Travel / Re: Nigerian Passengers Denied Entry Into South Africa by whitebrown(f): 9:17pm On Mar 07, 2012
@tpia, Obviously you don't get it, no of fence, let me explain briefly, in the earlier years from the testimonies of our parents, going overseas was not a big thing, Nigeria was good, people went overseas and came back, our currency was good and hence visa denials or humiliation @ foreign airport was a rare occurrence simply because the life our parents could live in Nigeria Was great perhaps better than it would be overseas. You mentioned people also obtaining visas in Nigeria, of course, even in Somalia and Sudan, I am sure people still obtain visas, but the way people are treated at some of these embassies and the unjustifiable refusal and bogus requirement a times really makes me wonder.I am proud that both SA and Nigeria are on the African continent and there is a slogan here where Nigerians and south Africans refer to each other as 'my brother from another mother', that's what being home from home is. As much as there are a lot of whites here, I think (standing to be corrected if wrong)SA is still one of the few countries where companies must have black people in all levels of management, it's called employment equity. If Nigeria had not been degraded by our leaders, there is no reason why an I should apply for a visa to go see the world and you would refuse me a visa and ask me for unreasonable requirements just because I am a Nigerian if not that you believe that my country is that bad that I am likely not to return. I reiterate my love for Nigeria, I refuse to carry or be identified by any other passport but my green Nigerian passport, it does cost me atimes( e.g when I and my wife first applied for our first us visa, I was only given a 2yrs visa as against my wife's 10 years and that meant I had to go apply again last year and still was only given a 2 years again while all my friends using thier SA passport were given 10 years). But above all I am sure that if only we acknowledge where we are, we will know we have a lot to do if we are to move this great great country Nigeria forward. I read people's posts on nairaland land all across the diaspora and you know what, Nigeria is a country of great intelligent people.
@ojdollars, white brown happens to be my wife and I Seldomly post under her login name, we stay in Pretoria east, faerie glen to be precise.

I am a very proud Nigerian and reside here in SA, there are lots of Nigerians here who are doing very very great, I have doctor friends, lawyers and even civil engineers and I also know there are people who are really dragging our name down here. As much as there are europeans and even other Africans here who do shady things, Nigerians are always the ones who get exposed, you know why? Because of our arrogance . I travel a lot to Europe and the U.S and I say, in the even that I decide to leave SA which has been my home for 14yrs now, my only possible destination will be back home to Nigeria where I visit at least 4 times a year. Bottom line is, some of these incidences like the SAA and Arik passenger refusal are not baseless. on my last visit home, I went to the government health office there in MMIA to obtain a vaccination, I was issued the card for N1000 which I believe is the official amt as I saw them write it in the book but was told there were no vaccines and I can come obtain one on my next visit. I was not asked for any bribe or anything, hence it's seem more like govt incompetence than corruption. Again I read a comment that someone made about South Africans not traveling because they don't even know where to go or are too stupid to travel, I am talking from what I know, any South African who has anything doing in SA would be the most stupid person to go live in Europe, for what? When we arrived here years ago, i remember everyone's dream was to proceed to Europe from here, the moment we began to get jobs, obtain our residences, etc, visas to wherever became one of the easiest things to obtain, ironically people where sitting with visas to u.s and uk for example, in their passports but no one was really traveling. When I went to renew my U.S visa last year August, I made payment online say today and got an appointment for tomorrow, my 'so called' interview when less than a minute, except for a man from ethiopia I think, nobody I saw that day was refused visa (at least not when I was there) . I love my country Nigeria and when we have short comings, let us accept and continue to work towards restoring our country to what it used to be. It's time we stop being egoistic and living like we are oblivious to these happenings, if we don't tidy up, the world will spread our dirty linen out in the open.

Afternoon,

My sister inlaw went for her interview today with her kids & all went well but she was asked to come back with photos of herself & kids through their lives together e.g child christening, birthdays, event e.t.c to show that they are her kids. We find this a bit weird as she had birth certificates, is this normal? Has anyone ever heard of this of experienced this before?

Please advise

Tosin, I don't even know where to begin, firstly we are in SA & we can't do much from our side, what happened was she was married & the husband passed away & they have 2 kids together, she is a christiaan & due to her belief she changed her last name to the hubby 1st name, my hubby last name is Ogundaisi & i speak under correction (I think Ogun mean god of iron) I am south African so I might be wrong but all I know is that her family were not happy with her changing her name coz she did not want to bear the name due her beliefs, we are all christiaan & I guess she felt right changed though no one agreed. Cut story short, when she applied for the dv lot she used her old name, then when result came out she had already changed to her new name & already obtained passport as there were due to come to SA, so now the issue is she can't apply using passports because of the name change & had to now apply for change of name to the old one & resume with the dv process, bt the passport has been delaying so she could not do anything, worse when she checked her mail last week it dawned to her that her interview date is next week, so we are keeping fingers crossed that the passports comes out today so she can resume with police report & medicals for herself ( the kids are under 10, so I think from what a read they do not need meds but immunization cards only). So is there no way to get medical result in 2 days or faster.

Please advise regarding the affidavit of sponsor as well.

Morning,

Can anyone please help with info, I have a sister in law who is in Lagos & she is one of the 2012 dv lottery winners with her 2 kids (husband passed on). Her interview date is next week & she has not done any police report nor medical test yet as she had problems with her passports due to name changes but hopefully it should be out today or tomorrow in Abuja.
Can you pease advise if it is possible for her to reschedule her date with the embassy & if not, will it be possible for her to still complete her police report, medical test before Thursday? Also advise regarding afidavit of support from sponsor & any tips one can give regarding interview process.

Your response will be highly appreciated

Thanks

Travel / Re: Usa Visit Visa by whitebrown(f): 4:00pm On Dec 06, 2011
Interesting post,

I was granted a B1/B2 US visa for ten years this September with my SA passport & my Hubby on his Nigerian passport for 2years, all i will say is it does not take magic to get one & no funny tricks as it will get you in trouble & a lot of first time visitors were granted visas, those who were denied were going for a conference & have been working for a few months or were students attending an expo that did not relate to what they were studying.

Fill in your D160 & submit online then pay fee online with your Visa card or bank deposit with the reference number being your passport number to schedule for an appointment, i am aware in Nigeria it can takes as long as 3months but in SA you can even get it the next day. All we took were passports (which had previous visas for uk & italy) , 1 id photos, bank statements for 3months & a letter from the work stating i have leave available & that i work the Co.
The interview took 2-3minutes max, everybody in the hall were asked similar questions e.g
Where in the US are you going?
Reason for going?
Do you have property?
How long are you inteding to be there?
Do you have kids?
And for those attending conference they were asked to elaborate. after that 2min that feels like forever you hear the magic words " your visa has been granted, It will be delivered in 3 to 5days"

Business / Re: Dog Food Business by whitebrown(f): 2:09pm On Nov 29, 2011
being into breeding for about 10years here in SA and know 90% of the top breeders here personally, the idea of dog food came when on visit to Nigeria i noticed the extent people go to feed their dogs and most even cook for them, still the dogs dont turn out mostly the way they should and lots battle to fall pregnant, once got a puppy for a client, bought the litter mate and kept here and after six months the difference was just glaring,Nigerians tend to go the raw diet route but to do it right, it actually cost you more because the meat and veggies you give are supposed to be human grade(fit for human consumption) not dead foetus and the rest. Again you can really never get the right mix of the raw food, people here use recipes given by animal nutritionist, some developed for the specific dog or breed.
I am not interested in "fly by night business", by this i mean i was thinking of bringing a brand to Nigeria that is trusted and reputable and something that will always be available (not your shelf brands like pedigree, alpo, etc which are regarded as crap quality dog food here and will not be feed to dogs by any breeder). Also thinking of your dog dips, quality dewormers, fly sprays, etc as i have access to and good relationships with the sources of these products(as in the companies themselves).

Travel / Re: Visa Interview Date With The American Embassy, Any Advice? by whitebrown(f): 5:29pm On Oct 24, 2011
Try to schedule their appointment on the website & change your location then compare next date available.
I applied for mine last month in SA & got app date for the next week but my partner applied & got his app date the next day, so inorder to get an earlier date i just change my app location from Johannesburg to Cape Town & i got available date for the next 3days.

Try that & see if it will work, take into account that in SA the embassies are never as busy as Nigeria.

dear poster
i read your request for information and am completely appauled at the posting of the guy who spoke of a work permit for R500 etc. I am a chartered accountant and has being here for 13years now, i will be very very frank with you, obtaining a work permit here is far from easy, i know because i had a brothers friend who came here last year and was accomodated for about 4 months by me, he lost money trying to secure a work permit, i had another friend who is a medical doctor, obtained a work permit using people who claim thats what they do, he travelled home to Nigeria and was refused entry back and countless other cases. I see lots of nigerians here males and females carrying placards for barbing and females plating here and mostly i ask, is it worth it coming here ? The crime is really nothing to worry about as most people paint it, i truly believe it is over exaggerated, of course you will not put yourself at risk intentionally, the requirements for work permits are very tedious and even for a company hiring a professional, they must proof that the post was advertised in a newspaper, they tried all means to hire someone locally but could not find anyone with the skill required and lots of other things. To come here and hassle ?
Even those with work permits (professionals) thats all you have, your work and work permit. To open a proper bank account is an issue as they will only let you open the ones that offers little or no benefits. Its a credit economy but you will not have access to any of these credit benefits, not because they are discriminatory, but because the system only recognizes their SA bar coded id which only citizens and permanent resident holders are given.think 2wice
