Family / Patience Wumi: Is It Too Much To Ask For Clean Restrooms In Nigeria? by unveil(f): 11:22am On Feb 05, 2016
Let’s talk about something dirty. Before your mind goes to the gutter, this is about public toilets.
I try to avoid public toilets because the thought of random people sharing that same space as me grosses me out. We all have different biology and anatomy, different fluids and excretions, and different habits and mannerisms. Therefore, I prefer to use the bathrooms in my house where I am familiar with the other people who use them. However, when nature calls, sometimes I have to use public restrooms.

My travels have taught me a lesson when it comes to public toilets: always have your own tissue with you! I have traveled around the world to some dodgy places and even some glam places where the toilets did not have toilet paper so I have learned to always carry my own. There is nothing more irritating than using the toilet and realizing that there is no tissue or wet wipes to clean up. I stay prepared!

I spent the holiday period in Nigeria as an “I just got back (IJGB)” and had a great time as always. Traffic, heat, food, fuel scarcity and whatever else IJGBs typically complain about do not bother me much. It is all part of my homely experience. Nonetheless, please permit me to have my one IJGB complaint that surprisingly many people fail to talk about. The public restroom situation in Nigeria is terrible. Horrible. Gross. I can’t shout, but it sucks!

I suspect that many Nigerians are accustomed to how bad the situation is so they plan accordingly. I also have to do the same whenever I am in Nigeria. There are insufficient public restrooms. For example, a market woman works all day in the heat and has to go in the corner of a stall to do the deed. If she is lucky, there might be a concealed toilet in the market but I cannot imagine the condition of that toilet. Not okay.

I recall a few years back seeing disturbing pictures of toilets at NYSC camps. Definitely not okay. All over Lagos you see men of all ages urinating by the road. Men are lucky because they can effectively pee standing up. Still not okay.

In Lagos, I have entered many establishments like restaurants and banks and their restrooms are not up to standard. For instance, you will go to a nice restaurant and their toilet will still leave you with much to be desired. A toilet is a necessity. Should a proper upkeep not be equally considered when developing and managing an establishment?

I cannot simply always wait until I get home to use the toilet and I should not have to. In the US, I can guarantee that most places I go to will have a toilet that is at least satisfactory (although some are also disgusting). Therefore, my bladder is not something that I really think about when I am in the US like I have to in Nigeria. I am one of those people that drink a glass of water and have to pee. Therefore, when I go out in Nigeria I result to drinking a lot less, which can lead to dehydration, because I do not want to hold my pee for long or feel dirty because I used the toilet.

I am writing this complaint for the men and women who are constantly hustling outside, people with bladder issues, and generally everyone who has to deal with the toilet situation. In 2016, even in some houses the landlord will not provide a standard toilet for their tenants. There are major problems the country is facing, but this toilet situation is one that we can easily work together to improve. It is time to make clean and usable toilets a standard in our society.

It is time to hold landlords, businesses and government accountable to keep us feeling safe and clean. Rich or poor, when nature calls we all have to abide. I cannot be the only one that is aware of this problem or have had bad toilet experiences. Let’s speak up and demand better.

Babe.. i'm sorry but this is not entirely true. I mean... maybe you haven't seen the better part of your Country.

Please where are these better parts with clean toilets?

I dare you to give me an address of ONE establishment with clean toilets in LAGOS.

Do I have to travel across states to locate these rare finds?

I do not intend to embarrass anyone, truth is if we don't talk about these ills we can never change them.

So once again what "better part of the country" do I have to travel to to find clean toilets?

Virtually all bathrooms in this country are only good for dead and rotten swine

Why do you guys tolerate so much filth?

All public institutions have horrid bathrooms, almost all banks, universities, hospitals, supermarket... malls

Even so called high end restaurants in Victoria Island only have Toilets befitting for PIGS

All fast-foods in Lagos have insanely filthy toilets

Yet you see people with Iphones and ladies with 100k weaves calmly walking into these death holes and coming out in relief

No wonder most have zero self esteem

Guys do you know you deserve better?

Do you actually recognize you are humans and not cattle?

Please always ask for the Manager to report toilets in deplorable states.

This is not normal guys. Building toilets are not expensive, You just have to ask.

I have come to the realization that ALL of the black man's problem stems from a deep-seethed hate of his fellow brothers.

Africans/Nigerians are addicted to hating their own ; this includes their neighbours, children, employees, co-workers just about every one that looks like them

Ingrained deep inside the psyche of the Nigerian, is a little devil that seeks blood, he yearns to hurt his brother, he loves to see his own suffer. He falls instantly ill on the sight of his brother's success

All over the world it’s the same thing. Go to Germany, all over Europe, the same story.

An African starts a small business after years of struggle, what happens? His brother, dark skinned like him, looks for every way possible to destroy his efforts, he secretly blackmails him or sends fuzzy reports to the authorities, he hardly patronizes him but still wonders why he is poor and excluded by the wider society.

The Nigerian will NEVER support their own. They actually hate their own with a deep deep passion.
Why do you guys not recognize this? Why can you not see that all your problems- poverty, filth, no -light, illness, mental instability comes from your huge sadistic desire to see your own fail?

Why do you try to deny this when left, right, center every black skinned human is doing this same evil.

On Nairaland you are unable to pretend to hide your evil beastly nature

Do you know that you sold your own to slaves?
This hatred did not start in 1960, it started hundreds of years ago.
Are you incapable of love of your own? Can you not see, each one of you are the cause of your ill lot?
Why don’t you support local businesses? Why go for Kellogs and laugh at those who buy Nasco, don’t you realize supporting local businesses do more in increasing your potential to be rich?

Why does your heart sink in bleeding pain when your brother gets a new job or buys a new car?

You say Christian. Christ what?

Do you know you all act like children of the devil himself?

You are so so so sos so so so so so so so WICKED to one another ..It is amazing.
Look there is NO SINGLE NIGERIAN MALE OR FEMALE in this country who would not do EXACTLY what the military officials and Daskui did, cup out all the money meant to make the lives of their fellow brothers more humane. It’s just that you haven’t been given the opportunity to display your devilish skills of hate yet.

But seriously guys, do you think you are different from Dasuki?

How do you treat the weak around you - gateman, sub-ordinates, domestic staff?
Do you pay them on time even when you could?
Do you give way for motorists to change lanes when driving? Or do you squeeze your face, tighten your grip and hoard the steer wheel?
Do pay back money lent to you as promised/when due?
Do you steal (take any money outside your monthly pay) from you place of employment?
Do you bloat expenses and retire with forged receipts?
Do you make extra lanes on the road?
Do you find yourselves excited to join groups who seem well to do, even when you know the source of this wealth is illegitimate?

Are we a cursed race of people?
Why are we incapable of love?
Why are we so blind to our own evil ways?
I cannot understand this.

Please guys tell me, what happened to blacks/Africans that make us so hateful to one another?
Other races could be to themselves to some degree but ours transcends to much more profound levels
Why can’t we control our urge to hate? We can’t even pretend.

Is it because we hate ourselves so damn much?

@ Op, people who hold your views have gone beyond being closeted homosexuals, they are full blown homosexuals or homosexual promoters! It is attitudes like this that gave homosexuals the impetus to overun America and Europe. They tag all opponents against their despicable life style closeted homosexuals with a view to scaring people away from opposing them. It is childish really.

Look at you trumpeting the BIG SINS of others?

It feels damn good right?

A little superiority mind thing going on in you head ey??

Feels oh so good to point out the immoral acts of OTHERS!

Let me guess, they are going to hell, while you Dinachi will glide straight to heaven?

Perhaps because you come from the ideal tribe? Or because you are Nigerian? and Go to church on Sundays?

DO you self-service? I mean masturbate?

Is that a lesser sin? Do you fornicate? opps sorry, much lesser sin!

If i slipped a camera in your belt and followed you for one month recording very minute detail (as God does anyway) would you say you live better than these BAD SINFUL IMMORAL HOMOSEXUAL DEVILS?

I guess you would. TYPICAL Christian, Totally, blind and completed clueless to his own sins:

1. Unfailing addiction to pornography of drugged trafficked women (at the point of cum do you remember your sinful homosexual brother?)
2. Unrelenting masturbation cycles
3. Sex outside marriage.

You better focus inwardly on your own salvation and stop trying to point out the ills of others

KNOW WHY?

The more you point at others, the more your own sins ARE MAGNIFIED at the sight of God.

But if you are sinless, then no problem.

Family / The Unspoken Truth: Why Women Hate Each Other So Damn Much by unveil(f): 12:24pm On Aug 19, 2015
I ask myself this same question almost every day. This women-on-women hate is rife all around us. It’s glaring, almost blinding. Recall Eve deceived Adam, and was cursed. It was the same demon acting in her then. Women at the very depth of their core are actually deviant and depraved. They are very very very evil and God the creator knows this. They cannot bear, cannot stand, cannot fathom, cannot stomach the thought of another female being better than them. They are unredeemable bitter lots, blinded by envy and decapitated by hate. This is the exact reason why they are and will forever be second place. If women ruled the world, it would have long seized to be.

The bible says one of the ways women can remedy their abominable nature that caused the fall of the whole of human kind is to raise good children, how much evidence of this do we have today? Nigerian women are of another species all together. I am a woman and am aware of my nature. Many women are not self -aware, they are dead to self, and are unconscious about who they are or how they act. Many women are actually convinced that other women are actually the problem, no one ever bothers to looks inwards, as in their eyes they are faultless.

The first step to redemption is acknowledging this horrid truth about the fundamental nature of the female folk. Being conscious of self and keeping guard to shut down these vile behaviors once they begin to manifest, and manifest they must.

Look left, look right, and outside your window are the evidence of women consumed by their evil nature, they are no longer in control, they are now ruled by their weaknesses and as a result, there is no limit to where evil can take them. No remorse, just pure undiluted nastiness spewing from the deep core of their souls. This is the story of the women folk as i have so thoroughly observed.

Can someone please explain to me why people (especially girls) keep taking airplane food out of the aircraft? Aero, Medview, First nation and a couple other airlines always serve with some kind of 'take-awa' pack, but should people have to take these packs away out of the airplane like uncultured men, carrying them about the airplane like they are some party gifts? angry angry

Antoinne you are absolutely right it is unfathomable and flat out ludicrous. The reason why you get so much hormonal retorts for speaking the truth is because this site "nairaland'' is populated by a certain demographic of 'youthful’ Nigerians who have very limited and (i am afraid) rather crude outlook to life. Logic and reason are not very common themes down here. Most are youths out of school seeking jobs, you wouldn’t find sound wisdom here, just the really rough and raw bunch.

There is even a more dire case of this 'food theft syndrome" (FTS) in the corporate world. I am talking fortune 500 status multinational companies here in Nigeria. These guys drive in the latest SUVS using high tech smart gadgets and all, but still get tragically obsessed with packing out remnants of meeting meals.

I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME UNDERSTAND THIS FCKN DISEASE!!! Is it greed or what?

These guys all earn six digit monthly salaries but always feel compelled to hang around the corridor, lurking and checking to see if the management meeting has ended so that they can briskly grasp onto the unwrapped moin-moin, rice, sweets , slap them all in a bag and take home.

Perhaps it is the corruption gene in its infancy? What say you?

Are you a Nigerian parent? Please Please Please stop destroying the future of your children in the name of "African Culture".

Again and again I am seeing the outcome of our parents’ overly strict, utterly abusive and insanely oppressive parenting style all around me. 10 - 20 violent lashes, the scolding, ‘shut up when your elders are talking’, 1 2 3 knocks on the head for not walking fast enough zero encouragement and the ultimate esteem killer – constant berating in front of friends. This continues from age 3 well into the formative years then finally into teenage life and at this point the entire prospects and potential is destroyed to pieces.

A few years down the line the kids grow into youth, youths with zero self-esteem, confidence and worth. Worthless to the society in where they live and even more useless to the organization they find themselves. They struggle in the workplace to meet up with their peers who had parents that encouraged speaking out, questioning, probing, confronting authority, being inquisitive and adventurous all within a less practiced practice of ‘beastic discipline’.

You will never find such docile employees at the top of the career pyramid, they really never make it that far, because the higher you go the more expressive and bold you are expected to be.
If you are observant enough and go head to track these unfortunate lot (which by the way makes up about 90% of the youth population) you see them finally morphing into:
1. Depressed dads who beat, threaten and god over their wives
2. Viciously vile moms who only know how to whip death into child slaves

If you are a young Nigerian boy or girl working in a renowned multinational but harboring the following attributes (which sometimes appear in yearly appraisal feedback):
• He is always shy to contribute in group conversations neither does he strive to participate in off group activities
• He never questions his superiors
• He is neither innovative nor assertive
• He is hopelessly docile and subservient (not good for 21st century corporate world)
• He has low energy and is never disciplined with time.
• He is overtly superstitious
• Limited cognition

You need to first recognize all those early years of abuse by your parents have dire consequences; you may be able to cram your way into big league firms but remaining relevant would require a total personality transplant.

It is because as black people, particularly black Africans, we are insanely cold-hearted and extremely power drunk. That is why we would always be related to the lower echelons of the race pyramid. When you offer a typical Nigerian male of female a little power, they go insane, looking for the vulnerable lot to devour oppress and denigrate. This is our forte and exactly why nemesis continues to linger around us.

We cower at authority but bloat up to beast like brutes when confronting women, the elderly and the poor. Look around you, the evidence in all spilled in black and white, the evidence of our insatiable thirst for violence, hate and revenge is all around us.

Our black skin = dark hearted-ness, its driven deep inside our chromosomes and gene structure, it appears to be part of our biological make-up, I say this because this evil act is quite rife and widespread in our society. I do not know why this is so, but I do recognise and have observed what you likewise have observed.

I have only recently just come to the realization that men who are extremely homophobic (detest gays to an insatiable state, will kill if given the opportunity, cannot converse about the subject without being livid, constantly thrumps bible passages) are actually of three types:

Closet gay - Seriously fighting the urges and is bemused at how close he is to becoming gay-like the very many Nigerian males who were molested by teachers/relatives/peers and have grown up to find gay p.orn highly satisfying. This group would easily get aroused by a slight non-sexual male gesture like a 'bro-back-slap' or a 'hi-5. They are weak and are slaves to their secretly locked lustful desires

Closet p.edophiles transitioning to closet gays - This group of homophobs are addicted to privates that are ultra tight and possibly sealed (e.g. Virginfinder here on Nairaland) they are likely closet p.edophiles who are only a.roused by minors

Some how these savages believe that if they quote bible passages on Sodom and Gomorrah, stamp their fist on the wall in protest to all things gay, or burn one on a stake, they will absolve themselves of those piercing gay urges that just never seem to go away. But it doesn't work that way folks.

You should not condemn others, when you are no saint yourselves. Don you get it? If you constantly chastise this group, you- a potential gay Nigerian would also be chastised!

Healthy criticism and a tamed expression of disapproval will do just fine but bloodlust tantrums and a call to burn is both diabolic and hypocritical.

Family / Why Are Most Nigerian Women Brutally Abusive? What's Causing This? by unveil(f): 10:01am On Jan 08, 2015
There is something I have noticed amongst my fellow Nigerian females and it is not good. There appears to be a 'sleeping beast' within the hearts of many women of my country . Do you know why this is? What has created this trait? Who has the answer?

I'll like to know why so many women between the ages of 25 - 70 are so evil? When I write evil i mean thoroughly unempathetic, vile and just plain wicked. Why do we set out to employ kids as nannies and domestic staff? Why women? Why Why Why? Why do you do this? Even if everyone is doing it, it still does not make it right! Why is our conscience all but dead? Why do you employ these kids (ages 7 - 17) , and turn them into slaves? Beat them to stupor, relay them to the boot of your SUV on the journey from church to home, allow our kids perpetually belittle them, screeeeeaaaaaam all the time, damn iv seen too much. I am almost in tears. cry cry cry cry cry

I asked a wise man once, and he said ''many women grew up under tension, violence, poverty and hate and the ripple effect is what we see today". Is this true? But the essence of being higher animals is to be able to grow past our past, take learnings and be more useful members of society.

The God we worship detests this type of evil the most. Perhaps this is the reason why Nigeria is amongst the few countries sitting on the so called Infertility belt of Africa.

The whole idea behind religion is to live in love, and extend love to others. What this means in practical terms is to live a life of selflessness, kindness and tolerance. You will agree with me that these three attributes are almost extinct in this part of the world.

Now here is the truth. God dwells with what lies within and not your exterior, man's external acts and actions only set out to impress no one else but man, what you do behind closed doors, and the motives you harbor in the depths of your mind/heart/consciousness is what God would judge you on. You are who you are when no one is looking.

Another truth is cause and effect. I need your ears here, I'll say again, the universal law of circulation .i.e. every thought, actions, motive, words that come out of you will result in an almost perfect reaction. The consequence of your past is what you are experiencing today and your actions today will bring forth your future realities. This is inescapable.

Nigeria's incredibly pathetic state is a clear reflection of the collective consequence of our individual actions. But fortunately, love cures all, but love in these parts is dead. No one gives a hoot about the next person. Our churches do not preach the love God seeks, our pastors do not try to make the connection between helping the poor, elderly, defenseless, sick, destitute and individual prosperity.

A huge majority of Nigerians live a double life, lying, cheating, bribing, adultery, lustfulness, hate, jealousy intolerance, addiction and the BIG ONE- pedophilia etc while professing the cloak of Christianity. This is blasphemy, and an outright mockery of God, it is better to be free of religion than sustain a painfully sinful life .
