Politics / I Have No Regret Proscribing Ipob In Rivers State by Weneda(m): 5:10pm On Nov 20, 2020 |
Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, says he has no regret proscribing the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in Rivers State due to his belief in the unity of Nigeria. He said, Nigerians must at all times rise to protect and defend the interest of the country, and not allow parochial, sentimental politics to destroy the country. The governor stated this when a delegation of Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) paid a solidarity visit to the Government House, Port Harcourt , to commend him for his untiring efforts and dedication to protect the interest of ethnic groups living in Rivers State. The governor said the EndSARS protest was peaceful in the state until IPOB hijacked it, and committed arson by killing 6 Army officers, 4 Police officers, burnt police stations and courts. According to him, he cannot seat as governor and watch such lawless acts to be perpetrated by a people that has been proscribed by the federal government to cause ethnic war. “Without any apology, I am a true Nigerian. I believe that things must be done properly in a way that every component part of this country will be satisfied.” Governor Wike, reiterated that he has never been against any particular ethnic group living in the State, including every law abiding Igbos. He however, maintained that as a governor he cannot tolerate a situation where some misguided persons under the guise of IPOB would unleash attack innocent Nigerians in Rivers State. He explained that if the State Security Council was not proactive to impose curfew in the entire Oyigbo Local Government Area, the situation would have degenerated to war between Igbo and Hausa community residing in the area. According to him, the decision forestalled ethnic reprisal attacks that would have led to total breakdown of law and order in Oyigbo local government area and parts of Diobu axis of the State capital. Governor Wike, said all Nigerians must stand against injustice at all times no matter who is involved and be determined to work for the interest of the country. He further asserted that he is a true Nigerian and will continue to work for its indivisibility. CNG spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, said they were in the State to express their profound gratitude to the Governor for his leadership, sacrifice, statesmanship, and unwavering commitment deployed in protecting Northern communities from the violence and violation of their rights and dignity during the mayhem in Oyigbo. “Your concerned promptness in redeeming the solemn pledge of N200 million to the families of security personnel affected negatively by the flip side of the protests is certainly reassuring. We reasonably believe that if the federal authorities were to emulate the wisdom of offering such incentive to our troops on the front line, it would heighten their morale which is a present very low. The CNG craved the Governor’s indulgence as the caring and compassionate leader, to extend the same magnanimity to the unfortunate victims of the ugly side of the protests from Northern Nigeria to enable them start over. “Similarly, we are impressed by your level of rare courage and uncompromising stance in the repudiation of the activities of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and it’s fugitive leader Nnamdi Kanu in your state. this without doubt, is a commendable feat, because if leaders today need to hear the truth, they should be told that most of them have lost the energy and some of the courage to take responsibility in the interest of national sovereignty , national security, national peace and constitutionalism.” The delegation was led by the chairman board of trust of CNG, Nastura .A. Sheriff. KELVIN EBIRI Special Assistant (Media) to the Governor. November 18, 2020. |

Education / Rivers State Ministry Of Education by Weneda(m): 10:57am On Nov 05, 2020 |
RIVERS STATE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION PRESS RELEASE The attention of the Rivers State Ministry of Education has been drawn to a False and Malicious allegation published in the Port Harcourt Telegraph newspaper, claiming that the results of students who wrote the last WAEC examination (WASSCE) in public schools in Rivers State have been withheld because the State Government has not met it's financial obligations for the students. This is junk journalism, coming from the pit of hell, published by elements bent on painting the Government of Rivers State and the Ministry of Education black. For the avoidance of doubts: 1. The Government of Rivers State long ago paid the WAEC examination fees for ALL students in the public schools in the State, as promised. And this was well before the examination started. WAEC will confirm this. 2. The WAEC has denied mass withholding of results of students in public schools in Rivers State. Inquiries made to WAEC shows that results have been published, including results of students in public schools in Rivers State. 3. There is no such thing as mass withholding of results of students who wrote the last WAEC examination in public schools in the State for failure of Rivers State Government to meet its financial obligations. In fact, candidates who wrote the last WAEC examination in public schools in the State are accessing their results, contrary to the false publication. Inquiries made to WAEC shows that network problem is the reason why some candidates nationwide may not have been able to access their results. 4. In fact, the WAEC will not allow any candidate to write it's examinations without registration which involves payment of registration fee. The authors of the publication just betrayed their stark ignorance on WAEC procedures. Pitiable. 5. The general public, parents and guardians and candidates are hereby advised to ignore the publication, as it is false and malicious; a FAKE NEWS. The authors of the publication, who are members of an opposition political party in the State, will have their day in court so others like them will learn not to spread FAKE NEWS. Politics / Gov Wike Donates N200million by Weneda(m): 8:03pm On Nov 04, 2020 |
GOVERNOR WIKE DONATES N200MILLION TO FAMILIES OF 10 SECURITY AGENTS KILLED BY IPOB Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has redeemed his pledge of N20 Million to each family of the ten security personnel killed by members of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) in Oyigbo Local Government. Governor Wike had on Wednesday last week during a condolence visit to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, announced the donation of N20MILLION to each family of the four policemen and six Army killed by IPOB members in Oyigbo. The cheques were presented to the bereaved widows at the State Police Command and 6 Division, Nigerian Army, in Port Harcourt, respectively on Tuesday. Governor Wike said the gesture is in fulfilment of his earlier promise to alleviate the plight of the widows and their children. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Wennike Danagogo, the governor described the murder of the security personnel by IPOB members as unacceptable and should be condemned by every right-thinking Nigerian. Governor Wike told the Commissioner of Police that Government will not tolerate any terrorist group like IPOB in the state or allow them to kill any innocent citizen, particularly policemen and soldiers who are defending and protecting citizens of the state. “As a Governor who matches his words with action, he has sent us to come and redeem that promise and to present the cheques of 20 Million each to the widows of the four police officers killed by IPOB." Governor Wike assured the State Commissioner of Police that the State will always stand with the police to fight crime. In his response, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mukan, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu thanked Governor Wike for fulfilling his promise. He said the police have recovered some arms and arrested some persons who have made confessional statements. According to him, 22 persons have been charged to court. Similarly, at the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Governor Wike commiserated with the Nigerian Army, the widows and families of the 6 soldiers killed by IPOB. He said Rivers State Government will ensure that the criminal elements who killed the soldiers and cart away their arms and ammunition are arrested and prosecuted. “The Governor made a pronouncement that he will give a token sum of 20 Million to each of the widows of the slain soldiers. So, we are here to fulfil that promise to give cheques to the widows so that they can be able to survive in the absence of their breadwinners” he said In his remarks, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Orlu Irefin expressed the gratitude on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Yusuf Buratai and the entire Nigerian Army to the Rivers State Governor for the kind gesture to the widows of the slain soldiers. He dispelled fake news in social media on the activities of the Army in Oyigbo, emphasizing that action of the Army in the area is within the ambit of the law and rules of engagement Danagogo was accompanied by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim and Commissioner for Social Welfare, Mrs. Inime Aguma. Politics / Rivers Security Council To Review Situation In Oyigbo by Weneda(m): 7:14pm On Nov 02, 2020 |
RIVERS SECURITY COUNCIL TO REVIEW SITUATION IN OYIGBO The Rivers State security council is to meet and review the situation in Oyigbo Local Government Area after members of proscribed Indigenous Peoples Organisations of Biafra (IPOB) killed ten security agencies and burnt court buildings. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike who disclosed this, has also reinstated the commitment of his administration to protect life and property of everybody in the state. Governor Wike stated this when he met leaders of Igbos, Hausas, Yoruba and other ethnic nationalities living in the state at Government House, Port Harcourt on Monday. The governor dismissed insinuation that he ordered soldiers to kill Igbos in Oyigbo Local Government Area amidst the curfew imposed by the Security Council. "It is not correct that soldiers are going from house to house to kill. When the IPOB killed the Army officers, they took their guns. It is normal for them to recover those guns. In any case, there are consequences when soldiers are killed. Maybe they are retaliating in order to rebuild the moral of other soldiers. How can I now have such powers to order soldiers on any operation? "Now, you carry propaganda that Wike is killing Igbos. They live everywhere in the state. So, am I also killing them elsewhere? No tribe gave us the kind of support Igbos gave to me, but that does not mean we should allow IPOB to destroy the state.” He explained that Security Council was compelled to impose curfew in Oyigbo to prevent further loss of life and property. According to him, there is no way he will order any offensive action against Oyigbo, which is where the chairman of Peoples Democratic Party in the state hails from. The Governor declared that it will be absurd for IPOB to assume the role of speaking for the Igbos when there are credible and outstanding people who can speak for them. To this end, he warned against allowing IPOB to continue misrepresenting the Igbos ethnic nationality. “Let IPOB not give Igbos bad name. Any people that allow a criminal to speak for them, that tribe is finished," he stated. He charged residents of the State appalled by the nefarious activities of IPOB, to resist the group and whatever it stands for. Explaining why curfew was imposed in the Ikokwu area of Port Harcourt, the Governor said the State security council took the decision following intelligence report that Ikokwu host to a lot of IPOB cells in the State capital. He described the recent clash between Hausas and Igbos following IPOB instigated attacks against the former as unfortunate. The Governor said while government is creating conducive environment that will promote business, social and cultural life of residents, they must also learn to live together without causing trouble. "Any decision we take is for the good of everybody. It is not against any tribe. We have lived peacefully with people from other tribes. So stop fighting yourselves and creating the impression that there is war here. Don't also make disagreements between business partners appear as tribal war. Allow them to settle the matter as businessmen. "There is need for all of us to live in peace. From today, I don't want to hear Igbo fighting Hausa. If there is any trouble, there is no need to take laws into your hands. Report the matter to us and we will address it, " he said. Governor Wike announced the plan of government to rebuild the Slaughter-Oginigba Market in Trans-Amadi industrial layout in Port Harcourt and hand it over to competent people to manage. He further enjoined cattle rustlers who are breeding cows to stop using them to destroy the farmland of others. Governor Wike warned operators of illegal motor parks, street and rail line traders in the state to desist or be ready to face the wrath of government. He also called on the Federal Government to give consideration to lessons learnt from the EndSARS protest. "What has happened is a lesson for Nigeria. Don't under rate the youths. It was a protest by intelligent and professional youths who have suffered enough. "It is a signal and the youths as graduates are getting restless. Federal Government should ask, how do we use this opportunity to reduce unemployment. My executive council has taken action already to employ 5000 youths," he added.
