Politics / TUC, Others Bemoan Effects Of Deregulation On Nigerians by uncleb(m): 12:51pm On Aug 17, 2012
They had the golden opportunity have the names recorded as messiahs of our time, they had the support of everybody, the CLO, SNG, and even the opposition party was powerfully aligning with them to enthrone accountability in the Nigerian political sphere. But they backed out( God knows all that transpired).

Today, they are complaining,................................. and the story goes thus

Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, yesterday decried the high cost of cement and diesel as a result of the deregulation of prices, noting that a group of Nigerian businessmen are holding the country hostage and thereby making Nigerians to suffer.

Speaking during a Vanguard Conference Hall meeting on the theme: “Fuel Subsidy and the Ethical Deficiencies in Public Office in Nigeria,” the TUC’s Head, Media and Information, Mr Onyeka Chuwudi, said Nigerians are made to pay the highest price for diesel and cement along the West Coast.
In his words: “There is an ongoing gang-up against Nigerians. A whole lot of those people that used the opportunity that the subsidy has created have ganged up against Nigeria, even the Automated Gasoline Oil, AGO, (popularly called diesel) that is not under subsidy, Nigerians are made to pay the highest price in the West Coast. It is the same group of Nigerians that is holding Nigeria hostage.
“The simple truth is that in Nigeria, what we pay for a litre of diesel is higher than what citizens of other countries pay for a litre of diesel, same thing with cement. When you trace it, you cannot go beyond a certain group of people that are holding Nigeria hostage, which has also brought the people in power.”
Chuwudi said there was a correlation between the subsidy regime and the election year, saying that the election year has a lot of impact with the subsidy regime, noting that returns from the fuel subsidy may have been used for election campaign and funding of political parties.
He added that the first process of sanitizing the subsidy regime is to reveal the real data of consumption to Nigerians. He said: “The people in government should be able to tell us how much we are paying for the fuel subsidy. With this data, Nigerians will be able to know where to ask question, and who to ask. Because there is a deliberate attempt to falsify data. The quantity of fuel consumption in Nigeria must be traced, but nobody has given that figure.
Also speaking, the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigerian, MOMAN, alleged that the Federal Government lacked the political will to remove fuel subsidy in the country, noting that efforts should be geared towards removing it.
The Executive Secretary of MOMAN, Mr. Obafemi Olawore, said there has not been enough political will to remove the subsidy, saying “if we continue to say that government is bleeding, the economy is bleeding because we are spending money on subsidy and we are not making effort to block it then there is a problem.”
Explaining the reason for the existence of fuel subsidy in the country, Olawore noted that what is produced in the country is not sufficient which is why the country resorted to the importation of premium motor spirit, PMS or petrol.
He, however, argued that the pump price of petrol cannot be isolated from the international price of crude, as “Once you buy at the international market, there is going to be a difference of what is produced and what you are told to sell.
“Whether it is right or wrong is not what am after. What I am after is that somebody is buying the product at a particular price and therefore he has to recover his cost, if he does and he recovers fully and you tell him to sell at a lower price then there is gap and that gap is the subsidy.
The Chairman of Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, DAPPMA, Mr. DapoAbiodun, said his association is fully in support of government’s move to deregulate and sanitise the downstream petroleum industry.
On the issue of deregulation and subsidy, we in DAPPMA support government’s move contrary to what the masses think or thought, because they accuse us that we are the beneficiaries of subsidy; we were being called criminals, the cabal. Let them remove subsidy, let your efficiency be your profit.
Although he admitted that there have been some sharp practices in the industry, he argued that the marketers were not alone in it and accused some government agencies of complicity.
“Anytime you have a regime where you buy at a price and you are being told to sell at a fixed rate and the government is paying you back, there is a guarantee, it will be abused, particularly in a country like Nigeria.
“Let’s think about it, we are not government; there is no marketer, be it the DAPPMA, or MOMAN or IPMAN or JEPTFON that will allocate one single drop of petroleum to itself. So that’s where you will start this question from.
“Where were we in 2009 and 2010, what was the volume of PMS that was being allocated and imported into this country. What happened? Did marketers allocate these products to themselves? How did the number of marketers that were loading and importing petroleum products into this country rise exponentially?”
He attributed the astronomical rise in subsidy payments in 2011 to the sudden increase in the number of product importers, saying, “Sometime last year, from giving PPPRA allocation to about 20, 30 people, it rose to about 100 people. Did MOMAN give those allocations to themselves? Did DAPPMA give those allocations to themselves? So, we all know what happened.
The consumption of petroleum today is less than 35 million liters per day based on the allocation they were given, and as we speak, there are no queues. So this goes to say that something was happening in the past.”

Bakare should read this verses of the bible that the group recommended to him.
I pity his followers.

2 Timothy 2:24 which is that "And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful."

Go and reas ur bible very well. U wil see where a prophet\priest doubled as a King. Stop displaying ur ignorance here.

As for chain or whatever they call themselves, we leave them to God, we know those who are pressed for money and seek to patronise the power that be so they can get contract. That is how a body concerned christian of nigeria put up an advert in support of the government during the fuel subsidy. I ask, where is that body today? Tunde bakare has been a voice ever since babangida days and he is still speaking. Banangida knows he is a clean man and he is nt one of those that can be bought with money, even obasanjo recognises him as such too.

Well let's see if chain will last one year, then nigerians will know who truly is a man of God and who is just doing the bidding of ruling class for monetary gain or other favour.

Politics / Woman Bags Three-month Jail Term For Begging Alms With Children by uncleb(m): 4:51pm On Aug 09, 2012
By Ekene Okoro, SNR. REPORTER, Lagos

A 40-year old woman, Jemilat Oseniwas on Thursday sentenced to three months imprisonment for begging for alms with five children in Lagos, South west, Nigeria.

Oseni, an indigene of Osun State was arrested by the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unitm at Seme Border with five children begging for alms.

She was arraigned at the Special Offences Court in Alausa, Ikeja for illegally being in possession of children not hers to beg for alms and in the process violating the rights of the children.

The age of the children ranged between nine months and 11 years. Two of the children belonged to Mrs Rainat Ado and Mrs Zainab Abubakar who released their children to the culprit to beg for alms.

Two of the remaining children were her grand children while the 11 years old child is her child.

According to them, Oseni told them that she wanted to use the children as cover up to smuggle some goods from Benin Republic, saying that with the children with her, custom officers would have pity and allow her to go.

They said the culprit usually give them few quantity of rice whenever she returned from her business.

A staff of the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) had seen the woman begging for alms with the children at Seme Border and reported the matter to the taskforce officials.

She was arraigned in court by the taskforce and convicted and sent to three months imprisonment at Kirikiri Prison, while the five children had been kept in custody of the WAPA Ministry.

Politics / Re: Pastor Bakare And Latter Rain Limited: A One Man Show ? by uncleb(m): 4:47pm On Aug 09, 2012
pokkadot:
The Pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde BAKARE is synonymous with controversy and activism. In recent times he has come his position as a pastor has come under scrutiny following his veering into politics by accepting to be the Vice Presidential candidate to Muhammed Buhari, a staunch Muslim under the umbrella of the CPC. Failure his failure in that election, Bakare had become rather aggressive, exhibiting characters unbecoming of a man of God. Many argue that PTB was simply venting his frustration and desperation for power.
The question is, if PTB is such a great man of God, if he is so loved, if people like his teachings so greatly, the question is:
i. Why has his church remained just a branch in the whole federation?
ii. Why hasn’t the church spread to other branches in Lagos or other part of the country like redeemed, Winners, Dunamis, House on the Rock, TREM, Christ Embassy etc
iii. Why is he the only pastor of the church?
iv. Is his inability to grow his church beyond one branch an indication of his failure as a pastor?
v. Is his limited membership a pointer that Nigerians don’t take him serious as a Pastor?
vi. Is he trying to make up for this failure as a pastor by going into politics?
vii. Is he trying to raise the profile of his obscure church in Lagos by constantly being in the news?
viii. If as a Pastor he can display such level of arrogance in his utterances and actions, can he respect our rights as a politician?
Objectively speaking, Can Pastor Tunde Bakare be trusted??

I guess you wanna use this post to get popular on this forum! Poor you you cant even make the front page.

Bakare has gone beyond obsucrity. He is a famous and successful person, as a clergy, barrister or if you like politician.

Way back back 2001 and 2002 even as a student pastor, i knew how many colleagues of mine that have been raised by Bakare. They are very sound when it comes to the scripture and you know what? they were very fearless.

I know how many churches today that spring froth from LRA. If you care to know Bakare encourages people to grow and go out to establish their own ministries. he is not the selfish type like you and your sponsors.

faithin9ja:

Nigerians have no right to cheap fuel. We do not provide cheap vehicles, if anything our vehicles are more expensive in Nigeria than other parts of the world, so why do think we have the right to cheap petrol?

Yes, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweal is right, majority of the mass carrying public transport in Nigeria is diesel driven, our factories run on diesel generators. The use of petrol is usually in the 'last mile' delivery. the beneficiary of cheap petrol is the guy in Lekki with 2 SUV's and Camry to take the children to school. Your poor Okada rider fills his tank with N200 or less, total removal of subsidy will raise this to N350!!

Yes prices will go up, but they will level out. anytime there is an increase in fuel costs, transporters in particular 'double' their prices, but in truth this doesn't last long. A 'hiace bus' carrying 15 passengers full tank rises from N2500 to N4000 does not have to increase the charge per passenger from N150 to N300 to cover the difference. The transporters soon learn this lessen when there is drop in passenger numbers.

What a dumb argument, this is very ridiculous. Certainly, if you are not one of the 40 laptops, then you are benefiting one way or the other from the government. You postulations are anti-people and spirit of the masses will not forgive you.

Who told you Nigerians don't have a right to cheap fuel? Did you do Economics? Is a basket of pepper sold the same price in Lagos and the North? Will you buy a He goat "Agbo" for same price in Niger and Lagos. What makes the difference? Cant you think right for once?

A sensible and people oriented government would think about how to fix our refineries and produce our consumptions locally than continue to import, What gave birth to subsidy in the first place, is it not corruption? Did you listen to Prof West(former petroleum Minister) debate in January during the subsidy removal crisis. Oga please stop annoying us

On your argument that public transport vehicles are diesel driven and factories run diesel generators, please can you compare transport fares in Lagos before and after subsidy removal and tell this house your findings? For your information, I spend over N300 above what i used to spend pre January 1 on transport to my office now. Lets not talk about the prices of food stuff and other essential commodities. Do you think everybody have access to free money like you.

Finally, you claimed that transporters will drop price as patronage drop, so people will be tracking form sango, ogba, ikeja etc to CMS abi or you have provided alternative means of transportation for them?

Politics / Jonathan: I Can Rule Beyond 8 Years by uncleb(m): 12:52pm On Jul 24, 2012
Nigeria President has declared that he has the right to rule more than eight years in office. Recently, he stated that its too early to declare his stance on 2015 during his presidential media chat. But based on his claim below, every reasonable Nigerian should be able to read their president's mindset. Please read full details below.

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday affirmed that his stay in office could legally go beyond eight years under certain conditions.

Jonathan told an Abuja High Court hearing a suit against his alleged 2015 re-election bid. Jonathan while responding in a suit asking the court to declare him ineligible to run for re-election because that would extend his tenure beyond the maximum eight years provided by the constitution, given that he took over as President in May 2010 after the death of then-President Yar’Adua.

The case was filed by Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant, Mr Cyriacus Njoku, on March 20 seeking the determination of section 135 (2) and 137 (1) of the Constitution which limit presidential tenure to maximum of two terms of four years each.

Njoku is asking the court to determine whether in spite of these provisions President Jonathan can seek re-election and take a third oath of office having already taken oaths twice, first on May 6, 2010 after Yar’Adua’s death and then on May 29, 2011 after the general elections.

Yesterday, while arguing the substantive motion, counsel to Njoku, Mr Ugochukwu Osuagwu, cited the Supreme Court decision in January on General Buba Marwa and INEC where it held that no elected person can stay in office beyond an initial term of four years. This was the ruling that affected the tenure of the five governors who won re-run elections in 2008.

But counsel to Jonathan, Mr Kenechukwu Nomeh, who represented Mr Ade Okeaya-Inneh (SAN), argued that under section 315 (3) of the constitution, a president could stay in office for additional time beyond his tenure in certain circumstances.

“The tenure of occupant of an office can be extended by the National Assembly for six months in following conditions: when the nation is at war and in situation of death of the occupant of the office which applies to President Jonathan,” he said.

Also citing the decision of the Supreme Court on Ojukwu and Obasanjo in 2004, Nomeh argued that section 137 (1) (d) contemplated a “person elected into office twice” not by appointment into same office though both entails oath taking.

He urged the court to dismiss the suit for being incompetent and premature.

Also in its counter affidavit, the PDP represented by Mr I. C. Paul argued that under section 137 of the constitution, Jonathan was only elected once into office in April 2011 and still “has the right to contest for a fresh term if he so wishes.”

Earlier, Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi overruled an objection by Jonathan and the PDP that a certain newspaper publication is not a sufficient cause of action. The publication in question, marked Exhibit VRA 1, is the Punch newspaper of March 16, 2012, which contained a statement credited to the Jonathan’s spokesman Reuben Abati alluding to the President’s intention to seek re-election.
Oniyangi also upheld the submission of Mr Njoku that the suit being a constitutional matter, he needed not show evidence of sufficient interest as locus standi to institute the action.
October 18, has been fixed for next judgement, considering that the annual vacation of the FCT High Court begins on August 6.

Can you give us the details why EFCC invited you, and you were able to buy your way through? I reckon you are not writing from the kirikiri.

Secondly, am amazed at your submission that that is the correct syntax used by all law enforcement agencies. You see this is the only reason why our nation is not moving forward. Someone set a wrong standard (in the name of letter templates) decades ago, its wrong yet nobody can wake up to the challenge to correct it. Can someone please help us with a template being used by FBI and lets take a clue? You are inviting someone for interrogation and you said he is the one to interview you.

Ok, I agree, I suppose the discussion went like this on TB (Tunde Bakare) arrival;

TB: May i know why you ask me to come?
SSS: I was directed to invite you
TB: By who?
SSS: JEG
TB: Ok, so what can i do for you?
SSS: Please let me ask.
TB: Ask who?
SSS: JEG
TB: Ok go ahead
SSS: Hmm u see, we are not happy the way u talk about our presi
TB: So waht exactly is ur demand?
SSS: We want you to soft pedal
TB: Why?
SSS: You are heating up the polity
TB: So what if i dont?
SSS: Let me ask oga what will happen
TB:okay
SSS: its too early to announce that for political reason
TB: Ok, can i take my leave?
SSS: Yes, but one more thing
TB: And what is that
SSS: You said there would be an election before 2015
TB: oh yes, you are very correct
SSS: Please what can we do to avert that?

Politics / Re: GEJ Vows To End Theft Of Crude Oil by uncleb(m): 9:58am On Jul 24, 2012
Uncle Jona,

Please, what we want from you is a to declare war against corruption in all ramification, and not just oil theft which is just one segment.

The truth is that, you cannot fight oil theft if other faces of corruption is not dealt with.

And if you must fight corruption, then ensure your hands are clean and those of your cabinet members, and no sacred cow, even if na your wify or your party chairman
