Re: How To Identify A Scam Interview Invitation by kelvinodum(m): 2:06pm On Sep 14, 2014
LaurelP: I have seen so many Nairalanders complaining and lamenting their ordeal in the hands of fake scam companies who invite people for interview only to introduce them to fake drug marketing business.
I'm doing this not only because these companies waste people's time, energy and T-fair going to such interviews, but also because most of these scammers extort money from hapless job seekers thereby making their suffering times two.
Imagine a scammer extorting #10,500 from a graduate who have been unemployed for years, not to talk of the transport fare wasted going to such fruitless interviews or job chat as they usually call it.
Some people even borrow money to pay these sheep in wolves clothing, who promise them heaven on earth. Some will tell you that you will make half a million within 1 month and all that. If you're not careful, you will take a loan that you will not be able to repay thus causing embarrassment and lack of rest of mind. An unemployed person should have only himself to worry about, not having debts also.

So I believe that if we are properly guided, we will not fall into the hands of these scammers.
Having said that, there are ways by which one can identify a fake or scam interview invitation and there fore avoid such waste of time and money. The good thing is that most of their messages come in the same format, so you will know its fake!

1. The message does not bear a company name: most of these scammers won't include their names on the message you will receive. All you will see are the address, the time and date and a phone number. A genuine company will not hide its identity from a potential employee.

2. The message will say "interview/job briefing": whatever job briefing means I don't know!
3. You will see a code or reference: something like "HR=0056" or "REF=002". This is an indication of the code number of the person who invited you to the "job briefing".
4. It will contain a phone number: this is the number of your referer. Most genuine companies don't give phone numbers.
5. You will see HR Admin in the message instead of company name
6. If you call their number, they will be reluctant to give info on the company.

And pls, ignore those people sharing job flyers on the streets, and those ones they paste on walls. Those are scammers and some ritualists too. And also most of these so called agencies are avenues for duping unsuspecting job seekers. Pls shine your eyes well well.
I will post the names of some of these fake companies/ agencies later.

Pls if you have any experiences inthe hands of these scammers kindly share it here so that others can learn and avoid them too. Thank you

Cheers!

Nice write up.

However also be careful so as not to unknowingly pass on a genuine opportunity thinking its a scam.

Eg. Some companies make use of recruitment firms to recruit for vacant positions, most of these recruitmrnt firms do not disclose the identity of their clients until you get to a certain stage of the recruitment process.

I do hope scammers won't allow genuine opportunities passby job seekers

Job seekers should be careful of COMPLETE LOGISTICS NETWORK LIMITED. They are located at 13, Okesuna Str Obalende. They invites people indiscriminately for interview disguising to be a prospective Employer but they are just one of the many recruitment Agencies in Lagos looking for whose time to waste.

It has come to our notice, the increasing number os fake jobs been posted both in the newspapers and also circulated around as jobs.
Most of these scammers pose as consulting firms, or companies. After application you would be invited for an interview, where you would be told to pay money for processing, ranging from 500 naira to about 2000 naira, after which you will be told to go home, and expect to be called if you pass the interview. Each week, they might do this to about 100 to 200 candidates!!! Imagine how much they are making.
The big shots would call you and tell you that you have been offered a job. Probably an oil company job, and tell you that you need to pay some money to their lawyer to help you process your documents. These ones charge as much as 5000 naira to 10,000 naira. After paying that money, you won’t hear from them again.
Jobsfornaija is seizing this opportunity to warn all job seekers to be careful and wise while applying for jobs.
Also, if you have had any experience with such scammers, please drop a comment here so others would not fall into that trap.
We have been receiving reports on people being scammed by so called recruiters or recruiting firm. Please inform us of any more that you have been scammed by so we can add to the list and warn other applicants. Our readers have reported being scammed so Beware of any of the following:

1. ebtonline.com
2. canadaworkpermit@msn.com
3. seawelluk@gmail.com
4. psolution
5. ebenyincc
6. xrlimited
7. PMO recruiting agency
8. Esther breakthough online
9. Adesen consulting
10. Platinum parking Management Consulting

I have got a offer to work in Nigeria, for Schlumberger, then they asked me to contact this “attorney”
barristerikorochambers@gmail.com
Now, he is saying I need a Overseas Travelers Insurance Policy but the preferred insurance company by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) is NIGER INSURANCE PLC (NIG). NIGER INSURANCE is a Nigerian government owned insurance company located in Nigeria, so I have to look for their agent in my location (couldn’t find any) or they will help me to get it there.. in Nigeria. Because I couldn’t find anything, they said they can help me and I have to send 1000 USD. I asked if I could get a SOS International Insurance, he said: As regards the insurance please note that the required insurance policy by the Nigerian immigration service is Niger insurance.. it means.. I should have to send that money.
What should I do?

Sometime in july 2012, a mail was sent to me through my mail box by jobrapido. When I opened the mail, I came accross one of scammers whose name was toteliousconsult@yahoo.com. The said email claimed to be a recruiting consultant who works in conjunction with Total Nigeria. That they are agent who are premitted to offer HSE, rig overhauling, pipline welding and others in oil and gas companies both Port Harcourt and Lagos. That, after the said trainings, successful trainees would be attached and sent any of the Total sites for immediate employment of which 20,000. 00 was asked to pay for registration into a GTB through the acc/ no 5075808921820 with a name Dr Ime Friday Umoh. A venue for the training was also given in their mails. Actually I had deposited the above mentioned amount into their bank acc, waiting the training day to arrieve but to my sock, when I arrieved the venue, is there it was discovered is scamer. Meanwhile, they have changed the name to zenithoilandgasconsult@yahoo.com and winoracconsult. I do not know the one they are using now. So beware.

I got a mail n was told I got a job wit stat oil and gas. In the mail I was told to call their lawyer who will give me international workers’ certificate. So I called the man, one barr okechukwu ugba n he asked me to pay in 25,000 into a certain account owned by one ms grace otimgba. Every thing looks real but I still fink its a scam. So I browsed the said company, stat oil n gas n found out that they don’t have any job openin like that n they also warned anybody to beware of frauders. To b more sure I google this names out n I found out that grace otimgba is a wanted person n they don’t exist on face book either. My advice to we the job seekers, we should learn to google tins out ourselves cos if u do u will never fail victim. Pls also check the web sites of these companies n if possible put a call or a mail accross to the origin company n find out if they actually sent u a mail concernin a job. Thank u. GOD help us all. There is one on 161 Ikorodu Rd just beside the filling station before you get to UNION HOMES.Please beware of them, they send invites under the guise of many names. But I wonder what the government is doing to help our youths from falling victims.I have heard a lot of stories bothering on job scams.I actually went to investigate the one on Ikorodu road and the outcome was exactly what I had heard. Please beware.

Saraha1: pls could you narrate how it happen for job seeker like me to be aware and act smart in such circumstance?
Thanks

I also fell into their trap last year losing more than 70k before I realised am being deceived. I guess dey use juju too o and u would av drop d money before u knew it.

it all happened that I applied for admin officer at New horizon as they advertised, I mistaken it for d US New Horizon which train individuals on IT.

The name of d company reads New Horizon Global Ltd. such a catchy name and bfor I knew it I was I'm their net.

When u arr at d interview venue u will fill a form stating who invited u. Then u will write a test which is unrelevant and will not b marked. Immediately after d test u will b asked to wait that someone wants to talk to.u, once u wait u are OYO.

I once narrated this to a friend and he boasted that he can never b a victim, lo and behold he is lamenting too.

Thank you

Cheers!
