Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by Topgags: 1:51pm On Jun 25, 2023
@showyoung. Pls how do I contact you. Would like to ask more questions on this. Or can I email you?

I wouldn't have put my mouth in this if not for the purpose of people who may be willing to immigrate, study or work in Canada but haven't found a way.

@Nbv1
While I understand your perspective, kindly allow me to show you how you could have conveyed your message more constructively.

I think the first three lines of your post sounds uncomfortable.

Also, you are correct in saying people should travel to Canada with a lot of money.

@Chiziteremary
I understand your perspective too. You may want to omit "...don't listen to any negative..." Although it does not sound discomforting. It is a word of encouragement.

I do not judge anyone. Both of you are correct in your opinion.

My perspective
.
While it may be expensive to live in some part of Canada, I think it is not wrong to say Canada is worth trying to immigrate to, work in or study in.

Toronto is just a small part of Ontario. Bills may be expensive in Toronto but not the same in St Thomas, Woodstock, Sarnia, London etc. These places are in Ontario. Even some people are running away from Ontario because they say it is cheaper to live in other provinces and still get the same thing or more than you can get in Ontario.

Let us talk about Nova Scotia, Halifax per sé, the same 2 bed apartment you pay $2500 - $3000 for in Toronto costs just $1000 - $2000 in Halifax. Even, it's $1000 - $1300 in some small cities in Ontario. Meanwhile Halifax has a population of close to 920,000. This is a big city.

Not everyone wants to live in Toronto. It is known that Toronto and Vancouver are expensive and can be compared to New York.

You can get in Calgary what you can get in Toronto. Calgary has a population of close to 2m. Life is not as hard in Calgary.

Meanwhile, you don't need to live in a 2 bed if you just need to live in a 1 bed, you can even rent a 1 room and jettison 1 bed. It all depends on your lifestyle.

Let us do some analysis here.

Wage:
Minimum wage in Ontario is $16/hour.
Minimum wage in Alberta is $15/hour.

Rent:
Rent in Ontario (Toronto) for example 2 bed $2500 (the price may be higher).
1 room in a shared apartment is $1200+

Rent in Alberta (Calgary) for example 2 bed $1700 (the price may be lower or higher).
1 room in a shared apartment is $700+

Population:
Toronto: 6.3m.
Calgary: 2m.

Let us choose, where would you like to live with just those simple data?

Many people are home owners in Regina, Calgary, St John's, Oromocto, London etc yet the same wealth would not buy a home in GTA. You choose the kind of life you want to live.

Also, I would accept a job that pays $30/hr in St Thomas, Ontario instead of a job that pays 35/hr in Toronto, Ontario.

One fact to note, Toronto, Vancouver and other big cities are not for people earning minimum wage. People should get that fact. If you are earning $30/hr, why would you find it difficult to live in Toronto? What kind of life are you living? You will enjoy Toronto without being stupidly rich if you can take care of your rent.

The truth is one can earn more and live a more comfortable life in Ogun State than in Lagos or Abuja. This is a practical fact and not an assumption.

I hope my analysis and analogies are clear enough to understand. [/quote]
