Re: Travelling To Canada by isOSavvy(m): 6:02pm On Mar 31, 2011 |
@Cuddlemii Yeah, SAIT seems like the right place for skills acquisition. I'm in for the diploma program. Thanks for the encouragement, I'm trying so hard not to give up. Building up your mum's account is certainly a smart way 2 go. For someone like me tough it may not work in my favour since i did not start early. I feel that a sudden increase in the account statement these dying minutes(heard deadline for submission of VISA related documents for fall is 2nd or 3rd week of April ) may raise eyebrows at the Embassy. I may have to talk to a relation of mine who bears the same surname with me. if things work out, will c ya over there eh! @Ayoalade I sent you a mail on this issue, would really appreciate your input. Thanks |

ayoalade yeah U of S is in SK, Canada. i need to know more about taking a spouse along either initially or at a latter date |
Re: Travelling To Canada by ayoalade(m): 7:49pm On Mar 31, 2011 |
@ chizquare, my apologies. I had read that to me the US rather than University of Saskatchewan. Well, it is very possible to have your spouse go with you to study however it is often a safeguard if you have a spouse back in Nigeria as that will be a confirmation that you're not intending to leave Nigeria for Canada. Essentially, your wife becomes your concrete tie to Nigeria, and a good and valid reason why you'll not stay after your studies. Having said, that, it is absolutely possible to have your wife along with you when you leave for your studies. Also, there is the option to have your wife join you later, which is what I've seen a lot of people do. Once you get to Canada, you can send a letter of invitation to your wife and she can easily apply for a visitor's visa to Canada. Again, this is route that I've seen a lot of people taken in the past. Let me know if you do have any other question or concern |

Hello Fellow Nairalanders. I'm on the march again. Gotta be applying for my canada study visa tomorrow,to study ACCA. Thanks so much for lot of experiences shared here.I will update you guess as things go. ciao |
Re: Travelling To Canada by isOSavvy(m): 11:18pm On Mar 31, 2011 |
@ rockafela I guess we are kinda like in the same boat. I came to the forum looking for detailed information about who could be an eligible sponsor. Based on what i have gathered from post associated with this topic , you will not have much of a problem if there is a solid proof of relationship. If he is your mum's brother for instance i suppose you could show some documentation where your mum's maiden name is used. From what i have assembled it also seems like the closer the person is to you biologically, the more logical it would seem, to the embassy, for such a person to be your sponsor. That being said, it is also possible for distant relatives and even unrelated persons to sponsor you, however a very strong case has to be made under such circumstances to show your connection wtih such persons and why they would want to invest so much in your education. Keep in mind that the embassy has had numerous experiences with people presenting arbitrary account statements just to get a student VISA. In other to distinguish yourself, you have got to be very well packaged(Supporting documents, convincing line of argument and all). At this point i would like to play the cool guy and tell you to let me know if you have anymore questions but emm, dats not gonna happen lol I really dont know no much about this topic. Ive simply rephrased the information i got from Nairalanders who are much more experienced on this thread. All the best Bro |

@iso-savvy u ve said it all, u spoked my mind, i shall provide all supporting doc. To guide dis including my personal accnt statment and payslips, as an undergradute i think dat ill gve me an edge |
Re: Travelling To Canada by ayoalade(m): 12:56am On Apr 01, 2011 |
@ rockafela - it is OK for your uncle to sponsor you even without the same last name (your uncle doesn't necessarily have to have the same last name as you). So, as isO_Savvy as suggested, all you have to do is provide information that will establish your relationship. In theory, it shouldn't matter who your sponsor is even if it is an outsider (I mean if your employer can sponsor you, why can't anyone else), however, the onus is on you to be able to prove to the visa office what the sponsor stands to gain from sponsoring you (as in the case with an employer sponsorship), or if on the other hand it's a family in which case they are doing so for your well being. Essentially what I'm saying is once you've been able to establish your solid relationship with your uncle, you can also have, say your parents or any other person that is capable as co-sponsor. Anyway, I hope everything goes well for you. Continue to ask questions and do your research too. @ chizquare - as soon as you have yourself settled into your program in Canada. It's all about how soon you want your wife to join you. And yes, she will be coming into Canada as a visitor and that will be her status, however, Canadian Immigration rule permits her to obtain Employment Authorization (work permit), if she so desire and this will give her better status in Canada than just being an ordinary visitor, plus, she's able to work and supplement your available funds. |

Re: Travelling To Canada by ayoalade(m): 10:19pm On Apr 01, 2011 |
@ larotsam, well, all you need to do now is to be able to convince the visa office that you indeed intend to go for this course and return to Nigerian upon its completion. You want to make sure that you do not appear desperate about going to Canada, at the same time, you need to present valid reasons why this course is important and it's going to be beneficial for you and probably for your career development. Moreover, if you can provide the evidence of strong ties to Nigeria - such as if you're married with children, or if you have an employment that you cannot possibly leave to move to Canada and anything else that will prove that you are well established in Nigeria and are not about to abandon everything for the dream of Canada. @ peace5050 - I've sent you a message to that e-mail |

Re: Travelling To Canada by cindel07: 4:08pm On Apr 02, 2011 |
@iso savvy, mo confuse us cos i checked the website and dis is what i saw Average Processing Times Processing times begin on the day our office receives a complete application and end on the day the final decision (i.e. approval/refusal) leaves our office. These are not a guarantee of how long it will take to process your application. Temporary Residence Applications: Temporary resident visa (visitor visa): By courier: 15 working days* It is strongly recommended to make Visitor Applications a minimum one month before your intended departure date. Study permit : By courier: 3 months* Student Applications must be submitted a minimum of 3 months prior to their Acceptance Start Date but not more than 6 months prior to the start date. Temporary work permit: By courier: 3 months* Worker Applications should be submitted at least 3 months prior to the start of their employment offer. Travel document for permanent resident returning to Canada: By courier: 15 working days* In person in emergency situation: 1-3 days. * These are average processing times only. Some applications take longer to process for various reasons. For example, the following factors could delay the processing of your application: incomplete applications needing a medical exam (additional 3-4 weeks from the date of the medical exam if no complications arise, such as the need for further testing) requiring background or security checks having a criminal record needing an interview documents that need to be verified other factors that complicate your case . Applications are dealt with in the order in which they are received. Note: This visa Section will not respond to case status enquiries within the processing times above. Processing times begin on the day our office receives a complete application. For more detailed information on processing times for all other categories of applications at Canadian visa sections, please see the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website. or http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/nigeria/visas/processing-traitement.aspx |

To all the most reliable and helpful people on here i would like you assistance regarding this canada travel issue as an undergraduate student, I have applied and paid the application fee to the University of Winninpeg, After payment i was contacted and informed to send all original documents stated below to the institutions address which was provided. this surprised me as i wasn't expecting them to demand for the originals: * Statement of Missing Time: If there has been a period of six months or longer during which you have not been enrolled in school, please provide a statement describing your activities during this period of time (E-mails are acceptable). * Original transcripts from all Universities/Colleges previously attended .You must submit a complete and official transcript as soon as possible even though final marks for courses you are currently enrolled for may not be available. * Original Proof of Secondary (High) School Graduation (diploma) * Original Secondary (High) School academic transcripts with final grades for all academic levels. Original/Official documents required (photocopies, scanned copies and notarized copies are not acceptable). I have a few questions regarding this procedure. 1 - I have a GCE result for 2006 and i am currently enrolled in Lasu, what do they mean by Proof of secondary (high) school graduation (diploma)? since i am not using my high school result but a WAEC GCE result. 2 - I was informed that nigeria is exempt from the countries required to provide Toefl, would it be required to present in the documents when submitting at the embassy? 3 - My sponsor happens to by my Elder sister based in the USA, can this account be presented to the embassy claiming her to being my sponsor from the states? 4- How much is required to be in my sponsors account for an tuition fee of 11k CAD? 5- What other documents do i need to make my application more concrete? 6 - Whats life like living in canada as a student and working hours? I'll be very greatful to get multiple ideas and advices regarding my questions listed above. Vote Wisely. |
