The first machine worked for 8 years. How long was it supposed to work?... or how long was it supposed to be used before being upgraded? I believe 8 years was too long... there must have been tremendous improvements in the technology even if the one bought was the most advanced at the time of purchase. In 2014.... I believe the Public/Private Partnership is the cause for the university not having a machine for years. I'm almost sure the ones that can make the equipment available to the hospital are receiving kickbacks from the Private hospital not to do so. The Governor should be pressured to intervene. Such neglect should be put on blast .... bring it to the attention to the TV stations... radio stations.... the Gobernor will not look good and will do something about it.

Lol, UCH get MRI? How many top teaching hospitals get am for Naija?
MRI is an expensive diagnostic equipment. Our SR was telling us it costs about ₦2B to own one. People who can fix or produce it are rich automatically, these are stuff you should learn.

It's also a business idea that you buy this thing and put it in top teaching hospitals, if you're rich. A single diagnosis, using it goes for nothing less than 80k, and it's one of the unavoidable medical tools.

Thank me later.

Stop making excuses for corruption & incompetence.... Sometimes it makes me even wonder if the the racists whites, chinco & arabs Calling us monkeys, subhumans etc might actually be right.

Ur leaders are busy stealing billions of naira monthly, buying useless SUV, yatchs & useless edifice for President & V.P.

But, No...that's not a problem, But a simple MRI machine for millions of people is 'TOO EXPENSIVE' for d government, Instead a private individual should buy it & EXTORT THE SICK.

Are U agbodoria@ns even HUMAN. how da hell do U comfortable defend such incompetence!

I can help fix the machine but that problem is that it is obsolete and parts might not be available.
When these people buy such equipment, they should never pay in full. Instead they should lease from the manufacturer. Siemens, GE, Philips and Konica are all good brands.
An agreement of sales and service should be reached to reduce downtime.
This is a money spinner but most investors in Nigeria are only interested in hotel business.
A quick maths will give you an idea of the business aspect
Take for instance, at 100k per exam for easy 20 exams in a day is #2M
An equipment lease of 20 % interest rate of $150k ( equipment cost and installing) is just $30k. Divine this by 12 month you have $2500 a month
This amount is achievable in any teaching hospital MRI department in Nigeria.
And they will have newer, well maintained machine.
Lack of information and exposure to international market / investors is the problem in these respect.
In case they need my help and service I am available.

How many MRI machines do you have in anambra? UCH hospital ibadan is easily the best hospital in nigeria. What hospital do you have in the east to compare?

Looking at the value of the naira, second hand MRI machines would be the best.

But as an investor, shouldn't you be the one pitching the idea to these hospitals? As it is, I don't think Nigerians are rich enough to patronise newer models of MRI machines. Second hand is the best. Also, we are dealing with a public institution here, so I am wary of the payment model. I prefer selling to them the machines, not on a subscription model. Buy and go. I can offer a warranty, but a subscription? No.

How much is MRI?Sadiya Farooque alone stole billions of naria from social investment.Former accountant general of federation stole close to N200bn, Yahaya Bello alone stole N80.2bn ,Emefiele and his cohort also stole staggering amount of public funds via the ways and means and others. Even El-Rufai with $350m loan he took from World Bank couldn't spare some amount out of it to purchase functional MRI and dialysis machine for Barau Dikko Hospital which now serves as teaching hospital for Kaduna State University though he employed young experienced medical personnel but no functional facilities to work with.Nigeria needs total shift from corruption which has turned to norm,no one we do it for us until we arise and put an end to this nonsense most of us are feeling indifferent to.

Honestly, day by day, I am finding it difficult to blame the white man for our woes as most do. Was it the white man who said those people should pilfer money meant for the public good?

Something should be done about this,
It is people's life we talking about here.
This is what the state government can do in 1 day for crying out loud.

In fact, some staff wouldn't want it to work because a lot of them own the private diagnostic centres or they get commission when they refer people there. So, it's beyond the MRI, it's also about the greed and unpatriotic acts of many Nigerians.

All this nonsense with healthcare in Nigeria would be greatly improved in about 10 to 25 years if government, especially the Federal Government, would simply get out of the sector. Just get out, exit, wash their hands of everything. Invite competent health standards organizations like JCAHO to do the regulation. Let the private sector take over and watch what will happen.

Nigerians love socialism so this is what they will always get.

Good Luck to Nigerians.

AS A COUNTRY, THE GOVERNMENT CANNOT BUY ALL THE INFRASTRUCTURES AND MAINTAIN IT.

WHEN THE MRI MACHINE WAS WORKING AND GENERATING REVENUE, WHERE WAS THE REVENUE GOING TO ?

WAS SOMEBODY YAHYA BELLO-ING THE REVENUE ?

MRI MACHINE PROBABLY WORKED FOR 20 YEARS BEFORE IT PACKED UP.....EVERYTHING HAS A LIFESPAN.

SALES AND SERVICING SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOP PRIORITY OF THE PEOPLE IT WAS ENTRUSTED WITH.

THATS WHY CORRUPTION HAS TO BE COMPLETELY STAMPED OUT.

BECAUSE THE WHOLE COUNTRY WONT WORK IF PEOPLE LOOT LEFT RIGHT AND CENTER.

Second hand is not the best. These equipment most times have softwares that could no longer be supported by the original equipment manufacturer on older editions. Unfortunately, there are no universal standard repair because they are enterprise base. Each repair is patent by the manufacturer.
So if you buy an almost out of date machine, it won’t be long before the manufacturer tells you that it has been phased out and no longer repairable. Remember that they are very sensitive equipment, and a little misuse or software glitch could throw it off leading to shutdown.

You want healthcare workers to stay in the country but can’t give them basic and necessary equipment to work with. Then blame them for misdiagnosing certain conditions

While we are both capitalists, privatising health care and education does not sit right with me. That is something I have wanted to converse with you - your penchant for privatising health care and education. Nigerians don't even have the money to pay for these services at public hospitals. Would they be able to pay when it is privatised? The same holds true for education. Unlike the US, where there are equally good public universities, most countries' top universities are publicly owned. So, why advocate for privatisation?

Let's look at Brazil, where education is free till the university level. There ought to be subsidies in certain sectors, of which education and health care are paramount.

And this is a basic equipment that all hospitals should have, even the remote areas.

No wonder they preach patriotism but run away to keep their children in countries where an illness than can be easily diagnosed with imaging won’t kill them.

I know I've said it before - I have no solutions for healthcare and primary education. Healthcare in particular is an unavoidable risk and completely independent of voluntary demand. So they're not fit for the free market.

It's clear however that Black Africans, in this case Nigerians, can't organize a socialist healthcare system and the evidence is ALL of Nigeria's history since 1960. We just don't have what it takes and even the UK and Canada are having problems with their socialist healthcare system. So we have to try ANOTHER option, which is completely profit driven, capitalist and free market. What other option do we have? I'd like to read your take.

Good Luck to Nigerians

Exactly my concern when I suggested a lease model., An option were the manufacturer owns the equipment but give it out on a lease to own agreement. That way, they are responsible for maintenance. The purpose is to have it available and not just for profit.
When this governors take vacations abroad, these are the type of information they are supposed to look for and bring them back to the people, even health commissioners and medical directors.,
