeja, Lagos State, is facing a three
count-charge of child abandonment, disorderly
conduct and disobedience to lawful order issued
by a constituted authority. He, however, pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, Insp. Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that the accused had on July 31 at 9 p.m., brought an abandoned toddler to the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Police Station. The prosecutor told the court that the baby that Yunus brought to the station belonged to an alleged female-suspect that had been in the police custody. Yunus who allegedly claimed to be a relative of the female-suspect said that he had been responsible for the upkeep of the baby till then. “The accused abandoned the toddler at the police station with the excuse that he could no longer care for the child while the mother was in the police custody. “Yunus in a disorderly manner and without regard for the safety of the child, flung the child to the floor at the station. “He, thus, disobeyed the police order not to abandon the child at the police station; thus causing a scene in the station’s ‘charge-room’ and disrupted police processes,’’ he said . The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 123, 166 and 247 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, in her ruling granted Yunus bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to Sept. 17 for mention. http://www.vanguardngr. com/2015/08/man-40-docked-for-allegedly-dum ping-toddler-at-police-station/#sthash.3aZDulN2 .dpuf |

Lagos State University Teaching Hospital
(LASUTH) Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof
Wale Oke has urged men to stop competing
with their babies to suck the wives’ breast.
Oke enjoined the men to allow their babies to
enjoy their natural meal. He spoke yesterday at the World Breastfeeding Week (WBW). The programme was organised by LASUTH Community Health Department in conjunction with the hospital’s Pediatrics. According to him, the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding are many. He said: “When a mother breastfeeds her baby, it creates bond between them. It is also a natural family mechanism as mothers cannot get pregnant. Breastfeeding mothers do not have bone diseases, breast and ovarian cancers.” Oke said the state has created an enabling environment for mothers with its policies to work and still feed their babies. “Working and breastfeeding can go together if mothers try because it is necessary to have healthy babies,” he said. Wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs Bolanle Ambode urged mothers to breastfeed their babies exclusively for six months so that they can be healthy. This, according to her, will prevent babies from coming down with childhood diseases, such as cough, diarrhea and catarrh, among others. Mrs Ambde, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the state’s Civil Service Pension Office, Mrs Ademola Olabowale, said medical science has made it known that breast supplies basic nutrients to newborns, adding that the breast milk remains the most important protein for babies’ growth. “The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for six months, and mixed breastfeeding up to two years,” she said. Breast milk, she said, usually helps to build the immunity for the newborns, saying it would protect them from childhood killer diseases. The state government, she said, has reviewed maternity leave for women in the state Civil Service from three to six months, adding that Lagos State is the only state in Nigeria where men go on paternity leave to support their wives with the burden of raising a new baby. Head of Department, Community Health Dr Yetunde Kuyinu said the week would help to improve babies’ health. She said the WBW is celebrated every year from August 1st to 7th in more than 170 countries to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies. She said working mothers can actually breastfeed their babies. “It is a known fact that many of our working class nursing mothers face a lot of challenges combining breastfeeding with work either at their work setting or at home. They tend to stop breastfeeding very early in the life of their babies, thus losing the dual benefits breastfeeding provides for both mother and child,” she said. source: thenationonlineng.net |

Ben1975: Funbii:[quote author=Ben1975 post=36632794]I disagree These problems you mentioned concerning social media are due to lack of focus and not the platform per se For example if you are a business owner there should only be 2 types of people you engage; those who buy your stuff and those who love your content . The problems that you mentioned are based on an individuals lack of direction which could be a problem on or offline Social media is a great way to grow business connections without leaving your home; Like LinkedIn for example But time does need to be managed wisely if you don't have objectives on social media then you could unwittingly be wasting doing unnecessary things just like if you were offline too. Ben Ajos You have a point sha.. but i must quit social media next year |

1. Profound Time Waster: Social media
obviously consumes more time than
necessary. While it is true that some of the
time spent on social media could be used
maintaining some important business
connections, it is also through that one
could be distracted and end up spending
valuable time on games, irrelevant chats
with strangers, downloading or viewing
photo albums of friends, reading friends’
updates, etc while the resultant effect of
these activities is less productivity and the
loss of valuable time. Dorie Clark of the
Huffington Post reports Facebook users
spend about six hours each month on the
site, while social networkers spend three
times as much time on those communities
as they do on other online activities like
email. You can imagine how much time is
lost. 2. Endangers Physical Human Relationship: It is no news that on the social media platform, a lot of relationships are built. But it is needless, proving that most of these relationships are deceptive in nature in the sense that they are only virtual and not real relationships. Online users make new friends with little or no emotional attachment online and this friendship is only sustained through chats. This virtual relationship endangers physical human relationship as it steals the time for physical inter-personal interaction, since no matter how intimate online friends could be, there is still need for a more concrete and physical relationship. 3. Endangers Self Security: Because of the liberty to share information, social media platforms endanger the security of the user because it is prone to hacking and identity theft. Some have been carried away by the fun of social media to disclose sensitive information that could endanger their security. Criminals even impersonate others in other to obtain classified information from their victims which could be used against the victims. 4. To Enhance one’s Financial Security: Online presence requires internet connection and this could be money sapping. The present day Nigeria does not guarantee the availability of functional free internet access and therefore, to be connected online, one has to spend to subscribe to internet access. For an effective social media presence, one has to be frequently online and at the end, this would require high data volumes and huge expenses which should have been used for something more rewarding. 5. To save one from addiction: Social media activism could be a torn in the flesh when one gets addicted to it. It has some damaging psychological effects when addiction is involved and the victim can hardly concentrate on any other thing except social media. PEACE 1 Like |

Suddenly, the empty noise makers have become
quiet. Suddenly, those who called the shots at ASO
Rock Villa and other Government Houses have
gone into hiding. Suddenly, those who resisted the
will of the people have accepted it inevitably.
Suddenly, thieves among us have repented
unceremoniously. Suddenly, those who took what
is not their own have started surrendering the loot
. Suddenly those who attempted to stop the train
of CHANGE have fallen by the way side. Suddenly,
oil subsidy has dropped astronomically. Suddenly ,
public institutions are rising from the dead.
Suddenly, the refineries are working. Suddenly
EFCC and ICPC are awake. Suddenly, there are no
more sacred cows at home and abroad. Suddenly
the big guns are queueing up at EFCC. Suddenly
we are hearing many damning confessions by past
leaders about their failures. Suddenly past leaders
are hiding stolen dollars in their farms, inside over
head and under head tanks. Suddenly the monies
are being recovered. Suddenly , celebrated thieves
are on the run and relocating abroad. Suddenly,
those who were healthy, robust and smiling as
they stole are now falling sick. Suddenly, they are
admitted in " arranged" hospitals abroad. Suddenly
those who condemned the CHANGE agent are now
pledging to support.suddenly , the civil service is
shaking and the corrupt are afraid as many
Permanent Secretaries and Directors are being
investigated. SuddenlybNigerians are uniting as no
one condemns the other for being Muslim or
Christian. Suddenly the dividing lines are closing.
Suddenly, the hate campaigns are dying. Suddenly
those who misled and benefitted from the past
misrule have abandoned their masters. Sud
denly,
the insurgents are in disarray and the army more
potent and ferocious. Suddenly , some governors
are working and turning things around. Suddenly,
some sleeping governors are woken by the
thunderous quest for change. Suddenly there is a
new beginning. Suddenly everyone seems to have
hope of a new Nigeria. Suddenly, we are all praying
that things will be good again. Suddenly Nigeria is
on everyone's lips. Suddenly we are the real giants
of Africa. Suddenly, suddenly.....we are suddenly
moving to the desired destination |

I wrote this poem here in early2014. I have been
wondering if this poem is still relevant today.
Please read it again and share your thoughts with
me. HONOURABLES WITHOUT HONOUR The chants are high Each time they register their presence The drum beats louder Once they take the stage They call them HONOURABLE Even when they drag honour To the ditch of honour. Listen my brothers To the voices of these honourables Who promise without conscience To build huge bridges Even where there are no rivers Like ice put in hot water Their pledge melts at once Come and see my sisters The faces of our folks elevated Drunk with the liquor of power As they murder sleep Squandering all mandate of honour Surrendered to them in trust dignified. My country men plus women What are these big mountains Standing stubbornly tall before us? A mountain of lies and promises has melted Tones of dead dreams deposited in our injured hearts Without honour or favour By the cruel hands of our HONOURABLES. Folks from all parts and paths Lend me your ears To listen to the ugly story Of your disguised assembly Of your careless flag bearers of recklessness Who like unwanted children have abandoned you In the dustbin of neglect At the mercy of merciless poverty Supervised by red-eyed hunger Monitored by a team of murderous diseases . Even as I stand on this rock of shock My eyes see with anguish inflated How like petrol tanker on fire Greed consume their every honour They suffocate under the huge burden Of unbridled boarder-less corruption Their whole fingers chopped off to the arms By the acid of fuel subsidy Many grey hairs of pension and stock exchange scam Standing stubbornly in their nostrils After the deafening noise of power probe Dirty money stoked in their long pockets of greed. Some of these men sitting with women Have warmed their seats for forty months and eight They are blind and deaf and without voice Sitting like loaves of bread turned dry By the coolness of a dozen air conditioners Never a word from their thick lips on national interest. Let me take you to the vintage area Decorated in distinguishing colours Reserved for only the DISTINGUISHED Not in character or patriotism In bribery corruption and rigging they excelled Come everyone and bear me witness To this season of " amala" politics Of take let's share In the game of CHOP MEK I CHOP Their protruding bellies housing our common wealth To distinguish them from the rest of us Our tiny necks almost broken by their tyranny. Cone my people Watch their dance of shame with no shame By these dishonourables of the Honourables Urged on and propelled in loud voices By a ruthless army of distinguished sharers Of our common wealth abused. |

PRESIDENTIAL MEDIA CHAT TONIGHT: 10 Questions for President Jonathan President Goodluck Jonathan will this evening host a televised media chat with some Nigerian journalists, during which he is expected to respond to questions on a number of topical national issues. Aso Rock spokesperson, Reuben Abati, said in a statement the presidential media chat, to be aired live on major television and radio stations in the country, would begin at 7 pm Nigerian time. The presidency promised in the past to entertain questions from Nigerians via telephone, although the phone failed to work during those episodes of the programme. Critics believe the phones were programmed not to work as a way of blocking citizens from asking the president embarrassing questions. So, in case you are able to reach the president on the programme today, we suggest you put the questions below to him, in addition to others you might have. We are told only questions relating to the ongoing electioneering would be answered. So we have restricted our suggested questions to the focus area. We also urge the editors, who will interview the president, to consider asking him some of the questions suggested below. Find the questions we raised for the June 24 edition of the Presidential Media Chat below: 1) You have always promised Nigerians and the international community free and credible elections. Yet a recently leaked audio recording suggested that you directed the military to rig last year’s Ekiti governorship election in favour of your party. In fact, your then Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, was overheard in the recording saying he was on a presidential assignment to rig the election. What exactly was your role in that saga? And why have you not commented on the matter or order an investigation? 2) Mr. President, you have always said that his election is not worth the blood of any Nigerian. But Niger Delta militants have on more than one occasion threatened blood and war if you are not re-elected. Some PDP governors – specifically those of Katsina and Kaduna – have been heard loud and clear threatening violence on their opponents. Why have you remained quiet over such inciting statements? 3) Can you, Mr. President, on your honour, give a clear commitment that INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega, will be allowed to conduct the rescheduled polls, given speculations you might illegally send him off before the polls? Nigerians are suspicious you might give him the kind of treatments you gave Justice Ayo Salami and former CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido. 4) Mr. Buhari, your main challenger in the presidential election, has contested thrice and lost thrice. From his first outing in 2003 to the last in 2011, he never drew a significant popular support across board as many Nigerians viewed him as part of the old system. As Mr. Buhari’s co-contestant in 2011 and now 2015, what do you think is responsible for what appears to be massive support for the same Mr. Buhari this time around? 5) Mr. President, besides widespread unemployment in Nigeria, one of the talking points of the electioneering has been the action of one of your ministers who apparently seized on the widespread unemployment in Nigeria to collect nearly a billion naira from unemployed Nigerians without giving them jobs. He did so through a company he unilaterally appointed, against public procurement rules. Worst, at least a dozen people who turned up for the job test died. These much were confirmed by a Senate investigation. Why have you, the president our country, failed to sanction Minister Abba Moro who committed these acts? 6) Mr. President, you said in 2011 you would not run in 2015 and that whatever you cannot do in four years you would never be able to do in 100 years. But recently you contradicted yourself, saying four years are not enough for any president to make an impact? When did you realize that four years are not enough? And why this apparent self-contradiction? 7) The Federal Government said the military would not be available to provide security for the postponed election. How did we come to see election security more a responsibility for the military than the police, para-military and other arms of the security agencies? ![]() bombing incident? 9) Your estranged godfather, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Tuesday formally endorsed your opponent, Muhammadu Buhari. How did the relationship between both of you degenerate to this extent? What really went wrong between |
