@cocolo duphaston is synthetic progesterone. I would refrain from "cleaning" the vagina. I think you need a good gyn for a proper exam |

Hello kay. Really want to commend u for starting up this thread as this will help considerably in abating the public from soliciting quack doctors and most importantly, traditionalists that only aid in increasing d morbidity n sadly mortality rates as well. I am a doctor as well, but had just graduated and so still a baby. I ve a question though related to ur field of study. I had had breast lumpectomy a few years ago as a student. I am married now with 2 kids n cant seem to make up my mind on the contraceptive to use. I avoid hormonal contraceptives since they predispose to breast ca. Am afraid of IUCD cos my mom took in wit my jnr sis even wit it insitu n i am sacred it might happen to me, since we re genetically related. Condom is a no no since, well, let's face it, i am simply dead to all feelings during sex n finally safe periods etc stuff cannot b used cos i ve d worst irregular period in Hx. Pls help me. |

hi dr. kathyl, my wife is 21 weeks pregnant now, we've been able to confirm we're having a boy. we are so excited, our baby weighs 501gramms, is that not too large for that period? if it is what do we do to maintain good weight. she complains of side pains at times along the rib area, left side mostly, is that normal? i also discovered that ever since my wife took in i've been having cough, i've gone to the hospital, taken drugs but its still there, no pains in the throat or chest, no headaches, someone says at times husbands suffer a form of discomfort,so to say with their wives, until delivery, though my wife doesn't cough, vomits or so, she only suffered nausea. please what is your take on this? thanks. |

Dr Kathy, I know you are very fine. I always thank God for you here. Our miracle (the duodenal stenoisis caused by annular pancrease that has been corrected surgically) baby will be 10 months next week. I must admit to you, she is a blessing in our lives and the strongest and best baby I have ever seen in my life. People are so proud and happy with her. She is so strong and can u believe she is walking very well at 9 months+. Though she is yet to develop teeth (I hope this is normal) she is very active and always happy. I will want to find out the minimum amount of time we should give before going for another baby. Will spacing the babies 2 years apart too short since my wife underwent a CS for the first baby? Please confirm and assist. God's abundant blessings will never depart you. Cheers! |

Good day doc Katty, i want to appreciate you for all you have been doing for us in this forum. May the good Lord bless and enrich you in your endeavours. Doc, i went to pelvic scan and my result reads that i have:- PID and myomas measuring 12mm in size with a bulky uterus. Please doc what does this mean and will it stop me from getting pregnant. Also, i want to know if the size of the fibroid, 12 mm will effect pregnancy? Thank you Evy |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by uteh: 3:08pm On Jan 29, 2010 |
Dear Doc Kathy, Happy New Year Sometime last year I wrote to say I have fibroid, was pregnant and still seeing menses. Well when it continued I when for proper medical examination somewherelse. The result showed that I was not pregnant, rather it was the fibroid that was making have the symptoms of pregnancy. I have since been seeing a good gyn. He asked my husband to do some test and I to do another scan and then HSG. My husband's result showed low sperm count of about 24% so he placed him on some drugs. Then for me he said the location and the size of the fibroid shouldnt prevent me from conceiving, the HSG result was okay, showed that there was no blockage and the fibroid is not located to close to the fallopian tubes. Presently am on my period, he wanted to give me Clomid to enhance my ovulation, but I reminded him that I had fibroid and Clomid makes fibroid grow faster (got that info from medical websites) he agreed. There is a fertility drug am taking which I think is good (Fertility Blend) cos I have noticed increased mucos during my ovulation. I also bought ovulation kit (the doc explained how and when to use it), am on Prenatal vitamins (Pregnacare). My husband's recent test also show improvement of 54%. With all these am still not pregnant. My question is, is there any other test you can suggest, so that we'll know why I cant still conceive. Thank you. |

hello kathy I had a fibroadenoma removed from my right bust when i was about about 14 or so. Shortly after that the right side has been significantly smaller. What i am curious about if fibroadenoma are linked with cancer and if contraceptives can cause them to reoccur |

@Kathy, My wife had 2 miscarriage in in abt 9months. The last case was closely monitored yet it happened. All her test seemed okay e.g shes AA, Rh +ve, HIV -ne, free from infection yet went ahead to have mc after 10weeks. She noticed brown spotting for few days and the doctor said it was normal and asked her to rest alot. She was also placed on pregncare, folic acid but yet, Doc said we should nt try until after the next menses after which she will be givn progesterone. Can you comment or advice other suggestns or if the baby aspirin should also be included. Thanks. |

@zimex Good. Let me know how it goes. P.s. I never said unmentionables @venuss That shouldn't affect your fsh. I would suggest another fsh on day 3 of your cycle. |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 5:31am On Feb 05, 2010 |
@temimine It seems like the tubes didn't allow free flow of the contrast into the peritoneum. This could mean there is obstruction or more likely spasm from the injection of the dye. As for the cyst, were you on any medication to try to get pregnant? Sometimes, these medications can cause cysts @peacettw Thanks for the kudos. As for your question on IUCD, sounds like your mother had an IUD. IUCD contain progesterone derivatives and are more effective in preventing pregnancy than certain kinds of tubal ligation. They also have the added benefit of being completely reversible and won't affect your bosom. |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 5:35am On Feb 05, 2010 |
@stages I keep my patients on progesterone until at least 12 weeks. After this time, the placenta takes over the job of producing progesterone. On patients with history of preterm labor and delivery, the supplementation is continued until 34 weeks @ meta4 congrats then breathe. Sounds like a good sized baby. As for your cough, it is unrelated to her pregnancy. Aches and pains are common during pregnancy. If she had bleeding or contractions, she should see her ob |

@maxoria Frequent urination could be a sign of an infection or early sign of diabetes. I suggest you get your urine checked. What medication were you given for the goiter? @go4gold So happy to hear this! I need an updated pic. As for two year spacing, sounds great to me. The teeth thing is child dependent. Be patient |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 5:45am On Feb 05, 2010 |
@evangelin I don't know how else to say this but PID can NOT be diagnosed on an ultrasound. A 12 mm fibroid will not affect your fertility @uteh I am happy that you are going this route. I would suggest a day 3 FSH just to check the ovaries. Good luck my friend |

Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 5:53am On Feb 05, 2010 |
@salsera OCPs can cause recurrence of fibroadenoma. The risk of breast cancer is increased for any patient who has had a breast biopsy. It might just be that people with benign breast disease have more biopsies which aids in the detection of breast cancer rather than there being a real increased risk of breast cancer with benign disease. @aladunni Hydrosalpinx means there is water in the tubes. Any inflammation in the pelvis can cause this. It can be on either side or on both depending on the initial cause |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 5:56am On Feb 05, 2010 |
@susanamand So sorry to hear this. I am an ob/gyn but I would suggest that your father get rehabilitation therapy. The food and medications depend on what cause the stroke and is better discussed with his physician @oluwawunmi I would suggest seeing a fertility specialist in light of your history. Also take your prenatal vitamins |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 6:01am On Feb 05, 2010 |
@prommy Ovulation is 14 days before your menses. I would suggest getting an ovulation kit to help you figure out your fertile days @benalways I agree with your doctor in checking and supplementing the progesterone level. I would also suggest a thyroid evaluation. If this happens again, she will need a thrombophilia workup. Thrombophilia is the name given to a group of disorders which can cause miscarriages by causing blood clots. This is the reason for the baby aspirin. I would only recommend it if a disorder is detected. |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by benalways(m): 10:32am On Feb 05, 2010 |
@Kathy, Thanks for your prompt response. Can you throw more light on the objective of the thyroid evaluatn and possible treatment? Rgds |
