sooper rescue: When you changed the transmission oil, what ATF oil did you use? Secondly, your passat is very mindful of the fuel you use. It does not tolerate regular unleaded. The issue with transmissions in Passat is a legendary one that even VW in Germany could not help, concerning gear box failures in Nigeria. What I will suggest in the interim is to check the gear brain box by the pigeon hole. Maybe the cables you complained of were the cables that is linked to the gear brain box. wow, thanks a lot this is really an interesting insight. But please how do I know if the box is faulty? Will faults in the box be detected if I scan the car? Is it a repairable or replaceable part? Please I need more clarification. Thank you. |

[quote author=zakaliyu]Make; Volkswagen Model, passat Engine size, 2.8L, V6, 30V Year, 2002-2003 Transmission, 5-speed triptronic Specification, US Drive configuration, 4 motion, AWD Oga sir, how are you? How's the cold weather? I sincerely hope all is well with you. Please sir I have a problem with my transmission, I noticed kick if I move from Parking to Drive or From parking to reverse. I was told it is the transmission oil that I need to change, which I eventually did replace it. It stopped for about a month and continued the kick again, this time around if I am driving and raised my leg from the throttle the car will make a noise as if the gear has jumped and jerk a little. We also discovered that some cables are burnt, the cables are behind the pigeon hole. I have repaired/ replace the cables, but the transmission is still misbehaving. Another thing is that if I put the transmission in manual it runs smoothly, but it's tiring. Please sir help me out. Thank you for your anticipated support. |

I have a VW Passat V6 4motion 2002 model, I hear a rattling and knocking sound each time I am driving on a rough road. The sound is from the drivers side wheel, and each time I am making a sharp bend the OBD will display brake failure with a warning peeeep!! Sound. Although the brake will be functioning properly. A road side mechanic, said it is the tie rod, and he change it in my presence. The sound is still coming from the same wheel and the brake failure is still displaying if I make a bend. Please Oga Siena help me unravel this situation. Thank you. |

@Siena I also forgot to inform you that a friend living in Enugu here in Nigeria, has a similar problem, we spoke about you with him and he is also interested in buying parts from UK. Or buying an engine too, he has same car as my own. V6 4motion passat. |

@Siena I want u to please prepare a pro forma invoice for me, the invoice will include all you think I will be needing. The water pump, gaskets, tappets, valves, cylinder head bolts, and all other things you think I require. The other thing I want to ask is the cost of importing a fairly used engine, incase if the cost of the items will equal the cost or the engine. Please note that my AC compressor and Alternator are in good condition. So the fairly used engine will not include those items. You can send the invoice to my email,(zakaliyu75@yahoo.com) thanks a lot. |

And do you know any VW good mechanic around Abuja? |

@Siena, my network develop a slight problem that was why I was out. But now am back. In relation to your questions, below is the answers I know. a) Head gaskets were replaced b) not sure I know it, but sure the mechanic did not change it. c) they were not changed d) not replaced e) not replaced f) not even sure if the mechanic knows what it is. g) the valves on both occasion were used one's (tokumbo) grade one, according to the part sellers Please what else do you want to know? Or what do I do? |

Make; Volkswagen Model, passat Engine size, 2.8L, V6, 30V Year, 2002-2003 Transmission, 5-speed triptronic Specification, US Drive configuration, 4 motion, AWD Issues; (12)&(04) My problem started when my timing belt got worn out(some of the teeth got removed). It happened as I was about entering my gate and I heard the engine noise got slower, I opened the hood to check maybe the fan belt is off but it was intact. Then I drove inside and turn off the engine, I tried starting but it refuse even though the crank is turning. I called a mechanic who confirm it is the timing belt. We replace the belt and start the car, but the engine begin to vibrate. The mechanic said some valves are bent. The mechanic opened the top cylinders and replace the bent valves, but intact from then the car became from bad to worst. From then the car became undrivable, I had to tow the car to Zuba(a town close to the federal capital Abuja). The mechanics at zuba made me change the passenger's side top cylinder, the oil pump, gaskets, and fan. The car started properly, but on a test drive after 40km the engine stop and won't start again. We discovered the timing belt has cut off, and the mechanic replaced the valves, grind them, and put another timing belt. The car became drivable but the engine is vibrating just like the first time we replace the belt. I drove the car for a week before the engine stopped on motion again. Please what do I do? Should I replace the engine? Or can you refer me to a mechanic in Abuja? Cos I live close to Abuja. And How much will the engine cost? (an idea please) I am desperate. |
