@Abagworo,did you say "fu" is limited to Ngwa's?You might have to ask around again! Abiriba's,parts of Umuahia,Uzuakoli,Ohafia and parts of Orsu(Imo state) use "fu" A dim ifu ife ona eme. . .i wud see what he'd do,more like 'I dare him to do his worst. An abiriba/ohafia man wud say that. |
Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by Abagworo(m): 1:56am On Aug 13, 2011 |
ifyalways: The area known as Umuahia today consists originally of 3 distinct sub-groups and has about three dialects of Ohuhu,Ezilihite and Ikwuano.Actually you can find "fu" marginally in Oguta which Ukwuani dialect is spoken.Apart from there,Imo state is devoid of "fu". The Ngwas,Ezilihitte and Ohuhu are the most likely people to use "a dim ihu he o l'eme.People from that Ohafia area are likely to use "a hiam ya hio". Ohafia does use "f" for "h" too. |

There are more than three groups in Umuahia, isn't there? I think 'a dim ihu he o l'eme' is Ngwa, and Ohuhu people would say 'M na hu ihea i nẹ mẹ'. |

Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by Crayola1: 7:21am On Nov 09, 2011 |
^^ Thank you. He chose that name because it was suggested by someone that having two ethnic names would make him more "mysterious" to viewers in films I'm not even Nigerian and I knew this dear, please school up failing has never been cute http://nigerian-movies.net/starprofiles/segun.php http://www.modernghana.com/movie/8124/3/many-people-have-bad-impression-about-mesegun-arin.html And yes he's has an Igbo mother and Yoruba father. With the full name of Arinze being Arinzechukwu. Class dismissed. Hit the books 1 Like |

Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by NRIPRIEST(m): 7:32pm On Jan 24, 2012 |
odumchi: Odumchi, you got it all wrong with the Arinze name;It has nothing to do with Amalinze. Arinze is usually Anambra/Enugu name and it means;for the sake of God,If not for God, its kinda hard to translate but am not too far from it. |
Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by odumchi: 8:27pm On Jan 24, 2012 |
NRI PRIEST: I asked someone for the translation since I didn't know it. I was told that Amarinze is the long form of Arinze. But thanks for clearing that up. So what then is Amalinze? |
Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by NRIPRIEST(m): 8:47pm On Jan 24, 2012 |
