Romance / Forbidden Romance - Why Some Fathers Are Involved Romantically With Their Daught by Wearabletech: 11:33am On Oct 11, 2020 |
Is it normal for a father to be romantically involved with his daughters An incest taboo is any traditional or cultural tenet that forbids sexual relations between closely related individuals. Universally, human cultures have norms that forbid erotic or conjugal affairs between blood relations. According to Wikipedia, ‘’the incest taboo is one of the most widespread of all cultural taboos, both in present and in past societies.’’ Some of these sexual affairs are consensual and others aren’t. Incest taboo persists in spite of it being widely condemned; headlines always resurface. ‘’Schoolgirl, 13, dies giving birth ‘to her dad’s baby’ after years of sexual abuse’’. This happened in Brazil and was reported by mirror.com on 30th December 2019. After the delivery, complications were detected. The teenage girl died en route an airlift to a specialist hospital in Manaus 225 miles away (363km). On Aug 5, 2018, a disturbing story was published on nairaland.com about a man who allegedly had carnal knowledge of his 16-year-old daughter at Yimi village in Zuba, Gwagwalada Area Council in the FCT, Nigeria. A similar story published on the 8th of July, 2019 by allafrica.com, of a father who impregnated his daughter and forced her into having an abortion. According to Premium Times, he had drugged her food when she was just 10 years old and subsequently raped her. Afterward, he raped her habitually and eventually turned her into his sex slave. These, amongst others, are just the few that make it to the news including unpopular, isolated cases of mother-child incest. There are numerous undiscovered incidents and cover-ups by spouses, families, and households. Now, one wonders why fathers, who are supposed to symbolize stability, protection, provision, and guidance would be the ones involved in such acts. That brings us to this. I agree wholeheartedly, but, we know Nigerians can be sloppy with their health . ggirl4real: |
Education / Why You Shouldn't Share A Fabric Face Masks by Wearabletech: 10:17am On Sep 14, 2020 |
No! Not even with a trusted person. In Nigeria, the government made it compulsory to put on a face mask in public places or risk a sanction. Shockingly, despite over 50,000 cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria, a lot of Nigerians still doubt its existence. Some even use it to mock political office holders who are regular health tourists. I encountered a pathetic situation recently. I boarded an autorickshaw (tricycle) to the market. To my surprise, I saw a tricycle driver, two lanes away, hand over a used cloth face mask to a passenger who had none to avoid being harassed by police officers who were just a few yards away conducting a road check. Before I could say Jack Robinson, the lady already had the mask on. It was the dumbest and most disgusting thing I saw that week. I decided to take advantage of the traffic to reach out and admonish her. She dismissed me with a wave of her hand and mumbled something in Hausa which is interpreted as, ‘dont lecture me about the disease of the rich. I still tried to get to talk to her before the traffic eased up. The experience was revealing to me. It exposed the information gap and the fact that people are oblivious to their vulnerabilities. A contaminated mask is a potential risk for disease spread. Therefore, your cloth face masks should never be shared. Most importantly, be sure to discard a mask that has become less protective. How to care for your cloth facemask? Viruses and other pathogens can be suspended as aerosols. Droplets are the medium through which the virus is spread from person to person. Dr. Steve Pergam, MPH, medical director of infection prevention at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance affirms this to be true. More so, if a nearby person inhales these dews or they get in contact with their mouth or nose, the chances of contracting a pathogen is fairly high. If a person touches a contaminated mask then proceeds to touch their mouth or nose, they might also potentially contract an infection. Therefore, your mask(s) should be cleaned and sanitized regularly. Here are a few tips to safely disinfect common types of masks for reuse during the pandemic. It also includes ways you can handle medical-grade masks that cant easily be cleaned as it should be outside of a medical setting. Washing your cloth face mask with a washing machine always wash your hands before touching household items such as the washing machine Carefully remove your cloth face mask, ensure you dont touch your eyes, nose, or mouth afterwards especially after touching the filter surface. Add your regular laundry detergent along with bleach as applicable. Use warm water when possible or as recommended for the fabric type. Throw the mask straight into the washing machine. Once youre done and the mask is laundered, dry on high heat until its completely dry. Hand washing your cloth face mask Follow the same procedure as earlier explained with donning your cloth face mask. Getting rid of the pathogens is just as simple, simply Soak your cloth face mask in a 1:6 bleach solution (1 portion of household bleach to 6 portions of water ) for at-least 10 minutes. Subsequently, rinse thoroughly with clean water. Expose your washed cloth mask to sunlight and allow the mask to air-dry. Bonus tip: How to handle medical-grade masks You probably know that surgical grade masks are disposable. In other words, should be discarded after every use. However, only if properly disinfected and with the right tool, the masks can be reused in specialized settings. For instance, FFP2, N95, and KN95 masks can all be disinfected by UVC germicidal irradiation or vapor phase hydrogen peroxide. However, its important to note that, no tests have been performed on surgical mask disinfection or reuse, as the demand for such is pretty low. Other things to note while using a cloth face mask Its now common practice to use masks for longer than normal. In such cases, especially when you cant replace your mask between tasks, taking breaks to inspect your mask is essential. More importantly, the inspection should be sustained when you take it off. If you wear a lot of makeup, using a facemask would increase the amount of moisture on your face. This will make the mask dirty, torn, or saturated with moisture. When this happens, its advisable to dispose the mask. If your masks appear clean and intact, then, you can store it in a clean paper bag or other breathable container between use. Note: ensure not to let the two surfaces come in contact. Normally, disposable face masks should NOT be reused. Bonus 2: How to handle your face shield In June 2020, the Nigerian Centre for Disease control (NCDC) in one of its Press releases, briefed Nigerians on the safety measures to adopt. NCDC confirmed that more and more people in the country now resort to using face shields, in place of face masks, as they become more widely available. Face shields, like the facemask, provide some protection against droplets but are not totally dependable. You must always use your facemask alongside your face shield. By design, it is open on the sides, so you still risk getting infected as it doesnt provide protection from sneezes or coughs behind you. However, you must always clean your face shield. To that, here are a few tips to be mindful of: Wash your hands for at least 20seconds or use alcohol hand rubs. Using a clean cloth or handkerchief soaked with your regular detergent or soap, wipe down the inside first. Do the same on the reverse side. Wipe down the outside using a disinfectant wipe or clean wet cloth soaked with a disinfectant solution. Sun dry or allow the face shield to air-dry. Lastly, wash your hands when youre done. The bottom line Face masks when used properly and in combination with a face shield are an important way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other pathogens. Surgical face masks provide protection in a single use, though it can be cleaned or discarded after use. Cloth face masks might not be 100% effective, nonetheless, when used properly, can reduce your chances of contracting germs. The filtering surface should be made of at least 3 layers of filters. Since its reusable, it should be sanitized by laundering it. Health experts maintain that cloth face masks, bandanas, scarves, and neck gaiters are all types of face masks can be cleaned and reused. The term “open relationship” is sometimes used as an alternative expression for “polyamory” or “polyamorous relationship”. Open relationship or non-exclusive relationship refers to non-monogamous relationships where sexual commitment is not made to just one, primary partner. Another school of thought defines it to be ONE OF the forms of non-monogamous relationships. Under this description, polyamory and open relationships are different and not one under the other. Well, I heard this thing about Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) previously known as Multiple Personality Disorder, is the existence of at least two distinct or split identities otherwise known as personality states. DID is usually a result of severe abuse or trauma. In a sense, it involves experiencing a disconnection between thoughts, memories, surroundings, actions, and identity. They may behave childish and stuck in childhood too. This is quite different from a personality disorder in which sufferers have a stiff and unnatural pattern of thinking, functioning and behaving. Psychologically, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is often mistaken to be a personality disorder. This has since been deemed an inappropriate way to address DID sufferers. It’s considered offensive to use the term Multiple personality disorder (MPD). However, more awareness is necessary as people living with this debatable disorder are often thought to be possessed, childish, liars, or crazy. Worse still, philosophers, scholars, scientists, psychiatrists, and clinicians do not agree on its existence. Have you ever wondered why some people you thought to be healthy commits suicide? Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) previously known as Multiple Personality Disorder, is the existence of at least two distinct or split identities otherwise known as personality states. DID is usually a result of severe abuse or trauma. In a sense, it involves experiencing a disconnection between thoughts, memories, surroundings, actions, and identity. This is quite different from a personality disorder in which sufferers have a stiff and unnatural pattern of thinking, functioning and behaving. The root of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is believed to be severe and prolonged trauma experienced during childhood, including emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. For Eka, my friend, she had several admissions in the ER due to several suicide attempts. One time she had a deep cut on her left shoulder. It involved a major vein close to the jugular vein. During an assessment, she had told the clerking physician that she slipped and hit her head on the edge of a kitchen sink. As usual, her explanation was incongruent with regard to the nature of the cut. The psychiatrist had to use verbal repetition and mental images to direct her thoughts in an attempt to help her recall how the injury occurred. Another alter known as Anthony narrated his experience, after being diagnosed with DID when he was around 22 years. It was after a second suicide attempt, having disassociated, and only remembering a fragment or two before waking up in the hospital. Now 36, he couldn’t keep a day job or own a business. He talked about how he was arrested several times by the cops and taken to a mental health ward as an “imminent threat to self and others”. He was deemed dangerous. He recalled how he was an abuser of skunk and amphetamine. Tony narrated how many psychologists he met who didn’t believe in his condition, only regarding it as an excuse to be hooked on prescription drugs. Does it sound right? *Ditch that underwear* Going commando simply means not wearing any underwear – silly to some, sexy to others. More and more people of both sexes are forgoing their underwear for comfort, health, or clothing appearance – the Visible Panty Line struggle. However, this shouldn’t deter those who sell or manufacture underwear. The decision to wear or not to wear comes down to your predilection. In my second year in college, I was on board a hummer bus alongside a bunch of schoolmates. We were returning from a wild sophomore party and I was excited as a pretty coursemate whom I had a crush on came along. The bus was literally intoxicating – you could get drunk from peoples breath. I sat facing my crush. She was wearing loose short and when the bus swerved to avoid bad spots, her shorts swerved along. That was when I noticed she had a bare bum beneath those shorts. Health / Feminine Hygiene | The Cost And Who's Paying? by Wearabletech: 10:42am On Aug 03, 2020 |
What has changed about feminine hygiene over the years? Throughout history, feminine hygiene has remained an interesting yet delicate subject. In 2019, the world’s population was put at 7.674 billion people, with 3.763 billion being born with female Instruments. It is almost inevitable that these individuals have, or will have a period in which the uterus sheds mucosal tissue together with blood through the vagina. A recent encounter challenged my mastery feminine hygiene. A cousin who turned 21 in May jokingly inquired if females could become pregnant without sexual intercourse. I was momentarily stunned and answered, "No" even though there's such a thing as cryptic pregnancy. Being a nurse, I recognised a health seeking behaviour so I probed further. I realised that the physical, medical, financial and psychological burden beneath her awkward smile never crossed my mind. It happened that she did not have her period for a few months and she insisted she had not engaged in any sexual activity. So I thought, clinically, she can’t be pregnant. I took a closer look at her and saw that she had developed signs of hysterical pregnancy. The cessation of her period had imposed immense stress on her and her hormones were out of sync. Hysterical pregnancies are rare and often resemble pregnancy in every way, except the presence of a baby. In all cases, the woman is absolutely certain that she is pregnant. I called for a comprehensive laboratory investigation which included venereal disease test, pregnancy test, HVS culture and sensitivity, blood count and malaria test. She tested negative to all except malaria and a high yield of germs after the culture. Growth of harmful bacteria can lead to an infection when in contact with the genital tract. Altogether, this could result to a variation in the pH of vaginal secretions which further leads to a change in vaginal flora. Health / How To Use Water Therapy For Weight Loss by Wearabletech: 6:17pm On Jul 26, 2020 |
Ever heard of water therapy? Water therapy otherwise known as hydrotherapy is a broad term that implies the use of water, both internally and externally at varying temperatures, to promote health and wellness. Water therapy/hydrotherapy includes treatments as saunas, steam baths, foot baths, contrast therapy, hot and cold showers employed in alternative medicine by Occupational therapists, and Physiotherapists. To date, the Japanese are known to gulp several glasses of room-temperature water in the morning. This practice is a popular Japanese routine used in the treatment of constipation, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, cancer and also serves as a weight loss remedy. Water therapy as an inexpensive but seemingly unpopular weight loss regimen has no scientific backing. However, our bodies utilize water in all its cells, organs, and tissues to help regulate temperature, manage pain, and maintain other bodily functions. As a universal solvent, adequate intake of water promotes metabolism(the breakdown of food). Consequently, when combined with other weight loss routines like intermittent fasting, ketogenic diet, small, frequent meals, targeted exercise, etc., and water therapy can be effective in the weight loss journey. Apparently, skin conditions, digestive issues, and chronic diseases are implicated in this discomfort. Technically called Pruritis ani, it is neither a medical emergency nor a disease condition per se, but might indicate a more serious problem. Itching can lead to scraping, cuts, pain, and swelling. Undoubtedly, a combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual’s distinctive character contributes to the concept of attraction. Indeed, our physical appearance does make it easier for people to be attracted to us. Beauty, however, isn’t always a blessing; sometimes it is a curse. Being so good looking and smart could make one less desirable or trigger fierce competition. In 2013, three Emirati men were deported from Saudi Arabia for being deemed too handsome. One of them was speculated to be Dubai fashion photographer and actor, Omar Norman Al Gala. Their supposed offense was being too attractive as authorities feared women could become attracted to them. Thus, they were ejected from a festival in the conservative Gulf Kingdom. What a twist of fate! Health / Covid-19 Treatment Protocol | How To Treat Severe Coronavirus Infection by Wearabletech: 4:23pm On Jun 21, 2020 |
Wondering what to do for a coronavirus patient? *here's a clue*⚕️ Admin please approve! There is an approved treatment protocol for established disease conditions. This protocol is evidence-based and carefully worked out to guide physicians and caregivers on decision-making about care in specific health systems and resource settings. The same goes for the coronavirus pandemic caused by the newly discovered SARS-CoV-2. It has cost more than 431,000 lives globally. At this time, a lot is yet to be known about the disease; consequently, physicians and caregivers are still grappling with a formidable COVID-19 treatment protocol, drug, or vaccine. On June 16, 2020, researchers at the University of Oxford announced that the first drug proven to reduce COVID-19 mortality had been identified. Dexamethasone, an inexpensive steroid is said to decrease the chances of patients with severe SARS-CoV-2 infection from dying by a third. Dexamethasone is a widely available and efficacious addition to the constantly evolving COVID-19 treatment protocol. According to the report, this drug is set to become the standard of care for the National Health Service (NHS) across Britain. The breakthrough with dexamethasone is remarkable as its trial produced striking results and can be used immediately to save lives worldwide, said Father Horby of Oxford University, a study leader. Dexamethasone, a steroid, is an anti-inflammatory drug that helps dampen the excessive and potentially fatal immune response. Sadly, however, dexamethasone doesn’t help in mild cases (those without respiratory distress and who do not require mechanical ventilation) because suppressing their immune system will be counterproductive. A few unproven regimens initially thought to be beneficial were dropped during randomized control trials. One of such is Chloroquine phosphate and Hydroxychloroquine sulfate as they showed no efficacy but had grave consequences. Education / Do Viruses Exist Just To Kill? by Wearabletech: 12:06pm On Jun 14, 2020 |
Why do we think viruses exist just to kill their hosts? Viruses are perhaps, one of the earliest and simplest life forms in the universe. Size alone doesn’t explain why viruses survived the asteroid strike that wiped out the dinosaurs. Oh! And No! Viruses aren’t immortal but survive and flourish especially in favorable environmental conditions. Therefore viral infections persist. Going by the definition of ‘living or non-living’ things, viruses vaguely fit into a clear cut classification. Consequently, this dents the precision of grouping and characterization of life or its purpose. Viral infections remain the greatest threat to human existence. The 2019-20 coronavirus pandemic, for one, has re-emphasized the detestation of viruses. Why then do viruses exist? Education / How To Inactivate Coronaviruses At Home by Wearabletech: 4:35pm On Jun 07, 2020 |
Let's see what we can do to curb coronavirus pandemics my inactivating the viruses. *How to inactivate viruses at home* During a pandemic like this, one may be worried about the cheapest method of virus inactivation at home. Well, Viruses are the most abundant and tiniest of creatures. ️ For instance, the rhinoviruses that cause the common cold can be so small that 500 million of it would barely fit into a pinhead. Technically, viruses are barely considered living things, but, a sandwich of proteins and genetic materials capable of survival and replication. They can practically infect all life forms including bacteria!!! So, its size isn’t the only striking feature. On its own, a virus is functionally inactive until it enters a living cell referred to as a host. The virus outside a host is vulnerable, so much so that a solvent/detergent treatment is the method of choice to inactivate lipid-coat enveloped viruses such as the novel coronavirus. Regardless of this extracellular vulnerability, viruses are favored by dynamic environmental conditions. In other words, a virus becomes deathly in a favorable environment. Thankfully, there are actions to inactivate a multitude of known and unknown viruses while in their extracellular environment. A few of these will be highlighted. https://smaartcollections.com/virus-inactivation-at-hom/ 1 Share

Education / Will Covid-19 Become Somewhat Like A Seasonal Flu? by Wearabletech: 9:23am On May 31, 2020 |
Let's put coronaviruses into perspective! Share your knowledge! *Will Covid-19 become an endemic disease?* The novel coronavirus causing COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, was discovered in Wuhan, China. It started its course in December 2019. From the track record of coronaviruses, there is a good chance the novel coronavirus will not go away just yet and maybe a regular occurrence like the seasonal flu. The world has witnessed several health crises as a result of zoonotic (animal-originated) viruses. This is the situation with influenza that created the swine, bird, and seasonal flu outbreaks in recent history. Seasonal flu alone is estimated to bring about three to five million cases of severe illness, and 290,000 to 650,000 respiratory deaths annually. Speculations behind the seasonal nature of influenza outbreaks persist. One of such is that people are mostly indoors and in close proximity during the cold season. Consequently, this promotes the transmission of infection-causing organisms from person to person. According to WHO evidence so far, the COVID-19 virus can be transmitted in all areas, including areas with hot and humid weather. This is a striking feature. For the most part, however, SARS-CoV-2 has expressed its virulence in cooler, drier regions such as Italy, Spain, and Switzerland. *So, what does seasonality mean for covid-19* Visit the link below for more https://smaartcollections.com/corona-viruses-seasonal-flu/

Education / Are We Expecting A Second Wave Of Coronavirus by Wearabletech: 10:38am On May 24, 2020 |
In spite of the scare of a second wave of coronavirus infections, we have seen an ease of lockdown across different countries. This, as expected, has been cheered by citizens. Schools are open in Serbia and Germany; restaurants and bars are open for business in Italy; Spanish football clubs began training in groups of 10 players; leagues are soon to resume. We may enjoy this development but health officials are quick to warn of a second, likely more devastating wave of the outbreak. At a media briefing, Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the World Health Organisation's Health Emergencies Program, warned that the virus might remain a constant presence. In his words, "This virus just may become another endemic virus in our communities and this virus may never go away. HIV hasn't gone away". According to reports, about 5.1 million of the estimated 7.8 [1] million people in the universe have been infected. This means herd immunity is far from realisation. For COVID-19, herd immunity would mean over 80% of the population must have antibodies in order to provide any sort of protection for the remaining 20%. What's a Coronavirus second wave all about? Education / Covid-19 Testing | Why Everyone Should Be Tested? by Wearabletech: 1:15pm On May 17, 2020 |
Should everyone be tested? *the importance of Covid-19 testing ?* Ordinarily, the importance of accurate diagnoses cannot be overemphasized. Testing for COVID-19 is important for diagnosis hence, the right and timely treatment. However, the efficacy of the methodology, time factor, test kits, and its availability are perhaps among the most widely discussed topics. COVID-19 testing is necessary as it provides valuable information that guides public health decisions about measures to contain the outbreak and preventable death. There are other illnesses (differential diagnoses) that present with symptoms in the spectrum of the COVID-19 syndrome. ♂️ These include pneumonia, asthma, flu, malaria, etc. Owing to this, the need for accuracy is of utmost importance. ⚕️ As seen recently, there was panic over a trending video that showed an ambulance belonging to Warri Central Hospital, picking up a sick patient from her residence. The patient who was previously diagnosed of pneumonia back in 2004 recounted her ordeal on how she was ignored by doctors and nurses on reaching the said general hospital because she was coughing badly. Thinking she had coronavirus, the doctors were said to be confused. Days later, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Central Hospital, Warri, Delta State, Dr. Paul Okubor, dispelled rumors of a suspected case of coronavirus in Warri. Still, the fact remained that she was poorly treated, grossly mismanaged, and apparently, the treatment protocol for pneumonia was not followed. Education / When Will The Covid-19 Pandemic End? by Wearabletech: 9:47pm On May 10, 2020 |
Let's put things into scenario! The Coronavirus pandemic arose as a result of a newly discovered coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2. This virus is responsible for the disease called COVID-19. The pandemic began its course in December 2019 when pneumonia of unknown cause was detected in Wuhan, China. Since then, the SARS-CoV-2 has considerably spread so much that the outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020 by the World Health Organization (WHO). Currently, there are over 4,101,975 coronavirus cases and 280,451 [1] deaths worldwide. Further probe is ongoing as to the source of this virus. Studies suggest an animal source with the virus undergoing a change known as mutation. Another rather unpleasant proposition is biochemical engineering. Regardless of the source, the virus, in most cases, does considerable damage to the respiratory system in animals too. This virus which has proven itself to be very contagious belongs to a family known as Coronaviridae! Members of this family include Toroviruses and Coronaviruses. Coronaviruses have spawned a wide range of diseases in farm animals and pets. In hopes of containing the pandemic, countries, and cities continue to enforce social distancing, encourage self-isolation policies, and halt major events around the world. Similarly, proper use of PPE is the new order as the scientific community works tirelessly in search of a definitive cure or an effective vaccine against this much-dreaded strain of coronavirus. Amidst the entire event unfolding, one question lingers thus: ‘When will this pandemic actually end?’ Visit the link below for more https://smaartcollections.com/coronavirus-pandemic-end/ 1 Share
