IMO,200k isn't enough,if he's travelling to the East. Regular lagosians travelling to the East for holidays hold close to that. Unless as advised you really have a deft game plan, peeps may think you're stingy. . . . . .

Tho' considering its 200k + plenty gifts. . . is should be fine.

I don't understand. DOES IT MEAN THAT YOU GUYS ABROAD ARE THAT BROKE!!? AM JUST AN ORDINARY EVERYDAY GUY HERE IN NIGERIA, BUT I SPENT N5k PER WEEK ON ECONOMY SCALE! AND YOU ARE COMING HOME AFTER 5 YEARS EXPECTING TO COME HOME WITH JUST N200,000k. YOU BETTER STAY BACK! CAUSE YOU WILL JUST COME AND MAKE A FOOL OF YOURSELF.

YOU SHOULD BE TALKING OF COMING HOME TO SPEND N1.5M ON ECONOMY SCALE. Don't forget you are coming to the east you should keep extra N1m to bail yourself out in case kidnappers gbab you.

Reminder: Kidnapping bail out prices: Okada Rider - N3k, Taxi Driver - 5K, Ochanja Trade-50k, 200k, 450K depending on his trade, Obodo Oyibo returnee(with jeep) N3m, without jeep N500k - N1.5m depending on the family, politician N300m, nollywood actor N1.5m - N10m.  Note: price maybe reviewed upward depending on deregulation and increased population based on yuletide.

Food for thought grin grin

Who told you they are broke? Did they go abroad so they can comeback and show off. The best they can do is to buy one or two gift for family and friends simple.

So coming to spend time with your family is not a concrete reason right? Is there any rule that you cannot visit your country any time you wish because you are based abroad?

I WAS THERE (IMO STATE ) THIS YEAR AFTER SPENDING THREE YRS IN EUROPE (I STAYED IN MY PARENTS HOUSE BUT ALSO SPENT SOME DAYS IN HOTEL ), JUST SPENT ONE MONTH. LET ME JUST TELL YOU THE TRUTH, 200K WILL NOT BE ENOUGH, COS I KNOW HOW MUCH I SPENT AND REMEMBER YOU ARE TRAVLING BY XMAS PERIOD.

GIVING PPL MONEY IS NOT THE BEST OPTION TRY THE GIFT THING, COS MOST PPL MAY USE THE MONEY U GAVE THEM AGAINST YOU, (JAZZ MEN, THEY FULL FOR VILLAGE)

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY DONT 4GET TO BUY YOUR RETURNING TICKET THERE IN UK, AND IMMEDIATLY YOU ARRIVE GIVE LIKE 10K AND YOUR PASSPORT TO YOUR MOM OR DAD TO KEEP, IS VERY IMPORTANT. once you are out of cash take that 10k and the neXt ABC to lagos,

HAVE A NICE TRIP.

@ All,

Thank you very much for your generous contributions. I'm overwhelmed by the quality of advice I'm getting and it's indeed an eye opener.

I do understand that things have changed over the past 5 years. I would have loved to travel to nigeria yearly but it hasn't been possible because I was a student most of the time I have been here.

I have friends in nigeria whom I would like to see.  I have also sent some gifts back home and hope to take some more with me when travelling.

N200,000 is only an estimate. Besides this amount, I have put aside about £400 to give my younger ones and cousins for their school fees. I don't intend to stay in the hotel because I want to spend the few days with my Mum and siblings.

I don't intend to pay for public transport when I get home. However, I am borrowing a car from my elder brother and will be in control of it throughout my stay.

Once again, thank you all for your informative contributions.

200k is manageable but this period u are going to naija is xmas so the probability that you will spend more than that is high. especially if you are going to the village. or east. i stayed in an hotel for 2weeks in kuly as i said earlier and it was 4k5 per night for 14days thats like 72k, at least on a daily basis i spend mtn 750 12k this is excluding the ones i can remember oo. food minimum is 1k per meal. so lets say 2meal thats like 2k =32k, transport, 3k per day taxi =48k minus the time i had to enter BRT and fly okada oo so based on what i can remember total -=164k.  bearing in mind i didint give anybody 1penny, as i coded myself well well.  this is what i can remember, no clubbing, no drinking, no going far in taxi becos 3k was from like to and fro from gbagda to ikeja gra ooo. and i even price am well sef for that price. so in reality you might be able to manage it well but to be realistic it is not enough.

Oga pharaoh, e be like say u stingy well well. i dont know wch part of the country u r from but pls refrain from telling this guy to come home with just 200k, it might work for you because u r a miser. no matter how he avoids it, he will feel obliged to splash some money around, and not to mention, things are not as cheap as they were when he was in the country.

My friend if you are a student dont stress yourself because if someone refuses to understand that,
then they dont deserve a penny from you.

In imo state ,things are not that expensive. if you need to take friends out in owerri just take them
to Dan Anyiam. It's bustling and they have series of nice out-door spots there.
The food and drinks are affordable and nobody will really notice you unless you start showing yourself.

Im travelling @ xmas  to imo too but im not a student  grin so N200,000 wont cut it for me sha
