please someone..... what is the meaning of multiple visa... you have the opportunity of travelling to the place more than ones or how ?

A multiple visa is the type that allows you to stay up to 6 months at a time. Eg If you are granted a 2 year visa, you are allowed to travel until the expiry, but you are not expected to stay more that 6 months on each visit.

How is your mum related to the person in the U.S. Is she her mum, if yes that will be the only way she can apply for a green card while she is in the US, if she is not, then she stands a chance to be on the 10 years growing ban list for misrepresenting her visa use. Why will your aunt spoil her chances when she can pay for her trip within her 6 months duration which allows her to be back after her visit to Nigeria. Your aunt should not act like she doesn't know what it is when you overstay your visit in the US.

Mum is elder sister to the person in the US. Mum is not very keen about US settlement. She has no intention of visiting again.

My worry is that she might be denied UK visa when I apply for her. She hasn't been the the UK before. On UK visa application form, there is a provision for one to list all countries one has visited, and the duration. Again, I'd imagine her visa would be stamped on arrival to Nigeria. That means it will be possible to conceal her overstaying.
Travel / Mum Went To US On A 2 Yr Multiple Entry Visa And Stayed For A Year. by ubamu2029: 11:08am On Jun 20, 2016
Hi Guy, I'm looking for inputs.

Mum travelled to the US a year ago with auntie's kids. She went on a 2 years multiple entry visa. Auntie didn't allow her to come back after 6 months (as required) as she wanted mum to help with school runs until the kids settled down. She attempted to file for papers for her but apparently, that would take ages to come out. Mum doesn't mind staying for up to a year. She had been to the US thrice in the past and would be glad if this overstay would mean visa denial to the US in future. She doesn't like the solitary lifestyle. She is finally coming back to Nigeria in a couple of days, after one year of stay.

Now here is the problem; I'm hoping to invite mum to the UK around August next year. I'm a bit worried this US cock-up has ruined her chances of visiting me in the UK in future. Any thoughts guys?

Lexusgs430:

Just an observation, why not appeal the initial application? Not unless I have missed something along the way.
84 Grounds of appeal
(1)An appeal under section 82(1) against an immigration decision must be brought on one or more of the following grounds—
(a)that the decision is not in accordance with immigration rules;
(b)that the decision is unlawful by virtue of section 19B of the Race Relations Act 1976 (c. 74) (discrimination by public authorities) [F1or Article 20A of the Race Relations (Northern Ireland) Order 1997] ;
(c)that the decision is unlawful under section 6 of the Human Rights Act 1998 (c. 42) (public authority not to act contrary to Human Rights Convention) as being incompatible with the appellant’s Convention rights;

To appeal on the grounds of Human Right will be tough. Since they removed the full right of appeal, they've not been fair to applicants especially families of those who are settled.

4months is far too long, 1-2 months should have been better considering her age and that of the husband.

Justwise, do you suggest I change the length of visit to 1-2 months when I re-apply? Won't that be suspicious?
Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 2 by ubamu2029: 12:55pm On Feb 07, 2015

How about her 70years old husband? He is her strongest tie to Nigeria because they need each other, that and the section in bold should have been added during the initial application. Explaining how close they are and that she will not leave her husband in Nigeria and overstay in the UK. 4months is far too long, 1-2 months should have been better considering her age and that of the husband.

I can get the husband to also write a letter for the re-application. He is also swearing an affidavit to say she must return.

I didn't get the children to write initially because I thought that as I am funding the travel, getting them to write won't be necessary. Don't you think that changing the initial 4 months to 2 months now will raise a red flag?

Who helped her with the application?

Can you list documents submitted?

I helped her with the application. I submitted the following;

1. My six months payslip (approximately £1500/ month. I work with nhs professionals as a flexible worker)

2. NHS bursary notification (£800/ month. I'm a psychiatric student nurse.
3. Students finance (£760 paid quarterly)

4. My daughter's evidence of child benefit.
5. Evidence of childtax credit (£270/ month)

6. Tenancy agreement ( 2 bedroom flat)

7. Evidence of university enrolment and council tax exemption.
8. Data page of my british passport, daughter's British passport and wife's spouse visa.
9. A letter of invitation stating I will be fully responsible for all expenses.

10. Mother in-law's nigerian passport.

For re-application, I'm considering getting the first son and in-laws to write letters and provide their bank statements, father in-law to swear an affidavit to say he is happy for her to travel for 4 months, state that they own their own home in the village and no document to show, include a family photograph of her family, list names and marital status of all children, grandchildren and in-laws, get the village clergy to write a letter of introduction and to state that she would return after her visit. I have also booked a BA flight with return.

Could the experts advice please.

Wife is expecting a baby and I am inviting mother in-law for 4 months. I am providing accommodation (in a 2 bedroom flat) and all expenses associated with her travel. Mother in-law was refused because she is unemployed and has no property to show.

Problem is, she is 60 years and has a 70 year old husband. They own their own home and farmland in village but no document to show. She is a farmer and lives in the village and doesn't operate her bank account. She saves her money under her pillow.

I have asked her to print her bank statement all the same (which has just N40k in it), get my father in-law to do an affidavit saying he is happy for her to travel for four months, asked the village vicar to give a letter, included a family photograph with her family (7 of them of which 6 are in nigeria), drawn a list of all children, grandchildren and in-laws, got the son to give a letter stating they support their mom financially and include bank statement, got 2 sons in-law in nigeria to do same.

On my part, I have booked an onward and return flight with BA, included receipts and pictures of gifts items we purchased during the christmas sales in preparation of her going back (worth over £1000). I previously supplied evidence of income (bank statements, payslips etc), employment, data page of my passport, wife's and daughter's passports, invitation letter and tenancy agreement.

What else can I provide to show this people that mom in-law is not running away from nigeria and she is provided for in nigeria?

Your sister will need to be a British citizen, or have indefinite leave to remain in the UK inorder to qualify to study nursing. BSc Nursing is funded by NHS so if she has no recourse to public funds, the possibility of getting admitted is zero.

Career / Re: Ask Me Questions About Careers In The Military by ubamu2029: 9:44pm On Dec 23, 2013
The structure of the Nigerian military seems to mirror that of the British. However, in the British military, Sergeant Major is a designation and not a rank. The role of the Sergeant Major is usually performed by a Warrant Officer class 1 or 2. I would expect this to be the same in Nigeria. I said this because someone did mention earlier that Sergeant Major is a rank in the Nigerian army.

I was in Nigeria not long ago and was appalled by the conduct of some of our service personnel. I am a member of the British forces and here, we are subjected to the same rules as other citizens. We do get stopped, searched, cautioned etc by the police. I don't remember a case of a whole battalion trooping out to beat up the police for performing their duties.

claremont:

I wouldn't advice anyone to join the Nigerian Army, you would be better off joining the French Foreign Legion or the British Army.

The British military no longer recruit from commonwealth countries unless the applicant has been resident in the UK for at least 5 years.

Travel / Re: Nigerians In Sweden, How Is The Economy And Life Generally by ubamu2029: 8:30pm On May 03, 2011
For all those wishing to study in Sweden, my advice to you is that your sole aim should be to study.
I studied in Sweden in 2005/2006. There system of education is qualitative and you spend most of your time studying.
Don't go to Sweden with the intention of working. You will be disappointed because all you will do is 'panting', picking
up empty beer cans or distributing weekend papers and adverts which will not be sufficient to sustain you.

I left Sweden after my MSc in 2006. I'm now settled in the UK. The facilities are
fantastic in Sweden, but ensure you have a sponsor before you leave Nigeria. I don't know if the job situation has improved now,
but don't make yourself illegal in Sweden or any other EU country by abandoning your studies. Tuitions are free (at least for now),
but housing and general upkeep aren't.

It used to be much easier before our people started abusing their system. I wish all honest applicant success.

Kobojunkie:

I am sorry but there is a problem I see in your approach to this. First off . . . . you cannot compare the states in the way you have there. We are talking here of 4 years of continous non-government in places like Abia and Imo -- both with PDP controlled senates. That you have two wonderful Governors who happen to be PDP but have chosen to set themselves apart from the rest doesn ot remove from the fact that PDP has been bad as a whole to the SOuth East, at least for the past 12 years.

You have to look at the whole, not decide because you spot two exceptional cases means that their is some hope in PDP and so a reason to retain PDP. You forgot to mention the terror that the people of Imo and Abia have been subjected to in the last 4 years.

How long should we keep giving the same groups a chance, in the same states, hoping for something different? I mean If Enugu decided to vote PDP after the last 4 years of living with one of the only good PDP Governors out there, then let that be Enugu. But there is absolutely no rational reason why Imo Or Abia should vote the same party and expect  something different.

To this, I again state that ACN is not the only alternative out in the east for South Easterners, and should not be used as reason why we saw PDP retain it's ground in the very same states that have suffered at the hands of this same party for 12 straight years.

If you read through my post once again, I said
I was also in Imo and Abia state. I think these 2  PDP governors don't deserve another term. It's
time the people got rid of them
. I'm not very sure about the achievements of the senators or house of
representative members. However, if the Igbos think the people whom they voted for won the elections, there
is not need to scream Igbos this and Igbos that.

I did not in any way imply that Igbos should vote Ohakim, or Orji. On the contrary, I said the duo don't deserve another term in office.
It's all about bad management. If Amaechi and his Enugu State counterpart performed creditably, there is no excuse for Ohakim and
Orji not to perform.

We should vote people and not parties. That's my emphasis. I will be disappointed if Ohakim wins re-election because his performance
was woeful.

^^ you dont know what youre talk about. ohakim isnt acn hes pdp

if pdp is good for SE fine but not for the SW and AD govenors where not in there for long before PDP and Obj rigged them out.

but that being said LAM Adesina is better than akala the most stylish govenor in naija.

Note the statement in parenthesis. I didn't say Ohakim is in ACN.

I don't know what the situation in Oyo State is now, but when I was serving in Oyo, Lam Adeshina underperformed grossly. When Ladoja defeated him the whole of Oyo went agog; similar to what we are experiencing now.
Politics / Re: Yorubas Liberated, Igbos Still In Bondage by ubamu2029: 10:18pm On Apr 11, 2011
I was in PortHarcourt and Enugu last year. I think the governors of these state are doing really well.
There is no need to vote them out just because they are members of PDP. We should learn to
vote for people, not parties.

I was also in Imo and Abia state. I think these 2  PDP governors don't deserve another term. It's
time the people got rid of them. I'm not very sure about the achievements of the senators or house of
representative members. However, if the Igbos think the people whom they voted for won the elections, there
is not need to scream Igbos this and Igbos that.

That Fashola performed does not mean all the people being voted for in the SW under the umbrella of
ACN will perform. When AD was the opposition, what feat did they achieve? When Lam Adeshina was
ruling Oyo, what was his achievements?

Guys, let's emphasize more on the character of the people we vote for and not their party.
I will rather vote an Amechi of PDP than an Ohakim of ACN (Assuming Ohakim is an ACN member).

Yea, Christmas is over and my journey back home was wow!
I finally travelled with N350k and it went a long way.
I had to spend an extra £300 but it was fun being to Nigeria.

I stayed with a friend for a day in Lagos but it was a bit hot.
Didn't know taxis charge up to N3,500 for a distance of about 25 miles.

I asked my friend who came to meet me at the airport to buy Mtn SIM for me.
I inserted in a new phone I bought and called Mom etc.
But when I got home, I realized the phone dropped out of my pocket.
I rang the phone but it was switched off!
Just 5 minutes after.

While going to catch my local flight at MM2? I was stopped by the police and was searched.
My flight to PH was scheduled for 3pm and it was 1.30pm then. The traffic was bad.
I explained the situation to the men but it only made them slower in searching my luggage.

At last I had an idea. I offered them some items in my luggage. A can of John walter biscuits.
The Oga insisted on collecting all 3 in my luggage but I refused. A sister in-law specifically asked for them.
On seing a wallet I had in my baggage, they also wanted it. I asked the Oga to take it cos I was running late to catch my flight. After that they asked for bribe from the “big brother”. I bluntly refused. But realizing what time it was then (2:25pm), I gave them N1000 which they refused and I had to top it up to N2000.

When I got to the airport, I was told the airline I booked with wasn’t flyging to PH that day. I was told to wait in Lagos for 2 days but I refused. I got my refund and booked with another airline which was supposed to depart MM2 at 6pm. I was at the airport until 10pm. We finally made it to PH shortly before 11pm.I had to wait another 1 hr because our luggage were checked in as cargo and we had to go to another location to collect them.

My bros was waiting for me and he drove like a mad man cos the airport road was so lonely. Scary.

I had fun back home. I met my family, old friends etc. I was re-united with tombo liquor. I had to keep my pocket under control because everybody wanted something. I did the much I could.

On coming back to the UK, I could hadly get home. The snow covered everywhere. I couldn’t get a train out of London so I had to stay over. The following day, after much delays, I got on the train to my destination. When I got to my station, there were no Taxis on the road. I had to do the only possible thing. Walk a distance of over 14 miles. I was grateful to God I didn’t carry a lot of stuff. I only had a little hand luggage.

It was an eventful journey and I can’t wait for December to come again. I’m home again this year with a better budget.
Travel / Re: How Expensive Is Nigeria At Present? by ubamu2029: 11:40am On Dec 02, 2009
Some of these posts are scary while others are comforting.

The question of staying back because I have only got N200,000 to spend does not arise.
I have bought my tickets already (both international and local).
I intend to keep a low profile and if things get too bad, I'm off to my elder brothers
place in another state to spend the rest of my holiday.

As I said earlier, the N200k is just for spending.
I have put £400 (N100,000) aside for my siblings schools fees and stuff.
I bought gifts worth over £800 (Another N200,000).
My flights cost me £1000 (N250,000)

In all, this journey is costing me over N750,000 and I only finished my studies about 1 year ago
(and have been working since then).

The difference between the  day I'm arriving home and the day I'm leaving for the airport (back to the UK)
is only 9 days, and I won't let friends ruin it for me.

Thank you all who contributed. I will certainly let you know how it went.

@ All,

Thank you very much for your generous contributions. I'm overwhelmed by the quality of advice I'm getting and it's indeed an eye opener.

I do understand that things have changed over the past 5 years. I would have loved to travel to nigeria yearly but it hasn't been possible because I was a student most of the time I have been here.

I have friends in nigeria whom I would like to see.  I have also sent some gifts back home and hope to take some more with me when travelling.

N200,000 is only an estimate. Besides this amount, I have put aside about £400 to give my younger ones and cousins for their school fees. I don't intend to stay in the hotel because I want to spend the few days with my Mum and siblings.

I don't intend to pay for public transport when I get home. However, I am borrowing a car from my elder brother and will be in control of it throughout my stay.

Once again, thank you all for your informative contributions.

I know it's going to be tough though.
My intention at the interim is not to please anyone.
In time, if things appreciate, we can make ammends.

@Paroh_frey,

Thanks for your priceless advice. I wouldn't spend £800 just like that whilst here in the UK.
As I said earlier, it's been almost 5 yrs.

As per the gifts, I already bought and sent them by air freight. It cost  me a fortune (£200) to send 40 kg of luggage to nigeria. I found that astronomical. About the stuff I will carry with my when I'm travelling, I will seriously consider POUNDLAND as you suggested.

Hello country people!

I ve been away from home (nigeria) for 4.5 yrs now.
I spend most of the stated time studying and now I'm coming to visit home by Xmas.
From the information I gathered, a lot have changed.
A bottle of star now cost N170! It was barely N80 when I left home.

Now my question is, Will N200,000 sustain me from 23rd Dec - 5th of Jan?
I will be staying in my parents house but I ve got to "dash" people money.
I also have a few younger ones in School who need "sorting".
Already I have bought gifts worth over £800 but I'm still scared it's going to be tough.

Anyone out there been home lately? Pls share your survival strategy. I want to know.
