standardchuks: why did economic course leave GHANA and come to NIGERIA
Because Ghana did what Soludo was about to do before he was removed. Ghana removed two digits from their currency, instead of having 5000 cidis it becomes 50 cidis. Imagine buying the ssame product you formerly get at 1000 naira for just 10 naire, imagine changing the dollar for #1.60k instead of 160 naira. The multiplying effect will reboost the edonomy and Nigeria will be the better for it. Nobody wants to usethe coins, its somehow wothless, if 5,10 and 20 naira notes are eventually changed to coins, believe it or not within a short while the products you used to get for 5 naira will turn to 50 naira that inflation, wo what Lamido is doing now is adding more digits to the naira instead of reduction. Truely Nigeria will die. We must fight against this action so that it will not see the light oday. May God help us.

I listened to the news this morning on classic fm that the CBN will introduce 5000 naira note 2013. The news instantly gave me headache and worries. As a student of Economics I have my worries for the Economy of this country, instead of CBN boss to introduce Macro-Economy policies to tackle problem of inflation, his planning to introduce a currency that will worsen the economy of that country. The question is how can we fight or stop this policy from being implemented, because except we do that we are in trouble and I mean serious Economic trouble. We need to form a pressure group on social, a debate, exposition, more like holistic history of the effect of the introduction of a higher denomination will lead to grievous causal inflation. Before now have had my reservation for the Man Sanusi but with this news, I completely lost it for him, your are propagating cashless Economy and also planning to introduce 5000 naira what a fiasco. It just shows that this man lacks the prerequisite knowledge to stir this Economy in the right direction. What is his background you would ask and what are his experiences that his bringing to bear on the job: nothing absolutely nothing. Thank you all.

I still can't figure out what is cashless with the introduction of 5000naira note.
From my basic understanding, cashless is the process of reducing the volume of cash transactions with the introduction of electronic POS tools. Cashless can also be use as a tool for check and balancing ie to control movement of cash and money laundering.

The new 5000naira note will jeopardize the definition stated above because of the following reason: -
1. The new note will make it more convinient to move around with high volume of cash eg I need only 200pieces of 5,000naira note to move around with 1m naira. So what is cashless here??

2. The new 5000naira note will contribute adversely to Nigeria economy ie increasing the rate of already existing inflation.

3. The corrupt politician will find it easier to launder money with the new note.

4. The new note will make the gap between the rich and the poor wider.

Therefore, I humbly and wholeheartedly say NO to the introduction of new notes.

My humble assertions!!

Sanusi is not in his right thinking. I can bet he has not used N50 naote in a long time, like wise the miisters and the like of them.
Instead of removing 00 he is adding 00, just see Ghana? Sanusi must be stupid, mad and foolish.
Re: CBN To Introduce N5,000 Note by Nobody: 9:20am On Aug 24, 2012
Truth be told:
Introduction of N5000 is understandable to help mop up excessive denominations in the system but the conversion of the lower denominations to coins is not a wise decision. Antecedence shows that Nigerians don't simply like coins, so any denomination converted to coin spells an obituary on such legal tender. Mallam Sanusi can not tell Nigerians the last time he used Coins. In fact, our creative goldsmith converts our coins to earrings, rings, trinkets and necklaces and sell them at higher price than the net worth of the coin itself. I think Sanusi has exhausted his ideas in CBN and his searching for what next to do.

[quote author=Rhino.5dm]Which plan are you taking about? Thesame Soludo that intentionally allowed Erastus Akingbola, Cecilia Ibru to loot over 3 hundred billion share holders funds? Abeg Soludo is a thief joor.

is it because Cicilia Ibru and Erastus Akingbola were very unfortunate and in the wrong book of Sanusi Lamido?
Jim Ovie of Zenith bank and Elumelu of UBA were fraudsters whose level of operation were HYPERTONIC and much more higher than the level at which Akingbola and Cicilia operated.
are u saying other CEOs' didn't enrich themselves?
methink what is good for the goose is also good for the gander?
even Lamido Sanusi was an I.T.T (i do hope you know the meaning?) when he was the CEO of last bank, sorry, FIRST bank of Nigeria.
Even now,the guy,Lamido still dey STEAAAAAL big time.

dondada78: Instead of him to redominate the naira by taking away two zeros and give the weak naira the needed pep, this 'aboki' will now cause inflation like never before. Haba! Cant the dude think and see the beauty in Soludo's plan?

Remind me please, who or what is Soludo?

Is time we understand where this man called Sanusi is coming from,Is time we question whose agenda he is advancing,Is time we ask him where he is taking this country to,Is time we know whose side he belong,Is time we understand the people or group of people that are in charge, let us take a critical look at all the policies this man has advanced and proposed since he became the CBN Governor,Let us take a critical look on the policies our so called economic team has proposed and implemented and ask a basic question"IN WHOSE INTEREST" My good people of Nigeria,am quite convinced that our leaders have sold their soul and is gradually sacrificing the whole nation to the alter of the the controllers of the world economy(pls dont ask me who) These happenings are more than meet the eyes.Just pause and reflect on these.God save Nigeria

Sanusi's monetary policy is quite funny. What benefits will this note bring to the nigerian financial system and economy?
Why does he want to reintroduce coins, an idea that failed woefully a few years ago and cost us billions of naira(coins are more expensive to produce)?
I'm trying to understand the logic and reason behind this decision, can anyone help?

This is absolutely nonsense. How will they do such things, cause in my own i don't think this is the right thing for them to do becourse if they try it our nigerian money will not have more value Again. More especially we students that we are managing our money. It may rise the price of goods which no body can afford to buy it. So they shouldn't try such things
