An MBA holder ought to set up his own business at the worst, not to apply to be a truck driver.
It is more honorable to set up a liquid soap production business with N10k than the trucking job they are applying for.
They went to school and graduated with the orientation that they must work for someone. That is the common problem in Nigeria.

Somebody told me that he saw a security guard at a shop in UK and on a closer look he discovered that the man was a university lecturer in nigeria but resigned and went to UK in search of greener pasture. D security guard job was all he could get in UK with all his degrees. If these phd and masters degree holders had gone into politics to join in the looting of the treasury I doubt if the people posting bunkum about their applying for truck-driving job would hav said anything. Come to think of it, in just 2-4 years the truck becomes yours. From that point d sky is your limit- you can employ someone to drive d truck and focus on some other things while money keeps rolling into your account in hundreds of thousands. Ego is a problem in this country.

It is a matter of choice. With a Ph.D one will get a lecturing job at least in a tertiary institution in Nigeria but the salary may be a dis-incentive.

There is an incentive in this offer for the self-emploment you advocate. The contract is indeed self emploment and After a year or two the truck onwership is transferred to their name.

To all you speaking negatively of a phd holder driving a truck, you lack vision.

The candidate only need to win the hauling contract, there is no contract ghat tie them to the steering. He/she can sublet the driving at a cheaper rate of wages to a professional driver for the two yr period. After transfer of trucj ownership the phd/masters candidate can then bid as a direct supplier with ghe parent company and multiply revenue......he has a free truck, a dependent driver and a distribution chain. He can drive his own truck if he so chooses and save on operation costs.

Prof Corruption: It's an exaggeration that PhD holders applied for that job. That's not true. There are numerous private universities in Nigeria that do not have enough faculties. Some of them take many MSc holders with a condition that they commence PhD studies. As for MBA, apart from Lagos Business School, there is no single MBA programme in the country that is not a shame. No serious employer would even look at any MBA nonsense coming out of Naija. Of what use is even any MBA without on-the-job experience?
