if she had to die, nothing can prevent it?
the doctors did their best but they are not God.
we will all go someday.
what is more important is our readiness for eternity.

why blame the hospital?
there are different caliber of hospitals in Nigeria.
maybe the one she died in is the type she can afford.

prepare for your own eternity before it is too late!
(Hebrews 9:27)(2 Corinthians 5:10)(2 Corinthians 6:2)

Bisi Komolafe, rest in peace.

LOL @ "From the way she looks, it's probably pre-eclampsia/eclampsia."

Now, tell me doctor, what in her face gave it away? And how far gone was she?cheesy

@kandiikane

My dear, that's exactly how they practice medicine in that hell-hole, by guess work and trial and error. The problem is NOT just the hospital sanitary condition,it's also the culture of practice, and contemplation/reasoning. Civilization and Efficiency starts from the mind, and it's non-existent in that rat-hole of a country. They term UCH a "Specialist Hospital", "one of the best in Nigeria" etc. That place doesn't even qualify as a veterinary clinic in places like South Africa, Egypt, India and the likes. Don't even bother mentioning Europe/USA/Canada yet, Nigeria needs 50 to 100 years to get to that. And Nigerians will call those rat-holes 'Hospitals or Specialist/Teaching Hospitals' because they don't know better and haven't seen better. And they lack the mental ability and balls to demand better from their leaders, and they defend and hail mediocrity as the norm, hence better conditions are not in sight.

Classicalman: It is obvious from that picture that the hospital is dirty and unequipped. She probably would have died from pre-eclampsia, d leading cause of maternal mortality in nigeria. So sad that pregnant women still die from such preventable causes. This goes to show that our healthcare system has hit rock bottom.

I don't understand what you are trying to say here because we still have qualified Doctors in Nigeria especially in Federal Hospital if the case is presented early. My sister is a living proof of that because immediately they discovered that it was pre-eclampsia, they had to evacuates her baby the next day and both mother and daughter are doing fine great now. And I still know many women who survived it here in Nigeria.

Lol . . it is not the numbers of years that would get us there, it is the determination by the leaders and the people to actually do good and invest into that sector of our nation, until our so called leaders see a reason to develop our own health care system or till the world leaders ban our own leaders from being admitted into their own hospitals with their household, we will see no reason why we have to develop ours, cos now we have 2 type of care in Nigeria, the rich - fly away when you sick, and the rest, die in the diseases ridden clinics - Shameful

So we could spend the next million years, as long as mentality remain same, Nigeria is going nowhere!

dohyn: . Can u kindly tell us what is wrong with the hospital? How can you deduce that the hospital is bad from one single picture??It's patients like you that will present late to hospitals after going to churches and God knows where else, yet expect doctors to work miracles..shior
By the way,why a blue cannula though?are her veins that tiny?

Who are you in support of, I bet not the hospital that doesn't know the choice of cannula to use.

Fhemmy, you appear to have missed the crux of my point. The time frame I alluded to is indicative of human capital, orientation and mindset development required to get to a desired standard. You can build and equip a world-class hospital in Nigeria, or anywhere for that matter, using just the money the so-called leaders spend on frivolities. But if you do not change the orientation, mindset and reasoning process of the people, that world-class hospital you've built and equiped will be ruined in one year or less. Most Nigerians are more engulfed in self-importance than in self-care, people are more interested in being called 'Dr' so and so, than in actually building capacity. Spending $Billions to build a structure is easy, but developing a civilized mental accuity and capacity takes longer, because it requires, not only money, but knowledge, focus, discipline, determination and leadership. These qualities neither exist in the leadership nor the citizenry of that sewer called nigeria, not presently. Go to any Hospital in the GTA, and just observe the process of service delivery from the gateman to the nurses, doctors upto the hospital administrator, and you might begin to comprehend what I'm alluding to.

Look at the Hospital wall, not even white or blue! Look at the drip rope hanging above her head. We have good Doctors in Nigeria, but the ones that attended to Bisi ain't one of them.

Very right and so much on point . . . But the people and the youth especially have to be the one to rise up and take the nation back into the right course, cos it is obvious that all these so called "leaders" have NOTHING to offer, though, some of the youths are even worse, cos it is all about what is in it for them and not what they could do to make tomorrow livable for the people

Nigeria could move from under-developed to develop, if we ALL chose to

Good doctors without good equipment are just as good as the worse of them all . . . The doctors are not the problem, but the field on which they are playing the games

That is a teaching hospital ,one of the best in Nigeria
Supposedly where all the specialties that could save her are under one roof
I wonder what she died of
Most deaths in Nigeria are man made and preventable

I told someone that I have been the USA donkey years I have never heard of a woman that died in childbirth or from pregnancy complications
Not a single one I know,co worker o,church member o,friends o,neighbor o
I neither know one or ever heard of one from anyone I know
Yet it is everyday news in Nigeria
There is no place in the world that they are no pregnancy related deaths (maternal mortality). The difference is the maternal mortality rate which is high in developing countries esp. India & Nigeria & low in developed countries. In Nigeria the common causes of maternal mortality are obstetric haemorrhage, eclampsia, obstructed labour, sepsis, unsafe abortions, ectopic pregnancies & anaemia in pregnancy. In developed countries though maternal mortality is low, the common causes are sepsis, ectopic pregnancy, postpartum haemorrhage, thrombosis & amniotic fluid embolism.

The fact that in over a decade I have not heard of one tells you how uncommon it is
Meanwhile in the same time period I know plenty maternal deaths in nigeria
