That corner also houses the receiver drier, and is the most common area of leaks. The small O-ring seal on top of the receiver drier can perish, and cause loss of gas. The other area in that same corner is the lower pipe-to-condenser seal / join. a) Check the pipe-to-condenser, this is a particularly leak-prone area. It is also common for the union to seize, and when trying to undo the large nut (aluminium) it is all too easy to twist the end of the condenser. This can weaken it, to the point it later bursts. b) Check the receiver drier (cannister) top pipe seal. Note, all seals / O-rings used in aircon joints MUST be green or lilac. These are specific to any system that runs R123-A. The gas molecules are so tiny, the use of the more common black O-rings is not adviced, as they will not hold the gas for long. Any leaks will most likely leave a yellow-green oily residue - providing PAG oil and the yellow dye was added when last the system was charged. I'm willing to bet your leak is in one of the two areas I've mentioned. Either the old O-rings were re-used, or the wrong (black) ones were used. Please check the above, and get back to me. For reference, I'm attaching a diagram of the 2002 Volkswagen Passat 4,0 W8 aircon system, including pipework, receiver drier, condenser and compressor. Components are as follows: Receiver drier: #22. Condenser: #3. Compressor: Above #26. Pipe-to-condenser seal: #58. Pipe-to-receiver drier seal: #55. Pipes-to-compressor seals: 15 & 15a. Check all the seal areas for leaks. When your compressor, condenser, pressure switch etc were replaced back in '09, what was actually wrong with your air con system? It just seems a lot to replace in one hit, to resolve[i].[/i]..? Hi Siena, I am so sorry. Its unbelievable i never saw this your response until now. My W8 is still same. Do you have a clue where I can take this vehicle to in Abuja to get it sorted. If not. Would you consider investing in a Volkswagen Service centre in Abuja to meet the needs of teeming volkswagen owners that just do not have where to take their vehicles for service and repair. The responses you are getting from your thread clearly demonstrates that their is a gap to be filled.I willing to partner you in this regard - Equity and resources, etc. My W8 is an awesome performance vehicle. Nothing I have driven comes close. I want to get this ride to its pristine condition.pls revert. Thanks |

Hi Siena, Pls help Volswagen passat W8 4.0 litre engine Triptronic transmission 2003 Us/canada 4 motion - permanent AWD Issue- AC blows hot. I was advised to replace compressor, condenser, dryer and pressure switch which I did. After these replacements it was cooling like for a month until a blow out of the pressure switch occurred. I changed the switch and it started working again. However, it started blowing hot after a month again. Thanks |
