Chrisbenogor: Do some people realize mexico were practically playing at their backyard ni? and that Mexico is ranked 16th in the world?

Its a team in progress, there is room for improvement but slowly we can see that Keshi is building a team, their play was not perfect but Nigerians and their short memory seemed to have forgotten when we had yobo lobbing the ball forward for martins to run for 90 minutes of the game.
We will not become barcelona overnight, we might not reach the heights of Germany or spain in a short time, nothing good comes easy patience and confidence is what the team needs.

Shrugs undecided

For a team aiming to be the best!!!
This was not particularly impressive undecided

Were you expecting less than a stellar performance from the Nigerian team after AFCON? ? ?
You know nothing about football, stop spreading your ignorance on the net, calm down and learn. Also try to watch matches and read about some other teams. Don't just come out when Nigeria is playing to spread ignorance. Do you know that Mexico are Concacaf champions? Do you even know what CONCACAF means?

The purpose of an international friendly is to give teams an opportunity to experiment with new players so that you can know the players to use in real tournaments. This is what Keshi did, and it is the hallmark of a good coach.

Despite using predominantly second string players, Keshi still managed to pull a draw with Mexico, who were playing as though the match is world cup final.

And I'm repeating to you that 10-men teams have stalemated or won 11-man teams. Hence, the 'edge' of an extra player doesn't count.

Perhaps, you should go and read what one Ogugua88 just posted.......

10 against 11 is an advantage.......take it anywhere and you will be justified. If it had been 11 against 11.....we will all be saying a different thing now man!

Really impressed by Onazi, all round he is a good player with the important "fire in the belly" I watched him score really good goals for lazio.
IMO by far the best box to box midfielder Nigeria has now, freeing up Mikel if around to pick those passes when needed.

Sunday Mba I think tried to hard to impress.

Church!!!

He's like an attack-minded Makelele, with a thunder for a shot.

I follow the Italian league and the guy impresses me every time I see him play - great football player.

My dear,
A 1999 "Tortoise Moro" cannot out run a Porsche Cayenne ni, no matter how much you paint it and cheer it along.

What we have done is take our car to the love-vendor my ride specialist, the engine and major parts might have been changed but the aerodynamics of the body would still hamper speeds of 0-60 mph in 60 secs grin grin grin
Ok I nor know if my analogy follow but point is given how Nigeria is Nigeria (Akpabio et Jang et GEJ et Amaechi) I think the team is doing well for now.
I would give them a 7/10.

props to nigeria to getting a draw out of the game. fair enough we need to work A LOT on our defensive line but our short/long passing has improved (especially under pressure). for certain periods, their passing was almost "barcelona-like." If nigeria had any time to mess around it was in this game. they need to bring their A-game against kenya

Yeah! He's not particularly fast, but very creative. Belive me, at d level of Nigeria, we need his exposure, passes and confidence

Mikel ain't no Jay Jay Okocha and his passing range is just average.

He's good, but they can live without him.

tbaba1234: Good game

The new players struggled, enyeama did not inspire confidence. The defence was caught sleeping on the goal, again no awareness.. We need yobo back.

Generally, good game, acheived its purpose. Tested a few new players, only ogu made the cut today.
Go and sleep

Well, after watching every game that Nigeria played during AFCON, yes. A less than stellar performance and we still won the tournament. Winning the title doesn't mean we're flawless or invincible.

Let's see what happens next with Kenya.. June 5th!!!
You have got no underdog excuse because according to FIFA we are yards ahead of Kenya!!!!

And it is no friendly!!!

@ the bolded - most people don't really see the hard-work of utility players. Remember, Claude Makelele was also never appreciated at Real Madrid, till he left the club.

Utility players who do all the dirty work, are the heart-beat of the team. I rate the Onazi guy.

I don't know if either of you have watched Mexico play before today. They are far more organized than Nigeria, and they can certainly last 90 minutes in a match... even with 10 men as we saw today. If Mexico came at us with the strength they displayed in the second half with 11 men, I may be crying myself to sleep saying "every dog has its day".

Nigeria is good and we're all glad they won AFCON I'm the happiest o. The team that won was not organized from the very beginning. We all knew Keshi had work to do even after winning that tournament. Today's narrow draw only fortifies what most of us already knew.

I can't wait for our team to be an organized squad. Organization will make us a bigger African threat than we currently are.

THANK YOU JARE MY BROTHER......It is all about TEAM SPIRIT (organization and coordinnation)!

bros na wa for you, some people watch to see messi dribble or Cristi play free kick. In my days I played at right back with the occasional "No 4" as we called it those days which was basically Box-Box, support left right attackers and full backs, I felt the pain. Each time I watch football my eyes naturally go to the engine room, and these days there are so many different variants.

Claude Makelele was the definition of that role, not making silly lunging tackles or running with no purpose for 90 minutes, he read the game and made the very very annoying interceptions (kai I hated him the most at chelsea) While that yeye terry and co were taking Glory the silent workhorse was Claude.

Rastamann: Why is Keshi not making any changes now?

The ones he made killed this game, this shows that Nigeria is only a first half team. All the subtitles were shadows of themselves.

If you watched the changes of the Mexico you would see that the sent off player was not felt at all. Our coaches should stop being contented with their scores but focus on scoring more goals.

We couldn't defend, close the midfield, and attack also, there was no dangerous moves up front, number 11 fell down when he supposed to put the ball into the net, while looking for a penalty.

They tried, but much work is needed to make these boys know that the end of a match is determined by the referee and not the players.

Afcon is over. We should move on. Soccer is not school where abilities mount. It is cyclical. Bayern won the UCL but will start from scratch with pre-season matches and for the sake of the football family we hope will not reach the same level of performance next time no matter the expectations of their fans. That is soccer reality.

Tell me about it, bro. grin That's how you know those who actually played football to certain level. The ability to see what most can't see on the football pitch. I played football up to uni level, and I played a few games for my uni as well.

You're spot on about the engine room. That's where all the dirty work is done, and where the defense and attack start. Claude Makelele played that to highest level. Same with the likes of Lothar Matthäus, Diego Simeone, Dunga, Edgar Davids, Deschamps, Viera, Rijkaard and Roy Keane.
