I was meant to start a new job on Wednesday. Almost everything set. Just to undergo a short training. They just sent an email that the offer is on hold till further notice.
I'm trying not to think too much of it.

Be strong. I would advise you look for a temp job because no one knows how long this will last

Many PR were senior bosses in Nigeria, to start advertising Walmart and Amazon jobs may be depressing to some. I'm curious, where can one go to for White collar jobs, any good job website?

My advert is for those that need it., A lot of companies are taking a step back from recruitment as they are looking at the long term effects of Covid-19 on the economy. People that have landed and may not have the opportunity to find white collar jobs will appreciate the information rather than spend their POF. No one knows how long this will last.

Also, there is dignity of labour here. Whatever you are doing to put food on the table as long as it is legal.

The best treatment and prevention for coronavorus is ethanol Fashola was right
Either by using strong alcohol to wash the hands, or the guy tract by ingesting and hanging it before swallowing or spilling, or by outright consumption, Ethanol is the best treatment for Coronavirus.
I don't have time to make careful and prudent explanation, but if are around anyone with it or that wants to prevent it, let them get alcohol, please not above 35% alcohol base.
As long as it is Unflavored alcohol. It can work effectively for prevention and treatment. The virus can't withstand the chemical strength of ethanol, hence alcohol is it's most potent enemy
Please share this information

This is not true! Totally FALSE. It will kill you faster than the virus will. Do not swallow Ethanol as a protective or curative method.

People have DIED from this.

I and a friend was discussing about moving to smaller towns with 3000 population. But some friends are discouraging it. I read in a journal that there are jobs in those smaller towns and cities, great urban life, cheaper accommodation for immigrants. But some of us love the bigger cities where we watch skyscrappers beautify our eyes. I'm still in Nigeria, but considering moving to smaller towns with population less than 10k when i get to canada. I hope i'm not making any mistake

It depends on what your skillset is and your work experience. Someone who's work experience has been at the kind of work you typically find in the HQ of a bank might not get jobs in the smaller towns. You will apply for Finance jobs (example) and they won't call you for interview because of your skillset. A lawyer might not be able set up practice there, etc. What is usually readily available will be customer service and retail jobs. So do a quick check of available jobs there and see if it matches your skillset.

Also, it's a wrong mindset to have that people love bigger cities for skyscrapers. There is a reason that bigger cities attract more people.

@Kenn55, i totally agree with you. Just that you have to ensure there is a direct commute. Not like you work in Brampton and then live in London. Oyo for you. If you have kids, you want a parent to be working nearby just in case they call from the school or daycare and you need to be there in a jiffy.

3k for rent? shocked shocked shocked

That's Toronto price. Other areas in the GTA are between 2k and 3k for rent. Except you want basements.

What role? What specialty?

It can range from $15/hr as a PSW to $200/hr as a Cardiothoracic surgeon.

Average monthly living expenses for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) in the Toronto area will be somewhere between $3,000 to $4,000.

I would say between $4,000 and $6,000. Rent is about $3,000. Then there might be daycare costs, etc.

Good evening house.... I'm a civil servant and on verge of completing my Ican exams. And I'm also running a linkage program(bsc top-up) with my hnd certificate. My question is I plan to settle down in Canada soon but i read somewhere on the thread that wes doesn't recognize ican... (Thinking of converting that to Acca though) but its not likely I convert to acca here in Nigeria. My plan is to go there for my masters program not acca conversion.... Now will 3.5 million naira be adequate if I intend staying over for long?? Prompt response will be highly appreciated. Thanks

I don't really know about the monetary aspect of your question but i would suggest you start the ACCA conversion and then complete it. With ICAN, you have to start CPA from scratch while ACCA, it's just tax and IT something that you can do at your leisure. Consider it because CPA will pay you very well in Canada.

Hello all,

Please ooo, for people in Ontario, are there remote jobs I can do for now? I am heavily pregnant and may not be able to work long hours but I need to do something. I am also considering taking a course but I still don't know which one is more lucrative.

I studied Accounting, have my ACCA, but I have about 4years experience in Banking only.

Biko, any suggestion is welcome.

Would you consider customer service or book keeping? I heard there are some work from home opportunities for these.

Hello guys, going through this thread has been so helpful I am so grateful. How feasible is it for one to get into Medical school with a first degree in a science course from Nigeria? Or are there other courses you would advise should be done first for a higher chance of getting admitted? I'm open to advise from all, thanks for your anticipated response.

Medical school is very competitive to get into in Canada. Less than 30% of all applicants are selected, 15% for Ontario. You need WES evaluation of your 4 year degree, MCAT SCORE depending on the university cut off, TOEFL score, minimum CGPA score as well as good references.

Nothing wrong in her parents funding some or most of the wedding. However, i see deeper issues at play here.
Seems he doesn't want the wife to keep relying on daddy which is going to be a big problem.
Her: "Honey, can we go to Dubai for shopping?"
Him: "No"
Her: "Don't worry, I will ask daddy for the money"
Him:

If he is not ready to agree to such happening during his marriage (including the plenty fight about money that looks sure to happen), he should quietly walk away now.

Hello House,

I want to find out what is the exact importance of letter of good standing.?
I requested for my transcript and letter of good standing but got a mail that my transcript has been processed and sent to Wes however my letter or good standing was not due to the fact that I have not paid my 2020 subscription fees.

Will my verification be affected because of the absence of the letter. I want to know as I xany afford the payment at the moment.

FOr WES, they do not need Letter of good standing. It is useful when you want to convert to CPA.

Hello all, does anyone know what is required from the employer to be able to bring someone through this route? I want to bring my cousin this way. Does anyone know if she can be enrolled in part time school while amassing the 2 years work experience before she can be a PR?

Thanks but I am not applying for exemption. I want to sit for the exams right from Certificate Level to Strategic Level without taking advantage of MRA.

The MRA comes in when you have completed the CIMA stages and gotten a certificate. The MRA is with CPA after you are done with the last paper. But won't add to your WES evaluation.

What if i decide not to stop at Certificate Level but go ahead to complete the whole programme (Strategic Level). What do you think would be my chances?
Please i need quick response.

When you complete it, you can apply for MRA with CPA so that you con convert. It doesn't boost your score if i remember correctly.

Hi... Please could you explain how the Hellofax thing works?

Google Hellofax. I think it gives you 5 free credits to fax 5 pages. It is quick and cheap.

Follow the steps on their website. Don't forget to include a cover page that will have your name, description of what you are sending and WES reference number (very important).

Hello,

I want to ask if you completed your CIMA before you moved to Canada.

I soft landed last month, but now I'm back and hoping to write CIMA in May or September. I did register with CIMA before I travelled.

I just started.

Do you mind if I ask you how much you paid for the ICAN/CIMA conversion?
And whether the 5 years post qualifications is sacrosanct?

I haven't even written the CIMA yet. I have registered and finally will write sometime in May.

Good day guys

For those that did ACCA - CPA ALBERTA Conversion, please help clarify the requirements below which I found on CPA ALBERTA's website. It says, to qualify under the MRA with ACCA, it must be that:

"You did not receive your ACCA designation by virtue of a third party agreement ACCA has with any other accounting bodies"

How does this apply to exemptions received by virtue of ICAN qualification please?

Thanks in advance for clarification

My understanding of this is that if you did not have to pass any qualifying exams before you could get the designation then you are not qualified. For example, if ICAN and ACCA had an MRA the way CPA has an MRA with ACCA, you would not qualify. But if you had to write a qualifying exam before getting the designation, then you are good to go.

I was thinking of that route too (ACCA)

But my ojukokoro was telling me why write 4 papers when you can write just one for CIMA?

But you raised a valid point.

All die na die. I am currently going through the CIMA route to get my CPA.
Whether you take 1 exemption or 20 exemptions, as long as you write exams to qualify to be awarded the designation, you are good to go.
