yinkaoke: I have an idle fund of about 300K and am contemplating on where to invest, I need some advice though I have the following in mind

Treasury bill 150k
Bond 100k
shares 50k
Mutual fund ?

I am investing low in shares to hedge and take some risk which could fall on either side. If negative then my returns on the fixed instrument can cover up. OR WHAT DO U THINK HOUSE?.
I could also invest in mutual fund but from my review of price history on Stanbic IBTC asset management website, I observed this is not a good time to buy mutual fund as the prices are high, so I will wait till year end or early new year when the prices are always low according to record anyway.

If any one has a contrary view pls help me out with prove.

I think the minimum investment for T-Bills is N100,000.

Treasury Bills are discount instruments i.e you will pay the discounted amount when buying and receive the gross (face value) when it matures. e.g a T-Bill of N100 may be offered to the public at N85...this means you will pay N85 to buy it, but you would receive N100 when it matures.

The best investmenst:
1. Real Estate
2. FGN Bonds....for long term investors i.e 2 years and more
3. FGN T-Bills...for short-term investors i.e 3-12 months
4. Stocks/Shares....could yield very high returns in the short-run if well selected from undervalued stocks
nice guy. Pls i will want you 2 Elucidate more on dat Treasury bill.what is the minimum amount that i can invest. What is the rate of turn over. What is the life sparm of it

Since u call it an Idle fund, MY advice will be for you to put it into somethings that can fetch appropriate funds for you, while you do ur other businesses unhindered; Had I known wat i know now, I guess my stories would have been....
anyway, I think I should know ur Location , If u happen to be in Port Harcourt, I could direct you to the LBM (mar Partners) office, there you will meet there clients and they will properly council U.. 1 Thing I assure U is that U won't regret it.

You sound like you already have an idea on what to do with your idle fund. Why don't you just do what your heart tells you and learn from the experience? We will only give tips but you are the only one who knows whats best for you. Don't trust the street tips for investing. Just increase your financial IQ by either getting information or doing what you think is best and learning from the experience. No one has a monopoly to education, believe me.

Best post for this thread thus far.

Investment in real estate could have been the best option depending on the period you want to keep the money idle.

@ Kofi am very much interested in this sterling homes, I love the concept; But one thing I'll like to know, is it powered by sterling bank? If yes I'll presume that means I could go there office closer to where I stay to inquire,
and also are the lands only available in Lagos? If that be the case its gonna be a major set back to me because I don't reside there... U can give me ur counselling so I'll be very much aware; For I might be wrong.

Omerian Consult: The only business in which you can NEVER lose is properties. Please search for the NL document titled Why you must invest in Ogun State NOW. There are now even lands of N180,000/acre in very good locations.
I think U should be aware that persons not residing anywhere close to Ogun won't benefit from it, I guess u know that?

You are ignorant of the fact that land is still part of real estates. If you won't mind, give me that 300k and I will produce 2 plots of land to you.

Anyway, its an advise, op may not take to it. Before you condemn ask questions.

Look for a cheap land somewhere and buy it. There are good areas where u can get 100% appreciation within a year. I think that amount of money is too small to actually benefit well from Treasury Bills. Getting a land will be best for u.

Re: Advise On Where I Can Invest My Idle Funds? by Nobody: 5:41am On Apr 18, 2013
Well for those asking about LBM , Its is more like an interactive marketing firm, where u buy questionnaires and u'll be marking d questionnaires every working day, and u re paid for it, after a year, ur membership expires, buh b4 den , u would have made far more, den ur capital, its very lucrative and they have other mouth watering packkages I can't tell y'all here!
Why I insisted on persons in Port harcourt is becos registration is done via dia office, and I don't know where there office is in Lag; buh I ddo know where there office is in Port Harcourt, since that is where I base. Wish y*all d best in ya pursuit

So what does marking questionaires actualy mean? Whats the rate of return on your capital at the end of that 1 year? And what is the credibility level of the firm behind this?
