Politics / Governor Wike Lauds Ortom For Defending Benue During Herdsmen Invasion by Weneda(m): 1:40pm On Dec 09, 2020
Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has lauded his Benue state counterpart, Governor Samuel Ortom, for standing firmly to defend his people against terrorist herdsmen and dismiss claims he was leaving the Peoples Democratic Party.

Governor Wike, maintained that nothing depicts failure of governance than the inability of any government saddled with responsibility of protecting life and property to do so.

He stated this during the commissioning of some the road projects constructed by Governor Ortom in Makurdi and Guma Local Government Areas of Benue State on Tuesday.

Governor Wike, said he was not surprised that Governor Ortom was fulfilling his pledge to provide dividends of democracy like the 41 kilometer road linking Makurdi and Guma LGAs, to the people of Benue State despite efforts by terrorists plot to destabilise the State.

“We must fight against injustice in the country. Ortom is not one of those Governors who will shy away from standing for the truth. Ortom, stood firm when his people were being killed. The major cardinal of governance is protection of life and property. If you cannot protect life of your people and property, governance is zero.”

Governor Wike stated that because Ortom stood firm to speak against abandonment of his people by the federal government, he was bullied and intimidated by his former party, the All Progressives Congress.

The Rivers State governor used the occasion to dismiss insinuation that Ortom was on the verge of defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC.

“Today, in this country there is total insecurity and then people are telling you Ortom is moving. To where he nearly died? Who digs his grave? Does any man dig his grave? God brought him out of the wilderness. When he was longing, seeking for shelter and water to drink and God provided him a platform. And after he had suffered and brought his people back from the wilderness, then some people are coming to say he is coming backing. Coming back to where ?”

Governor Wike described Ortom as a man of character who had passed through difficulties in his political career in a bid to defend and protect his people, which is the essence of governance.

“I knew what happened, and you stood firm to show that this is the type of leadership we need in this country and that is why your people can come back today to start rebuilding where the terrorists came to destroy. My coming here to support you is not only because we are friends, but because I cannot stand injustice. Whether anybody likes it or not, I will continue in my life to fight injustice because nobody is a third class citizen of this county. All of us have equal rights in this country, so let nobody be deceived that there are people who are born to be first class and there are people who were born to be third class.”

On his part, Governor Ortom explained at a very critical moment in Benue history, Governor Wike demonstrated friendship by speaking out against the neglect of the State and donated N200 million to support internally displaced persons.

“When we were attacked by terrorist herdsmen and militia groups coming to invade our land and to take over in the name of cattle rearing, and we saw it and stood up against it. Governor Wike, was with us. He spoke out when others shied away from speaking the truth and speaking against the injustice that was being meted out against us. Governor Wike stood against the injustice.

“When eventually we have IDPS and were crying everyday, looking for food to give them, looking for shelter, looking for medication and other needs, Governor Wike stood up. He could have sent someone, but he came here, in Benue state and donated the sum of N200 million. For him to spare N200 million to support IDPS in Benue state in distress, it a thing we will never forget.”

The governor said all those who share in the same aspiration of fighting against injustice; fighting for equity, transparency and fairness must come together to save the country.

“Security is a challenge, the economy is a problem to everyone of us and we are all affected. Politically, nothing is defined in such a way that we can sleep with our two eyes closed and trust each other. It is unfortunate that we have gotten ourselves to where we are. But, God will not come from heaven and turn around things. It is we , Nigerians that must find a way of solving the problems we have and that is why some of us will continue to say that there is need for a kind of dialogue.

“There is a need for Nigerians to sit together and look at where we are and see what can be done to correct the imbalance that we have today in our economy, in our security and Political. Something is wrong. There is no doubt about that and we must find a way of correcting that.”

Governor Ortom lauded Wike for coming to his rescue when he was in distress in the APC. He explained that the Rivers State governor stood by him and persuaded the stakeholders in Benue PDP to accommodate him.

“When I was in distress in my former political party, I did not what to do and I went to him he stood with me and rose up and spoke to the stakeholders to say look this young man must not be abandoned because he stood for his people. Wike came here himself with leaders of PDP, discussed with stakeholders of the party in Benue state and brought me into the PDP and today I am a governor.”

Politics / Wike To Northern Elders by Weneda(m): 1:16pm On Dec 08, 2020
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has given assurance that he will continue to conduct the affairs of government in a manner that will not undermine the interest of any ethnic group resident in the state.

The governor gave the assurance when he played host to leaders of Northern Elders Forum (NEF) led by its Chairman, Prof. Ango-Abdullahi at Government House Port Harcourt on Monday.

The Northern leaders were in the State to meet with their kith and kin in the aftermath of the EndSARS protest that was hijacked by the proscribed Indigenous People Organisation of Biafra (IPOB) in the state.

Governor Wike, applauded the leaders for the visit to ascertain what actually happened during the EndSARS protest. According to him, it was sad that people will do the wrong and dubiously tie any effort made to correct them to politics and ethnic bias just to deepen the divide among Nigerians.

"The EndSARS protest was very peaceful in Rivers state. Oyigbo Local Government is one of the biggest in terms of population in the state. Miscreants woke up one morning because people are doing EndSARS protest and began to kill innocent people. They burnt down police stations, killed police officers and soldiers and destroyed courts.

"When you say what you're done is wrong, we can't allow it, they say you're against a particular ethnic group. How can that be? That action almost led to a big violence between this group and that group. I am the governor of the state, how can I allow my state to be a centre of war? That can't happen.

"Nobody can sack anybody here. Everybody has the right to live in the state. But no group can say it is their own place. I won't allow that. We also have Rivers people who are living outside. So, I can assure you that I will not do anything that will not be fair to any ethnic group.”

Governor Wike, said he had raised alarm against the danger of insecurity after a cultists killed over one hundred persons on a particular Christmas' eve in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local government of the State. But, regrettably, the Federal Government reduced the issue to politics and today, insecurity is ravaging every state of the federation.

The governor also recalled how FSARS brutality against Rivers People was also ignored. Worst still, he said even the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued a report that indicted the FSARS commander in the state, but instead of addressing the issues, the erring officer was rewarded and promoted.

"The primary responsibility of every government is to make sure that life and property are being protected. When that is lost, then there is nothing like governance again.

"But it appears there is leadership pandemic like you said. If truly leadership is serious, if we don't politicise the issue of security, we won't have been where we are today. God has made it possible for us to be part of one country, that means where you come from should not be a factor in order to move this country forward."

Earlier, the Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, Prof Ango Abdullahi said though they had received complains from their kith and kin of what happened during the EndSARS protest, they decided to visit the South to ascertain the facts.

He explained that based on the forum’s interaction with Northerners living in Rivers state, they seem fairly comfortable and satisfied residing in the State. According to him, the kind of empathy, sympathy and care that Governor Wike has shown as a leader, was worthy of emulation.

“There is no doubt in my mind that this perhaps can be explained by history. The greatest history in terms of political relationship between the people of the North and the Southern part of the country can always been found deeply rooted here in the Niger Delta area.”

“We, like on behalf, not only on behalf of Northern Elders Forum, but on behalf of Northern community world over, we thank you very sincerely for what we have heard and indeed what I have seen in terms of what you have been able to do to help ameliorate some of the challenges and difficulties faced by our brothers living here.”

Abdullahi, said if the harmonious coexistence between Rivers people and Northerners living in the State could be replicated all over the country, then, the country will be a peaceable place for all.

“You have a leadership role to play in terms of what the country requires. If you put your heads together, this country will not only survive but it will also thrive. Your excellency from the discussion we have had with our brothers and sisters who live here, and they are almost more yours than ours, is that there is a lot of hope in this country. What is missing is whereas we are having virus pandemic, we are also having leadership pandemic and something has to be done about it.”

other members of the NEF delegation include former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Ghali Umar Na'Abba; former NRC presidential candidate, Bashir Othman Tofa; Hakeem Baba Ahmed; General Saleh Maina (rtd) among others.

Sports / Rivers First Lady Urges Lady Golfers by Weneda(m): 1:51pm On Dec 06, 2020
Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Justice Suzzette Eberechi Nyesom-Wike has urged ladies golfers to continue to encourage and draw strength from each other through golfing.

She said when women are happy with what they are engaged in productively like golfing, their husbands also benefit from such state of mind and health.

Justice Nyesom-Wike, made the remark at the 29th Ladies Amateur Open Champion which held at the golf course of the Port Harcourt Club 1928 on Saturday.

The wife of the governor, who had the ceremonial Tee Off, and later watched performances of lady golfers who were in the state for their National Inter-club Annual Competition, noted that such coming together of ladies to play golf also encourages them to mingle and draw strength from each other.

"I will advise the ladies to keep up with what they are doing already. There is something about exercise, it might seem that golf is not very exerting as an exercise, but all the walking and even relating with nature, seeing all the green, give you some kind of joy.

"It is something to look forward to, and I encourage them to continue because a happy wife makes a happy life for a man or her husband.

"So, when the women come out like this and then they get engaged, they encourage each other, mingle and just draw strength from each other. It's a beautiful thing and you're happier anytime you exercise."

On her part, the Lady Captain of Port Harcourt Club, Mrs. Pat Ozomenne said the competition is an annual event and it is incumbent on the outgoing captain to host such event.

According to her, several golfers from clubs across the country participated in the event that began last week with children between the ages of 5-7, 8-10, 10-15, and 15 -18.

"We pulled the ladies from the various parts of the country, different clubs, to come together and then play the game of golf. It is also to improve on the game, and challenge ourselves too.

"Last week's Wednesday, was for the children between ages 5-7, 8-10, 10-15, and 15 -18years. The elderly ones played on Tuesday.

"So, we actually spread it because of the Coronavirus pandemic. We didn't want the course to be overcrowded, The caddies; younger ones carrying the bags that you see, they are the future potential professionals."

Politics / Justice Akomolafe-wilson Lauds Gov Wike Appointment Of Non-indigene Chief Judge by Weneda(m): 5:09pm On Dec 05, 2020
Justice Tinuade Akomolafe-Wilson has commended Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, for appointing an Edo indigene the Chief Judge of Rivers State.

Justice Akomolafe-Wilson said it was absurd to use state of origin to deny married female judges the opportunity to attain the peak of their judicial career.

She stated this during a valedictory court session held in her honour at the Court of Appeal in Benin City, Edo State on Thursday.

Justice Akomolafe-Wilson, regretted that despite been married to an Edo husband and started her legal career in the former Mid-Western State in 1975, in 2009 when there was an opening for her to be appointed to the Court of Appeal, it was scuttled because she hails from Ekiti State.

“Apart from the fact that I was not in the good books of some people in certain quarters, because of my disciplined style of life, some others raised objections on the ground that I am not an indigene of Edo State. That was in spite of my longstanding marriage to an Edo man, long running service to the State at different levels and the fact that my mother is an indigene of Edo State. The appointment was scuttled and my name was dropped.

“This myopic definition of State of origin for a married woman, who has put in several years of loyal service in her husband’s State, can neither serve the ends of justice, nor promote national cohesion and unity. For me, Edo State has been my home for a longer period than Ekiti State has been” she said.

She explained that when the next appointment window was announced in 2012, God opened the door for her. And despite being oblivious of the exercise for appointment of Court of Appeal Justices, through God’s benevolent intervention, she was recommended by other Justices of the appellate court.

Justice Akomolafe-Wilson whose valedictory court session was attended by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, said the appointment of judges therefore ought to strictly be on merit, having regards to persons of intelligence, integrity and not based on favouritism, lobbying and worse of all, partisanship.

“in the past, people did not have to lobby for appointment as Judges. They were invariably invited due to their creditable performance as lawyers. Today, it is almost becoming the survival of the fittest in the world of lobbying and influence peddling. Sadly, many of these lobbyists and influence peddlers are morally and intellectually bankrupt” she said.

Justice Akomolafe-Wilson noted that the judiciary has made enormous contributions to nation building and that the Nigerian public has been most unfair to the Nigerian judges, both past and present.

She said it was time Nigerians begin to appreciate that the strength of a country can be determined by how strong the judicial system is. According to her, a weak judiciary means a normless society predicated on abuse of rule of law, injustice and inequality.

Justice Akomolafe-Wilson used the occasion to advocate for financial autonomy of the judiciary and the stretching of retirement age of judges to 75, better still, the removal of the cap entirely.

She thanked Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State for his benevolence towards her. she also lauded the Edo State Chief Judge, Hon Justice Esther Edigin for her cooperation.

Dignitaries present at the valedictory court session included: Secretary to the Rivers State government, Dr Tammy Danagogo; Rivers State Commissioner of Agriculture, Dr Fred Kpakol; Chief Gabriel Igbinedion (the Esama of Benin Kingdom); Chief Dan Orbih among others.

The proposed 2021 budget christened, “Budget of Recovery and Consolidation”, is made up of N305, 894, 284.061 for Capital Expenditure, while N142,776,489,415 is earmarked as Recurrent Expenditure.

Governor Wike, while presenting the Budget to lawmakers at the State House of Assembly in Port Harcourt on Wednesday said the N448,660,773,476 budget for 2021 fiscal year represents more than 20% increase over the 2020 Revised Budget of N300billion.

He said the capital expenditure, representing 68.18% of the total budget size, constituted as follows: Administrative sector N 87, 790,330,011.37; Economic sector N 105,077,364,248,.81; Law and Justice N1,742,996,000.00; Social sector - N 132, 656,033,322.35 and Deductions/Loan repayments N38,000,000,000.00.

The governor explained that the capital budget will be deployed to advance economic growth and social progress by targeting and prioritizing investments.

He said the sum of N82,957,295,248.81 has been provided for the provision of infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and completion of flyover projects at Okoro-Nu-Odo, Rumuola, Rumuogba, and Port Harcourt GRA junction.

“We will also deliver the Ogoni – Andoni – Opobo unity road, the Eastern bypass dualization, 6th and 7th flyover projects and the Wakama road as well as all other ongoing rural roads in our communities and local government areas across the State.”

The governor stated that over N6 billion Naira has been provided in the 2021 budget to stimulate economic growth through investments in commerce, culture and tourism, mineral resource development as well as address environmental challenges to improve the quality of life of all residents.

Similarly, he said N13,861,407,451.97 has been provided to fund various social and economic investment schemes to support the development of small and medium scale businesses as part of efforts to create jobs and reduce poverty.

The governor noted that economic challenges of the COVD-19 pandemic clearly exposed the State vulnerability to food insecurity. Hence, the sum of N16,107,080,000.00 will be spent on targeted investments in the agriculture value chain in a bid to create employment and enhance collective food security of the state.

In cognizance that quality public education remains the key to breaking cycles of poverty, the governor said his administration has decided to prioritize education in the 2021 budget with the provision of N30,000,000,00 to boost infrastructure, enhance access and retention rates and improve educational outcomes in our schools throughout the State.

The governor hinted that the State government has provided N25,111,728,000.00 for health care services for 2021 fiscal year. According to him, government will focus on completing the four zonal referral hospitals at Ahoada, Bori, Degema, Okehi and Omoku, which are all at advanced stages of completion.

Governor Wike, explained that the 2021 budget will also prioritizes security and sustains the existing efforts in combating insecurity and keeping residents safe and secure.

He said the Recurrent Expenditure of N142,776,489,415 represents 31.82 per cent of the 2021 budget. Out of this sum, he said N76,198,906,179 is for personnel costs; N18,863,016,430 is for overheads and N47,704,566,804 will be for grants and transfers to the consolidated revenue charges.

“From inception, this administration has prioritized the payment of salaries and pensions and I wish to assure our workers, including the proposed five thousand new enlistments, that they will receive their salaries as when due in 2021. Ministries, Departments and Agencies are also assured of prompt release of overheads to enable them run effectively and deliver services to the people.”

The governor, explained that Nigeria is currently in its second recession in five years with headline inflation at 14 per cent. However, he said the Federal Government has projected that the country will exit the recession in the first quarter of 2021.

Governor Wike said the policy thrust for the year 2021 budget will be to accelerate economic recovery, drive growth and create opportunities for social progress; enhance human capital development and tackle poverty; build first class infrastructures to accelerate our socio-economic development.

He expressed optimism that the measures in the budget will place the State on a stronger economic footing towards achieving the new Rivers vision for a peaceful, secure, inclusive and prosperous society.

He said the budget will be funded from Statutory Allocation, 13% Oil Mineral Fund, internally generated revenue, value added tax, refunds for federal projects and excess crude oil deductions, domestic and foreign credit as well as grants from our development partners.

Commenting on the performance of the 2020 budget, Governor Wike disclosed that at the end of October 2020, the total net revenue collected by the State was N226,522,031,922.45, representing about 75 percent overall proportional performance.

“While receipts from federal allocations declined internally generated revenue overshot the budget projections by over twenty billion naira (N20,000,000,000.00) despite the pause we placed on the payment of taxes by the informal sector and small businesses.”

The Speaker, Ikuinyi Ibani, lauded Governor Wike’s commitment towards transforming the State’s economy. According to him, generations to come will live to acknowledge his good deeds.

The Speaker further assured Governor Wike that the State lawmakers would diligently consider and pass the budget to facilitate the continued development of the state.

Present at the budget presentation were: Rivers State deputy governor, Mrs Ipalibo Harry Banigo; Secretary to the State government, Dr Tammy Danagogo; the State PDP chairman, Ambassador Desmond Akwor and members of the State executive council.

Sodom and Gomorrah seems to be more decent than this generation...

Criminals are now celebrated as Yahoo boys... It is no longer prostitute but slay queen... It is no longer bleaching but glowing... no longer Ritualist/blood money is now Yahoo plus... Drug dealers are now called hustlers... An harlot is now a runs girl... Church workers now comment on immorality post in the name of freaky-freaky... It is no longer fornication but love making... Even rudeness is now savage... pride is now small girls with big God... Gambling has been upgraded to bet nija... Pornography is now recognize as BBNIJA... Premarital sex is now the main prove of love... Can you see how they have upgraded human killings to be politics? Most of these evil acts are done because of a so-called grace message.

Virginity that was the most expensive asset is now cheaper than a plate of food. I have seen ladies who denial guys access to their ATM pin, account balance, their birth certificate, but yet give them easy access to their private parts. Among all these things which one are we suppose to protect from a second party?

Haven't you seen where someone will abandon the good news of the Bible just to get news from yabaleft, operamini, Lynda ikeji's blog? People are ready to die for their political parties rather than the gospel... Where the youth pay more respect to the voice of celebrities than the voice of God's ordained prophets... They even monitor and follow up ballot boxes why the new converts in their churches are perishing because of lack of follow up...

This is the generation where ladies are now scheduled for hibs surgery, boobs sugery... guys are now going for penni's enlargement... All these are just to satisfy their sexual urge and boost their fornication spirit...

No matter how you chose to live your life... always remember there is something called death, there is a place called hell, there is a place called judgement throne...

Politics / Supreme Court Affirms Rsg Purchase Of Oml 11, Kidney Island by Weneda(m): 6:36am On Nov 28, 2020
The Supreme Court has affirmed Rivers state government acquisition of 45 percent equity stake of Shell Petroleum Development Company in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 11 and Kidney Island in Port Harcourt.

Rivers State government acquisition of OML 11 and Kidney Island was affirmed by the apex court on Friday, when it dismissed the multinational oil firm’s suit which sought the setting aside of the N17 billion judgment made against it in 2019.

It will be recalled that the Supreme Court had in January 2019, upheld the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which awarded N17 billion damages against Shell for a devastating oil spill that ravaged farmlands, rivers and streams in Ejama-Ebubu in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State decades ago.

Shell, had in July 2019, filed a suit at the Supreme Court to set aside its earlier judgment on the ground that the apex court did not go into the merit of their appeal before upholding the decision of the Court of Appeal.

But, the Supreme Court in a unanimous judgment prepared by Justice Centus Nweze and delivered by Justice Samuel Oseji, asserted that the appeal filed by Shell was frivolous and lacks merit.

Justice Oseji declared that the Supreme Court cannot revisit its earlier decision on the matter. To this end, the court dismissed Shell’s appeal for being incompetent and lacking in merit.

In addition, the Supreme Court held that parties are to bear the cost of their litigation.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, had in September last year announced the acquisition of Shell’s 45% interest in OML 11 oilfields and Kidney Island in the State.

The governor, had directed the Rivers State Ministry of Finance Incorporated to make a bid of USD 150,000,0900.00 supported by a Bank Guarantee and cash payment to the Deputy Sheriff in the sum of N1 billion, the later payable to the Judgement Creditors while the former is escrowed.

The Ejama community had filed a suit against Shell over un-remedied pollution that took place since 1970 as admitted by SPDC vide letters they wrote seeking to clean the spill in 2006 while the case was at the trial Court.

The suit between Shell and Ejama-Ebubu community was finally disposed in 2017. But, Shell and its parent companies took out a further appeal to the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2017, which appeal was considered and dismissed by that Court in a judgment read by Hon. Justice B. Akaahs.

After losing at the High Court, Shell gave the successful Ejama Ebubu Plaintiffs a Bond Guarantee stipulating that First Bank of Nigerian Limited would pay them the value of the Judgment debt and interests thereon in the event that SPDC’s appeal to the Court of Appeal fails at that Court.

Having lost the matter at the Court of Appeal, the Ejama Ebubu community commenced enforcement by domiciling the judgment in the State High Court and levying execution on SPDC moveables in their Industrial Area in Port Harcourt.

Shell, had invited the community and offered them N7 billion as against the judgment debt of N194 billion, which the community refused to accept. Afterwards, the community approached the court for an order granting them leave to sell SPDC’s immovable property comprised in OML 11 and their kidney Island support base in Port Harcourt .

It was on this basis, that the Rivers State government placed advertisement of the said immovable assets for auction after the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Rivers State alerted the Government of the State of the matter.

Governor Wike, had said that rather than standby and watch other persons or group purchase Shell’s 45% interest in OML 11 and further exacerbate the poverty of the people of the State, the State Government had to weigh in and bid for the purchase of SPDC interest already set down for auction.

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden plans to name the first members of his Cabinet on Tuesday, a key aide said Sunday, even as President Donald Trump urged Republicans to help him in his long-shot legal effort to overturn his reelection defeat.

Ron Klain, Biden’s incoming White House chief of staff, declined in an interview on ABC’s “This Week” show to say which agency heads Biden would name. But the president-elect said last week he had settled on a new Treasury secretary and that his selection would appeal to “all elements of the Democratic Party ... progressive to the moderate coalitions."

While Biden is transitioning to become the country’s 46th president at his inauguration on January 20, Trump has refused to concede. On Sunday, the outgoing U.S. leader told his followers on Twitter, “We will find massive numbers of fraudulent ballots. ... Fight hard Republicans.”

But Trump’s legal fight has been fruitless so far, with his campaign losing or withdrawing 34 lawsuits claiming vote and vote-counting fraud in key battleground states Biden was projected to win to claim a four-year term in the White House.

Trump has not upended the vote count in any state, leaving intact Biden’s unofficial 306-232 majority vote in the Electoral College. It determines U.S. presidential elections, not the national popular vote, although Biden leads there, too, by more than 6 million votes.

Trump’s latest legal defeat contesting the election came late Saturday in Pennsylvania, whose 20 electoral votes Biden won by an 81,000-vote margin after Trump won the state over Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016 en route to the presidency.

U.S. District Judge Matthew Brann declared that the Trump campaign had presented “strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations” in its effort to throw out millions of votes and hand the state’s electoral votes to Trump.

“In the United States of America, this cannot justify the disenfranchisement of a single voter, let alone all the voters of its sixth most populated state,” Brann wrote.

Politics / We Must Exit This Recession With Precision By Atiku Abubakar GCON by Weneda(m): 5:52am On Nov 24, 2020
It is with a very heavy heart that I received the confirmation that for the second time in five years, Nigeria has entered into another recession. Heaviness of heart, because this could have been avoided had this administration taken heed to patriotic counsel given by myself and other well meaning Nigerians on cutting the cost of governance, saving for a rainy day, and avoiding profligate borrowing.

Yes, the COVID19 pandemic has exacerbated an already bad situation, however, we could have avoided this fate by a disciplined and prudent management of our economy.

Be that as it may, it serves no one’s purposes to quarrel after the fact. We must focus on solutions. Nigeria needs critical leadership to guide her back to the path of economic sustainability.

We cannot afford hand wringing and navel-gazing. We must act now, by taking necessary, and perhaps painful actions.

For a start, the proposed 2021 budget presented to the National Assembly on Tuesday, October 8, 2020, is no longer tenable. Nigeria neither has the resources, or the need to implement such a luxury heavy budget. The nation is broke, but not broken. However, if we continue to spend lavishly, even when we do not earn commensurately, we would go from being a broke nation, to being a broken nation.

As a matter of importance and urgency, every non essential line item in the proposed 2021 budget must be expunged. For the avoidance of doubt, this ought to include estacodes, non emergency travel, feeding, welfare packages, overseas training, new vehicle purchases, office upgrades, non salary allowances, etc.

Until our economic prospects improve, Nigeria ought to exclusively focus on making budgetary proposals for essential items, which include reasonable wages and salaries, infrastructural projects, and social services (citizenry’s health, and other human development investments).

Additionally, we have to stimulate the economy, by investing in human development, and increasing the purchasing power of the most vulnerable of our population. Only a well developed populace can generate enough economic activity for the nation to exit this recession.

We must invest in those most likely to be impacted by the effects of the recession, the poorest of the poor. As well as stimulating the economy, this also ensures that they do not slip further into extreme poverty.

For example, a stimulus package, in the form of monthly cash transfers of ₦5000 to be made to every bank account holder, verified by a Bank Verification Number, whose combined total deposit in the year 2019 was lower than the annual minimum wage.

Now, how will this be funded? By more profligate borrowing? No. I propose a luxury tax on goods and services that are exclusively accessible only to the super-wealthy. A tax on the ultra wealthy to protect the extremely poor.

A practical approach to this is to place a 15% tax on all Business and First Class tickets sold to and from Nigeria, on all luxury car imports and sales, on all private jets imports and service charges, on all jewellery imports and sales, on all designer products imported, produced or sold in Nigeria, and on all other luxury goods either manufactured, or imported into Nigeria, with the exception of goods made for export. The proceeds of this tax should be exclusively dedicated to a Poverty Eradication Fund, which must be managed in the same manner as the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, or the Ecological Fund.

I further propose that a 1% poverty alleviation tax should be legislated by the National Assembly on the profits of every International Oil Company operating in Nigeria, and international airlines doing business in Nigeria, which should also go towards the proposed Poverty Eradication Fund.

It is inhumane for us as a nation to increase the cost of goods and services that affect the poor, while keeping the cost of luxuries fairly stable. We must flip this, and flip it immediately.

And above all, Nigeria must stop borrowing for anything other than essential needs. Again, for the avoidance of doubt, borrowing to pay salaries, or to engage in White Elephant projects, is not an essential need. This is particularly important as we need cash at hand, because the world and our economic and development partners are also focused on helping their home economies overcome effects of COVID19. We must be our own saviours.

The more we borrow, the more we will need cash to make interest and principal payments, and the less cash we will have to make necessary investments in our economy and our people. If we keep borrowing, we stand the risk of defaulting, and that will make recession a child’s play, because we will lose some of our sovereignty.

I urge the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to swallow its pride, and accept its limitations, so that they can open their minds to ideas, without caring who the messenger is. For as Deng Xiaoping said “It doesn't matter whether the cat is black or white, so long as it catches mice.

Is it that the only thing Wike knows how to do is curfew? Ordinary cult war is what he is declaring curfew thereby extending and multiplying the hardship of the already suffering Rivers people. So security can not be beefed up around that axis to curtail this gang war to the point that the entire community has to be punished.

Of a truth,wike is pure evil.he enjoys seen people suffer,wail,and cry .

Politics / Governor Wike Imposes A 24-Hour Curfew In Parts Of Rumuokoro And Rumuodomaya by Weneda(m): 9:06pm On Nov 22, 2020
Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has imposed a 24 hour total curfew for two weeks on the entire area around the Okoro-Nu-Odu flyover in Rumuokoro, due to upsurge of cult activities and related violence.

The governor has also warned that government will spare no efforts to deal appropriately with anyone who decides to disturb peace and security in the State with cult activities and associated violence and killings.

Governor Wike, in a state wide broadcast explained that decision to impose the curfew was taken after the State Security Council meeting on Sunday in Port Harcourt.

He explained that the Rivers State Government was seriously disturbed by the recent upsurge of cult activities and related violence and killings around the adjoining areas of the Okoro-Nu-Odu flyover in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The governor stated that government has repeatedly warned misguided youths that engaging in cultism because of its abhorrent anti-social effect on society.

“As part of measures to tackle this menace therefore, Government has imposed a 24-hour total curfew for two weeks on the entire area along and around the Okoro-nodu flyover up to one-kilometer radius from Saint Emmanuel Anglican Church, Rumuokoro, extending to the Rumuodomaya Slaughter and Local Government daily market with effect from Monday 23rd November 2020.

“Consequently, no form of trading, human or vehicular movement is allowed within the afore-mentioned restricted areas until further notice. Only staff and vehicles belonging to Julius Berger Nigeria Limited are exempted from the curfew and associated restrictions on movement so that construction work on the Okoro-Nu-Odu flyover is not stalled.”

The governor directed security agencies are to enforce strict compliance with the curfew and arrest and summarily prosecute any person, trader or vehicle that may attempt to violate the curfew.

“Again, we wish to warn that community leaders that allow cultism and related activities to thrive unabated in their communities would be treated as collaborators to the resulting crimes and dealt with accordingly.

“We urge all citizens to be part of the efforts to curb cultism in the State by reporting any suspicious cult activity, including gatherings and initiations in or around their neighbourhoods to the security agencies for immediate action.”

Governor disclosed that the State government will construct the 7th flyover in Port Harcourt to traverse Ikokwu to Azikiwe Street.

He appealed to residents of Port Harcourt and Obio-Akpor Local Government Areas to bear with the State government for traffic challenges that they may encounter in connection with the ongoing construction of the Oro-Abali and other flyovers.

“As you know our promise to construct and five flyovers to ease the perennial traffic challenges and accelerate socio-economic development of the State is well on course. we delivered and commissioned the first of the initial five flyovers, (the Rebisi flyover) to the glory of God and the good of our State, while construction work on the rest has reached advanced levels of completion.

“Indeed, the Okoro-nu-do flyover is next on the line to be delivered and commissioned, latest, in the first quarter of 2021.

Two days ago, the State Executive Council approved the award of the contract for the constructing of the sixth flyover along the Oro-Abali (Kaduna street) intersection of Aba road to Julius Berger Nigeria Limited.”

Politics / Couples Must Involve God In Their Marriage To Succeed by Weneda(m): 8:20pm On Nov 22, 2020
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Saturday attended the wedding of Miss Ibifuro Apiafi in Port Harcourt.

Ibifuro, is the daughter of the Federal lawmaker representing Rivers West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Betty Apiafi.

The wedding between Ibifuro and Mr Kalada Halliday was held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, King's Palace, Port Harcourt. And it was witnessed by families of the couple, their friends and well wishers.

The officiating minister, Pastor Solomon Marega, in his sermon taken from Genesis 6:14-16,22, enjoined the couple to emulate Noah, who though didn't have experience as a ship builder, successfully built an ark because he adhered strictly to the instructions of God.

Marega, explained that the reason why the gigantic ark built by Noah did not sink, irrespective of all the creatures it had to accommodate during the flood that ravaged the world, was because God was involved in the project. He likened marriage to a project, which if it must succeed, has to be committed to the hands of God.

“God wants us to involve Him in the project of our life. In your marriage, let God be involved in this project. When challenge of lack of wine arose during the wedding in Canaan, because Jesus was involved, the couple were not put to shame because he intervened.”

Marega, said the best way couples could possibly get God involved in their marriage, is for them to obey His word which explicitly charge the husband to love his wife unconditionally, while the woman is required to be submissive to her husband. According to him, couples who put this God’s ordinated instruction to practise will not have friction in their marriage.

“Noah did all that God told him to do when he was building the ark. He recognised that God was a Master builder. So, you have to submit yourselves to God because He is a Master builder. If you want happiness, peace and longevity in your marriage, just do what the Master Builder has said.”

Pastor Marega advised the couple to be patient with one another, because it is one of the key ingredient of any successful marriage. According to him, many marriages have crumbled due to impatience.

“We live in a fast pace world where we want everything in an instance. But, life is not an instant affair. Marriage too, is not an instant affair. Your life is a project and you must involve God for it to succeed.”

Present at the wedding were the former Governor of Rivers State, Dr Peter Odili and his wife, Justice Mary Odili; the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr Tammy Wenike Danagogo; former Minister of Transport, Dr Abiye Sekibo among other dignitaries.

Governor Wike, later attended the funeral of late Dr Ikechukwu Wihioka at Elele, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State.

Let me teach you how to show love to a guy.
Some of you don't know how to show love to the guy you are dating. Some ladies think that the only way to show love to a guy is by having sex with him, that's why some ladies don't have anything to offer a guy except sex.
Sex is not a prove of love. Don't used sex to prove that you love a guy as a lady, you can prove that you love a guy in the following ways.

1) Buy gift for him. You can give him gift of T-shirt, shoes, undies, singlet or even a phone if you have the money.

2) Take him out for launch and pay his bill at least once in 2 month it's not bad at all.

3) Send him some love text message occasionally.

4) Give him phone call daily at least once daily. Ask him how he is doing and tell him that you love him.

5) Occasionally you can cook a delicious meal for him, maybe once in a week or once in two weeks, but not everyday like a house wife.

6) You can also help him financially when he is broke.

7) Take him out for shopping at least once in a year. You will not die.

coolPray for him

9) Advice him

10) Help him to build a bright future.

I know some ladies will crucify me because of this post, but this is the ideal thing to do for your guy, not
SEX SEX SEX.

Politics / South-south Governors, Leaders Demand Apology From Presidency by Weneda(m): 5:13pm On Nov 21, 2020
The Governors and leaders of the South-South geopolitical region have demanded for an unreserved apology from the presidency for abruptly aborting a crucial stakeholders meeting scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

The presidency had fixed a meeting for Tuesday with the Governors and other leaders of the region to discuss burning national issues affecting the region and the aftermath effects of the EndSARS protest. The Federal Government delegation was supposed to include all the Ministers from the geopolitical zone and other persons.

Addressing South-South leaders at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Port Harcourt, Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa who presided over the session, narrated the botched meeting which was called at the instance of the presidency, through the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Agboola Ibrahim Gambari.

He explained that the meeting time was adjusted twice from 11am to 1pm on Tuesday, on the excuse that the President Mohammedu Buhari was meeting with Director of Department of State Services (DSS) and the Inspector General of Police, who were supposed to be part of the presidential delegation for the South-South meeting.

Governor Okowa, who is also the chairman of South-South Governors Forum, said he later got a call from the Chief of Staff to the President on Tuesday afternoon, announcing the eventual cancelation of the meeting. According to him, he felt really disappointed that the region could be treated in such disdain.

OKowa said the people of the region have been embarrassed, disgraced and disrespected. He stated that the South-South geopolitical zone is a very important component part of the nation and the governors feel insulted because the traditional rulers who had gathered for the meeting, deserved to be revered.

“As governors, we feel very touched and very sad about what has happened. And having also listened to our youths, we can feel the anger. As a mark of respect for our people, because you are actually the stakeholders of our region, we felt it was necessary for us to consult with you before taking any decision, if we take our decision without consulting with you, then we would have added to the disrespect that has just been meted on you.

“We call for a public apology, not for the governors alone. We call for a public apology because this meeting was not called at our instance. It was called at the instance of the Presidency. The time was changed last night. We understood and we talked to our people. Some of us did not sleep in trying to put things together. We have gotten to a very bad start. So we are going to convey this message to the chief of staff to the president.

He further continued: “We deserve as a region unreserved public apology to the region, particularly to our traditional rulers and the leaders in this zone, which include our Christian leaders, opinion leaders, our women and our youths, and also the governors of the zone who were voted into office and that is the least that we expect for us to accept the reconvene of this meeting.”

Former President of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People, Ledum Mitee, said he concerns the abrupt cancellation of the meeting not only as an insult but an effrontery on the people of the South-South zone.

Similarly, member of the 2014 national political reform conference, Ms Ann-Kio Briggs, said the Federal Government on Tuesday demonstrated the value it actually place on the South-South geopolitical zone.

On his part, the President of the Ijaw Youth Congress, Peter Igbifa, accused the federal government of taking the South-South for granted.

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, who hosted the meeting, described Rivers State, which is the capital of the South-South as safe.

Present at the meeting were also the Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River; Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akw Ibom; Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State; and Godwin Obaseki of Edo State. Other eminent persons present included: the National Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga, rtd; former President, Nigerian Bar Association, Onueze Okocha (SAN); among others.

Health / Rivers State Is Winning The War Against Covid-19 – Danagogo by Weneda(m): 3:45pm On Nov 21, 2020
Secretary to Rivers State Government, Dr Tammy Wenike Danagogo, Thursday said that the winning strategy adopted by the Governor of Rivers State - Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON in the fight against the dreaded Corona Virus pandemic presently ravaging the world, is recording huge success.

Danagogo noted that Corona Virus cannot be described as a mere disease as it has become a major global security challenge that has negatively affected all fascia of human co-existence adding that the Government of Rivers State is successfully overcoming those challenges.

Danagogo stated this while speaking to participants of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, during an interactive session with Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies on the theme; ‘Pandemic and National Security: Covid-19 in Perspective’, at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The SSG explained that, Governor Nyeson Ezenwo Wike’s political will, proactive, pragmatic and dogged approach to containing the virus in the State at the news of the index case in Lagos was a significant part of what lowered community spreading of the virus in the State.

“Rivers State Government started very early to wage the war against the pandemic. Governor Wike was very vocal about the dangers of the disease and implemented strict protocols backed by Executive Orders to ensure we do not allow community spread in the State.

“The Governor gave good account of himself in terms of proactive, pragmatic and rational leadership in the war against Covid-19. We are lucky that we have this kind of proactive Governor. I am certain that, if that same level of proactive and pragmatic approach was adopted nationally, we would not have been exposed to the virus as the nation experienced.

“Our borders were quickly closed and a lot of people insinuated we were challenging the Federal Government but that was a parochial view. The Security Council insisted on closing the borders because the moment Lagos was experiencing community spread, the next focal city was Port Harcourt.

The heads of the Security Agencies were patriotic and supported the efforts to implement strict measures but politics played into the challenge and the security heads were removed and our borders were opened which caused community spread in the State. However, despite the challenges presented by the change of security heads, the Governor was not perturbed as he had already setup different committees starting with the State Covid-19 Response Team headed by the Governor himself to tackle any such emergencies.

“Note that no matter what government or security agencies do, we need the understanding from the masses if we must win the war against the predicted second wave of the virus. But we are ready and hoping that we will succeed once again”, he added.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, noted that in addition to the tactical measures by the different committees, an all-encompassing communication strategy was implemented to create awareness and attitudinal change.

“Presently, we are transiting as a state, the State Executive Council Committee is going round schools to enlighten pupils and teachers as we transit,” he said.

The Commissioner for Health Prof Chike Princewill and the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Igbiks Tamuno respectively presented the state efforts in the health and environment sectors.

The team Leader of the Participants, Brig. Gen. Victor Ebhaleme, thanked the Governor for his leadership, magnanimity and hosting the participants. He acknowledged that the participants have benefitted enormously from the data presented.

Politics / Gov Wike Tells Umahi Not To Let His Quest For Presidency Destroy South East. by Weneda(m): 3:31pm On Nov 21, 2020
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has advised Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, not to allow his quest to become president of Nigeria, destroy the South East politically.

Governor Wike, said while no one will deny Umahi the right to pursue his political aspiration, which is the primary reason for his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), he should be mindful of the political future of the South-Eastern region.

The Rivers State governor who stated this in a Live television programme on Thursday, said Umahi has shown himself as an ungrateful man for insisting that he left PDP to protest the injustice the party meted to the South-Eastern region since 1999.

Governor Wike stated that one reason why Gov. Umahi is unhappy with PDP, was because Peter Obi, was chosen to run the joint Presidential ticket with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in 2019.

“When we had the 2018 convention that produced our Presidential Candidate then, the Waziri of Adamawa, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as presidential candidate, he consulted widely, and came up with Peter Obi, to be his Vice, Umahi was livid because he wanted to produce or he wanted to be Vice President. You don’t chose who would be the Vice Presidential candidate of anybody. Umahi was livid. What disturbs me, why do you think that if anything comes to South-East it must be you. Why do you think so"?

Governor Wike pointed out that Umahi cannot talk of injustice when he practices injustice against the South East zone by single handily installing his two younger brothers; one as the Zonal Vice Chairman of PDP and the other as the Deputy State Chairman of the party.

"If he believes in equity and justice, will he be doing such? It is because he has planted these people that the State House of Assembly had such effrontery to give the National Working Committee (NWC) ultimatum to zone presidency to the East. Where does such thing happen? No other party has done any zoning. You can imagine the level of selfishness. "

He also described as untrue the claim by Umahi that he made PDP what it is in the South East zone as the only financier of all of its activities. Such claim, according to Governor Wike suggests that other governors of Anambra, Abia, and Enugu States are not anything to ensure the success of the party in the zone.

"I know it's not correct. If not for Pius Ayim that impressed it on former Governor Elechi, would Umahi have become governor? So, he can't say he's the one who has built PDP.

"The party made him what he is and if he denies it, it only tells you the kind of person he is. What's even his contribution at the national level of the party to support his claim. Where was he when people like Alex Ekwueme fought General Abacha and built the party. I distaste such arrogance", he asserted.

Governor Wike, dismissed the allegation against him by Umahi that he is a dictator who imposed, Uche Secondus as PDP National Chairman and his will on the party. He described the allegation as spurious as evidence abound that Secondus was elected at the National Convention of the PDP.

The governor accused his Ebonyi State counterpart of being treacherous. To buttress this, he stated that when the caucus of the party decided that Kingsley Chinda, should be elected Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Umahi told his State Reps to work against it.

Governor Wike further stated that when PDP committed members tried to rescue the party from the destructive tendencies of Modi Sheriff, Umahi was one of those who was frolicking with him.

"We fought and won and Modi Sheriff left. I can say that I am one of those who made sure that PDP never died. I feel comfortable with my performance in my State. Rivers people are comfortable with me too".

Governor Wike disclosed that all PDP governors and committed members of the party have never been oblivious of the fact that Umahi had been an APC mole in the PDP. According to him, the Ebonyi governor's claim that the South East is marginalised in PDP, was diversionary.

“For the first time before PDP left office, they (South East) have never had Chief of Army Staff. They have had Senate Presidents. They have had national Chairman of the Party, they have had Secretary to the Government of the Federation. They have had Minister of Finance. Now, tell me what APC has given to the people of South-East since 2015, Minister of Labour, Minister of Science and Technology and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

"Three Senators from his state said they have seen the need for South-East to produce president. However, it is not the way our governor is going about. This is not a personal thing. Your ambition should not destroy the entire South East."

Politics / Rsg Approves Contract For Sixth Flyover In Port Harcourt. by Weneda(m): 3:22pm On Nov 21, 2020
Rivers State Government has approved a contract for the construction of a sixth flyover bridge to ease traffic congestion in Port Harcourt.

This new flyover located at the Kaduna Street Junction of Aba Road, is expected to change the aesthetics of Port Harcourt and boost economic activities of the State.

The Commissioner of Works, Eloka Tasie-Amadi said the decision to approve contract for the sixth flyover was taken during the State Executive Council meeting in Port Harcourt on Friday.

“The Rivers State Executive Council presided over by His Excellency, the Governor of Rivers State, has approved a contract for the construction of a flyover at the Kaduna Street junction of Aba Road in Port Harcourt and also approved the award of the contract to Messer Julius Berger.

“The construction will involve a bridge of 593 meters and service lanes of about 770 meters. The reason behind this is that you will observe that the bridge (at Kaduna Street Junction) is a two lane bridge. And we are going to make it a four lane bridge, dual carriage.”

Tasie-Amadi explained that by the time on going construction work on the Rumuogba, GRA junction and Rumuola flyovers are completed, all other bridges on Aba Road will be four lanes (dual carriage) with additional four lanes on the ground. To this end, he said leaving the Kaduna Street junction bridge as it will create a bottleneck, considering the free flow of traffic from the Rebisi Flyover.

“We, also recognise that there are implications when you have broken down vehicle on that bridge and possible security challenge when you have a broken down vehicle at night. So, these are the reasons why the Executive Council took this decision. We have also chosen Julius Berger to do the construction because of their track record as evidence from the recently commissioned Rebisi Flyover and the projects they are handling at the moment.”

The Commissioner of Works said Kaduna Street Junction flyover project will be completed in under 12 months.

In same vein, Commissioner of Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim, said the approval by the State Executive Council demonstrates a robust commitment to the urban renewal vision of Governor Wike’s administration.

“This new flyover will also beautify the city; the aesthetics will change, economic activities will also get a boost. We have seen this kind of passionate commitment to restore Port Harcourt to its Garden City status. At a time when governance has shutdown in various states of the federation because of COVID-19, the visionary government led by His Excellency, Nyesom Wike is still rolling out projects.

“This kind of development we are seeing in the State is a pointer to the service delivery and the commitment of His Excellency to ensure that social contract he has with Rivers State people is not affected by the economic downturn in the country.”

Nsirim maintained that the incumbent Rivers State government has continued to change the narrative about governance and striving assiduously to make Rivers State a model.

He said the Governor at the inception of his administration had clearly said he would ensure that Rivers State becomes a destination of choice for investors. According to him, what is happening within the state capital at this point in history is a confirmation that Rivers State, particularly, Port Harcourt, will become investors choice in years to come.

“Our appeal to citizens of the State is that the time has come to rally round this administration; shun distractors of government, shun those who are out to de-market the State. It is time to be united as a people and then come together to work with this visionary government to ensure that the purpose, the New Vision blueprint as enunciated since 2015 comes to fruition as has been articulated.”
