weather is one of the good things in nigeria for people who have seen hurricane katrina,cyclones,volcanic eruptions,snow and its devastating effects and summer last year in the uk with the flood the most important thing is that at least the leaders we have now are making some moves to correct things which is a laudable achievement,they are addressing the problems either slowly or otherwise and good roads,uninterrupted power and the likes are a process and we are on the way to having all these, all other countries have gone through what we are going through and i dont know about other people but i dont see why peoplecannot study abroad because nigeria is bad,even americans,british and the rest all study abroad.there is an offer of an exchange programme in my school to turkey and china and a lot of british students have applied and been shortlisted |

@ Stillwater? What did u just say? WEATHER? You call the fever-inducing sun of Nigeria a good thing? Just when i thunk i have heard it all. . . . . .Nigeria's weather is the worst i have seen. The air is unclean and it is irritatingly HUMID. In other countries, while it is sunny, u can be assured of fresh air bathing your beautiful skin. Nigeria has nuthing compared to that with the smelly air and atrocious temperature. A 3 horse-power air condition has got nuthing on Nigerian sun. . . Lil wonder u see many kids in Nigeria with an avalanche of heat rashes. |

stillwater:Abi oooooo! Thank you my sister. Just don't get into the argument of weather with Sly. I made the mistake of using that as a point and he almost destroyed my hopes of loving my beloved country.   I do agree, however, that the weather is simply amazing, predictable and just beautiful. Just because i'm not in Nigeria right now - doesn't mean i don't go back at all. I make it a duty to go back as often as i can. As for y'all that have a problem with our beautiful weather, let's see how you handle the cold weather. Another good thing about Nigeria besides the weather is our efforts to make it a better place. At least some of the people are trying to make a difference. The western world screwed us totally. Can someone say one good thing about Ghana? Kenya? Ethiopia? Not particularly because Africa has been carrying the burden of what happened in the past. I'm even surprised about some things because although we are doomed, we are still trying to come out of the pit that countries like UK and France dug for us. |

@ jackal Give me my dry and wet season any day any time and not winter and summer, spring is nice though  .The heat rash is as a result of the retarded power supply in the country , not the weather.I don't know where you lived but my neighbourhood was very serene and people planted trees that brought fresh air but they had to cut them down to build gates because of the rise in armed robbers . I could go out into the rain (without catching cold/pneumonia) and play for hours  . I can't do that here |

I think debating this issue will further crucify the hopes and aspirations of a better Nigeria.Just on the surface I can mention one good thing about Nigeria,which is the making of knowledgable,well educated and well reasoning humans like every contributor on this forum.Majority of you (those residing abroad especially) will attest to the benefit of having spent a good amount of time in Nigeria and will definately appreciate every experience and event in those times. Yes it appears things can't get any more worse at the moment, the question we should be asking ourselves is "[b]are we ready to make this place a better place to live".[/b]With the amount of us who think unless we steal,cheat or kill we cannot succeed.What does the future hold for our children? Even us the coming generation have misplaced the definition of success. To say the least, there are a million things that are good about Nigeria we are just unfortunate to be ripped off these pleasures. |

Irrespective of what people say Nigeria remains a goldmine, people are making it big time here. The other day i saw my first bank share certificate, japaul and dangote, the margins are too good to be true. It is easier to be succesful and wealthy legitimately in Nigeria than anywhere in the world. go ask Dangote. Agreed curruption is a bane but it is must common to all men and society. Developments are ongoing in virtually the 36 states,the roads today in Lagos are better , check Adeola ODEKU RD, Ajose ADEOGUN in V/I. Cross Rivers state is now a tourism haven, the tinapa project, obudu ranch are develoments. Perhaps individaully we have failed ourselves, if every Nigerian can devlop and grow at its maximum capacity the society as a whole will be better. It should be on all stages. The one thing that we have to consistently keep doing is to, as much as possible, build our own capa-bilities. We have businessmen who can compete in the global market. We have schools that can produce the kind of skills that the global economy requires. We must stay focused on these areas of our national lives. I believe that it's the way forward for us. We are not going to tell the world, 'stop and let us catch up' |

vikiviko: I said I would try to keep this thread positive and I will try.  However, I would like to ask, what is the Government doing much to decrease the poverty rate in Nigeria, to improve education facilities and resources for those who cannot afford to attend private school and is health even on the agenda? You mentioned roads in VI, I think the roads in that part of Lagos were somewhat decent by Nigerian standards anyway. Was this new work to the roads, an enhancement or a well needed fix? What about the roads in the other parts of the country and Lagos, like Mushin, Ajegunle etc? It seems like when anybody talks about an improvements in Nigeria they always focus on the ones 'making money and hitting it big. This is good but will the ones who aren't business men or woman ever be noticed in a country where it is obvious that if you are poor, you don't count!  |

Only a hypocrite will say there's a good thing about Nigeria. What is good about Nigeria? I cannot place a finger on anything. People mentioned weather. . . . How does that factor put food on the table of the suffering masses. It is very normal to see kids in a refuse dumpsite scavenging for food. . . . People talk about WEALTH as if it's widespread. . . . A situation where 90% of the country's wealth is controlled by ONLY 10% of the populace . . . . . Very acceptable for a man to have 40 exotic cars and his next door neighbour cannot even afford a motorcycle. . . Is that a country? Only few roads are motorable. . . .no portaboe water. Children sometimes trek muiles to get clean drinking water. Epileptic power supply, menace of armed robbers and corrupt-minded law enforcement agents. Should i go on? Maybe Nigeria is the HELL the scriptures keep talking about and our dumb asses not knowing . . . . HELL cannot be worse!!!!! |

"We have everything functioning and well organised, even so many things are more organised than they are in Ireland: we're a small country invaded by Germany during the WW2, then, we were under the USSR for so many years until we became independent in 1992 and everything was in a mess, we built up our country to meet the EU standard, and we joined the EU in 2004, and now, we're a Schengen member state since Dec. 2007. We became visa free to Canada last year, and this year, we're joining the American visa waiver. . .". The Patriotic girls (who's married to a Nigerian man) shed tears as she narrated further how her grad parents suffered under the Soviet Union. |

Ooooops, ma bad!!!!!!!!!! Maybe Nigerians should start celebrating the ECOWAS passport too. They can add that to their list of good things about Nigeria. . . . . . Latvia became independent in 1992. . . . Nigeria became independent when? 1960!!!!!!!!! On top of that, Nigeria had the oil boom. . . . I still cannot understand how a nation blessed with human resources and natural resources fail to get an END PRODUCT. It's pathetic!!!!!!!!!! |

The basis for saying there is nothing good about Nigeria is the fact that the basic amenities of life are not available, poverty, unemployment, curruption, injustice, electoral malpractices, Nepa failure ans so many others. But the truth is Nigerians are by virtue of all these ills amongst the most intelligent and knowledgeable persons on the face of the earth. Everybody must not work in a bank, mega corporations , government to be succesful, you can carve a niche for yourself , that is why appreciate Nigeria musical talents and soccer ambassadors. There is one thing good about Nigerians We never give up. The instinct to survive am sure is natural but i can confidently say there are only few nationals of variopus countries that have the capacity of the average Nigerian. Your research Mr Vicjustice should proffer solutions, don't give people the opportunity to say rubbish about Nigeria here. I love Naija |

Only few nationals have the brain capacity of a Nigerian? I am having a laugh. How many Einsteins, John MNewtons, Nobels and Bill Gates have we produced if we are that smart?
