Why Name the Centre after Him?

While Dr. John Randle himself was not Yorùbá by name, his contributions to Lagos and his passion for native rights align with the center's mission.

Naming the center after him recognizes his legacy and the intersection of cultures in Lagos. It's a way to honor a Lagosian who fought for the same rights and benefits enjoyed by British doctors, while also celebrating Yoruba culture and history.

HONG KONG, April 15 (Reuters) - Beijing authorities are investigating Sunday's Beijing's half-marathon after footage shared online showed three African runners appearing to slow down near the finish line to allow China's He Jie to overtake them and win.

A public hospital in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, has laid off 100 doctors who are taking part in a nationwide strike that has been ongoing for almost a month, its management said Tuesday.

The Kenyatta University Referral Hospital said new doctors had been hired in place of those striking.

Doctors in Kenya went on a nationwide strike in mid-March demanding better pay and working conditions.

President William Ruto on Sunday broke his silence over the strike saying there was no money to pay striking doctors.

“We must be honest with ourselves and the truth is that we must live within our means, we can’t borrow money to pay salaries”, Ruto said.

The doctors’ union has remained adamant, and on Tuesday hundreds of doctors took part in protests and presented a petition to parliament urging lawmakers to intervene in their labor dispute.

This is not the first time Kenyan doctors are striking over poor pay and working conditions. In 2017 doctors took part in a 100-day strike that saw people dying from lack of care. The strike ended with the doctors’ union signing an agreement with the government to increase their pay.

Doctors now say part of what was agreed upon in 2017 has not been implemented.

In a communique signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Teaching Service, Mrs. Funmilayo Akinola, no teacher would be employed by the Commission through “back door.” The teachers to be employed must have very good scores in the aptitude test in the recruitment interview.

Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru XXXIII, a spiritual leader in the Nungua area of the capital, Accra, wed the unidentified child in a huge ceremony on Saturday March 30, 2024.

However, the girl has been placed under police protection in Ghana, according to a report from the New York Times.

Although the girl has been placed under protective custody, no news about the arrest of the priest and the participants of the wedding ceremony.

Leaders of the Nungua indigenous community, to which the priest and the girl belong, said the public outrage that followed the event “comes from a point of ignorance.”

The girl’s role in the marriage is “purely tradition and custom,” says the local leader of the community, Nii Bortey Kofi Frankwa II.

The legal age to get married in Ghana is 18, and local laws do not allow child marriages under the guise of culture or custom.

However, according to the Girls Not Brides NGO, 19% of girls in Ghana are married before the age of 18 and 5% are married off before their 15th birthday.

According to Olabimtan, appointments of teachers under this dispensation will be by Community by Community and Local Government by Local Government meaning that the Board would do everything humanly and administratively possible to ensure the new teachers to be recruited stay in their locality for at least five years before requesting for transfer

The only way to make the new Teachers stay and teach in their duty post is to ensure native of a particular area and Local Government are recruited to teach in their localities, Communities and Local Government.

The former Speaker Ondo State House of Assembly opined only citizens of a Local Government like Ilaje, Ese -Odo, Irele and Odigbo because of the Special nature of these areas will be recruited to teach in their Schools.

I Identify As A Dog — I Go To The Bathroom Outside, Sleep In A Crate And Have Handlers

Every dog has its day — and doggone it today is hers.

Sleeping in a crate, pooping outdoors and being rewarded with doggy biscuits for good behavior seem like any pup’s fantasy.

But, instead, streamer Meow Dalyn is the one happily assuming the carefree life of a canine.

“My name is Meow like a cat, but I am a dog,” the pink-haired pup-woman, from the US, explained to hosts of Australian radio broadcast “The Kyle & Jackie O Show” Wednesday.

Donning a pair of faux dog ears and a collar, Dalyn, who refers to herself as “dog girl” and “e-puppy,” said she identifies as a dog and has fully immersed herself into the outré lifestyle — even when it comes to nighttime practices.

“I have pastel blankets and pastel pillows in there,” Dalyn added of the dog cage she sleeps in each evening. “Something about being in a confined space, I don’t know if it makes me feel safe from the world or makes me feel like the world is safe from me, but it feels comfortable for sure!.”

Dalyn, who regularly regales her over 15,000 Twitch viewers with her hound-like habits — including playing games of fetch and gnawing on bones — said she began embracing her big dog energy after becoming an independent adult.

“The wonder that comes with play and just being enchanted with life around you is a beautiful thing,” she said. “I’m not sure if I ever put two and two together that I had to stop that whenever I became an adult.”

“I figured that once I make my own money and pay my own rent, then I can extra do anything I want — and I wanted to be a dog!”

Dalyn, too, enjoys the company of others who freely indulge in her fur ball tomfoolery.

“I have handlers,” the wild woman explained when asked if she had a boyfriend. “[They’re] kind of like dog trainers.”

“They feed me, they take me on walks, we practice training, which is one of my favorite things, because I get treats,” she said, adding that her snacks are often shredded chicken, biscuits and jerky.

The wannabe barker also claims to incorporate actual dog food into her diet, saying she and her team of three handlers often add bone broth and other human ingredients to spice up the otherwise “bland” meals.

And Dalyn says the trainers are helping her achieve the doggie dream without charging a penny.

“It’s funny I don’t have to pay anyone to spend time with me,” said the cosplayer, adding that she doesn’t have a sexual relationship with the handlers. Instead, she simply considers her assistants to be friends who share her interest in puppy play.

The crossbreed, too, revealed that she beds her beastly behavior when she does enjoy a roll in the hay.

“The dog side of me is an everyday lifestyle,” she explained. “So I find myself not needing that in the bedroom at all.”

But Dalyn does hope that others will begin embracing their inner-Fido as a way of life.

“I believe there is a primal animal inside of everybody,” she said. “It’s part of our humanity.”

“Acknowledging my primal, animalistic [side] almost makes me feel more human.”

But until the world agrees to share her dogs-eye point of view, Dalyn is masterfully ignoring hateful looks and shady rebukes from disapproving detractors.

“I don’t find myself focusing on other people and their reactions toward me because I’m so in the moment of just chasing the ball, being the dog,” Dalyn said of the shock her antics receive when she’s publicly living as a puppy.

“I want to sit and perform for whoever is my focus.”

Robin Denice Conner, a Mississippi officer, has been arrested by her colleagues for allegedly shoplifting sneakers while on duty and in uniform.

Now-fired Columbus Officer Robin Conner, 33, was busted Wednesday at a Dick’s Sporting Goods when an employee stopped her walking out in a $140 pair of tennis shoes. She was immediately arrested and taken in her own police squad car.

“It’s embarrassing for the department, but we’re going to treat her like we would anybody else,” says police chief, Joseph Daughtry.

Daughtry said a store employee caught Conner trying to steal the shoes, and detained her before calling 911.

The store employee reported the officer was in uniform, dispatchers called a supervisor at Conner’s own precinct — with Chief Daughtry and his assistant chief responding along with the officer’s captain.

Conner’s colleagues then arrested her and brought her to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center in her own patrol car.

She is also charged with misdemeanor shoplifting for stealing goods worth less than $1,000 and was given an $862 surety bond.

“And the community is just starting to trust us — and to take this gut punch really hurts,” Daughtry told the local news station.
