Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has reacted to the letter written by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, to the Senate Committee on the Humanitarian Crisis in North-East.

Saraki, who spoke through the Senate Spokesman, Sabi Abdullahi, stated that Lawal’s letter stating that he would not appear before the Senate Committee, because he had gone to court to challenge his invitation, implied that the Legislature can equally go to court to stop the entire government headed by President Muhamamdu Buhari, from working.

Recall, that the refusal of the SGF to appear before the Senate, came barely a few hours when the Customs Comptroller-General, Hammed Ali, had also declined to appear before the Senate, claiming that it would be subjudice for him to return to the Senate in uniform, since a Legal Practitioner had asked the Federal High Court, Abuja, to restrain the National Assembly from compelling him to wear uniform in the performance of his duties.
According to the Senate Spokesman, Nigeria’s democracy was heading towards total destruction, because of the refusal of the cabals in Aso Rock to honour Legislative summons.

Saraki said: “We are performing our constitutional mandate, and if anybody is going to court to stop us, then what it means is that we should all go to court and stop the entire government from working.

“That is exactly what we are saying; that if this (refusal to honour Legislative summons) continues to happen, then goodbye to democracy. It means I can even go to court to stop you from doing your work.

“We will see how that will continue to play out, and I think this is the end of democracy in Nigeria, if that continues to play out.”

Spokesman of 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Colonel Aminu Ilyasu, disclosed this in a statement, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, saying that the destruction was taking place at Igwurita shooting range between 6a.m. and 5p.m. He said that the exercise which started, yesterday, will end on Friday, adding that residents around the area where the destruction is ongoing should not panic at the sound of explosions.

JUST IN: APC Governor Involved In A Fatal Motor Accident On His Way To Welcome Buhari
The Cable is reporting that the convoy of Borno state governor Kashim Shettima was involved in a road crash on Friday, March 10. According to the report, the crash led to the death of Shettima’s senior special assistant on protocol Farouk Farouk. The accident occurred along the Abuja Kaduna expressway, a source said. A driver, who sustained injuries in the accident, has reportedly been taken to the hospital.
It could be immediately confirmed the governor was on his way to welcome the president who returned to the country after around 49 days on vacation in London, United Kingdom. Isa Gusau, spokesman of the governor, could not be reached for comments as his mobile telephone was out of reach. Shettima was not among the governors who were with Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Youth council held prayers for Buhari.
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) on Wednesday in Abuja organised a special prayer session for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari and for the general well being of the nation.
The prayers were led by the duo of Alhaji Jemilu Abubakar and Hon. Emmanuel Haaga in the Muslim and Christian ways respectively.
They urged Nigerians to also pray for the President and all leaders of the country so that the much needed rapid national development can be achieved.
Speaking at the event,President of the council,Comrade Murtala Muhammed Garba said the present administration of President Buhari has recorded massive achievements in all facets of the country including security,corruption,youth empowerment,agriculture, judiciary and transportation among others.
“It is in the light of these achievements that we the youths of this great country thought it wise to pray for God intervention in the speedy recovery of our president. We strongly believe that when he is back and strong, we shall enjoy more dividends of democracy,” Garba said.
He said those wishing the president dead are not just wicked and satanic but also enemies of Nigeria.
“As good citizens, it is our duty to always pray for our leaders, so those who do not wish Mr. President well are not only mischievous but also heartless,” he said.

The special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, on Saturday, February 11, told the Daily Post in a telephone chat that Nigerians will see Buhari when he returns to the country. He said: “If the president returns, we will all see him. He is the president of Nigeria and will not sneak in.”
When asked if his reaction was a sign he doesn’t know exactly when the president will return, Adesina replied: “Don’t put words in my mouth please.“I said when the president returns, Nigerians will see him. It’s not like he will sneak in, so let’s wait.

The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, has urged political leaders in the country to provide selfless service and good governance to the people. Going by his words “The bane of leadership in Nigeria is that the leaders are selfish; they only think of their families, “
Sanusi made the call on Wednesday in Abuja at the award presentation ceremony of ‘Most Security Conscious Governor’ to Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi by the Nigeria Police Force.
The Emir attributed the security challenges being experienced in the country to poverty and lack of education, among other factors.
“Poverty, lack of education is violence; it breeds violence because many segments of the society are denied access to basic amenities, “he said.
He urged people in position of authority to prioritise the needs of their people, adding that the lack of allocation of resources had impacted negatively on infrastructure development.
Sanusi also urged the Federal Government to tackle other forms of security challenges, having recorded a huge success in tackling insurgency in the country.
He said that security was a big challenge in the country, generally.
He said that any state that could not provide its citizens with adequate security was not fit to exist.

Buhari appoints Mohammed new TNC boss.

The President Buhari-led government has appointed Mr. Usman Gur Mohammed as the new interim Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Mr. Mohammed is on secondment from the Africa Development Bank (AFDB), the Minister of Power, Works & Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, said on Tuesday in Abuja.
In a statement released by the Deputy Director (Press) in the ministry, Mr.Etore Thomas, the minister said the appointment was born out of the need to take the company to a higher level of operational effectiveness and to perform its functions optimally.
The minister confirmed the appointment when he appeared before the National Assembly Joint Committee on Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy.
The minister had appeared before the committee following petitions written to the Senate by Staff of TCN, under the umbrella of the National Association of Electricity and Allied Companies asking the Senate to intervene.
Answering questions from the committee, the minister stated that the appointment of Mohammed had nothing to do with the AfDB’s loan to Nigeria to help reform the power sector.
He pointed out that the appointment was not a criterion for the loan, but was based on the expertise the new managing director would bring on board.
“The appointment of the interim MD for TCN was designed to ensure responsiveness to the needs of DISCOs and GENCOs, and to improve their efficiency.’’
