Larufa: The Central Bank of Nigeria has announced that it is going to introduce a N5,000 note into the system.

The faces of three prominent Nigerian female activists are to be used on the new note. They are those of late politician and social mobiliser, Margaret Ekpo (1914 - 2006); late politician and activist Hajia Gambo Sawaba (1933 - 2001) and late politician and women's right activist Funmilayo Kuti (1900 -1978).

Please remind me. Who or what is Soludo?

micklplus: This mallam has fully lost it! What is the usefulness of N5000 note in a cashless economy? Most of his policies are SMH. I would think mallam should come up with something that would empower naira and not a policy that would make a bottle of coke to be sold for 5times the current price!

I think mallam just got the award for the worst CBN governor ever.

If you are used to 100 Naira notes , 50 notes will make 5000 Naira. Having a single note makes it 49 notes less , obviously closer to cashless than what exists now.

Odunnu: Had to run a quick google search to find out who this Sawaba woman is.
Never heard of her until now, either in the dream or in reality . Lol.
When is this man's tenure ending BTW? Cant wait to see him leave.

More a function of your ignorance than her historical, political and gender significance. Go to school!

micklplus:

Don't mind them!!! They all crucified soludo. Whereas, soludo applied diplomacy in his approaches and he managed the economy with a tailor made approach and people thought, he was foolish.

On the other hand, mallam would just dig out a theory and gbam!!!! He would just introduce it into naija economy without any consideration whether the situation on ground matches his cattle rearing approach.

In mallam's brilliance, banks are stronger, chei? Over 15,000 people lost their jobs and still counting! And now,N5000 note!!!!!

Soludo is/ was a crook.

Personally, i have problems with this man Sanusi. And he's making it worse for himself! He's officially the worst CBN governor ever.

What i'm asking the vast majority of us who do not see sense it this plan to replicate the subsidy protests of January! Else we'll be like Zimbabwe in no time. It's hard to believe Ghana is our neighbour and we can make such foolish economic decisions.

This man is creating more tension in the an already tensed nigeria, and is intentionally seeking to make people hate GEJ's government more. I don dey tok am say this Sanusi hand no clean- na nothern puppet wen dey supplemement boko haram damaging! Who knows, maybe when GEJ was saying boko haram's sympathisers are in the government he was referring to this COW!

BTW, let Sanusi explain himself! I'm praying he does not live to accomplish this feat!

ewu, STOP smoking that ganja. Just look at you simpleton ideology? No wonder Mallam is wrecking Nigeria's economy. Based on your ideology, are you encouraging or discouraging cashless society? If your mallam had any sense, it will be removing larger bills from circulation and introducing smaller competing ones, in the simplest form, that will make it bulkier for people to carry, discouraging people from carrying cash, thus, resulting for them to use alternative banking methods such as Automated Clearing House Transactions, Electronic wire, transfers etc. At least, we can see the effect and cashless will take off with ease.

Now this is just "Part one"

Part two - when you have higher bills in circulation, with less purchasing power to match it, what do you think that results to? He's comparing Nigeria to Japan, but you forgot Japan is the world's third largest economy after China? The purchasing power per capita is 20x more than Nigeria? Why the heck will someone carry a N5,000 note when he's paid N25,000 per month? What do you think will happen to market prices? What do you think will happen to the value of the currency? Think with your head not with your anus.

Well, that is what you can get from Mallam. Before it was islamic Banking, now is 5,000 naira note and making 5, 10 and 20 naira to coins. Are you sure the man even passed through primary school? How can you be promoting cashless society and you are still introducing more currencies? The right people that would do things well would not be allowed to be in positions instead they will put people that will be messing up.

The Average Nigerian is Little Red Riding Hood and the FG is. . .well you guesed it - The BIG BAD WOLF!!

Little Red Riding Hood - Oh my! FG, What BIG bill this is!! shocked shocked

Big Bad - Why. . .All the better to steal more from you with less hassle!!! cool cool

Anyway, this doesn't come as a suprise. . .the whole Ghana Must Go bag thingy was sooooo outdated!! Why they still haven't considered wire transfers to offshore accounts is beyond me. All the tackiness of stuffing money down your pants really doesn't speak well for the fund stealers in the Govt undecided

See dis pple, so because Sanusi was purported to introduce 5000 naira note and convert some note 2 coin we now vindicate Soludo's crimes and his idea of re-decimalisation of d naira(shiftin d decimal point 2 places to d left that is, N100.00 BECOMES N1.00). Even though Ghana did this, did that change d true value of d Cedi. The reason why they proposed this then was to make pple spend coin and deceive d public dat d naira now exchange for N1.54K to $1 when the true value hasn't change. Because then the naira to dollar was N154 (d exact day d idea was made public). Thank God the legislators rejected it, though, it was due 2 their own self ego because their 1 billion naira becomes 10 million naira. This are the negative effects of the idea:
1. They will have 2 print new set of notes because d currency notes in use then N1=1Kobo, N5=5K, N10=10k, N20=20k, N50=50K, N100=N1, N200=N2, N500=N5, N1000=N10 renderin d notes in circulation useless AND 50kobo is valueless.
2. As much the proposed new currency look small let say N10, to earn it will require the same workdone to obtain the pervious N1000. So is it worth the stress?
3. The cost of printing the currency will run into trillions of naira and trust Nigerians it will be another avenue to steal funds.
4. Waste of public funds, resources, time and intelluct.
That settled, d introduction of N5000 note is unwarranted but totally not incongruous. They should forget the coins, is it a must we spend coins?

Why national assembly building on the oroposed #5k note! This building portrays this country as a core islamic country. This is another dimension of imposin islamic banking on us and possibly preaching islamic 'gospel'.We shd definately expect more arabic inscriptions on these notes as he plans to change the looks of the existing naira notes.Pls,lets rise up in unison against this man who has a religious hidden agenda.

Naija! This means less Ghana-must-go bags and more loot for those thieving politicians.
Sanusi is a funny guy - maybe confused. One day he's all over the place about a cashless society the next he's introducing N5,000 notes - which will make it easier to carry large sums.
