Don't even know why everyone's getting panicky.....If boko-haram is truely political, the Nigerian Government will sit-up or put a quick end to it. They need the threat of drone attacks to make them realize that they're biting more than they can chew.....If its not political, they(Boko-Haram) will know that their convoys smuggling weapons into Nigeria through our porous Northern borders aren't safe anymore. Either way, Boko-Haram will realize that it isn't bizness as usual again.

Seriously, a drone strike will aggravate the situation. The Jihadists will engage in a media war alleging all sorts of "crusade" against Muslims etc. And seeing what common eclipse of the sun made jobless Muslim youths to do in Maiduguri, the worse to come. Also, that calls to question Nigeria's sovereignty.

I would rather they share the intelligence and let the Nigerian security services do the ground work. At least thats what happens all over the world - sharing intel.

Anyone that thinks these drone are meant for the Jihadist is seriously deceiving himself. Everyone will suffer from it, From Tompolo in the Creeks to Ganiu Adams in Ajah.

This is what I call bullying, for how long will the west continue to bully sovereign states all in the name of security....I wouldn't blame them because those that fail to learn from history repeats the same mistake all over again.
The Roman empire bullied almost every nation in the ancient world for many centuries, but it only took a ragtag Germanic tribes men army with their warlord a Roman trained soldier to batter down the gates of Rome and sent the whole world back to the dark ages and here we're again bullying countries that are militarily weak-little wonder why Ahmadinejad and Iran is insisting on possessing a nuclear capability...tell me who would want to bully a nation that is armed to the teeth with strong hearted leadership?...smh for our Nigerian brothers who are wishing for a drone attack on our northern brothers just because we don't agree.

executinal: U.S. Likely to Expand Drone Attacks to Nigeria Says Leon Panetta, U.S. Defence Secretary.

(CNN) -- Four years ago, John Brennan withdrew from consideration for C.I.A. director because of his leadership role there while serious human rights violations were occurring, including waterboarding and secret detention. Mr. Brennan has said he regrets these practices. Yet he moved from the CIA to the White House, where he began to support a practice many consider worse than torture: targeted killing.

Brennan has been a champion and defender of attacks by C.I.A. drones that have killed thousands of people, including hundreds of children, far from any battlefield. These killings have occurred in Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has recently said the killing is likely to expand to Libya, Mali and Nigeria.

Panetta, Brennan and others in the Obama administration defended these lawless killings the same way the Bush administration justified the unlawful treatment of detainees. Officials in both administrations have sought to win public support and overcome opposition by repeatedly asserting that what they are doing is effective and lawful. The tactical parallels are striking.

To create an illusion of legality, both administrations coined new labels for unlawful practices. President Bush's people coined the term "enhanced interrogation methods" to describe torture, and are still asserting that waterboarding is not torture but an effective, necessary tool to keep the country safe.

Brennan unveiled the phrase "hot battlefield" in a speech at Harvard Law in September 2011. A "hot battlefield" is the type found in traditional armed conflicts, where enemy fighters are killed without warning and it is permissible to also kill civilians, as long as their deaths are unintentional collateral damage and not disproportionate to the military objective.

The CIA is killing civilians away from "hot battlefields," but according to Brennan, there are other types of battlefields that are not "hot" but nevertheless lawful places to intentionally kill targets and unintentionally those nearby.

The parallels between the two administrations do not end with fabricated terminology. Lawyers in the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel in both administrations have written secret memos apparently analyzing the legality of these troubling practices. After the memos were written, waterboarding continued during the Bush administration. President Obama finally ended it with an executive order signed within days of his first inauguration. Guantanamo, however, stayed open, and targeted killing continued. We can safely assume that the memos conclude the United States may lawfully carry out such practices.

It is surprising to me that anyone feels the need to actually see these secret memos. International law clearly makes waterboarding, secret detention and targeted killing away from battlefields unlawful. The fact these practices have continued after the writing of the memos demonstrates the analysis is window dressing.

The New York Times and the American Civil Liberties Union, among others, have committed significant resources to obtaining the memos on targeted killing. It would, of course, be interesting to compare the specious arguments and omissions that must characterize these memos with those released by the Bush administration on interrogation and detention. Some citizens might actually need to see the memos to finally demand an end to the practice.

The greater importance of the secret memos does not concern what they contain, but the fact our democratic government believes legal analysis can be secret -- that how the government understands the law that regulates its conduct need not be made public. The judge in a recent case who ruled the memos might lawfully remain secret has confused the facts of a particular case with the law. Facts about particular operations can be kept secret, but not the law on which such operations are based. If the police seek a warrant, for example, in some cases the identity of a particular person sought under the warrant may be kept confidential. The law mandating the need for the warrant is public.

Game playing with the law does not amount to effective counter-terrorism strategy. Brennan admitted as much in his Harvard speech:

"I've developed a profound appreciation for the role that our values, especially the rule of law, play in keeping our country safe," he said. "It's an appreciation, of course, understood by President Obama. ... That is what I want to talk about this evening: how we have strengthened, and continue to strengthen, our national security by adhering to our values and our laws."

The CIA needs someone who will do what Brennan says, not what he does.

The U.S. seeks to extend its battle of terror to Nigeria. The U.S. only needs permission from GEJ administration to operate large-scale in Nigeria. Hope GEJ won't be stupid enough to give them that permission they'll seek. I strongly think Obama wants to cunningly extend that so-called digital imprint to the rest of the world.

Drones are big business now a days!

Drone program grows

http://www.marketplace.org/topics/tech/drone-program-grows-while-military-shrinks

The new Defense Department budget was announced yesterday by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. The grand total? $525 billion, down form $531 billion in the current fiscal year. The Pentagon aims to cut $487 billion from its budget over the next 10 years. That means a reduction of 100,000 troops, base closures, and cutting back on ships and aircraft.

One area that is not slated for reduction, however, is the UAV program. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, commonly referred to as drones, are going to see a 30 percent increase under the new plan. "I actually would argue that this budget is only the start of that," says Peter W. Singer, director of the 21st Century Defense Initiative at Brookings.

What exactly would America use as an excuse for sending drones to Nigeria?

Nigeria is highly priced. The Britons for one will challenge it because they stand to loose the most if Nigeria becomes embroiled in violence. Then you have China and recently; the UAE who have huge investments in Nigeria.

You think say these people will stiddon look? Naaa...first of all; there will be legal repercussions: then you will start seeing systematic reprissal attacks...

The US is more intelligent than to make such a fool hardy move.
Re: U.S. To Expand Drone Attacks To Nigeria Says Leon Panetta, U.s. Defence S by nas00(m): 12:02pm On Jan 15, 2013
This is a no-brainer.
The USA is obviously attempting to use the BH attacks as a pretext to subtly gain access to our national wealth, mainly mineral resources and agriculture.

My main fear for nigeria is that GEJ's sense of judgement cannot be trusted. He is a novice and weakling. He has proven that time and again.
May God give GEJ the foresight, wisdom and courage to say no to this diabolic proposal and defend the sovereignity of his country.

If the US REALLY wants to aid nigeria tackle BH, we do not need their drones. They could offer technical assistance by freely training/ update delegates from the nigerian military intelligence on counter-terrorism tactics, and this should be done on american soil.
That way, we'll know the US is concerned and willing to contribute to curbing BH activities in Nigeria without any strings attached.
Think about these: Why would the US be spending fortunes expediting drone attacks in nigeria? Did we request their assistance? Is nigeria at war with the US?

Nigerians are no id.io.ts, we know exactly what this is all about. Say NO to the US and their drones!!

Drones only zero in on individuals who have expressed a desire to hook up with the Virgins of Paradise.

If you have no idea who the Virgins are, and have no intention to meet them, you are, by definition, safe from US drones, whose primary task is to unite Mujahadeen virgin-seekers with their quarry, in the shortest possible time-frame.
