Politics / Re: "Do Not Vote For A Muslim President" - Pastor Paul Adefarasin by wolerex(m): 11:02am On Nov 18, 2010
there is a fundamental flaw being demonstrated in this debate. it shows that for too long, we have been pawns in power games by various interest groups and rarely focus on the core issue.

The ethnicity or religious bias of a leader or potential leader is immaterial to what actually motivates him or her. The prime mover of sharia in Nigeria was a young man - yerima sanni and he used it as a religious tool to acquire political influence  AND IT WORKED! I visited zamfara during the boom season of sharia and folks, it was a sorry sight that other than posters of yerima and a few painted mosques, NOTHING HAPPENED THERE. ooo by the way, there was plenty of booze available for the elite!

SIMILARLY, many "christians" dust up their bibles, acquire a pastor to anoint them and postulate their holy credentials to acquire power, when they get there? they joined the yerimas and loot the treasury whilst also living a decadent lifestyle!

so here is the big question, WHEN WILL WE AS A PEOPLE learn to judge people on their capacity for true leadership NOT the alliances whether christian, muslim, yoruba or ijaw that they profess?

i agree with some earlier posters, a country with the likes of Shekarau in Kano, Fashola in Lagos deserves far better but such people only get into office BY ACCIDENT!

Nigeria is a place where patronage rules! that needs to stop and change.

LETS MAKE 2011 A YEAR OF ELECTORAL ACCIDENTS for all the looters, pretenders, bigots, politicians who seek to make us dummies again.

believe me, history shows that EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD, religion is a tool used by those craving power to perpetuate themselves closely followed by ethnic bigotry.

the Oluwani sola bypass is being constructed by Cityscape (developers of Buena Vista estate) and Legacy (developers of Ocean Bay) are part-funding it. its 100% private sector financed and driven to serve the two estates and their immediate neighbors.

hi landis! there's a tournament @ ikoyi club this weekend. means the course is closed for open play. for how long are you in town?
Sports / Re: Golf In Nigeria by wolerex(m): 6:22pm On Aug 01, 2008
@ GAMINE - you are turning out to be a very interesting student! the caddies are there to help ensure your play and enjoy yourself without damaging the course
Sports / Re: Golf In Nigeria by wolerex(m): 5:42pm On Aug 01, 2008
in theory, they dont! but in practice, being a members club and the golf section is particularly more closed! its assumed that for you to be playing on the course, you are either a member or the guest of a member, who automatically "owns responsibility for your abiding by the ethics of the game".

but of greater importance is that the clubs caddies "hand hold" players on the field.

@ gamine - fret not, its not what you think wink, bunkers are obstacles designed to make your life hell on the course

that can be arranged. Send me an email, if you truly want to play and i will sort it out for you. to answer, your question, yes you are invited.
Sports / Re: Golf In Nigeria by wolerex(m): 6:00pm On Jul 30, 2008
its actually a good way to de-stress, if you want to play in lagos, you can come as a guest to ikoyi club! give it a thought. it will slowly consume you if you get into it, but its fantastic for de-stressing
Sports / Re: Golf In Nigeria by wolerex(m): 5:37pm On Jul 30, 2008
Hi again Landis! you should enjoy IBB Golf course, havent played it, but conventional wisdom is that its pretty good. as for the existence of ranges and mini courses (being anything below 9 holes), i dont know of any existing ones. I will ask one of the pro players at ikoyi club next week.

but you are right, more ranges, would attract higher interest to the game.

at Gamine, sounds like you are looking forward to landis coming to town! cheesy

hi landis,

there are quite a number of clubs across the country but most require you to be a member or the guest of a member. ikoyi club, allows members' guests to play for token pre-defined fees BUT i dont think it allows "walk-in" day players.

I think sagamu is still active, though its more of a brown than green. i know miccom allows guests of the hotel to play on their course. the akwa-ibom course in uyo also allows the guests of its hotel to play for a minimal fee.

i wouldnt worry too much about the clubs, IF you plan to play at any of the established clubs, you will get clbs for hire there. hope this helps!!

hi, if you are really serious about the golf tour, you can play at eiter ikoyi club or ikeja club in lagos. i know you can rent clubs @ ikoyi club range for that purpose. there are quite a lot of other courses. Sagamu in ogun state is also an option. i hear Abeokuta course is a absolute horror (never tried it) and there is the miccom course in osun, looks decepptively simple (been there once but couldnt play cos was there for an event). hope above info is helpful

Business / Re: Alhaji Aliko Dangote: What do you know about him? by wolerex(m): 5:07pm On Jan 25, 2006
i feel that it's the basic nature of man at work. we tend to question others and hold them to standards we might struggle to measure up to if given the chance.

i wonder what many of us would do differently if truly given the chance to be in his shoes.
Business / Re: Alhaji Aliko Dangote: What do you know about him? by wolerex(m): 11:18am On Jan 18, 2006
if i may contribute to this debate; i do not know dangote personally but i do function in a sector affected directly by his business moves. i frankly respect his guts. Its critical to note that he has INVESTED in putting infrastructures in place which is quite at variance with what a LOT of other "Nigerian Businessmen" do.

yes he relies heavily on political patronage to up the ante but that is a fixture in any emerging economy. for those who study history, anti trust laws in the US were borne out of a need to cut people like Rockefeller of standard oil and co to size. it has even been used successfully against almighty Bill Gates

A trite principle of business is to stay ahead and keep your competition in check. In my opinion Dangote is doing a good job of that and also creating employment in the process too. Q.E.D

p.s. the arguement that he should play on the international market to prove his worth makes no sense. when he finishes sewing up the nigerian market IF HE SUCCEEDS , then he can attempt 2 do that. as a further aside, why should he even bother trying to prove a point to any of us?

u guys are hilarious! on the issue of dressing, anyone remember lakeside and high waist trousers, baggies big enough for human heads. shocked the days when rap was all about grandmaster flash & kurtis blow. Billy Ocean & Lionel Ritchie where considered to be sex symbols and usher was a skinny squeaky voiced baby!!!!!

in all seriousness, i feel we don't need a special page to discuss whatever catches our fancy. this thread is proof enough of that fact.

let's face it, when am bored, reading some of the atrocious comments from the younger forum mebers does crack me up. who amongst us wil deny having been obnoxious in the past anyway smiley

howdy all,

truth be told, this forum is probably one of the best kept secrets on the web (kudos to all who have kept it going till now).

can anyone remember when Teddy Pendergrass was the king of ballards, Whitney could do no wrong, Micheal was sane & life was simpler.

But hey let's get real times change and so do people. cry

am 34 & i do not feel old (thank you). But that does'nt mean i understand some of what passes for conversations now (have got a younger sibling in law school & half of her conversation makes no sense to me. Now i understand how my father feels!! grin
Business / Re: ShopRite Nigeria by wolerex(m): 6:28pm On Jan 17, 2006
what are their products like? are they foreign/african/nigerian sourced or a combination

hi all, am new to this forum (quite interesting though). Shoprite is a South African Discount Chain that prides itself on stocking products at the most competitive rates possible. in order to achieve that they buy as many things as possible from nigerian sources and bring the rest in!

on the issue of low prices, they actually do weekly bonanzas and slash prices on selected items. for anyone around back in the day, its kind of like the old leventis and kingsway stores. hope this helps...

you can get more information by checking for information on The Palms, Lekki (that's the name of the mall)
