Maybe you shouldn't even bother showing at all. With the kind of responses here, expect to be kidnapped the moment you show up in your village |

The standard of living is so poor that the cost of living is above the reach of the masses [sub][/sub]average Nigerian. As for the 200,000 Naira, it may do if you weren't coming from 'Obodo Oyibo'. |
Re: How Expensive Is Nigeria At Present? by gen2boi: 3:50pm On Nov 24, 2009 |
@poster One thing you have to consider is your popularity in your state before you left nigeria if you ar popular and well known as a BIG BOY then u must be kidding spending just only 200k in 2 weeks, U should have nothing less than 2m -3m to make your ppl happy. But if you are a working class man 200k shld be enough for you provided you lay low, |

The guy ask 4 advice on coming home and pple were discouraging him. Ol'boy, just come as you are and d only thing is make ur immediate family feel good about ur coming. Was in 9ja last Dec to Jan 15th, spent over 1 mil but went again this Nov for just 1 week and spent less than 200k. the next time I go will be less than that on pple and gifts and more to myself and projects. The longer u stay away, the more expensive it will be 4 you to come back home. Just come as u are, provided u have ur return ticket and a credit card for emergency purpose at the airport - if need be 4 change of date. ile baba omo kin'ba mo l'eru |

rofl. Wellll . . . . . . . I must confess, I did enjoy watching mummy spend her money. Oh yess. . . It depends on your responsibility. If your people hold pepper, there is nothing that will make them depend on you simply because u come home for Xmas. But if you are the alpha and omega for your family, N200K will not be enough, but its doable. some girls for Naija have smaller responsibility than guys. |

I took about N405,000 for a 3 week stay. Didn't need that much though. Family and Friends are "taxing" much less than in times past. |

I just came back from Nigeria two weeks ago. I had this fear when I was going over a month ago. My five weeks in that country cost me around 300k naira. This is because I had to travel around (mostly by air), buy beer for guys, petrol for generator and for cars that will take me around and lots more. With 200k naira you are going to have to push it. Goodluck and let us know how it went for you when you get back. |
Re: How Expensive Is Nigeria At Present? by Digriz(m): 8:59pm On Dec 01, 2009 |
Guy i wl advice u to cut ur coat according to ur size and dnt do wat u gonna regret just to please some old pals. Coming home wt 200k wl b ok for u since ur folks already knw wat u are,ur a student right? u gonna b treated like a student and they would'nt expect much frm u. Forget abt d money and concentrate on gifts,u cn buy some cheap bt fanciful phones and clothings for ur family and few for ur relatives. Give them those gifts and u wl see their joy and still u hv some few bucks. |
Re: How Expensive Is Nigeria At Present? by kech(f): 9:15pm On Dec 01, 2009 |
I went to naija over the summer for 2 weeks and I didn't spend up to $1000. NO KIDDING!!!! A lot of things factored into this though. 1) Free housing, free car, free food. 2) I made sure I had enough gifts to share to friends and family. I only give money to my siblings. My parents do not take my money. They'd rather I get them something. 3) I'm lucky to have very good and responsible friends who can hold their own. I always get them nice things but they NEVER EVER ask me for money. Whenever I go to naija I hardly spend a dime with them. They don't even let me. They treat me like a baby. They say "Kech, don't worry, we gat this." From daily trippings, to recharge cards, you name it! I don't have time for slackers, lay-abouts and parasites. I see myself as a loyal friend because I always have my friend's backs, and I expect same from my friends. I have friends I un-remorsefully dropped like hot cakes because they don't keep in touch. They only remember me when they need something. I don't need those kind of people around me. In other words, I have less friends now than I did before I left Naija. And the other ones know better than to show up at my door whenever I go back. NB: Please change your money into Naira before you give people. People seem more ungrateful when you give them in Dollars or Pounds because it feels "less". |
