egheleghe: Egheleghe, as a Rivers Igbo which you are, you should be able to translate this more than me. Nevertherless, I will give it a go. Egbe dama: Owerri dialect: Egbe or gun should sail well. This is an Owerri name. They also have names such as Nkwadama or Nkwazema. UGBO ALA: motor, car. ALA ISI IGWE: head of a crowned king. |

Andre, I don't think he meant "ugbo ala", but I can't be too sure. Agodi --- Why do I feel that this is the shortened version? This name actually strikes a chord in me, but I'm not sure what it is. It sounds very familiar, though. The others, I won't even attempt, because I've never heard of them before. |

What is the meaning of "Nwosu"? |
Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by abadaba(m): 6:53pm On May 25, 2010 |
ChinenyeN: Nwa osu (nwosu). Osu--authority Nwa--Son. Though osu means different things, but any one who is an authority in any field is an osu in that field. For example, if you are an authority in yam production, you are called Osu ji. 4 Likes |

Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by Abagworo(m): 1:15pm On Jun 17, 2010 |
@andre uwe.i still refuse to agree with you on the spelling issue.we did not invent roman writing and therefore cannot state exact spellings as we wish unless all parties agree.why cant we correct awka to orka or oka.owerri to owere.umuaka to umuakna and countless other instances.nwaogu, nwogu or wogu are clarely thesame name with different spellings but yet correct. |
Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by udezue(m): 4:25pm On Jun 18, 2010 |
Afameva, Chinelo, I think means "God thinks" Or "the God that thinks" In some Igbo dialects "elo" means "to think" or "thought". Ex "Elom' na ogi" "I thought it was you" Elochukwu - God's thought |
