The People's Democratic Party PDP rejects in its entirety, the attempts by President Buhari to foist an illegal Chief Justice on the nation while the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen is still in office.

PDP firmly holds that such impunity cannot stand, as Nigeria is a nation governed by law and not by the whims and caprices of a dictatorial leader. Buhari wants to ruin our country and we will never allow him.

PDP says Nigerians must reject the incendiary move by Buhari to forcefully suspend our constitution, annex the judicial arm of govt and open the nation up for full-blown totalitarianism to achieve his self-succession bid, having realized that he cannot win in the 2019 election.

President Buhari’s action in attempting to unilaterally appoint a Chief Justice and foist him on our country is a direct invitation to anarchy, national confusion and a monumental crisis capable of derailing our democracy and destroying our corporate existence as a nation.


It is now clear to the world that Buhari , in his selfish self-succession bid, is out to cause mayhem in our nation and truncate the smooth conduct of the 2019 election, not minding the consequential human and material losses.

There can be no two Chief Justices of Nigeria. Our constitution is clear on how a CJ is appointed and removed as such does not lie on the prerogative of the President. As such, we urge all Nigerians and the international community to recognize only Justice Onnoghen as the CJN.

Furthermore, PDP invites the international community and particularly the United States and the United Kingdom to note that this assault on the judiciary is geared towards subverting the 2019 general elections and as such immediately list Buhari and APC leaders for proposed sanctions on election riggers and perpetrators of violence in the general election.

The world already knows how the Buhari administration has been trying to compromise the electoral process, including the refusal to sign the amendment to the Electoral Act as well as the foisting of Mr. President’s relation by marriage, Mrs. Amina Zakari to coordinate the collation of Presidential election results.


The PDP wants President Buhari to know that this nation belongs to all Nigerians. Our nation is a democratic state governed by the constitution and the law and Nigerians will never allow anybody to appropriate rulership to himself outside the dictates of the law.

President Buhari tried to forcefully remove the leadership of the National Assembly and fail. His attempt to annex the judiciary and impose a Chief Justice that will surrender the judiciary to him, is also already dead on arrival.

Finally, the PDP calls on the National Assembly to immediately reconvene and proceed with legislative actions against President Buhari for this gross misconduct.

The purported suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari, is an anti democratic act which I reject in its entirely and call on Justice Onnoghen and the judiciary to resist with every legal and constitutional means that they can muster.

This brazen dictatorial act is the latest action in the ongoing rape of our nation’s hard earned democracy by those who dined with anti democratic forces, and is symptomatic of the increasing desperation that President Buhari and the cabal pulling the strings have as February 16, 2019 draws near.

The fact that the unlawful suspension of Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen was announced just as it became public knowledge that the CJN was constituting the election petition tribunals is not lost on discerning Nigerians and the international community. This act of desperation is geared towards affecting the outcome of the 2019 Presidential elections. Indeed, it is not just the CJN that has been "suspended", it is the Nigerian Constitution that has been infracted and, in effect, suspended, under the guise of the suspension of the CJN.

The case involving the legality or otherwise of the charges against Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen is in court, as it should be. So far, the judiciary has ruled in Justice Onnoghen’s favour. So, why not allow the court to adjudicate on the matter? What is the pressing urgency?

I want to seize this opportunity to call for unity amongst the judiciary. Do not let the Muhammadu Buhari administration divide you. Do not let this government turn you against yourselves. The judiciary is the last hope of the common man and the defender of our democracy.

I also urge the international community to follow the commendable example of the United States and the United Kingdom by intervening to make those involved in this undemocratic act know that their actions will have consequences. Strong consequences.

And to the Nigerian electorate, I call on you to save your beloved country from dictatorship by voting against President Muhammadu Buhari’s desperate war against the judiciary. Our country is falling apart under the leadership of President Buhari and it is time to stand up for democracy.

The Lagos State government has announced the commencement of the Nigerian Army Military exercise tagged “Egu Eke III” in the State as part of efforts to enhance internal security and create an enabling environment for the conduct of the 2019 General Elections.

A statement by Special Adviser to Governor on Security and Intelligence, Mr. A. A. Ajanaku noted that the exercise will focus on combating security threats such as armed robbery, communal clashes and cultism which may lead to perpetration of violence during and after the general election.

It stated that “Egu Eke III” will involve some major civil/military activities such as quick impact project and medical outreach for the benefit of all residents in the State.

The statement, therefore, solicited the support and cooperation of Chairmen of all Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas, relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies {MDAs} as well as residents for the success of the exercise.

The exercise, which had already commenced in the State early in the month of January will end on February 28, 2019.

The @OfficialPDPNig totally and vehemently rejects contemplations by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) @inecnigeria to accommodate the All Progressives Congress (APC) @OfficialAPCNg in the general elections in Rivers state.

PDP’s position is predicated on the compromising suggestion by @inecnigeria, through Mr. Festus Okoye, that certain circumstances could lead to the postponement of election, in Rivers State, to accommodate the APC, which currently do not have candidates in the elections

Such suggestion by @inecnigeria is distasteful and only points to a collusion with the @OfficialAPCNg in its plot to stalemate electoral processes in some strategic states, in order to postpone elections in such states and use compromised security forces to effect massive rigging

Currently, the @OfficialAPCNg is not on the ballot and has no candidates for the governorship, Senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly elections in Rivers and Zamfara states following the voiding of the APC congresses in these states by the court.

In line with this reality, the ballot paper in all elections in Rivers and Zamfara states must, under no circumstance, bear the logo of the @OfficialAPCNg

The @OfficialPDPNig insists that @inecnigeria must base all its actions and contemplations for the elections on this reality and should under no circumstance predicate any action on a hypothetical condition.

Unlike the @OfficialAPCNg, our party is fully prepared for the elections and will never allow the APC and some compromised @inecnigeria officials to manipulate the elections, just because the APC has seen that it has no chance of winning.

The Presidency has called on Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State to desist from basing his campaign for re-election on falsehoods concerning President Muhammadu Buhari and instead focus on the dire issues confronting the State. People's Democratic Party (PDP) has accused All Progressive Congress (APC) and Nigerian Police of fomenting crises and violent attacks against it members across the country. The party said this through statement.


The party also said, Nigerians will no longer continue to tolerate such incendiary acts by the Nigerian Police ahead of the 2019 elections.

The Party Campaign Organisation (PCO) also alleged that, there were use of brute force, including firing of tear gas by the Nigerian Police against thousands of it law-abiding members of the in Gumel, Jigawa State

The PCO equally condemns the unprovoked invasion and violent attack on the Ondo state campaign office of the PDP presidential candidate , Atiku by armed thugs sponsored by the APC.


This is in addition to series of other attacks by the APC and the Police, including arresting and detaining our members on trumped-up charges, as well as pulling down our campaign materials in various states of the federation.


It is now clear that the Buhari Presidency, having realized that their smear campaigns against our party and Presidential candidate cannot change the resolve by Nigerians to rally behind Atiku. The APC has now resorted to unleashing violence against our members.
