This is the way to go. We are losing valuable time to the virus already. If we can scale up testing, we can identify those with the virus early enough and isolate them from the rest of the population and contain the spread.

I can't believe we are making the same mistake the trump led administration made by restricting Covid-19 test to just a few agencies.
We surely need to ramp up our testing facilities. Most of the donation made by philanthropists should go into ungrading labs that can do PCR tests.
Shockingly, this tests can be perfected as quickly as possible.

Is it not better to decentralize the testing so the country don't lose other probable cases to the communities? How many people can NCDC test? Are they not only testing polithiefcians and their families and a few celebrities? Is that what ya all want? Besides, how will doctors cash in on this when they are not saying let doctors test? Man brace up... Corona virus is a family of viruses that can be contracted from animals by humans they are also called zoonotics... SARS is a Corona virus, MERS is a corona virus and yes they are all respiratory infections so they will affect the lungs.

Coronaviruses are actually a large family of genetically related viruses with similar pathogenicity. They present similar symptoms and similar incubation period. It's just that COVID 19 is a new strain of a previously existing virus. SARS, HN bird flu and MERS belong to this class

Good one. There some private laboratories that have the the capacity to run the test. NCDC should disburse funds, reagents and kits to them to run the tests for free for every Nigerian.

Every General hospital laboratory should be upgraded with the machines, reagents and Medical Laboratory Scientists (with life insurance) and stand by power. Create awareness on TV, radio, newspaper, send town criers in the rural areas and ask people to come for free for the tests.

I've been waiting for AMLSN to even release press statements as an health professional association and educate Nigerians on this scourge. What better time if not now?
Scientists in Ghana, Cameroon and Kenya have been proactive, releasing statements, educating their people on the Covid-19 issue but AMLSN as big as they are with all the money (dues) at their disposal can't even release a simple online press release. Very lethergic In a battle where their members are right in the middle of the whole chaos?

Pasteur Institute in Senegal was able to develop their ten minutes kit after getting a hold of the genome sequence which was openly made available on the internet.
First set of testing kits used in the early outbreak in honk Kong were supplied by a home medical lab owned by a German microbiologist.
If resources are pulled together, we can actually get large number of labs upgraded and made to follow strict testing procedures.
We are in a race against time and we cannot afford to wait on other countries who have their own to cater for.
If only we had invested in medical research before now.
