MTN Users Option 1. To link your NIN with your MTN phone number, carry out the following steps: Visit https://mtnonline.com/nim/ using your phone or computer Complete the NIN linking form by entering your name, phone number, NIN and email address. Submit the form as soon as you’re done. Wait from feedback from the network in a couple of days. Option 2 To link your your NIN with your MTN SIM using USSD, follow the steps below: Dial *785# using the MTN you wish to perform the linking on. Type 1 for “Enter your 11-digit NIN” and send. Enter your 11-digit NIN and send. Wait for the network to give a confirmation of your submission. You may get a message saying “Network error.” Don’t panic if you do! Just wait for some time and try it again. Airtel Users To link your NIN to your Airtel phone number, follow the steps below: Dial *121# on the Airtel line you wish to link. Type 1 for “NIN Capture” and send Enter your 11-digit NIN and send. Wait for the message confirming your submission. If you get an error, just wait for some time and try again. Other networks (Glo and 9mobile) For now, Glo and 9Mobile have not commenced sim linking with NIN. As soon as they commence, we will update this post to reflect the steps you must follow to carry out the linking. However, to get yourself ready to be able to carry out the linking of your NIN with your phone number here’s what you must do: Visit any NIMC office near you and apply for your National Identity Card if you haven’t Register and obtain your temporary ID slip which will contain your NIN Keep your NIN details in a safe place so that you’ll be able to provide them when necessary. What if you forgot your NIN and don’t have the slip? If you don’t know your NIN, just dial *346# on the SIM card you registered with the National Identity Management Centre (NIMC). MTN Nigeria has added 3 new network prefixes to its preexisting 10, which brings the tally to 13. On the 11th of March, 2020, MTN Nigeria added the network prefixes, 0704, 07025, 07026 to its Network. The prefixes, which were formerly for visafone numbers were launched 3 years after the acquisition of visafone by MTN Nigeria. As Number ranges get exhausted, new ones are unveiled. For instance, when “0803” and “0806” numbers got exhausted around 2009, MTN Nigeria unveiled the 0813 Numbering range Therefore, with the emergence of the new network prefixes, potential subscribers can purchase their new MTN lines, and opt for which of the three prefixes they prefer. For subscribers that are unsure of which Network Prefix is peculiar to MTN Nigeria, Geeky Nigeria has compiled a comprehensive list of their Network Prefixes. MTN Nigeria’s Mobile Phone Network Prefixes 07025 The “07025” prefix was formerly associated with the now defunct Visafone. MTN Nigeria acquired Visafone in late December 2015. 07026 The prefix was for the defunct Visafone, which was acquired by MTN Nigeria. 0703 One of MTN Nigeria’s pioneering Network prefixes. It was launched in 2007, after they acquired the Unified Access license. 0704 A Network prefix formerly used by defunct Visafone, which MTN Nigeria acquired. 0706 One of the first network prefixes used by MTN. It was rolled in after “0803” and “0806”. 0803 MTN Nigeria started commercial operations via the 0803 prefix in 2001. It was the first to be used by the Network. 0806 The second network prefix used by MTN Nigeria after “0803”. It was launched in 2005. 0810 MTN Nigeria launched the “0810” prefix in 2011. According to their tweet, they did so to give more power to 50 Million Nigerians. 0813 The prefix was unveiled in 2009, after MTN Nigeria exhausted the “0803” and “0806” prefix. 0814 “0814” was introduced in December 2012. 0816 The prefix was launched in December 2009.
